Would you like to be able to track your truck once it has been put on the rail? You can do it by going to this address:
    http://www.bnsf.com/cws/tracing/index.html

Simply enter the last 8 digits of your VIN# and you can see where your truck is at any given moment and know it's estimated delivery date.

Brutus... off the track a bit. the Teton fivers are huge! heavy too. that's because they're made of wood. we looked at them but I didn't like the trussed wood roof & wood frame walls (everywhere). went with Airstream instead. built every bit as tough as the Teton (& probably even tougher!). NO WOOD! everything is laminated (aluminum walls, roof... entire exterior is fiberglas (including the roof.. NO rubber!)). I can walk EVERYWHERE on it (and I'm not a "skinny" guy by any means) & it does not even budge (no "spongy" at all). also, this coach has torsion-bar axles (NO leaf springs... the wheels are mounted to the torsion bars (not the axles) which gives 9" of road clearance under them & no less than 14" EVERYWHERE else (even right under the black water clean out)! awesome. oh, the only thing you see under this thing are the axles & the spare tire. even though the coach weighs 10K it's gross is 14.5K (which would put us over the GCWR quite a bit if we max loaded it). however; no way we'll stuff that much weight into the thing so we ought to be right around gross when fully loaded. quite frankly, even the big Tetons don't have this kind of beef (because they don't use those MASSIVE tortion bar axles). everything under the thing is massive... just like the SD's. and found it off the net. hey, don't laugh about those "transporters". wasn't too long ago that Dick Tracy's "wrist" TV was a blooming "miracle". look around today (only 30 years later)... and could tell you REAL computer "stories" that you'd find difficult to believe (working with them since early 60's)... like 30K ("KB", not "MB") of core memory that cost $30K (almost as much as our truck)!

Bess... the dealer will stay with the agreed upon price of the truck (because you know the inventory cost) but will probably try to run the price up on extra "goodies" that they provide b4 you actually sign it off & take possession. we've already "cleared" any extra dealer costs with ours & have agreed (reluctantly) to an additional small charge for "prep". but we "weighed" everything (price paid vs allotment) & felt it was still an excellent deal for us AND the dealer (3% over invoice). this vehicle line is in high demand in our immediate area & the dealers around here only talked "list" (forget THAT!). went 250 miles & saved $4,500. then told ALL the dealers around here they had better do a re-think if they want to remain in business (because more & more the net is going to begin to dominate purchase decisions & they had better get with it).

thanks for the info on the coinholders....the search fucntion at ford-diesel.com is currently shut down, but i looked through most of the forums anyway. Lots of good topics there as well as here, but no info on the coinholders....guess i'll have to wait till the search function is back.

No big deal, I am getting good at going in and out of the 9' door opening. I just fold one mirror in. If they are a pain to R&R I may just forget about changing them. I tell you if you drive these psd easy you get awsome mpg, I have got the manual and I got almost 23mpg this last tank.

So, I figured out the mystery of weird dates..
    My truck status went from:
'as of 10/9, scheduled build week of 10/25, delivery of 11/8'
    to
'as of 10/18, locked in, scheduled build week of
    10/25, delivery of 11/8'
    to
'as of 10/28, scheduled build week of 10/28,
    arrival of 11/15'
Seemed weird that it would say as of 10/28 when I called on 10/23... But the real meaning of the message is: The actual date of build is 10/28..

    to
    (just checked today 10/30)
'as of 10/29, truck is released from the plant, with arrival of 11/14'

I have to tell ya'll this info, cause my wife really doesn't care to hear anything more about trucks, and I have to tell someone..

My coin holder gave up the ghost a few months ago. I didn't want some Mickey Mouse model glue fix. I figured for 30 grand, Ford should fix it. I brought it back to the dealer. Ford doesn't make JUST the failed part so they replaced the whole fold down console. Don't fix it yourself. Let Ford spend some money designing a replacement part that will keep working for several years. They wont know there is a problem with something, until people bring it back. Save the home remedies for after the warranty goes out.

I know the feeling about sharing empathy w/the customer. I used to sell Lincoln/Mercury's about 6 years ago for about 7 months. Also realized it wasn't for me. It did make me a better negotiator when buying a vehicle though. I usually let the salesperson know up front that I was in the business and share just enough dealer activity info to let them know I won't be taking a lot of game playing. I'm also very quick at putting the squeeze on any BS tossed my way. Also taught me to walk away when I've had enough. In a perverse way, I kind of enjoy helping friend negotiate a deal when they buy a vehicle. It's nice being on the other side of the desk. If all goes well, I will be doing it for myself on a SD before Feb 99.

