like you said, accessories seem excessive, but its tough to say if you got a good deal overall since you are saying you got more for your trade.

This site is really helpful. Thanks to every one
This site has really helped me with my purchase and I hope my input can help others as well.
$26,623 - including destination charge
$2063 - tax (7.75%, orange county, CA)
$235 - licence and title
$28 - electronic filling fee
$45 - doc fee
$8 - tire fee
The OTD price is $29003. Thanks to everybody on this forum for helpful information and advices!
I think $31,800 is an ok deal (if destination is included)...from what many dealerships told me, AWD is not as common as well as back with tan. Also i haven't seen too many with NAVI on the lot.
They also tried to bundle my vehicle with Protection Package (and charge $240) to which i said NO!
Are there any incentives/marketing support being given by Honda right now for 2006 Pilots?
What is w/RES? Does it have DVD or Navi? Do they have many EX-L w/ Navi in stock? Thanks in advance for your help!
Give'm a call. Gilroy Honda. Hope this helps.
Usually dealerships will get kickbacks based on number of vehicles they sell (example if a dealer sells 120 Pilots in 2 months they get $x,xxx back), same goes to option packages, leather etc.
I am happy with my price even though knowing that there was still probably few hundreds there they could do (but not at this time because the vehicle iss till fairly new).
Good Luck to all, have patience!!
Of course I assume that I didn't buy any service plans from my original dealer.
If by "service plan" you mean the standard HondaCare extended warranty, it is also honored at any Honda dealer in the US. And you don't need to buy the warranty at the time you buy the vehicle - you're free to buy it later and shop anywhere you like for it (with the exception of FL residents, but that's probably too complicated to get into here).
If by "service plan" you mean some type of dealer-specific free oil changes or the like, those are typically done by each dealer independently and are not transferrable. It all depends on whether the plan is with Honda or with the dealer.
Now, if you are a worrier, there are a few things you can worry about in separating your purchase and service dealers. First, if there are pre-delivery setup problems, your local dealer could be hard-nosed and be unwilling to correct these problems, but such problems are typically minor and a dealer isn't likely to be hard-nosed about this anyway. Second, many dealers do toss in some free oil changes or other freebies that are only good at the specific dealership. Third, you might find that your local dealer gives higher priority to customers who bought cars at the dealership. This might affect how quickly you can get an appointment, or whether they offer a free loaner car. Worst case, if you get into a dispute with Honda on a major warranty problem, a dealer will sometimes be more willing to go to bat for you with Honda if you bought the car from them.
Having pointed out all these things, they wouldn't be major factors in where I bought a car. But I would give the local dealer a shot at my business though and if they make a competitive offer, I'd go ahead and take it, even if I thought I might do a bit better elsewhere. Time and convenience may be a lot more important than saving $100. And if you drive the car home and spot an early problem, a local dealer will likely bend over backwards to make it right because they know you haven't filled out the customer satisfaction survey yet, and they're terrified of a black mark on these things.

