I did a really stupid thing when I bought my 06 EX - I had the door visors installed by the dealer.... now I've discovered that, not only did I pay twice the price, I don't like them! I wanted the ones that are not quite as wide. Can I replace them without much trouble or do I need to have it done by a pro. And, if I take them off, can they be re-used? I'd like to sell them if possible.

And another thing -- I ordered an ashtray that I thought wouldn't be such a big deal to install and upon reading the installation directions, found that to be a bigger deal than I thought because it requires pulling the dash apart! Who knew!! It's just an ashtray for cryin out loud! I hadn't taken the light part into consideration I guess. The instructions say that "this is not for do-it-yourselfers" and that a professional should take care of that too! I don't know how much the dealer will charge me for that but I'm pretty sure it's more than I want to pay -- why on earth doesn't Honda give you an option -- ashtray or cupholder! I can't believe I'm going to have to pay so much for something that used to be standard equipment! Again, it's JUST an ashtray for cryin out loud! Is there a way to install this more easily without connecting the light??

Because Honda does not want its buyers to die before they pay off the car, or die before they come back for replacement vehicle.

Even though I'm a smoker, I never use the ashtrays. Nasty to clean, and even further stinks up the car. What is a good solution (and easy to clean too), is a can of soda with a little liquid left in it. U just drop the butt in it, don't have to worry about being extinguished, no ashes flying around and it doesn't stink. At the end of your trip/commute/day just squash the can closed and dump it. And u pit the can right in that otherwise useless cupholder substituting the ashtray. And who designed those other cupholders anyway - the only thing that fits decently is a Starbucks coffee cup.
I hope u can return the ashtray. Good luck!

you guys are hilarious! First, I have a idea those people will get their money whether I die before it's paid for or not - regardless of the cause of death! Second, I don't drink soda - at least not often enough to have a bunch of empty cans lying around -- besides, how unattractive is that?? I keep my ashtray clean and it's not so hard... take it out and spray a little simple green or whatever in there... and voile! Clean ashtray! A smoker's car is gonna smell like smoke anyway, the ashtray is not the sole source of smoke odor, ya silly, and I still want mine installed! :shades:

    Smokers are happier people! ;)

    you guys are hilarious!
    We are, aren't we ;)
But I was actually serious, and trying to help. You still need to get used to the Master of Sarcasm (one post up) :) , who is actually a very knowledgeable forum member. Can of soda with some liquid in it, looks much better than an ashtray. And u don't have any ashes flying around the car. I actually used the ashtray in my 93 Storm (thought we'd have it just for a few months), and I vividly remember the dusting around it. U don't have that with the can of soda - u just put it in, u hear a short "psst", and that's it - no reaching over and extinguishing stuff.
Now, I agree about smoke smell, but with proper ventilation (the driver's window only cracked open about an inch) u can significantly diminish that.
Now let me go and light one up before my coffee gets cold... Mmmmm ;)

The other day I installed knock-off OEM cross-bars I purchased from an online seller for about $150 with shipping. I've compared them with the OEM cross-bars and can see no difference at all; I bet they came off the same assembly line somewhere.

The difficulty I'm now having is finding a roof box/luggage carrier (hard shell, not the soft boxes) that works with the CRV's fixed cross-bars. I've searched many companies' boxes, but none are direct bolt-ups as the 33" center-to-center distance betweem the CRV cross-bars is longer distance than everyone else's apparently. Even Thule, who it seems makes Honda's roof boxes for the CRV, doesn't make on that fits. Makes me wonder if Honda had a specific box made by Thule...or more likely, just had Thule drill some additional holes in an existing Thule product. Which is what I may end up doing...but has anyone here found a non-OEM roof box that works with the factory rack? Thanks!

Are you sure a freind of mine has a Thule just like mine that fits on his 05 CRV SE. Its the clamp on system I will ask him but I dont think he had to do any mods.

If you go to the Thule web site and enter in the specifics on your CRV and if you say your cross bars are OEM equivalent you'll see that they say all their boxes will fit.

