My G35x door handle is the brushed aluminum trim. I recently got a few scratches on the trim, perhaps from a sharp object. Is there any DIY 'safe' way to repair this damage? I was thinking of using an ultrafine sandpaper, but I would like to get some advice first. Thanks!

I am wondering if anyone else has this problem with their G35 coupe. Mine was bought new just 3 months ago, and I thought that all the interior switches lit up. I noticed that one of the four switches did not illuminate any longer on the driver side door panel. The window lock switch did not light up. The dealership/service at Infiniti were hopeless at trying to give me a straight answer. The showroom model did not light up at all, other cars on lot did what mine was doing....in the long and short they didn't know and said that it is not supposed to. I felt it was odd that 3 out of 4 would be illuminated, and one is left in the dark. Can anyone else tell me if all their interior door panel switches on the driver side door lights up?? Thanks a million.

I have an '04 G35 Coupe 6MT w/18" wheels. I bought it in Jan. 2004. I noticed about 8 mos. ago some black stains on 2 of my wheels. It appears to be brake dust which has stained thru the clear coat. I faithfully wash/clean my wheels about every 2-3 weeks using either ArmorAll Car Wash (which I use to clean the entire exterior) or a product called SprayNine (which was recommended by Jim Coleman Infiniti's detail guy). I have never taken the car to a commercial drive-thru car wash and would not recommend anybody else doing so!

Also, I've noticed that the finish on 2 of the wheels seems to have coursened (not as smooth as when new) in some spots. Not sure what's going on w/that. I've never used any harsh chemical cleaners on the wheels.

I have yet to bring either of these problems to the dealership's attention - but plan on doing so next month when I go in for maintenance. Anybody else dealing w/this?

    Hey newg35owner,

I have an 05 6MT G35 Coupe myself and if i remember right mine doesn't light up as well. But I can live with that, so i never thought of it as a problem.

I am having exactly the same problem, especially with the right, rear, passenger window on my G35 sedan. I've taken the car in 4 times with no success.
  • wbr99wbr99 Member Posts: 51
I've posted this in the G35 Coupe Forum with no success. Hope someone will answer me here.

According to the manual the break in period is 1200 miles where we're not supposed to cross 4000 RPM. Can someone explain why this is, and what'll happened if I didn't follow this.

Also this seems longer than other cars. I bought a 2004 Mazda 6 a while back and it said to take it easy for only the first 500 miles.

Having a 6MT it has been difficult for me to keep it under 4000 at all times, I'm already into 950 of the first 1200 miles and have followed this on and off (I'm being honest here). But I am gonna follow it from now on. Like i've said in my earlier post i've red-lined it twice.

I, too, experienced the same problem... apparently, the problem is not a unique occurrence, as I found this service bulletin online:

    link title

It would appear as though we are out of luck and will just have to live with the tarnished wheels. One note for others that have NOT experienced this problem and would like to use dressing on their tires without PERMANENTLY damaging their wheels: For the first few months I owed my g35 I used wolfgang concours-series black diamond tire gel, applied thinly with a sponge applicator and had NO problems - it wasn't until I took my car to a car wash and had them put dressing on my tires that I encountered this problem.

Although I've searched online and asked the dealer, no one can explain what the "REV" message means. The dealer told me it's supposed to be on, but if it turns off, it's okay, too. Clearly, this light means something, as it would not otherwise be there! If anyone has figured out what this is, please post. (BTW, I am NOT describing the flashing red shift light indicator.)

My 04 g35x sedan also gets [non-permissible content removed] gas mileage. REAL [non-permissible content removed], like 18 city. i end up filling up 2 times a week. does anyone know any good mods for the sedan or tips to get better gas mileage?
on another note- my leather was slightly ripped on the back of my center console this weekend from some equiptment,,does anyone have any referrals or ideas on repair?
  • esfoadesfoad Member Posts: 210
The EPA rates these cars at 17MPG city, so if you're getting 18, that should not surprise or disappoint you. If you want more MPG, it may be time to look at another vehicle. Perhaps the TL or the Avalon? Similar size or larger, decent performance and somewhat better mileage, especially the Avalon. But you give up alot of fun and the AWD. I'll keep mine just as it is, thank you.

