I'm looking at a purchasing a XC90 2.5T FWD with the Versatility and Premium packages (MSRP: $41,905). Best dealer is offering is invoice, PLUS regional advertising fee and LESS the $2,575 Premium Package incentive.
Good deal or not? Would not seem to budge off this. Only two dealers in town and the other one, on an internet/fleet quote, offered the same.
That's the best we were able to find...invoice (which included the $695 destination charge) PLUS regional advertising fee ($250) LESS the $2,575 Premium Pkg incentive (which is the invoice price of the premium pkg). We shopped around to 4 dealers and this was the best we could get. We felt it was a good deal not only based upon the comparison prices of the other dealers, but also when we used this to try to get another dealer (that was very close in price to this calculation) to go lower, he stated that he couldn't go that low because that was already "very aggressive pricing". So we figured that this must be the 'bottom price' and we didn't think we could get anyone to go lower. Hope that helps!
finally pulled the trigger on this baby on 12/30, now i am the proud owner of a 2006 XC90 with metallic paint (willow green), premium and versatility package.
the car was actually a demo car with 6200 miles on it, but it is clean and still has the new car smell.
We were told that it has been driven by one of their executives and has been in good care. We were able to negotiate it down to $33.5K, and paid it with cash.
I'm trying to close a deal on a 2.5T FWD with Premium and Versatility packages, and metallic paint ($41905 MSRP/$39021 invoice). The dealer is offering $2575 off invoice + another $500 dealer cash, for a total of $3075 off invoice (which includes destination). Is that good?
I think there's more to be had because Edmunds is showing a Manufacturer to Dealer cash back incentive of $2500. I pushed for this with the dealer, in addition to the complimentary Premium package, but they said it's for the V8's, which can't offer a complimentary Premium package since it's included on the V8's. I don't think that's true as the incentive would say that. I believe the dealer just won't let me have some or all of that incentive. Again, am I off-base here?

Here is a question I have about my recent purchase of the Volvo XC90: The dealership was trying to push an exterior treatment called Xzilon (molecular adhesion). He said we get a lot of acid rain in our area and its a must. What do you think? I think the additional cost is about $400. Worth it?

It looks like the Premium Package discount has been extended until January 9 but Volvo increased the base price of the 2.5T by $430 effective January 3.
I've read a few post on this board on the XC90 2.5T AWD vs the V8. I'm about to seal the deal on an XC90. Here's my question.... I will never tow anything with this SUV; (I don't expect it to drive like a sports car either. ) From the reviews that I read, its all about the V8. But with a family of 5; will the 2.5T be enough or would the V8 be a better choice? I really don't see a need for a V8 in my case. The most my XC90 would ever haul is all 5 of us and luggage. Any thoughts??????

Not to mention more room for the kids. Now the only question I have is about the motor size. I want to hear from real world owners.... so thank you in advance!!! I have only 48 hours to make my final choice!
I've taken trips when we were 6 aboard my 2.5T XC90 with some luggage. The power is just fine. The 2.5T gives you lots of low end torque; this is what you really need if you don't intend to drive it like a sports car.

So it'll be a '06 XC90 2.5T AWD Titanium Gray w/ Graphite leather; Premium & Versatility pack; Premium sound; heated seats; park assist & a set of mud flaps to boot! All for $38k. I don't think that I could do much better any where else with this price.
I recently traded in a 2004 xc90 t6 awd because of the lack of power. I now have a 2006 v8 and I am plesantly suprised. I have actually been getting better gas mileage along with better performance. I don't drive like a lead foot, but if I need to move the vehicle now, I wan't that option available to me. So, I have had the v8 for about 3 weeks and I am totally satisfied. Mine is a v8 with NAV, DVD Entertainment, bluetooth, cold weather pkg, premium and versatility.
I vote for 2.5T as well. We have it since 09/2004 - 30,000 miles - 4 trips to the ski resort with 5 people and tons of ski gear - never feel a lack of power. It feels more agile than 2.9 I6 S80 due to the nicely tuned turbo and almost full torque available at just 1500 RPM.
You can add my vote to the 2.5T camp. Of course, all those who voted for 2.5T are proud owner of one, so we may have our bias, but that is exactly the "real world" advice your are looking for. The only comment I might add is to make sure you test-drive both 2.5T and V8 to experience the difference, so that there is no regret. By your own reasoning, I think you pretty much know the answer already. With either engine, you sure will enjoy the XC90, as we all have.
Thank you all for the "real owners" advice!! I have driven the V8; and I will not lie... its nice and will move! It seems like a waste for me to have the V8 & only drive around town & make a couple of vacation trips a year. I wanted to hear from 'real people' who have the 2.5T and drive it day in & out. I think I needed to feel reasured that the 2.5T would have enough gusto for a family of 5! (thanks again!) I have finalized the deal; now the waiting begins! But I'm sure that I will enjoy the 90 very much!!
Well, I changed the order! We went with the V8 so we never had to say I wish that I had more horsepower. We plan on keeping this SUV for 8+ years so the V8 seems to be the best bet for now. Plus if we're ever stationed in Florida; I'd need the extra horsepower to pull a set of ski doo's!!!