I'm 6'3" and the driver's seat does not go back far enough. Is there an aftermarket kit that would allow me to extend the driver's seat backwards?
  • varmintvarmint Member Posts: 6,326
Nope. I'm afraid not. Honda is pretty tight about such things. Any adjustment to the seat track could change the effectiveness of the airbags, seat belts, and other safety systems.

I guess they figure it's better to lose a customer than risk killing one. They do take that to extremes, though. You can't even get a seatbelt extender for Hondas.

Has anyone out there used the Yakima "Spare Joe" bike rack on their CRV? It attaches to the spare tire. The photo of the rack on Yakima's website shows it on a CRV, thereby leading me to believe that it is safe to use. However, I've seen other postings here that say not to use spare mounted racks. Yakima is a respected company, though and I have to think they've done their homework on this.

    Comments?

I would like to know where to purchase after market fog lights sky 23213 or blueiedgod
    Thanks
  • sky23213sky23213 Member Posts: 300
If you're looking for aftermarket, blueiedgod is your man. You may see his on this thread, cool stuff. As far as I know the advantage of the aftermarket stuff is not only price (probably cheaper), but they may also be hooked up to work as DRL, not only with low beam. Mine are OEM, installed by the dealer. If you prefer them, you may want to check out HandA first, see if you're comfortable installing them yourself. Good luck.

I got mine from the owner of the other site, as prototypes. They are the same as the ones on ebay with the silver garnish things. The only problem with them is that the switch that comes with the kit does not fit the openning properly. The other site owner desided that it was not worth the hassle to have them developed further because of the switch. There are a few people on ebay selling these kits. You will have to get the OEM switch from the dealer. It is only $20 or so. You will need to solder wires to it, because the kit harness does not plug into the OEM switch. I used a male-female MOLEX connector set to allow for quick disconnect when you need to remove the lower dashboard panel. I have all the pictures posted on the other site and I wrote the installations instructions for the kit. It is a hybrid for the Civic and CR-V instructions.

We are considering having the fog light kit installed on our CR-V before we take delivery. How do they work with the daytime running lights? Will the dealer actually replace the headlight control stalk? Thanks!
  • fnamowiczfnamowicz Member Posts: 196
Yes, a new switch is part of the kit.
Log on to collegehillshonda.com for a description and price of this kit.

If anyone has done any of the following please give your 2 cents because I am debating on doing the following mods:

Installing roof rack - It looks like it will be easy.
Fog lights- Looks like a tough one.
Parking assist - looks tough too.
  • crvme3crvme3 Member Posts: 140
Fog lites yes... but it is somewhat involved, requires removal of front bumper, cutting out the fog lite holes, some wire harness work as well as replacement of the existing headlite switch assy. The kit comes complete with all needed components but you will need some wire connectors, solder, heat shrink tubing & wire ties. This job IMO should not be attempted unless you have an above average knowlege of an automobile and posess automotive technical/mechanical skills. You can go to H&A website find the fog lite kit & click on instalation instructions... Adobe format is required, you can read thru instructions & see if you are confident enough to attempt this yourself. Good luck.

Anything is possible, it depends on how much cash you are willing to lay on it. Figure a Toyota Self Dimming mirror with HomeLik probably retails for $600, plus $100-$200 to the installer. Is it worth almost $1000?

I went the easy way. Installed a Self Dimming mirror from a junked Oldsmobile Bravada, which cost me $30. Then there was a recall on those. Since I had the donor vehicle VIN, I got a brand spanking new one under the recall.

For HomeLink, I installed the console from Honda Oddysey. Junked ones retail on ebay for $30-$40.

It is a lot cheaper to go that way.

Am new to this forum so the question may be repetitive; Is theer a way to add steering wheel radio control to '07 LX?
  • hd2hd2 Member Posts: 15
Next month when i purchase or finance my new CR-V EX-L, I want to add Body Side Molding. It will cost me almost $400 (including installation). Can I do this buy myself and just order the part online? I know of a website that has accessories and some parts (saving of around $267).

    thank you for any info
  • lzclzc Member Posts: 483
    The instructions are here:

$267 for labor sounds high to me.

A little masking tape and a decent ruler, and you can easily install them yourself. I did my own, without any issues.