I noticed on the streets a lot of G35's with their center mounted LED stop light not functioning, So when I got home and checked mine it was not working either. When I called my service rep to arrange a replacementet he told me that it is happening to a lot of G35's and that people do not find out because you need to see it from behind the car with the brakes applied. This problem is increasing as the model gets older. In addition to this, once you warranty is over it would cost over $300 to replace that little light due to the fact that it is a LED circuitry which are suppossed to last forever but in this case they are not lasting more than 3 years.

I visited a local Infiniti dealer (SoCal) and they said replacing the plastic piece that hold up the driver side mirror is over $500. RIDICULOUS, does anyone know if I can factory order the part or get it for less elsewhere? They talked about installation and primer for the part, etc but its a screw on part and made of plastic, Come On, some info would help me! thanks_

I had my center brake light replaced about two years ago in my 03 sedan. I've seen one other replacement (the light is a little different).

I wonder if any of you question yourself about the G's Xenon headlights. How come it's so bright and blue-ish when we just turned it on, and after a second or two later the blue color is gone? I thought the blue color must be seen in a Xenon headlight just like the BMW's? Anyway, I wonder if Infiniti installed a cheap light on and called it a Xenon. Please give me a reply if any of you experience this problem.
By the way, what does IMO mean? I see a lot of people use that term in here, which I don't know.

I have my 2005 G35x for 3 ½ months with 6,000 miles on it. I was feeling a slight grinding in the brakes when stopping and would also hear a loud brake squeal at times. I had checked the front rotors thru the wheels and felt that both front rotors weren’t smooth while the back ones were still smooth. I took my car to the dealer and they found “excessive rotor runout” on both front rotors although they said the brake pads were fine and couldn’t give me a reason why this would have happened. The dealer said that they would only cut the front rotors (which they did) and would not replace them and that everything else should be fine with the brakes.

I’m concerned that there is a defect in either the rotors or brake pads that caused the rotors to be scored in only 6,000 miles. Also, now that the rotors needed to be cut while the brakes and rotors were still under warranty, it means that I might only be able to cut them 1 more time before there isn’t enough left on the rotors to be cut. This means that I may have to replace the rotors sooner than normal due to a problem that occurred within the 12,000 mile warranty for brakes and rotors.

Should I go past the dealer and deal with Infiniti regarding this to try and get them to find out why the rotors were damaged and to have them replace the rotors. I feel that I now have a new car, with overly used rotors and that they will not last as long as they should giving that they’ve already been cut down.

sda1030, my 05 G35 with 3700 miles is having the same problems you're having. The hissing noise from the rear passenger side door was solved with new seal/gasket. Now the transmission fail-safe mode, but I noticed that it only happened when the weather is hot (So. Cal). Three times already but the last two times the car would not restart after shutting off the engine. Would have to wait about 5 min then the car would start up. At my first oil change (3500 miles), the tech checked the car's computer for error code but none came up. Made an appointment for service next Monday (10/10), will let you know what happen. I too am disappointed with this car. It's actually my wife's car. Her last car was an 01 Accord V6 coupe. It has three transmissions in 67,000 miles and now this.

    Good luck

I have a 2004 Coupe I have had many problems with this car but two problems are very disturbing, after 20k the drivers seat started to wiggle an wobble from side to side and the seat belt would not retract it would fall out and get caught in door, the dealer to me to roll the seat belt in by hand every time you get out of the car. I explained to the dealer if the seat belt is not working properly it may not protect me in and accident, they felt that the issue was not important after four months of complaining the dealer replaced the seat belt ( the new seat belt did the same thing after three months of wear) SAFETY ISSUE

after three attempts the dealer finally replaced the seat rails to keep the drivers seat in one position after about 6 months the drivers seat wiggle returns it is most noticed when going in driveways at and angle. in a collision a lose seat is not what you want. check your seat with a brand new 2005 seat on the dealers show floor (grab the seat below the head rest and try to wiggle it from left to right it should not move it should be firmly mounted to the floor... if your seat has alot of movement you should demand that your dealer repair this ASAP because this is a serious safety issue) there is a TSB about this problem

