I’ve still been waffling over the pilot w/ nav. Something that has really frosted my feelings is that it looks like dealers in some areas can do much better then up here in the Seattle suburbs. Not only are the prices they are shooting for much higher up here, but the inventory is no where near as extensive as in the so cal area—basically I’m comparing Renton Honda, Honda of Kirkland, S Tacoma Honda, which all will begrudgingly come in at invoice [of course trying to play with trade in and loan figures and such if they can] and down at Norm Reeves in so cal [Cerritos ca] they are at over 2,000 under invoice. How can they do this? Both the dealers here and there? Anyway, I got put off with the whole thing and filled my gas tank again! [over 50 bucks on my TrailBlazer] I’ve even been thinking of buying another TrailBlazer,, but you can’t use the nav and the cd player at the same time,,,, so I don’t know,,, I specifically did not like the Toyotas,, [did not even sit in the land cruiser,, 60, is about 30 too much!],, the new jeeps look kind of neat, but they are Chrysler products! I’m almost thinking I want more driver room then the pilot, that’s why I was looking at another chevy,,,,, but the Chrysler products, [jeeps, and dodge Durango] have a neat Bluetooth phone intergration,,,, maybe I should just keep my existing chevy and not have a payment for a year or so.

    Hi Mcdermott2,

I cannot give out the Sales Guy's name on this forum i think. Best is to get an internet quote and see if you get the same price... If you do not, then respond to this post and we will see how we can share this info.......
  • sanjuansanjuan Member Posts: 4
Yeah, just do an internet quote, you can get the $26031 base price instantly. I just tried and got the quote. What a pity I'm in Seattle, really envy you guys in northeast.

Hi buypilot - did you get the EXL AWD w/RES (DVD) or Navigation for that price ?
  • fxcoachfxcoach Member Posts: 11
I'm happy to report that yesterday I signed a deal for 2006 honda Pilot AWD EX-L with Navigation for $29,210.36 (including destination). The only extra charge was $50.00 processing fee. Being in Oregon ther is no state tax but I wouldn't have to pay it anyway since I'm taking it to Canada. It is actually manufactured in Canada (in May/2006 so it's not an old stock sitting on the lot). I bought from Gresham Honda which is in Gresham, Oregon about 10 miles from downtown Portland. I have done an extensive research over the last two months and got multiple quotes from dealers in the San Francisco area, Oregon and Washington. I got very good quotes from Cerrito in Oakland, CA but California has weird laws regarding the state tax, basically you have to pay it if you drive on their soil. To beat it you have to ship the car to over the state line. If you want to get good price don't bother with Seattle area dealers, they apparently get maximum $1500 incentive and won't even come close to the price I got in Oregon. If you don't want to go to Oregon (I drove down from Vancouver, BC, Canada) and still want to buy in the Seattle are I would recommend Bellevue Honda, they have huge selection of Pilots and are very accomodating which is not always the case. Another Seattle are dealer, after some phone conversations and e-mails, when presented with a low quote, had this to say
"...Chatting with people online about prices they recieved (sic) from other dealers seems a little shady to me, but I guess you got to go where the deals supposedly are because somebody tells you to...". Needless to say, I didn't dignify it with an answer. If you want a GREAT price and OUTSTANDING customer survice I recommend Gresham Honda in Gresham, OR (suburb of Portland). I dealt with two person (male and female) and they were very straightforward from the start. It certainly was worth the extra drive beyond Seattle. Last but not least I want to thank creators of this forum, all the contributors, especially PAULg16 for all the help I got. Coming her first and getting educated before contacting the dealers saved me a lot of money and made this purchase a very pleasant and painless experience. Thanks again. :)

Can anyone tell me what the lease price per month would be on $27,000 with $1500 down. This seems to be the going rate for the EXL AWD with nothing else added.
  • toasttoast Member Posts: 50
Using an MSRP of 33,595 with a price of $27,000 less your !1,500 down results in a capitalized cost of $25,500. Honda's best money factor is .0027 which is the equivalent of 6.48% interest. The residual for the Pilot EXL AWD is 56%.

