220 tread=24k man you did really well!!!
i got a whopping 8K out of my rear tires. Best recommend is a 400 tread factor in the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Not quite as sticky, but will yield a few more miles and still create a respectable fun factor for driving.

my MT6 did the same thing all winter long. over inflate the tires the dealership said. don't do that. inflate the tires with nitrogen instead of good ol gas station compressor air. nitrogen does not have the same heating/cooling qualities of the basic air used to inflate the tires. that should solve the problem.

    michelin pilot sport A/S
not the pilot sports but the sport A/S

220 sticky tread wear life vs. a 400 tread wear factor. still gonna cost about a grand for four in 18" though.

Several winter/ice tires are available in the 17 size, which you can mount on steel wheels and swap them out yourself at the beginning and end of the winter season. It's not cheap (close to $1400 or so), but it's a lot cheaper than buying a "beater" and will ensure maximum winter capabilities with the car. It's not the power or RWD that make the car dangerous in winter, it's the summer performance tires. Fitted with good all-seasons, or--better yet--winter/ice tires, the car will be much more capable.

By the way, regarding treadwear indexes (e.g. 220, 400), these numbers are set by the tire manufacturer and are not independently tested or verified, so take them with a grain of salt. Best source of data is probably the Tire Rack surveys.

you'd have to agree that as a general rule of thumb now-a-days, real wheel driven vehicles with plenty of go don't do real well in snow, at least here in Salt Lake City. i agree SUMMER tires are a no no for winter/cold conditions. i did a ton of research on what tires to replace the smoked rears on my car. i understand that the tread rating is just a generic bench mark, but it does give one an idea on the density of the rubber compound that goes into the manufacturing of the tire. the lower the number the stickier the tire and vice versa. the only reason i went with michelin A/S for the back replacements was to give me a slight advantage over the OEM limited milage expectation and to give me as close a match to the fronts as possible. i still don't prefer ANY rear wheel driven car for snowy roads, regardless of what kind of tire meets the road.
i thought my previous post was in recognition of 18" wheels/tires, which are a little harder to find for snow driving conditions even here locally. 17ings are a little more common.
i too, agree with the findings from the tire rack forums.
not trying to pass on bad advice, but rather share real time experiences. $1400-$2000 is about the right price for a "beater" here in my neck of the woods that would typically last about 2 years. it's all personal preference.

one other factor and the most important to me:
it may not be the ability of you and your shiny new machine on winter roads, but rather the inability of the other guy..........we see that ALL the time here.

I live in San Francisco so snow is rare here, but I do enjoy going to the Sierra's during winter. What would be a good all-weather tire? In the past I have had good luck with Michilins.

I recommend the Continental ContiExtremeContact (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Continental&tireModel=ContiExtremeContac- t), which have gotten me through a couple of DC snow storms last season and have performed very well in the wet and dry as well.

Just picked up a new G35x
when the car is not moving the RPM does not read zero. it reads a little above it
    is this normal?
  • colonel35colonel35 Member Posts: 108
    Are you serious?

Yes, it's normal; it's the engine speed (which is idling), not the speed of the car (wheels). It should only be zero when the engine's not running.

I just got my G35x premimum last week, love it, it is the best car I have ever driven. I have alredy put 1,000 km on it and I have noticed a slight banging noise when I go over bumps. It sounds like there is something in my trunk that is moving around. I know it is the car making the noise and nothing that I have in my car because the car is completly empty right now. I have been having too much fun with it to actually move my stuff into it.

Has any one else had this problem? The banging has a slight metallic sound to it, I have gone under my car and made sure the exhaust was not loose, so it is defently not that.

    Thank you.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
A loose exhaust pipe was my first thought. I would take it to the dealer and have a mechanic check it out.
  • andy2812andy2812 Member Posts: 76
Maybe the jack is loose. Make sure it is tightly secured in its place.

Has any owner of the 2005 G35X (AWD) experienced a problem with the airbag light coming on after the car has been started and then continuing to blink intermittenly? Car has 4K miles and has been to dealer twice now for the same problem? Suggestions? Thx
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
As long as the airbag doesn't blow up in your face on the freeway, I wouldn't worry too much. :P
  • colonel35colonel35 Member Posts: 108
frisconick is wrong; You should definitely get this corrected by a dealer, as it's an important safety feature of the car. If it doesn't deploy when it's supposed to, or deploys when it's not supposed to, could be a life and death difference. Speak with the service manager about it, or bring it to a different dealer.
  • esfoadesfoad Member Posts: 210
Colonel35 is absolutely correct! Please get it taken care of.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
I stand corrected, get it checked out immediatly.