Has anyone experienced feeling excess heat from the engine by touching the front fender just behind the headlights after letting the car sit for 20 to thirty minutes after driving? In my g35x the fender is almost too hot to touch .Brought it back to the dealer and he ran another g35x and found the same hot spots behind the headlights .Anyone felt this problem/

Has anyone found a way to get rid of scratches on the black door "sills" (the easily scratched black plastic along the bottom of the sides, front and back on sedans)? I'm prepping to sell my 2004 G35x and the scratches on these sills are bugging me! :-)

    Thanks. gil20

There is a service bulletin on this problem.

I too have encountered this issue, it is some kind of sensor that needs to be replaced in the gas tank. Tell the dealer about it and get them to replace the sensor.

    good luck

I have the same experience with my G35'05/sedan with 7000 miles on it. The noise started from day1. Brought back to dealer but they could not hear the noise? As you stated it only happened on certain type of bumps. I will bring it back again. The problem will go away if I rolled down the windows a bit. My BMW only do this after 7 years. Let's me know if you found out what the problem is. Thanks

I have an '04 Coupe that's just been a wonderful car. I now have 35,000 miles without any complaints. I bring the car to the dealer every 5,000 miles for service. At 25,000, the dealer installed all new brakes (not Brembo) without me even asking. I was told that Nissan had issued a squeaky brake bulletin, and even though my brakes weren't squeaky, the dealer replaced everything. I was amazed.

I have an '04 Coupe and have nothing but positive feelings about the Bose system when properly adjusted. I noticed that when set at flat that I get bass that's too boomy. So, I've got bass set at negative 1 or 2 and treble set at positive 3 or 4 and it sounds great.

The Bose (Clarion) CD changer in my '04 Coupe 6MT just crapped out (after 21 mos.). I have the 6-disc changer that comes w/Premium Package. When I load a CD I get no sound and a CHECK DISC message. Dealer is replacing w/a refurbed unit under warranty, but I've heard others who've said Infiniti hasn't addessed the root of the problem and that replacement units will probably/eventually experience same problem. What's the deal w/playing CD-Rs? My owners manual recommends only store-bought CDs. Are they kidding?

Hey Ron - I use same settings on my Bose system and agree w/your assessment! Have you had any problems w/your system?
  • wingman5wingman5 Member Posts: 3
I just had the same problem w/mine ('04 Coupe 6MT w/Premium Package). I tried a CD lens cleaner w/no success. If you're still under warranty, Infiniti should replace the unit w/a refurbed one. I've read many posts on countless forums about this and my conclusion is that Infiniti selected a crappy system for the G35! Good luck!

Does anyone know if the sedan and/or coupe use high-friction brake pads that need to be replaced @ 20,000 mi. ?? I do not own one of these vehicles but I am curious as to what your owners manual ( or Infiniti ) has to say on this subject.

    Thanks in advance !

ps. I'm in the initial " new car " shopping stage.
  • mnrep2mnrep2 Member Posts: 200
This was a problem for the 2003-2004 model year. Infiniti has supposedly corrected this problem area. I have an 05 but only have 5,000 miles on it. I have noticed very little brake dust on the G as compared to my old VW Passat so far.
  • roar1roar1 Member Posts: 193
Thanks for your response but that was not the question.

The question is " Does Infiniti install high-performance, high-friction brake pads that have a very short life ( about 20,000 mi. ) due to their soft material" ??

The Lexus IS 300 website SPECIFICALLY states that the vehicles brake pad life will be about 20,000 miles due to its hi-perf. pads.

What about the G35 ? And in particular, the coupe.