The interest rate kills the lease benefit in my opinion. Your payment would be $305.39 plus out the door fees like License, registration and doc fees. These can easily add up to $1,500 or more depending on where you live. If your $1,500 was to go towards these fees your capitalized cost would be $27,000 and your payment would be $309.44.

I would wait until July, perhaps Honda will subsidize the money factor and your payment will be less.
  • mcdermott2mcdermott2 Member Posts: 68
I was planning on the $1500 being a total amount. It sounds like I might be closer to $3000 out the door.Thank you for the input. I lease for the business deduction and I live in NJ. I will check with you in July to see if there are any changes. Thanks again

    Which dealer please ?
  • helenchelenc Member Posts: 1
Thanks to everyone on this forum for helping us get the best deal on our new Pilot EX-L AWD. I just returned from purchasing my pilot at Keenan Honda in Doylestown, PA. This is the deal I got-
    Base price 26781.00 including destination
    170.00 doc fee, tags
    1738.50 tax
    Total 28689.50
I also purchased the 7 year/100,000 mile service contract but it was very expensive-1995.00. This dealer has what they call the Keenan Advantage that gives you perks (free oil change, lifetime inspections, lifetime tires, etc.) One of the perks is if you don't use the service contract by the end you get it all back. That was a tough decision. Thanks Again!

I just got back from Renton Honda and I’m ticked off. I’ve met with the ‘internet salesguy’ and told him that I’d been shopping and wanted to know if they could compete with a dealer in southern California; told him that I was quoted 368 a month for an 06 leather w/ nav, trading in my chevy—02 trailblazer, KBB trade in value of 10,750,,, on which I owe 5200.

The kid comes back with a sheet of paper and tells me ‘here it is, you are going to like it, bottom line 360 for 25 payments, then 10 payments of 391--- I say, fine, you have a deal,,, SO THEN the bozo says,, oops, these are the wrong numbers, goes back to his manager and comes back saying,, well the good news is,,, and has the numbers changed to 398 for 13 payments and 427 for 22 payments, I get tweaked and ask for my keys back [they were looking at my trade] and a partner of his comes with him and the keys and lays on the pressure,, how it’s only 20 bucks a month more and how it’s not fair to ‘internet sales guy’ [can’t use his name!!! grrr] and the 2nd guy was getting real pushy,,, after the 1st guy got insulting about my trade and my credit when he came back with the switch. I’M STEAMED. oh, he also told me the msrp was 38k something when I'd seen it at 35kish [and that's what someone listed above]

Just Recd a great deal on a 2006 2WD from Earnhardts in Phoenix. $23935 less tax and title - $ 26902 Out the Door.

Found the deal through Edmonds New Car Quote Program. Didn't even negotiate off their initial offer as it was approx $2500 less than every dealer's negotiated best price.

does anyone have thoughts on pricing for pilot 2wd lx in texas. i want the pared down version - cloth, no frilly cd stuff etc. one dealership said couldn't go lower than invoice price of $24, 294. i think it is possible. does anyone have thoughts on this?
  • markjennmarkjenn Member Posts: 1,142
I've never had very good luck with Renton and have had a couple fairly straightforward sales experiences at Bellevue. I made a reasonable deal six months ago on a Pilot at Bellevue. But.... I kept it simple and did a cash deal with no lease. My experience is that the fun and games begin when you come in looking for a particular lease or payment price as there are so many things they can play with. Buyers who come in talking payments often bring out the most predatory sales practices as they peg you as someone who can be manipulated. When you come in looking for a cash deal, they'll usually call off the dogs.

FYI, my experience in living in the Seattle area for nearly twenty years and buying a lot of cars is that it is one of the more "firm" markets in the country - I've had dealer after dealer turn down offers that were considerably better than the rest of the country is getting. And published net KBB prices are often pure fiction.