Everytime I turn on my car...the auotmatic A/C comes on and won't allow me to shut it off. I have a 2003 G35. Also I am unable to control the radio stations also. Anyone with what the problem might be.
  • cheerioboy26cheerioboy26 Member Posts: 412
That sounds like a problem I had it requires the replacement of a circuit board.

I think it's #03007 on there, but you can't click to view the document on that one....

    :confuse: Hi, everyone.
I have '03 G35 sedan and need to replace the front windshield. After finding out the OEM part from Infiniti will cost me more than $900 (incld installation), I decided to go for the aftermarket part. However, I found a big difference in price after calling around few places from yellowpage. The price including installation runs from $200 to $399. They all say that their glasses are made to OEM standard. Does anyone have a good autoglass shop to recommand in Washington D.C. Metro (Virginia) area? Is there any brand of aftermarket glass made to Infiniti's OEM specification? Thank you in advance.

Good morning. Does anyone know if Infiniti has a solution for the brake pads on the brake pads on the g35. My warranty on the brakes of 36000 miles is almost over. If there is no resolution I might consider trading in my car for a non infiniti product. The car has some great driving dynamics but coast of ownership is a important factor. Thanks for your help in advance

    Barry
  • colonel35colonel35 Member Posts: 108
Hmm...$900 does sound very steep. Last year, when my wife's Altima needed a new windshield, I called the local Nissan dealer, and they referred me to a glass place in Rockville, which ended up costing around $350, and I was pleased with the results. I'd suggest asking the dealer (or other dealers in the area) if they can recommend any after-market glass shops.
  • cheerioboy26cheerioboy26 Member Posts: 412
What kind of resolution are you looking for? I think the newer cars (05) have different pads, but they are still of a similar composition. The reports I've read on the new M are very different - very few, if any, complaints about the brake dust. The solution is to get aftermarket pads. That's what I plan on doing - I have 41K now and got my last set of Infiniti brakes at 35K.

I just had my fronts replaced at 15K and 2 years (less than 2mm left). Rears were fine. I've been trying to use the manual shift mode to save the brakes since I live in a hilly area, but on a 2003.5 that feature doesn't work as advertised. According to my service advisor, the replacement pads have not been reformulated, and they will wear just as fast.

I'll probably invest in a good jack and air wrench so I can change my own pads when the warranty is up.
  • esfoadesfoad Member Posts: 210
Anyone know if there are aftermarket ceramic pads? I used those on my previous ride after the factory pads gave alot of brake dust. No more dust with the ceramics.

About to pull the trigger on Black G35 coupe tomrrow or the next day, please tell my why I shouldn't, thanks all.
  • ana1ana1 Member Posts: 10
Wanted to find out if others experience the car going over bumps pretty hard, and I am not talking about large bumps or pot holes. Just seems they hit rather hard. Also on the highway where the road is loopy the car seems to bounce quite a bit.

About to pull the trigger on Black G35 coupe tomorrow or the next day, please tell my why I shouldn't, thanks all.

It's personal preference, of course, but I needed a bit more trunk space and room, and it saved a couple grand. So, I bought a 6MT sedan. Black is too hard for a slacker like me to keep clean, so I went with the ivory pearl, or whatever they call the off-white color.

Other than that, I see no reason not to pull the trigger. Sorry I couldn't 'help'.

Check the prices paid and buying experience forum for what I did in getting a good price. Start with post 1948. It refers to a couple of other posts that describe what I did to get a good price.

    Good luck!

There's been alot of talk here that G's come in to the dealers with the tires pumped up to the high 30's in pressure. You should check the tire pressure to make sure it's at spec. When I checked mine after 6 weeks and after it's first oil chsnge, the pressure was at 38PSI when the door sticker says 30PSI. I made the change and the car drives much smoother.