the quotes that everyone is sharing... is that the FINAL price as you drive off or is that the negotiated price which doesn't include taxes, licenses/fees, etc.
My price on the '06 V8 ($42,200) is the final "out the door" price. It includes everything: packages, tax, tag, & title. Along with all other fees & delivery.
Got this reply from a dealer 60 miles away. What does anyone else think? How much more below $46500 should I shoot for? I've bought a Volvo demo wagon before.
What concerns me, if that demo damage shows on a VIN search, how will that affect my resale in 5-8 years (will keep at least that long).

Sorry, I should have clarified: the damage is fixed, the paint is perfect. And it apparently won't show on Carfax, since it was dealer owned. Does that change how you feel? I'm thinking I should still be looking for better than $6k from invoice. I'm closer to $7k under on a new V8 (not as loaded) elsewhere.
We only have one dealer in Utah and my price is 47,400. Touring pkg, climate, Bi-Xenon lights, Int Air Quality, Red Paint, light color leather. I have not settled on that price, we are still arguing with salesman and may go out of state. invoice is 47,103. How are you getting these low prices?
I know the Dealer you are talking about. They told me that they don't have to deal since they are the only game in town. I live in KY and Child attends BYU. So, I bought my new Volvo in Atlanta. You can fly to Denver or California, etc, and drive back! Save tons! Really. I am really disapointed with that Utah Dealer and especiallly their Body Shop.
That dealer is the reason I don't drive a Mercedes and thankfully there is another Porsche/Audi dealer in town. Prices in Calif are much better and I can fly there, stay with family and drive it home or have it delivered to my door for $500 (which is cheaper than 2 tickets, meals etc.) My husband knew the original K.G. and always said you get a cork screw with every car since you just been S*)#%&%. Nathan7 - $5000.00 damage on a new Volvo is considered minor. Parts and labor are very expensive. I recommend leasing the V8 because with high Residual values on the V8 and the huge discount you may find it in your favor.
The dealer wants out and you can protect yourself by leasing and having a GFV.
Also, the MSRP went up by $435 after the first of the year, so is the actual sticker on your car this amount or less?

It's a company discount somehow linked to the Ford X Plan. The dealership was in Sarasota, FL. Car from Miami.
Part of the delay in my getting a XC90 was that I wanted Titanium Grey ONLY and must be a 5 seater. There were lots of 7 seaters but I wanted the floor storage in the 5 seater. The third row was entirely useless for me.
I just leased a 2006 XC90 V8 from Red Bank Volvo. Sticker was $50,000. Has all options except navigation system and rear seat DVD which I don't need. Put $1600 down and my payments are $530 per month. I qualified for the lowest tier due to my high credit rating. Was going in with the intention of buying but that lease deal sounded too good. Plus I can walk away in 3 years and get a new one or something else. I only drive around 10,000 miles annually so I think this was the best bet. Fabulous car by the way, very satisfied with the exception of a few things. All in all though, great bang for the buck!

Just bought a new '06 XC90 2.5T AWD metalic paint, prem, vers, for about $4000 below invoice with <= 30,000 miles maint svc free, on Jan 31. Overall a very positive buying experience. It appeared that on the last day of the month for the free prem offer and the salesperson wanted to make his monthly quota. I suspect the free prem offer will be back again soon, otherwise the vehecle is too expensive comparing to the MDX.
