If we wake up tomorrow & there are no incentives for the pilot, can someone give some insight if it's common for automakers to put incentives out in the middle of the month or a few days into the month? Depending on the incentives I have to decide if I should go another route or wait a few more days. Thanks in advance for anybody that knows more then me about this...which is about everybody:)
Not 100 accurate. Pilots might not have the cash incentive but I am sure it will be back after the 2008 inventories are gone. Honda does have special financing (see below) thru November and beyond since I do not see selling pilots like hot cakes. Ad: "Special AHFC A.P.R. financing available on all new 2009 Pilot models. 0.9% APR financing for 24-36 months or 2.9% APR financing for 37-60 months available to customers who qualify for the AHFC Super Preferred credit tier. Example for 2009 Pilot: 0.9% for 36 months financing at $28.16 a month for every $1,000.00 financed. Dealers set actual vehicle sales prices. See participating dealers for details. For well qualified buyers. Not all buyers may qualify. Higher rates apply for buyers with lower credit ratings.
Offer valid from 9/3/2008 through 11/3/2008, on new and unregistered 2009 Pilot Models and only on approved credit by Honda Financial Services through participating dealers. Honda Financial Services' standard credit criteria apply. Example for 2009 Pilot: 0.9% for 36 months financing at $28.16 a month for every $1,000.00 financed. See dealer for details. Dealers set actual prices. Limited time only."
I already got my Pilot, so I may be a bit biased, however...
When I was looking for one in late August / early September, out of the 4 Honda dealers I went to, only 1 had any 2008 Pilots left, terrible selection too (no EX-L or Touring). Maybe in other markets (I'm in St. Louis) that may not be the case, but over here, 2008 models are virtually gone.
I hope for other interested buyers the incentive will come back soon; personally I wouldn't hold my breath until next month. Hondanews also list Pilot sales as the second least declining compared to September year-ago; if Honda wants to provide incentive, they would be better off giving it to other models (Odyssey for instance) - again this is just conjecture on my part.
On a side note, I got my pilot at the last day of the incentive and we did 2.9% financing (which was the lowest financing available then); two weeks later, the dealer called and said that he can give the 0.9% financing, so that was pretty sweet
I do believe there will be more incentives coming down the pipe. The overall sales nor the reviews of the pilots are very bright. Here is the disclosed news avout sales:

Keep in mind that declining sales figures will only result in increased incentives if they are unexpected and therefore there is overproduction, or if production levels are fixed. Most of Honda's plants aren't strapped with the same fixed cost ratios of the Big 3, and therefore they can and have scaled back production to meet demand. If supply and demand remain in alignment, pricing does not change. Basic economics folks!!!
Not quite that simple. Honda might decrease production but there are a lot of competitors in the current market, and I can honestly say that looks wise some are much more attractive that the new HONDA Pilot. My bet, We will see more incentives as they sell off all the 2008 models. Hang in there.
Let me get this straight.....the existence of competition results in a need for incentives? Just not true. And the 2008 inventory levels are already near zero (from a statistically significant perspective).
Manufacturers provide incentives either as part of a marketing budget or to balance supply and demand to meet fixed-volume manufacturing requirements. This isn't my opinion, it is fact.
The likely reason that early incentives were offered is to get a quantity of vehicles on the road for "drive-by" marketing purposes. Commercials and print ads only do so much to get people interested in a vehicle, sometimes it takes sitting next to one at a red light for 30 seconds to really catch your eye.
Allow me to respectfully disagree with you : ) . The only reason they have incentives is because they have not sold the inventory as planned. Just a few years back Honda used to no deal with you because they knew that behind you there was another willing buyer to pay full price. This is not the case in the current market. The only way they are able to clear inventory is through incentives (either financing and or rebates). The competition has stiffened and now Honda is willing to negotiate with their prices. I bet money the rebates in the 2009 will come back either late this year or by spring of 2009. It will be a fact.
You are both Correct. Supply and demand does play a part as does inventory. Each manufacturer has they own formula. But, bear in mind, current market conditions are not like anyone has ever experienced. Most vehicles are sold with credit, and right now credit is at a standstill. What we do not know is how long Honda dealers can keep current prices without incentives in this uncertain market.
I signed the contract & put money down on a car that was intransit to another dealer. I was to pick up in a few days. I just got call saying the other dealer had 4 grand worth of extras on it & I can't get that car unless I pay extra. Am just plain out of luck here? Or am out of line to be upset & think I should have a some sort of legal right to the car? I'm put a ton of effort looking at cars & we finally found the one & color we wanted. Apparently there are no other ones like it of the color in the state.
if I were you, I would start over with a new dealer. And if you can wait, order the car you want. just tell them to put it on order in their weekly buy. And you should deduct another $150ish because they won't have to pay a floor plan expense on the car.
Finally bought my Black 2009 Pilot EX-L 2wd auto for $30,500. This includes the Doc fee, but not TTL. Have them install running boards with lights for additional $800. Drove it home last night....loving it. This is in Norman,Oklahoma.
Honda cannot keep the slogan "The Car That sells itself" any more. Honda quality is degrading, or other cars quality/reliability are up to par with Honda.
Well said, some folks can't obey very simple thread rules.I don't even understand which areas honda's quality issues is arising from. I have had the 09 AWD Pilot Touring since August and 2 of my friend have joined the band wagon. It may not be sleek but it performs very well.
My my... This is a section for Honda Pilot Enthusiasts. For you and others that offer up thoughts or opinions contrary to this sections base of readers to join in a section on negative or non biased views of the Pilot. I think most here would agree that we wouldn't be reviewing this section if not to become more educated on Prices or Sales experiences gained by peoples purchases. It certainly helped people like me on the purchase of my 2009 EX-L for 30k. 6k off sticker. Perfect or not, I think its a hell of a vehicle. In fact, I love the Pilots that much I would sell or trade mine in for a 2009 Touring model when the prices and offers come back again. Might be next summer during clearance, but I wouldn't hesitate on a this SUV for a moment knowing I would keep it for years to come...
I paid $24,500 for a 2wd SE at the end of July. That was when they had the $4,000 to dealer incentive. I don't know if that has changed for the 2008 models at this point. I would guess there are not a lot of 2008 models left at this point, so if you wait too long they may be all gone. I suggest not using the Honda web site. I requested e-mail quotes from about 10 to 15 dealers in my region (I'm in the LA area) using Edmunds, CarsDirect and a few send direcly to the dealers from their Web sites. I took the two low offers to my local dealer, who matched. It was relatively pain free.
I wanted to see if anyone has purchased a 2009 Honda pilot touring 4wd recently, and if you have can you please email me or post the price that you paid. I'm trying to negotiate right now and need some figures to throw at the dealership. Also if anyone knows of any incentives that are coming soon please let me know. Thanks in advance. email-jboogie2323@hotmail.com
I submitted a bid for an 09 Touring with NAV and RES at Wilde Honda for 6500 dollars off of MSRP. The salesman expalined that the $2000 rebate was over however the dealer wanted to know the specifics of my trade in order to offer something close in my estimation. I am waiting to hear from them sometime today or on Monday and I'll let you know.
My advice: If you can wait a couple of months the incentives should come back. The is a reason: SUV sales are not as brisky as they wished they were and over the last two years Honda has been offeing them. Besides the economy is not that great.
You know SUV sales are really hurting when Honda is advertising the AMAZING 23MPG of the Pilot. (That's one less MPG's than alot of the Fords/Chevys/GMC's/Dodges). It's bad when Honda has to pull out the "yeah we know it's only slightly worse than the American SUV's on fuel economy" advertising strategy. I agree...wait it out, someone has to start panicking soon. Honda sales were down 24% in September and if their marketing strategy is any indication of the future, October may not be looking any better.
I couldn't disagree more with the rationales listed for the liklihood of increasing / re-emerging incentives.
SUV sales are down. So is SUV production. The purpose of incentives is to move excess inventory or to maintain minimum production levels. I haven't been able to find anything on Pilot inventories, but before you ASSUME that incentives will come back, you had better have some idea of inventory trends. Otherwise, all you are doing is waiting for the sake of waiting.
Also, the effect of credit-tightening on incentives is unknown. On one hand, it makes AHFC's cost of credit higher, meaning that it is harder for them to offer special finance rates. On the other hand, it reduces sales because people can't get bank loans, increasing inventory. The big winner might be the cash buyer, or at least those with a large downpayment who can then easily qualify for a smaller loan and get a great deal in the process.
My local Honda dealer in Queens NY has a New 2005 Pilot EX-L w/Nav. Considering it's year and that it's new, what should I offer them for it? I think it's list is just over $34k Thanks.
I think your dealer is trying to scare you into purchasing a vehicle NOW.
No dealer knows for certain what incentives will be available. If you really do not need a vehicle at this time I suggest you WAIT. These next few months are the most difficult time for the auto market. With many people concentrating on the Holiday season, sales are down. If the dismal September sales are any indication of the downward trend,October, and November should follow the same pattern.
I would be very suspicious of this vehicle? Why do they Still have a New 2005 EX-L available? Did you personally see the car and do they have it on their premises?
How long ago did you inquire and is the vehicle is still available?
I also live in NY and I know all the dealers. This may be a bait and switch tactic to get you into the showroom.
What DON'T they do to get you into the showroom? I first saw this on eBay Motors. I emailed them about it and they email me back the standard sales pitch ignoring my original question. They finally told me they do have it. It is also on their website inventory. Haven't actually seen it yet though. Any idea what I should offer?
Don't you feel suspicious of there's a brand new 2005 Pilot still around? Why can't they sell this car for the past 3 years? There will be a lot of questions to ask and check anything wrong with this car. Of course a test drive is needed before any offer is offered.
In EBay Motor I found a 2005 Pilot in "New" section which is in NY. However this car has lots of mileage. It should be a mistake.

It is really difficult to make an offer on a vehicle that you have not seen or test driven.
My First reaction would be why are they not answering YOUR questions - I would really push hard to have MY questions answered first.
In addition I would ask them outright what they want for this vehicle - let them make the first offer not YOU. Plus ask them for the VIN number so that you can check it.
Then make an appointment to inspect( make sure the VIN number they gave you matches the one on the vehicle) and test drive the vehicle -
Of course, I'm a little suspicious, but if it's new, what could be wrong with it? Unless it has like a hundred miles on it. I think that was the one I saw too on eBay. But as I said, they did say they have a new one in stock, and it's on their inventory on their website.

Now there's something that I still can't get my head around... Why did Honda offer cash incentives on the '09 Pilots right out of the gate??

I
I have two offers for a 2008 SE for ~$26,800 using request a quote from the Honda website.
I have two questions:
How much (if any) negotiation room is there?
Is there reason to buy now, or wait? I'm not in a hurry.
Thank you all
Out of line to be upset? No, I would be, too
Some sort of legal right to the car? Doubtful.. nothing worth pursuing..
I'd just say, "No way".. then, see what happens... A deal is a deal.. if they won't deal, then write them off..