You might give Bellevue a try... good luck,

    - Mark
  • alanrosenbergalanrosenberg Member Posts: 28
    Mark,

Thanks, I may try Bellevue again; or I may just buy the thing in California; [I don’t want to do all that driving just now] it’s funny things are so much more expensive up here, [except for homes being 30 or 40% lower], I wonder why cars are so much more expensive?

I understand it’s best to separate the purchase from the financing and the trade in, but sometimes it’s hard to do things separate, especially if you want a lease instead of buying and frankly if I wanted to sell cars, I’d be a car salesman, so I have a trade and it give the shark so much more room to maneuver; but it’s not hard to figure out how much down I’m putting and the monthly payments; I actually faxed American Honda about the boneheads tactics and I’ll see if that does anything, maybe they’ll honor the deal they offered then took away.

I believe you can get $2000-$3000 under invoice. I'm in Dallas and was shopping Saturday. Got quote of $25000 for EX 2wd, $26500 for EXL 2wd.
  • lawrencejlawrencej Member Posts: 22
Honda dealers in Seattle said they would not sell new Hondas to residents of Canada. did you encounter any such problem in Oregon at Gresham Honda? Also did you wrap everything up on-line before you went down to pick it up? A little overview of your purchase would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Get an e quote from Reliance Honda in Lake Jackson, Texas. It may be worth you driving a few hours or flying down to Houston to save some money. They are by far the most competitive dealer I have come into contact with. We plan on buying one from them this week.

Got my 2006 Pilot EX-L on Wednesday evening but didn't have a minute to post info till now. Bankston Honda in Lewisville, TX (just north of Dallas) is selling in-stock Pilots for $6,000 under MSRP.

For my silver EX-L, MSRP 32,395, it was 26,395, plus 499 pro-pack (cargo mat, splash guards, wheel locks) already on the car, total sale price 26,894. With a $55 dealer doc fee, tax and registration, it was 28,212 out the door.

Very easy deal with Bankston (an AutoNation chain dealer). They quoted the 6K-under price by email, in response to my quote request thru their website. The internet manager said over the phone that all units had at least the 499 pack and they wouldn't budge on that, but he did verify that the stock number we were quoting didn't have any additional dealer installed stuff.

I called at 8 pm to tell them I was on the way from about 40 miles away, and they close at 9:00. I got there at 8:45...the internet manager turned me over to a junior sales guy and went on home. They were happy to write me up a no-nonsense deal in record time. No surprises at all. We were out the door by 10:00, and that included a 15 minute test drive, credit app and taking my 2004 Odyssey lease return (not part of the deal).

I just love the truckster so far...my 14yo daughter is flipping out over the XM radio. This was definitely my best car buying experience in 20 years of it.

This dealer and two others in the area confirmed the ladder-type incentive...Bankston plans to get 110% of their sales goal and their factory-to-dealer money goes up to 3,000. The higher-volume dealer 3 miles from my house in Arlington, TX could not do better than 1,000 over Bankston's deal, because they didn't expect to reach the 110%.

Yeah, I'll drive 40 miles on a Wednesday evening to save $1,000 off an already good deal! Thanks to this forum for helping me know what could be possible.

I bought for $2950 under invoice on an EXL at Russell Smith in Houston. They should do about the same on an LX. They quoted 2750 under and I negotiated the last 200. Sounds like whatever dealer you are talking too is just playing games. It would help to know where you are.
  • rishipriship Member Posts: 65
    Owlwho,

What's up with your numbers. 26,894 for the car, yet 28,212 out the door. 6.25% texas tax would be over 1600 by itelf. Its over 200 for title, Yet you have only added 1322. Do you have a misprint somewhere?
  • pauleycpauleyc Member Posts: 13
I have a check in hand and looking to purchase the pilot w/in one week. I've done some dealing w/ several dealers and the best price on the above w/ NAVI is $29,254 (including $550 freight). That's just over $3,000 under invoice. If I want w/o NAVI, they will go almost $3400 under invoice ($26,895). I guess NAVI is more demand than non-NAVI ... justifying the additional $400.