Now for the best part-the Pilot is great! The XM Radio is wonderful and we really like the layout and design of the interior as well as the leather seats. We made a quick 400 mile round-trip to Nogales on Wednesday. Cruise was set at 80 mph for the first 100 miles and 70-75 mph for the rest of the trip. Gas mileage was 25.7 MPG!
your comments would be appreciated
- No trade in.
- Car was on the lot. It was the only LX they had. Lucky it was the color we wanted.
- Mileage on the car was 8 miles. I put on another 8 during the test drive.
Not in Socal, but Norcal. Just signed contract today (pickup 12/20) for a Sage Brush Pearl '06 2WD LX for $23,998 + TTL (all other dealer fees included - no doc fee). Works out to be $846 below invoice. Cash deal.
Dealer was Walnut Creek Honda. I made an offer in writing, and they accepted. No upselling of anything else either. A truly great experience, up to now. I expect the delivery to run smoothly as well.
In New York the link is http://www.nymcu.org. Not sure if other states have it or something similiar.
Thanks to those who posted with pricing info. Especially helpful was knowing that there is a 3% holdback on the car, which made it easier to offer a price below invoice.
The following are the details.--- Paid $31,117 + tax/tags. (Pilot was $30,269 + $550 delivery + $298 document fee.) No trade or finance involved. Purchased at Open Road Honda in Edison, NJ. They also had special the day I purchased, and they thru in free remote starter (about a $200 value). The deal was quoted via e-mail, then I went over to buy. Salesman was very nice and surprisingly didn't even discuss accessories. When I asked he brought over a price sheet and told me if I bought anything then, the best he could do was take 10% off their prices (which were high). I told him no thanks and have decided to purchase/install a few items myself with the help of the accessories forum.
When I went to business mgr. to sign all the papers, he tried to sell Honda Care warranty. When I told him I was going to buy online thru Bernardi, he agreed to match price of $1280 for 8 year 120k miles / $0 deductable. All in all this was a great experience with Open Road Honda.
My best freind is a Honda salesman here in St. Louis
and he said you may be able to pick it up in a few places for invoice (31.7) but has not herad of it going thru below invoice.
You must of got an "immaculate" deal.
In addition, I'd like to point out that (being as I don't know anyone in these forums) there's absolutely no one I feel I have to impress nor do I gain anything by fictionalizing the purchase I made.
Also, as a note to laxcoach, I also live on the Island and the 1/2 dozen or so local dealers I contacted were not within $500. of the price I paid.
However; Hillside Honda in Queens and Bay Ridge Honda of Brooklyn both gave me written prices of $31,218 + tax/tags. The only reason I drove to Jersey, (besides the $100. which in itself would not have been worth the 75 minute drive), was that the day before I purchased, Open Road called to tell me about there free "Remote Starter" offer (1 day only) that they had. The $200 remote starter value + the $100. price difference made it worth the drive.
One thing anyone interested in buying from Open Road Honda in Edison, NJ must know, is that you have to have the quote in writing in order for them to honor the price. They tell you that on their website when you request what they call an "Instaquote". That was the first thing the internet salesperson asked me when I told them I was there to buy the car. They then took my copy of Instaquote and made copy a for there records. Other than that, there were no tricks, trades or high pressure sales pitch to buy anything other than what I came to buy. I came back a few days after working deal to pick up car, and salesman picked me up at local train station. An hour and a half later I was driving home in my new Pilot.
Once again, it was a very good experience and I will be happy to respond to anyone out there that has any questions. Without this forum, I would not have gotten such a good deal.
Encouraged by your posting, I went today to the same dealership (Open Road Honda in Edison, NJ) looking for 2006 4WD Pilot EX-L/w Navi. The Internet price I have got - $31.7k (invoice) without destination. They would not negotiate down the price and they did not have the color I like.
Later today I have also have received e-mail from Route22Honda in Hillside, NJ offering the invoice price.
I will wait till next week. I hope they will be more agreeable closer to the month/year-end.
Anyone have a similiar problem in the NY tri-state area?
Hillside actually solicited me with their price via an e-mail ad a few days before I purchased at Open Road. I did call and spoke to their internet salesperson to firm up the details and availability.
With Bay Ridge I called the sales mgr. (not salesperson)on a recommendation from a friend. When I asked for a price he quoted me $31,918 + tax/tags. When I told him I was quoted 31,117 in Jersey he guessed it was "Open Road" and proceeded to warn me of all the potential pitfalls of buying from them. He then immediately dropped the price $700. to $31,218. and said why drive to Jersey which was about another 1/2 hour further from my home.
This probably would have worked for me, if I hadn't received the call from Open Road an hour later regarding their free remote starter. In fact, my plan was to go to Bay Ridge if something went wrong with Open Road. However, nothing went wrong.
I'm planning on getting an EXL w/Navi, but the lowest offer I have gotten in Phoenix, AZ is $200 above invoices. If anyone in AZ have gotten a better deal, please post dealer name. Thanks.
Huntington probably had the most competitive prices when I checked in Oct. and Nov. However, I couldn't get anyone to return my calls the 2 days before I purchased. (They did call 2 days after I purchased.)
If I were you I would request quote (via e-mail) from Hillside. They are in Jamaica, only 10 minutes past the Nassau border. See what kind of a quote you get and (if good),use it to bargain with your local dealers.
Good Luck and let us know how it turns out.
We took the Pilot on a round-trip to Nogales
last week. We like everything about it. Nice ride. Leather seats are comfortable. Good cockpit layout-easy to get used to. XM radio is nice(3 months free). Pleasantly surprised by gas mileage, 25.7 MPG. Cruised at various
speeds between 70-80 MPH. So far so good.
Good luck!
However, if the dealer said they would match Eloan's rate, why did you turn it down?

yeah, i don't know what the problem is with some dealers. I never did get to use Eloan, but I've used peoplefirst (now capitalone) in the past and the dealer accepted it gladly and never reported a problem (this was a volvo dealer).
I'm not sure if eloan is any different. According to eloan, they run the same process. I think some dealers are apprehensive based on some internet lending practices I heard about many years ago. Seems some banks used promisory notes and dealers had to jump through hoops to get paid. As far as I know, places like capitalone and eloan send you real blank checks ... meaning the dealer merely need to deposit it. I believe some dealers have just become gunshy altogether of online banks, unfortunately.
