Honda Cars of Mesa was also slightly below invoice on their internet qoute. Maybe the Pilots with NAVI are more in demand so they are less inclined to deal. One of the things I noticed on the forum here was that some people reported getting initial quotes of several hundred above invoice with the dealer being reluctant to go lower. They would then be patient, stop negotiating, and after about 2 weeks or so a dealer would initiate contact again with a lower price-usually right around or a little above invoice.
Hope you can get one for a price you feel good about-Good Luck!
I know I could always get a bike rack, but then I have to buy the hitch & towing package, so I was wondering if somebody on the board has tried the above configuration...
Anyway, at this point, where should I start negotiations?
Thanks

car configuration before year end...willing to drive
a bit for good deal. Best price in Northern NJ I got so far
was 30,750 to dest, tax , and tags.....thanks...
He didn't have a black one on the lot but got it within hours of me going to the dealership and signing a lease application. Adding the $550 destination fee plus a $699 Doc Fee, plus 6% sales tax of $1837,68, $250 DMV fee and a $6.50 State Fee brought the Out-the-Door price to $32,722.17. The Doc Fee was way high, but takes the place for this dealership of the all-profit dealer prep fee, and with the low price was well worth it. The DMV fee will actually be lower since we had a tag on our previous car that is being transferred.
He threw in wheel locks and agreed to add the accessories I wanted at dealer cost plus labor. That included running boards, day/night mirror, rear splash guards and roof rack cross beams. The parts came to $884 and the labor was $400, plus tax.
Everyone there was a pleasure to deal with, and they want to resurrect a dealership that's a little off the beaten track and had apparently been poorly managed before. I don't know that you'll get that kind of price, but they're definitely worth contacting.
By the way, I leased through Honda for 36 months/12,000 miles per year. The MSRP was $34,595, the 55% (It's 57%without NAV) residual was $19,027, the money factor was .00048. With no money down the payments are $388 per month.
Never having leased before, I hope I didn't screw up.
Again, thanks for all the information that helped so much.
Is there any Honda financing going on? I received an email that says 2.9% APR. Is the financing supported by specific dealer or by Honda in general?
2005/2006 Pilot Special AHFC A.P.R. Financing
2.9% APR for 36 months, 3.9% APR for 48 months and 4.9% APR for 60 months.Terms & Conditions. It goes through 1/3/06.
Happy Holidays!
Could you tell us which dealership/city did you use? That will be a great help.
Thanks
$31,300 - DCH Academy Honda, Old Bridge, NJ
$31,400 - Route 22 Honda, Hillside, NJ
$31,450 - Honda of Staten Island, State Island, NY
$31,534 - Clinton Honda, Clinton, NJ
$31,857 - David Michael Honda Of Freehold, Freehold, NJ
$32,258 - Open Road Honda, Edison, NJ
I was also able to get 2.9% for 36 month financing from Honda.
Once again, thanks for your help and keep helping others.
Cheers,
When I got home, I got another call from another dealership and they are offering me a $500 lower price. The second dealer also told me that as long as I haven't got the car, I can always change my mind and cancel the original contract.
My question is that can still ask the first dealer to match the price after I signed the contract? If he won't, do I have the right to cancel the contract and go with the second dealership?
Thanks
Just a thought.
In my case I paid $31,200, which is more than $1k under invoice $32,257 (with destination) and almost $4.6k under MSRP of $35,795. Use my numbers as a guideline, however, keep in mind that next month prices and financing rates may change.
Did they give you quotes over the phone then? I just signed for 32,800 today for a EXL w/navi at Lehigh Valley Honda. I was told they couldnt deal any lower, but I see that is bs. Tomorrow I plan on calling the places you got those quotes from. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
I did not talk to anyone on the phone. I did not provide my phone # to any dealer. Just e-mails. Within 2-3 day I had few nice offers. Only after I've received the best quote and confirmation that the dealer has the color I like, I called to schedule an appointment to pick up the car.
Additionally, when you have the e-mail quote, you have something in writing (in case your salesman is not around). I would not rely on phone calls too much.
Did you try Clinton Honda in Clinton, NJ? Their initial quote was $30,984 + $550 destination. Or see my earlier posting with a list of dealerships and their Internet quotes.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
Also, is there any advantages to buy before the new year?
i followed your advice and e-mailed several dealerships. best price so far is 31,900 for an 06 exl awd w/res. after hearing from everyone, would you suggest i email back telling them "here's my bottom line $xxxxx" or should i call them instead? you should receive a commission!
thanks
Patience! Do not rush with calling.
Now you send to all others e-mail: "I have an offer from your competitor for (your exact Pilot configuration) - $31,800 (or $31,750 - keep slightly below you best offer but still realistic). Can you do better?”:
Just make sure your are getting quotes WITH destination charge of $550. You will see, some dealers will try to beat your best offer by $100-200. Drop all those who cannot compete.
Good luck.
Pilot LX 2WD, base model, $24040, out door price, $26400,
Could someone give an opinion please?
You will have to ask the dealer if the destination charge is included in his/her quote. Some do include, some don't. Assume the worst.
Good luck.
Thanks

Drive it in good health!
no more offers from other dealers, however one dealer(hillside honda) wrote back advertising $30,718 for an awd exl-res. his original offer was 31,918 for an 06. there was no mention whether or not they were talking 05 or 06(this was a mailing list advertisement, not a personal note from the manager). the other kicker is destination charges were not inlcuded. those charges are about $550 or so, right? anyway, sale ends 12/31, but i'll be patient and play the game.
E-mail your contact at Hillside and ask. Be very specific about your desired Pilot configuration. Most likely it is 2006 and you should add $550. Keep the e-mail with $30,718 offer because it is dealer’s quote and you can always ask for this price. Ask for their inventory and meanwhile get your finance and insurance in order. I would not recommend waiting till last moment, unless you can wait for another month-end.
Are you in NJ? If yes, try Planet Honda, Union NJ via Internet. I’ve got the best offer from them. Second best was DCH Academy Honda.
There is no sale per se. However, some dealers are more than others eager to meet their quotas. Special financing rates end 1/3/06.
Good luck.