Question is "Deal or No Deal?" I'm leaning towards the non-NAVI and just getting a good aftermarket one.???

Thought I'd add to the information on this board, which was incredibly helpful to me in purchasing our Pilot.

We're in Austin, Texas. I sent out a request for quotes for a 2006 Pilot EX-L w/ RES through AutoBytel. They forwarded it to four nearby dealerships. I received responses from all, but only one actually quoted a price. Because of what I'd been reading on this forum, I wasn't impressed with the offer; but I appreciated a dealership (Gillman in San Antonio) actually providing a number instead of the "call us to talk" line.

In the meantime, I saw that two Houston area dealers names were popping up in the forum as being customer- and deal-friendly: Russell & Smith in Houston and Reliance in Lake Jackson. I left messages with the Internet Sales Manager at each dealer. The R&S manager got back the same day with a great offer, but the car wasn't the color we wanted. Back and forth for a day, and we then agreed on an acceptable alternative: silver EX-L 4WD with RES, out the door price of $30,933 (car price was $28,878.61; balance was sales tax, inspection & title fees, document fees, etc.). Before reaching an agreement I tried to get one or more of the Austin area dealers to get close to this price. Reaction? First, utter (or feigned?) disbelief that the price was real; and then I was told "if that's the deal, you should take it." I guess they make their living selling to people who don't research the price competition or are unwilling to drive three hours to save thousands.

After getting a faxed purchase order confirming the price from R&S, I heard from Reliance, who offered the same car for $500 less. I explained I'd made a committment to R&S, but would be in touch if the deal wasn't all it appeared to be or got flaky. It didn't.

Drove down Saturday to pick up the car. In the meantime, R&S offered a financing deal through Honda Finance that was 2 points better than what I'd arranged. We showed up a bit earlier than we'd told them we'd be there, so the car wasn't ready, but we ate some hot dogs, hung around long enough to sign the paperwork, and drove out as very satisfied customers! Easiest car purchase I've made.

The price may not be the best reported here, but I was very pleased. If you want to find a dealer willing to deal, contact Russell & Smith. (Or Reliance, but since I didn't purchase there I have no experience other than a very pleasant phone call with the sales manager, who seemed to be for real.) By the way, R&S said they pick up customers at the airport, so a round-trip drive isn't required.

Thanks again to all who have passed on information from the consumer's standpoint. It truly changes the nature of the car-buying experience, when a buyer has as much or more information about actual sales prices as the seller. The salespeople that have figured this out deserve our business; those that haven't deserve to lose sales to those who do.

Could you let me know where you get the $26,895 price for EX-L 4x4 in the DC area?

I am looking for this one in D.C area. Does the price include other costs, e.g. doc/reg fee, besides the $550 freight?

    Thanks.

Hendrick Honda in Woodbridge, VA. I believe they have the EX-L remaining in Silver and Black. They may have a Desert Mist Metallic as well. I bought the last Amazon Green last night!

Good luck! If they don't have the color you want, try Fairfax Honda-- I was able to get them to come close to that price. The rest of the area dealers (Bill Page Honda in Falls Church, Ken Dixon Honda in Maryland and Koons Honda in Manassas) priced the EX-L way toooo high.
  • rcegglrceggl Member Posts: 31
1995 seems very high. I hope it is at least zero deductible. Good luck Helen.
  • pauleycpauleyc Member Posts: 13
Yep, someone beat me to it. It was Hendrick Honda. Fairfax was close, but no cigar. Tysons all but hung up on me when I told them the deal I had. Very dissappointed. I will probably take the Hendrick deal this week. :D

the aftermarket nav units are ok, but pale in comparison to the factory unit. I got a garmin street pilot 2610 after moving to the seattle area [streets are crazy up here] and it’s a great help, but with the Pilot’s NAV, you hit a trigger on the steering wheel and you talk to the NAV unit and can change radio volume, air conditioning settings and all sorts of other stuff.
  • hfzeushfzeus Member Posts: 39
The 2610 is a few years old. It is still available for about $500 new, compared to about 2 grand for the add on with the Pilot.

