Most of these mirrors have a daylight sensor that shuts off the darkening during the day. It is a small eyehole in the front of the mirror. Just connect it to a hot power source and the mirror will take care of automatically dimming only at night.
It does have the sensor. But the way it is wire now, it is alway on, which means that it is on even when the vehicle is not on (connected to overhead console lights, which are alway powered).
"It does have the sensor. But the way it is wire now, it is alway on, which means that it is on even when the vehicle is not on (connected to overhead console lights, which are alway powered)."
Hmm, yes, I see the point. Still, I would connect it to the ignition, rather than the light switch, just for good form.
I am confused as to whether the standard security system on the EX model is adequate to protect again theft. I am wondering if it is worth the investment to buy online and have a dealer install it. If I have to install one can anybody tell me where I get a good price.
I have a 2005 Honda CRV LX and I'm thinking about buying the Kelton Subwoofer. Can any of you that have purchased it tell me if it's worth the money (approx. $250) or am I better off with an after market subwoofer. I have purchased Boston Acoustics 6.5 speaker (four S65) for the doors. Any advice for installing them. I was also considering putting in a crossover so the door speakers only get mid and high freq. signals. Anyone with advice or experience in/with any of this your info would be appreciated.

I re-wired it to come on when the ignition is on. :-)

Neither will protect against theft. It may deter and amateur, but not a professional. Alarms are more for the peace of mind for the owner, and a nuisance for he neighbors. They are not going to stop a thief.
Your car alread comes with immobilizer chip in the key. If a thief can by pass that, the car is a goner. Spend the money on better insurance coverage.
Thanks blueiedgod for the information. One of the most common items stolen in cars where I live is the sound system. As I understand, the sound system is useless when stolen unless the thief has a special code. I will invest the money in other things.
I was very close on buying a used 2005 CRV, when I realized that I can NOT attach my harness bike carrier, because of the spare wheel mounted on the rear door!! Any suggestions,...or shall I look for the Highlander? I still prefer the CRV for its safety features, 5 AUTO tranny and slicker design, and don't need the bulky HL. But maybe for 3 bikes, that's what I should have?!?! (don't want a bike roof rack-too much hassle in pulling bikes in and out from the top....) Thanks in advance! Dan
I had a hard time finding a rear mounted rack, but ultimately I think I wound up with the best rack out there for any vehicle...the Thule Trailblazer 998XT. You can take a look at it here or at Thule's web site. It isn't cheap (I paid $375) but this beast is outstanding quality and design. The rack mount swings to the side so I can still open the rear gate on the CR-V! I had to have a Class II hitch installed with a 2-inch receiver (Honda's hitch is a paltry Class I with a 1.25-inch receiver) Never have I felt so secure with my bikes hanging off the rear of the vehicle as I do with this thing. And when we're not heading out biking, the rack folds down to save space.