    Thanks for the advice. :)

Be happy if you can get the black coupe for $500 over as we discussed in the other forum. I believe there is only one black one in No Cal... I opted to buy a different color and avoid the dealer trade. Having had several black cars in my life... it is worth it! They look awesome when clean... you just need to keep them clean! Good luck.
  • rocaroca Member Posts: 8
Or you could have just gotten the spare key and open the doors!
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
LOL, there are plenty of black coupes in No Cal. I have a 16 year old son, so I have an automatic car wash. :P

Obviously I'm in a hurry. One owner painted black. It's loaded; leather, cd, nav. I need to know of real world highs and lows. Drove it today. Sounds kind of loud in the rear end. Does the sound disappear at higher speed, or does it get louder? Please reply ASAP.
  • colonel35colonel35 Member Posts: 108
I suggest reading about the car through these forums (use the search), and in popular automotive media and consumer magazines. The car has fared well, and obviously, people on this board think positively of the car. But you need to decide for yourself whether it's a good choice.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
The car is loud only when accelerating, when cruising there is little noise, but I love the roar of the car! If I were you I would wait for the 06's come and buy an 05 because the interior of the 05 is so much nicer than the 04.
  • larryallen707larryallen707 Member Posts: 174
I would spend the extra dough on a new one because they aren't that much more expensive than an '04 and there is nothing like the new car smell! An '05 with EVERY option can be bought for about $36,500k I think. What's the '04 going to run? $30? I would spend the money for the new one with every option you want.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
I agree Larry, there is nothing like that new car smell !!!!
  • woods3woods3 Member Posts: 2
why not..??.these cars get awful mileage 14-15 city....17 combined
    20 highway
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
Buy a hybrid if mileage is your concern. :P
  • woods3woods3 Member Posts: 2
sure is when these people portray that the cars can get 18-25 mpg...
total bs....Infiniti is beginning to feel the heat from these awful
mpg G35's & the AWD is worse...I live in a strict lemon law state
and Infiniti is gonna "eat" my car....& I'm done with them...beware!
can u say Lexus SUV hybrid ???
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
All I am saying is that you don't buy a G35, and then worry about mileage. However, my wife liked the TL because of the mileage and low emissions.
  • george7777george7777 Member Posts: 46
I don't know how you guys drive, but I've had an '04 6MT sedan for about eight months now, and don't think I've ever been under 18-19 mpg on any tank of gas.

One day I was driving along a level road where I could put the cruise control on about 65, although I usually drive faster than that. I reset the mpg indicator on my computer and drove several miles. I did have to stop for a couple of stoplights, but some of the time, the cumulative mpg showed as being over 30 mpg, and at the end of it all, about ten miles of driving, it showed over 28 mpg, and that was with a couple of stops at stoplights.

Maybe it's the automatic that's sucking up gas, or maybe you're driving MUCH differently than I.
  • tpgtpg Member Posts: 1
Why does the 6MT have more horsepower than the 5AT? Is it because Infiniti tuned them differently?
  • alronalron Member Posts: 13
I'm on my 4th replaced CD player in my G35 sedan. There is a new problem every time they change it. They use the refurbished models so it seems that when my guarantee runs out I will be out of luck and it is going to be very hard to find an aftermarket that could replace it.

I just bought a 04 G35 Coupe and had for 3 weeks. I already brought it to the infiniti dealership twice for the rattling noise in the backseat area. The first time they told me they took care of it. I still have the problem any advise on how to get rid of this noise.
  • caballero1caballero1 Member Posts: 14
I have an 04 G-35 coupe with almost 35,000, I have noticed that at take offs, I get some rattling noise from either the tranny or valves, seems to happen at low speed takeoffs. I thought it might have been cheap gas but I have tried other brands but the noise is still there, any one else have this problem.
  • joeshanjoeshan Member Posts: 70
I have had only a couple of problems with my '04 G35X. I was torn between purchasing the Inf and a Saab 9-5 Aero. I still read the 9-5 forum on Edmunds and after reading about the problems that owners are having with both the cars and the dealer/service practices and policies, thank goodness I did not buy one. :)
  • tonyb77tonyb77 Member Posts: 1
I just had a brake job done on an 04' G35 w/ 45k mi. The brakes shop tech said that the front brake pistons weren't disengaging. This started about a week after brought the car in to have it serviced/inspected. Is this a coincidence?