The newer Garmins have voice prompts and live traffic, which the Honda NAV does not. In addition, the updates for the Garmins are much less expensive and each disc will allow you to do two units.

The Honda/Acura navigation units are cool toys (although the RL is the only one I'd buy as it has live traffic), but I do not think the initial cost plus expensive, dealer-installed updates are worth the price.

How much can I expect to pay for an EXL 2WD w/DVD? I live in S. Fl (east coast) but I don't mind traveling a little to get a good deal. Anybody out there have any experience in my neck of the woods?

Here in Indianapolis, We just bought a silver Pilot today: EX-L AWD with RES. Our price, which included rear splash guards and the all weather floor mats was $28,900, including destination. Our out the door price was 30,685.25 which was primarily sales tax [6%]. This forum was invaluable - especially when it came to information about the incentives and holdbacks. We negotiated entirely through email. Some dealers were more willing to do so than others. We ended up buying locally when a local dealer was willing to match out of town offers we received. I highly recommend going the email route: much much less time invested [if you have done your homework first], less stress, less emotion. Thanks all!

Hi! I've been researching this board for about a month and decided to (finally) take the plunge soon. Earlier this month, the consumer guide website listed the $2000 dealer incentive until 7/5 but now it's GONE! Link:

    ">link titlehttp://auto.consumerguide.com/Auto/New/reviews/full/index.cfm/id/38699/Act/Price- - s/

Will this even matter? I've noticed that folks are still getting $2K-$3K below invoice. Anyone have any insight on any deals in July? thanks!! :)
  • nylajnylaj Member Posts: 24
I just got a quote of $28,194 plus Tax, Title, Tag, Fees on a 2006 Pilot EX-L 2WD w/RES. Based on what I have been reading here, I thought I might do a little bit better than this. Is this a good price? I too am ready to (finally) take the plunge. I'd like to see those dealer incentives too. I also got a $24,689 on an EX 2WD model. Can anybody help? I'm finally ready to roll! :) Thanks!!
  • nylajnylaj Member Posts: 24
Hey Drivein, if you go $28,900 on the EX-L AWD with RES, shouldn't I expect to do better than $28, 194 for 2WD? My price includes destination but not tag, title, tax or doc fee. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks to all!! This forum is really invaluable!!
  • pauleycpauleyc Member Posts: 13
I already have the voice activated NAVI in an Accord, so I know what its capable of. I didn't think they trickled down that technology to the Pilot b/c the O5 NAVI was not worth the $$ to me. Now I understand that the 06 has the Accord "like" NAVI *and* a rear camera .. I may consider it, but as you see from my original post .. is it worth $2300? The only bonus I see is that if it will take a rear camera ... it should be pretty easy to tap into for DVD playback :D

The new portable units are leaps and bounds over the 2610's .. and provide the ability to take it on vacations/other cars/etc.. The Honda NAVI does add cool factor though...
  • driveindrivein Member Posts: 15
I would think so!! I used both Consumer Reports new car prices [ordered the printout that can arrive via email], Edmunds, and other car sites for pricing info and have been thinking about this [reading/researching] for about a year. What I found helpful to have was the INVOICE price and knowledge about the current incentives and holdbacks [CR gave me this info and there are earlier posts plus info on this site]. I threw out an offer below invoice based upon what I was seeing on this site and also taking into consideration what I knew about the incentives/holdbacks - essentially lowballing them. While all told me my number was silly, I asked them to counter and we went from there. I NEVER provided a counter offer but just keep having them bid down. I did not initially share my "research" with them but ultimately shared it to have them revise their numbers downward. Also, I shared with the dealers the other offers. Some dealers more motivated to deal [and beat competitors] than others.