You are welcome.
I don't think there are too many thieves interested in the OEM sound system. They usually go after the fancy aftermarket add-on systems.
As far as security code, they have ways of getting it. You and I have to show proof of ownership, and the serial number off the back of the radio, but a thief may have a connection that would allow them to get the code.
I have a Thule rack similar to that in picture. Last summer on a very hot day I had the strap down slide off the mount, break the cap at the end and have the bike fall of the rack on one side. Apparently, the diameter of the clamp increased and allowed it to slide. The cap at the end broke. I solved the problem by using small diameter pipe straps but lost the flexibility of easy adjustment without loosening and tightening screws. Prior to this solution, the bike store that sold me the rack suggested wrapping duct tape on the pipe to prevent the sliding. This did not work as the heat from the sun caused the tape to loosen and slide while the car was moving and the same thing happened. I think that Thule should solve this problem though the bike store owner said that he never heard of this happening to anyone else except me if you can believe that.
Ah, yes! I'd forgotten about those swing-mount racks. Not cheap, but a very good solution.
As for the "paltry" class 1 hitch, well... can't agree with that. You would need a 2" receiver for that style of rack (no question). But if a buyer is simply looking for a hitch, there's nothing wrong with the 1.25" receivers. I had a class 1 HiddenHitch mounted on my CR-V and used it for a cargo platform. I only had it for a few years, but loaded close to max capacity on a semi-regular basis without any difficulty.
When it comes to something like the CR-V, most hitches are stronger than the vehicle you are mounting them on.
My wife managed to loose her keys today including our 2005 accord and 2006 crv keys on the key chain. I've looked on line but am unable to find a replacement key for the crv. I have had the crv for less than a month and the dealer told me that new ones are pretty spendy. Anyone out there have any suggestions after all I will need an accord and a CRV key. I didn't think that it would be that difficult as I have the code for the keys and all. THANKS Any info would improve this day.
OK stevedebi, 260, but I would still like to add at least 100 miles of range on my 2006 CR-V SE Any1 out there know of a convient way of adding fuel capacity to the Honda CR-V?
Hi I have seen this question before, but never an answer. Has anyone found a console to replace the folding table between the front seats? Thanks for any pointers.
I am in the market for a 4 cyl suv and have narrowed it down to 2 choices; 2006 CR-V ex (w/leather) or 2006 Misubishi Outlander gls. One of my concerns with the CR-V is ride quality. I tested both cars over so/so pavement and the CR-V ride was definetly more harsh than that of the Outlander. In the Honda I felt more imperfections and also heard louder thumps/sqeaks/rattles in the cabin when driving over them. Is this something that can be adjusted on the CR-V for a softer ride? Don't know if it's a suspension/springs issue or lack of insulation or what but it is annoying. I like the Honda quality and design but def did not like the noises over imperfect pavement in a car that had less than 100 miles on it! If anyone has any advice on this let me know, thanks. :confuse:
Can someone clarify how often is an oil change required in CRV?
Dealer says after 3750 miles. Manual says after every 10000 miles for regular driving conditions and after 5000 miles for exceptional driving condition. Did I read that wrong? :confuse:

I get almost 300 miles out of the tank before the light comes on. Then it takes about 12 gallons to fill it up, which means there are still 2 gallons left.
As far as the tank, you can probably have a shop make one with the same height, but more crevices in it to let oyu get more gas in it. Plan on spending about $500-$1000 for it. Or you can get a custom made fuel cell to mount in the "fish tub" and have it connect to the main tank. That will get costly too.
"I get almost 300 miles out of the tank before the light comes on. Then it takes about 12 gallons to fill it up, which means there are still 2 gallons left."
The CR-V tank holds 15.3 gallons. Do you by chance have an LX? Or do you do a lot of highway driving? That MPG is pretty high for all city driving with RT4WD (EX or SE).

Both ideas are an explosion waiting to happen (I wouldn't want gas inside the vehicle), and will void whatever warranty remains on the CR-V.