I've got roof racks on my '07 CR-V and want a car top carrier. I saw the Honda "roof box - short" carrier advertised locally on Craigslist at a pretty good price.
I noticed that handaccessories lists it as an accessory for the '07 CR-V though when you click on it there it takes you to a page talking about the Pilot.
Does anyone know if it works ok with the CR-V? I know the weight limit is less for the CR-V, so I'd just put lighter bulky stuff in it.
Will it's clamping mechanisms match up correctly with the CR-V racks' crossbars?
  • fnamowiczfnamowicz Member Posts: 196
Just make sure that the air temp. is at least 60 deg. during installation.

Has anyone installed or heard the Bass Speaker System for the '07 CRV. If so, what was your impression.

I have a black 2007 Honda CRV with beige interior (and flooring). The standard floor mats get dirty very easily and was looking at the sites recommended on here for all weather floor mats.
They come in beige and black.
Any recommendations on what color to get?

I like black as the dirt will be less recognizable however my flooring and current mats are beige. Since I can barely color coordinate my clothes, I was wondering on what others would choose or currently have.

    Thanks for any responses.

I have an 07 CR-V and an Allen bike rack (not a hitch rack) which can hold 4 bikes and was formerly used on a station wagon rear hatch. Will the rear hatch of the CR-V support that weight? Any suggestions? We need to carry 3 or 4 adult bikes.

    Thanks,

    Mikezzz

I have the black all weather floor mats and it shows all the dirt and dust along with the salt they use here in the winter. I think that the beige would show dirt less and go with the interior better. I just wish that color was available when I ordered my floor mats because the black stands out on my beige interior. The other nice thing about the all weather mats is they could hold around (give or take a few) 8 oz of liquid with out spilling over on the interior. Nice if you have quite a bit of snow on your shoes when you leave for a longer trip.

I bought the Honda bug shield, body side molding and tail pipe chrome. They are all great. Wondering if anyone bought the bass speaker system? How does it sound? What did dealer charge to install?

Could I take an XM Satellite Ready radio from a 2005 or 2006 CRV EX and install it in my 2004 CRV EX? Could I also install the steering wheel audio controls from an 05 or 06 CRV EX in my 04 CRV EX?

Everything is possible. How much are you wllilng to pay?

You would need to buy the 05-06 headunit, and the XM receiver, the steering wheel buttons attachment. And see if the wiring harness already has the wires for the controller, if not then you will need to buy an 05-06 reel and add wires to the harness to control the radio.

I did the Roof Rack, it's easy, pop off 4 plastic covers and the racks drop right in, studs are already there, 8 star driver nuts and you're done.

Side moldings were not that hard either - careful measurements and a decent eye are all you need (and a clean vehicle and warm temps).

Fog Lights and Parking Assist, can't help you there, but those items look to be far more difficult.
  • rrbhokiesrrbhokies Member Posts: 108
Did you install the bug shield and tail pipe chrome yourself? If so, how easy was it? Is the bug shield just clamps, or does it require any drilling?
  • garywigarywi Member Posts: 54
no drilling, but it does require measuring. Took about 1.0 hour to complete.

Anyone thinking of installing projector headlamps found in Europe and Japan in their NA 07 CR-Vs? They look so much better than the basic headlamps. I wonder if they are the exact fit as the NA lamps.
  • pro5mohpro5moh Member Posts: 29
I want to do the same..

Before we think of installing the European ones -- Can we get those on EBay -- I did not see any?

I am planning on tinting the rear windows on my 2005 LX CRV.
Before I shop around, could you tell me a few tips?
I read information about dye /no dye in the film, 3M brand as being the best.
Also, what's the level ( 30, 20, 50) of the CRV EX factory tinted windows? Does the shop can find out the factory tinted level for EX in order t.b applied on mine?
    thanks,
    dan

I bought the cargo cover from Classifies" on the "other site" for a little $100, shipped. It was brand new.
Could you please be more specific about about "the other site"? And the wiper stalk too, installation instructions, I would be interested too.. I don not think edmunds will remove information that realy helps topics on this site. List websites without the ww eventual...
    thanks,
