The "Genuine Spares" are often primed by the OEM manufacturers and the body shop color matches them.
I and, I am guessing others, use to think that the door handles and molding around the door handles were made of plastic with the color completely through. This would have solved the problem that occurs in that area.
As time goes on the paint gets scratched from fingernails and also from the car keys, that we hold in our hands, as we open the door. I guess it would be to costly to have on hand all the colors. Also I can see that the color would probably not exactly match.
Consider painting the molding a contrasting or complementing color - say silver. You can also consider (while you are at the paint gun) painting the body rails (black-colored stuff along the frame under the doors) for a very nice custom look.
Last LX advice - consider adding the remote. It is extremely convenient!
Good luck. This is a great van, and w/o power doors, your LX will last a long, long time and still be worth a ton when you sell it.
Are the seats in the 2002 ody a bit more firm than the spongy unsupportive seats?
Are there any speaker upgrades?
If anyone one can confirm these please post a message thanks
The car should be in on Monday, and they said 3 days to install aftermarket leather seats and DVD system. With everything, total price was just under 32K (not including tax/license). I've never even paid close to MSRP, much less almost 2K over, but we have an aging Explorer that my wife has started to refuse to drive, and the Oddy is still much less than our other option, the Acura MDX. Couple of questions:
1. Is the aftermarket leather going to be of good quality? The salesperson said it was better than Honda's, because it covered everything not just the seating surfaces. Anyone have aftermarket leather seats? Do they interfere with the side airbags? Do they match the rest of the interior color?
2. Is the DVD entertainment system a standard model that dealers farm out, or do they all use different systems/installers? I want to make sure it comes with RCA jacks so I can plug in a Playstation or something of the sort, but can't seem to get a clear answer from the dealer.
Please don't respond to tell me how much more I paid than I should have, I'm already cringing at the thought :-) The good thing is that my wife can drive the Honda, and I get to drive the "fun" car!
I have Katzin leather on my 99EX, and would not purchase it again.
Repainting The Door Handles by billg7- as far as repainting them to match if Honda is like GM the door handles or for that matter any painted part except the body it self comes to them painted. Dashes etc. are all painted when GM gets them but for anyone ordering something do to damage it comes in a flat black finish, even interior parts as it just costs to much to warehouse all the different pieces in all the colors.
Each seperate model designation for Honda(or any other car make) carries a unique VIN number. That is what is used to categorize the car for trade in. So there is a different and unique model portion of the VIN number for an EX, EX with Leather, EX with leather and dvd, or EX with leather and navigation system.
Fact is, an EX with factory Leather and DVD will bring more in trade or sale than an EX with leather and dvd added aftermarket. It might not be right, but that is how it is.
Unless you are getting a SIGNIFICANT savings, you will not make out on this deal.
Very much appreciate any reply's!
Thanks.
1. According to the sales rep I just talked to, the aftermarket leather is "more like the accord's soft leather, not like the vinyl-like leather in the CRVs, and does cover the whole seat." This leads me to believe it is the Classic Soft and not the Katzkin.
2. The DVD is under the front passenger seat, comes with two wireless headphones, and can be operated with the standard Honda stereo.
Good point tomhauck about the resale. My wife really would prefer the Redrock pearl anyway, and it would give us more time to save up for a big down payment. I will call my sales rep tomorrow and ask him if I can transfer my deposit to a Redrock EX-L with DVD. In the meantime I'll also call Veronica (thanks for the tip jmnygaard) and see if she can do better.
Thanks again for your advice!
Sounds like Sales "Speak" to me; i.e. B.S. Personally, I would want assurances of that IN WRITING before I gave them any money. Keep in mind that you're only a short distance from Katzkin's plant.

1 = US plant
2 = Canada plant.
If anyone has checked on prices in the last couple of days, how does this deal compare? I think the dealers are more motivated now, after the Trade Center tragedy, than ever to deal on the Odys.
P.S. Where are you located? Was this an internet price?
My dealer will sell me the warranty for $1100, before I negotiate, I want to know hwere I can find the same warrenty for $795 on the net???
thanks,
parker
Thanks in advance.

$100 sounds fair depending on where you live and what they did. My selling dealer charges $85 + tax + environmental fees. They follow the severe maintenance schedule in the manual plus a few other things.
Compare the list of what they did to the list in the manual and that will tell you if they covered it.
Whether $100 is reasonable depends on what they did. An oil change with filter should be $20 to $30 at most dealers. What else did they do?
The first service, which was an oil change only, at 3750 miles, was therefore free.
The 7500 mile service is explained in the owners manual, as are the other services. It includes oil change and rotating the tires. My dealer normally charges about $80 he said, but he charged me only $52 because the oil change was free.
A 6yr/75k extended warranty will probably run you around $800. We just bought a new Ody last week and the dealer tried to charge me $1800!! I told him about the internet price. Needless to say he came down considerably and matched their price.
He was able to talk to one of his good friends at the dealership, and I'm paying MSRP for either a RRP or Mesa EX-L/DVD ($600 less than the original offer). Also, they are giving me $1500 more for my Explorer than Irvine Honda, and include the first two oil changes and 15K service free.
The only negative is that they couldn't give me a firm delivery date, only that my salesperson would call me today and every couple of days afterwards to let me know what was on their allocation lists.
I feel a greater sense of peace about this and am willing to wait a few more days/weeks. Thanks again for your helpful insights.
Thanks
Got two calls today. One from salesman Thor at Norm Reeves. Said he got an allocation list from Honda and there was ONE Mesa EXL/RES on this list. He said he should have the VIN late this week.
Other call was from Irvine. Told me the Ody I had put the deposit down on was in, and I could still get it. Still wouldn't budge on the price (31,800) or my trade-in (7,250). Said thanks but no thanks, I'll take my chances. So what if I don't get one right away. I don't have to be "the first one on the block".
I think dealers like Irvine are going to get a rude awakening when people start realizing that we are actually in a downturn and start pulling back on their expenses. All the people who got turned off by "We've been directed not to sell for less than 2K over MSRP" and shopped elsewhere will never go back. I won't.

No such problems purchasing our 98 Lexus GS4 about 5 months ago. Let me take the car home for an entire day, free services, certified, detailed the whole car, etc. etc. etc. They misquoted the mileage allowance and months on the lease, and ate the difference instead of raising our payment. I'd go back to that dealership in a heartbeat. That's what earns repeat business.