Brake dust is not a problem, imho. ( brake dust will usually occur whenever you have open spoked alloy wheels a the vehicle)

I just had the dealer replace front brake pads on my 2004 G35 sedan just after 15K miles. It was covered under warranty, supposely through 3 years or 36K miles.
  • mnrep2mnrep2 Member Posts: 200
Infiniti doesn't state specifically, what type of brake pad material they are using on the G35, that I'm aware of. I would ask a dealer that question.
  • cheerioboy26cheerioboy26 Member Posts: 412
My 2003 sedan brake pads wear fast. I have 35K on my car, and the pads (front) were replaced at 18K and 35K IIRC, and I think I replaced the rear pads at 35K as well. I live in DC area, so I do drive in stop and go traffic a lot.

Are you kidding me? Man I wonder what some of these ignorant dealers are doing selling cars. Its also explained in your owners manual. The REV light is a shift light. It tells you that a shift point ( set by you ) is approaching. For example if you set it to 6700 rpm, it will start flashing REV when you are at 6200 or so rpms so you know you have to shift soon.
  • jetta6ajetta6a Member Posts: 33
First of all its nota cheap light lol. Its a real xenon hid light. All xenon bulbs will have a color variation on start up and then settle down to whatever color they are supposed to be. Secondly the BMW has projector HID where as the G has reflector HID ( the 06s have projectors ). Projectors will be bluer than reflectors. And third, the color is a function of its temperature rating. The stock G HIDs are rated ~4350K which is close to actual daylight color. If you want a blue color you need a higher Kelvin bulb ex. 6000K Philips Ultinon etc.If you get a 8000K bulb it will purplish blue, and anything above 10000K will be like a UV blacklight. The BMW prolly has a higher Kelvin bulb but i bet its not more than 5000K. Why? Because the higher the Kelvin rating, the less actual light output. Do not confuse Kelvin rating to lumen rating. You may look cool with blue lights but you wont be able to see anything on the road. For a good balance you shouldnt go above 5000-6000K bulbs, and so your G35 has VERY bright and very good lights.

    Jetta6a,

Blackg35 mentioned the following in his post.

(BTW, I am NOT describing the flashing red shift light indicator.)

Before reading that, I thought of replying with what you said, but after reading what i mention above, I was stumped myself.

I wasnt aware there is a red flashing shift light?? I thought that the REV indicator is the only shift light. Never been in a 6MT personally so I cant say for sure.

There is a light on my 2004 G35 coupe lit up on the dashboard. It is on the right hand side of the dash and it looks like a "U" with an ! in the middle of it. Can someone tell me what this is as my dealer didn't give me a copy of my car manual.

So, call me crazy, but every time I get onto my 05 G35X, I pop the trunk because my remote fob is on my key ring and something in my pocket triggers the one touch sensitive trunk button and pops it. I complained to my dealer when I first got the car and they looked at me like I was crazy and said, "We've never heard that before."

So, I've lived with it for eight months. Now, I just received a full color brochure on the 06 G35 and there it is, covering one full page - an extreme close-up of the remote fob - exactly the same - except now it says hold under the trunk button. In other words, they fixed the problem by making you hold it down for a few seconds.

I guess I was the only one who experienced the problem :) Anyway, I went to my dealer this morning and asked if I could switch it out since it obviously was a design flaw, but they said unless it was broke they couldn't help me, but if I want I could buy a new one for $100.00.

Of course, it's the same part number, same remote other than that, so it's not like it's a new upgraded design for 06. I told them that I felt that it was wrong and not good customer service or "total ownership experience." They told me to call Infiniti. So I did. Sean customer service said "if it ain't broke - we don't fix it" I said, "but you did in the new remote." He said, "there's no telling why the powers at be fixed it. It could have been for a different reason." I said, "but that's not great customer service to make someone who just spent 35K to go through the life of the car popping the trunk every time they get in or out." He said, in so many words, "tough." (by the way there is no "Trunk Open" warning light either, when just popped ) I said can you bump me up to the next level -- he said, "I am the top."

Of course, I'm venting here, but what do you think? Any similar experiences?

I have an '05 G35 coupe 6MT. When the climate controlls are all off and the vents are left open (blows air in from the outside), it blows warm air through the lower vents. How do I have it blow normal air as in other vehicles (ie. hondas). Does anyone else have this problem? Thanks.