MY bad, I keep thinking that it has a 14 gallon tank. That is even better, 3 gallons left.
I have a 2005 EX 5 Man. Most of my driving is local commute with 10 traffic lights each way. I actually get worse mileage when I drive on the highway because of the high speed and low gear ratios in the CR-V.
Fuel cells are safe, that is why they are used in race cars. They are safer than OEM gas tanks.
When the CR-V is shipped from overseas, they over-inflate the tires (something like 40psi). During the preparation of the vehicle, the dealer is supposed to let air out of the tires (back down to 26 psi). They often forget to let the extra air out.
Try a test drive in another unit, or have them check the tires before leaving the lot.
Hi, I bought the armrest/console from HandA for my 2006 SE. The instructions do not cover how to remove the cover on the old armrest. Does anyone have experience in removing the cover with out damaging it. Thanks
I had the dealer intall fog lights on my 2005. I may take it on the Alaska Hwy and wondered if there are any fog light covers to deflect rocks etc. Those similar to the wire covers on the Subaru. Anyone know of a contact to get these?
It's been a while since I bothered but you most likely will find a wide variety of plastic lens covers at any of the service stations or Canadian Tire near Mile 0 in Dawson Creek, if you don't find any online. Probably have wire ones around too.
Hello all this is my first Honda purchase and being a somewhat husky person 250lbs and 5'10", I was skeptical about even looking at the CR-V. After I took it for a test drive I found that it was a great ride and comfortable enough for a SUV. I picked up the all season floor mats, the rear cargo tray, front flaps, and the larger arm-rest which by the way made a world of a difference in comfort especially during a long ride. The only thing i couldn't justify to buy was the Honda window vents so i went with the next best thing, the vent visors. In channel for me is the way to go but i had one little problem. The visor would hold the rear windows from going up all the way for the first couple of days until the tape compressed(i guess). Another few items i am looking to get for the CR-V is the cargo cover, fog light kit, subwoofer and the tweeters. Just wondering what people here think that put the sub and tweeters on after they had the SUV. Just looking to see if it is justifiable as I was spoiled with my old truck with aftermarket audio accessories. Thanks in advance, Paul
I unzipped the cover and partially peeled the cover back. The entire cover does not have to come off. Then I used a wrench and socket to remove fasteners, including the round hinge piece. Bolting in the new hinge is a little tricky, but still fairly easy. Hope this helps.
Thanks FYI: I talked to the service person regarding the keys. If anyone out there needs new keys they said they needed the key and the car to program for the CRV and accord. If you need extra keys he said that it takes one hour to program (computer?) and can make up to 4 in the one hour labor charge, the only extra charge is for the extra key blanks. So if your going to pay $150 for the one key you might as well pay $160 to $180 for 2-4 keys.

Yeah, if you buy them yourself on tirerack or other wheel place. Some dealers may even offer their own 17 inch wheel and tire package, but it will cost a pretty penny.
Hi, Just got my 2006 Ex and am enjoying the ride. It came without any arm rest. I see them listed on a number of sites & checked the installtion instruction, it appears that in order to install a console type arm rest one had to be there from the factory. Can someone shed some light on this for me. Thanks
Honestly, I forget whether the 2nd gen CR-V needs the bracket inside the seat. I think not. I know an MT owner with the console/armrest, but it's an earlier model (2002 or 2003). I'll ask her about it this weekend.
Coooool! Where did u det those? Now I already don't like mine (dealer installed). Verrrry nice! Congratulations!
These are prototypes being developed by the "other site". Once they fix the glitches, they should be avaialable for sale on the "other site".
They plug into the existing wiring in the CR-V, and work with either parking lights, low and/or high beams. There is no need to do any splicing, just "plug and play." The cost will be substantially lower than OEM. And they come with nice silver garnish that perfectly matches the silver grille trim.
Thanks for the info. Also, I posted a question on the other thread, but no replies so far - would u by any chance know where the second cabin filter is on the 05 CR-V?
It is possible to install the armrest/console, but the manual tranny does not include the bracket inside the seat. So it takes quite a bit of extra effort. It's not plug-n-play like it is with the automatic.

This is illegal in many states. The fog lights should only work with the low beam headlights, not parking lights and definitely not high beams. Turning on high beams in fog is like driving in a zero visibility blizzard.

Do you know of any way to add fuel capacity to the CR-V? Buying gas every 200 miles is a pain, not to mention price spikes.
200 miles? I generally got 260 miles out of my 2003 EX...
You are welcome.

But, be aware that the low fuel warning light comes on very early.. You can probably drive at least 50 miles after it comes on...
If you are filling up at 200 miles, I'd say you could probably go to 250 with no problems.. I rarely fill up before 270...
It isn't a big tank, but you can probably go further than you think.. How many gallons are you putting in, when you fill up at 200 miles?

kyfdx

Sorry, but you have to go to the dealer - he can reprogram the key, which has a chip inside of it, as well as the key fob.

Tweeters are standard on the EX.
I think your first priority should be to read the OWNER's MANUAL cover to cover 5 times, then start customizing.
Enjoy the ride.
Nothing if you do it yourself.
Does anybody know if it's possible to get some of the overseas accessories here in the states?
Yeah, if you buy them yourself on tirerack or other wheel place. Some dealers may even offer their own 17 inch wheel and tire package, but it will cost a pretty penny.