For $499 you can get a really nice Garmin c330 that can do just about anything a factory GPS can do...plus it can go in any car.

I like factory NAV, but I'm really blown away by Garmin's products....nice stuff

Thanks to everyone that has posted their deals. I was able to purchase a 2006 EX-L 4x4 with Navi for $27,208 from Keenan Honda in Doylestown, PA. I live in the Baltimore, MD area and no one here would come close to that price. I'll be saving over $2000 for a short drive north.

Thanks again for posting the great deals at Keenan. :D
  • macy1macy1 Member Posts: 10
Would you please share the breakdown on your $ 27,208 price, since tax and tag can vary so much from state to state. I'm planning to go to PA also and would like to compare to the other base quote I received from another PA dealership.
    Thanks!
  • bulldog96bulldog96 Member Posts: 4
Thats the base price. Taxes are 5% as i'm a Maryland resident. Destination is $550. Tag fees in MD add another $250. Because I'm buying out of state I have to remit those tax and tag fees when I register with the MD DMV. Out the door price to Keenan was $27,758.
  • macy1macy1 Member Posts: 10
    Thanks.

Did you check Sussman, and would you have any reason not to buy there? They will not tell me how long the Pilot has been in inventory.

Before your message, I had already requested (yesterday) an internet quote from Keenan but never received a response. I will try again.
  • bulldog96bulldog96 Member Posts: 4
All the other dealers from which I recieved quotes were in the Baltimore area, so I did not check Sussman. The only reason I even thought to check Keenan was because of a post I had seen by another user listing their deal. Maybe you could get better than the price I did but you'd be hard pressed. Every other dealer I talked to was not even close.

Hi, I like to thank everyone on this forum for all the great info. I just pick up my 2WD EX-L w/ Navi in Desert Rock this monday from Earnhardt Honda in Avondale, AZ. I pay $28,877, which included window tint and alarm system, so that’s ~$2400 below invoice. The OTD price was $32,088 (7.8% tax). They initially gave me a quote of $3000 below invoice, but as soon as I got to the dealership, I knew there’s no way in hell they were going to sell you the vehicle for that price. But after all said and done, I got the price I wanted to pay and they were $1000 lower than any of the other local dealers. Overall positive experience, but their internet/fleet department operates very similar to a regular sales department once you’re at the dealership. For thoes that are considering the Navi, I highly recommend it, it's definitely worth the extra cost.
  • nylajnylaj Member Posts: 24
Congrats on you deal and your new Pilot!! At $27758 for a 4WD EX-L w/NAVI, you are still $436 below my quote for a 2WD EX-L w/RES. My quote included Dest. only. Do you think I should press for a better deal? I guess I was expecting that the 2WD would come out less than the 4WD. Is the RES more than the NAVI?! I haven't looked at that again. Anyone else out there have any insight? Thanks much to all!!
  • mnardo72mnardo72 Member Posts: 5
as of yesterday Keenan has quoted 4wd ex-l w/res for $28,275 and the 4wd ex-l w/nav for $28,800. they have a lot of inventory!!!
  • sacambsacamb Member Posts: 21
Has anyone seen or is expecting any advertised specials for financing on the Pilot in the Southern NJ / PA area ?

Also has anyone bought from Marty Sussman Honda in PA ? Would you recommend them ? They are quoting $26886 + tax + tags for a 2WD EXL w/ RES ( good price - right ? )
  • sacambsacamb Member Posts: 21
The NAVI is definitely more than the RES. And 2WD should come out less than the 4WD.
  • nylajnylaj Member Posts: 24
VERY good price. I'm originally from NJ and I'm Jealous!! I can't get any S.FL dealer below ~$28,200 at this time. Was this their Internet deal? TAKE IT!! :) You have given me hope. I'm hanging in there for a BETTER deal!