Reading here for a year - ready to buy - visited rural dealer with an abundance of trucks on his lot - stated my truck and options - dealer gave me a price of about 3% over kelly blue book no discussing - but then handed me a letter from Ford that stated a 6 to 8 month expected wait for this F350 4x4 Lariat SC SRW V10 - he stated that dealers that told me different should be asked to write their delivery date down and agree to pay me $10 a day for every day late - he stated certain allotments are determined for such vehicles per region based on gas efficiency and air quality - I believe that I am in the Chicago region and that for my particular vehicle the allotment is 60 vehicles per month for the entire region. I intend to visit local city dealers this week and to try autobytel.
    Please advise.
I was also told that the camper package rather than snow plow package without electronic shift on the fly would allow me the best personal plowing option both cost and function wise. As long as I put a reasonable size plow on my vehicle - no big V blade, I would get more for my money, not viotate the warranty, and have a better plowing situation for my personal use. I was told while electronic shift on the fly is an acceptable option with the snowplow package, his personal way to go would be to avoid it if I decide to plow. One year earlier another dealer told me that in checking with Ford they recommended the manuel locking hubs with the snowplow package - that is, they recommended not getting the electronic shift on the fly option.
    Please advise.

Keh4x4, although I agree that a 30,000+ vehicle should be perfect, if theres an easy home fix that doesn't cost me any time or $$, for a trivial piece, then I'll give that a try..
Reasons for me to do it myself:
    - I feel this is a trivial piece of equipment that doesnt increase/decrease the value of the truck.
    - It would be a hassle for me to leave my truck while they replace the console.. Or even to wait an hour or so each time..
    - They're going to replace it with the same unit that will likely fail..

I'm sure there will be enough warranty claims without mine added to the mix.
When I hear that ford has a true fix, maybe I'll look into having it replaced..
    ----------
    Tom18,
Although I've heard of folks waiting some time for truck with V10 + lariat.. 6-8months seems a bit excessive.. Although I can't confirm/deny the 'regional' allocation story, we know for a fact that theres also a 'dealer specific' allocation as well.
So, if the region is limited, its even more important to use a dealer that has a larger allocation for the region. Some questions you can ask, (not sure if they'll answer you).
    a. How many total SD's are you allocated for this month.
    b. What percentage of the total are alloted for V10
    c. What percentage of the total are alloted for lariat

An allotment sheet a dealer showed me all their allotment breakdown categories, (engine, DRW, Lariat), which the dealer only alloted 3% of 12 trucks/month for V10. as 3% of 12 is less than 1, the dealer would have to wait 2 months just to have allotment for the V10 and get the order accepted.. (they had 3% V10, 3% 5.4L, 94% PSD), I went to a different dealer..

Go to the city and look some more..

Where do you live?? If you are in the ILL. area, I would recommend Mangold Ford, in Eureka ILL. They are in the heart of farm country and MOVE alot of trucks. I got mine for $500.00 over invoice...had it 8-weeks to the day order was placed and it was a V-10. That wait does seem a bit on the extreme side for a SD-350. If you would like more information on how and who to contact at this dealership...let me know....
  • lewaclewac Member Posts: 151
the dealer's blowing smoke. don't waste any more time with 'em. follow gossamar's advice & you ought to have your truck in 8-12 weeks. there's many places out there that'll sell you a truck at a good price & also has excellent allotment. as gossamar's dealer is probably closest... go for it. allotments are updated weekly based upon the prior 3 months sales. that dealer you visited just isn't pushing trucks. note that we drove 250 miles to consummate a deal so it's not unusual that you get no "respect" locally.
  • lewaclewac Member Posts: 151
still think the 265's are taller. haven't measured them side by side but they look taller to me. we ordered the psd with manual tranny as well. and I'm a "smooth" driver so hopefully we can get some of that great mileage (unloaded, of course). wow! can't wait.
  • bessbess Member Posts: 972
I think I may have been the one who said the 235/85 and 265/75 are the same diameter. BUT, I've not seen both side by side so I could easily be wrong.
    235/85 r16 calcs out to be 31.7
    265/75 r16 calcs out to be 31.6

It also makes sense to me that they would be close, otherwise the factory would have to tweak the speedodmeter depending on which tire was selected.

Everyone might want to check out this URL.....

    http://www.azstarnet.com/~zil/suburb/gearcalc.htm

It migh help when comparing different tire sizes. I am sure there are others but this has several calculators all in one place.

Does anyone know how to trace where a Ford was originally shipped using a VIN #? A local dealer who is NOT a Ford dealer (sells little Asian cars) has a new Y2k F250 on the lot. He says he ordered it through a Ford dealer friend for snowplowing, then got a late model plow truck in trade. I'm wondering if it was stolen, wrecked or flooded and went to the salvage auction. I tried and failed with the railroad site at post #306, probably because it isn't in transit. The truck runs and drives (and smells) like new. Could be a good deal if it's straight. Any ideas? Thanks.
  • bessbess Member Posts: 972
Not sure how to check for wrecked/salvaged. I did see a vin check for lemoned vehicles.
    http://www.kbb.com/carfax.html

If you like the truck, you should be able to get it for a good price as this dealer can't possibly sell it as a 'new' truck..
  • jraskejraske Member Posts: 131
I would be real careful about buying a "used" 2000
truck. I guess I have a real phobia about buying
a vehicle with only a few thousand miles on it. I always wounder why would someone sell or trade in a vehicle thats hardly used? Unless its a repo and you can find out for sure I wouldent trust it.
It could be a lemon that could become your worst nightmare, or like you already said, could be stolen, salvaged, etc.
Just to much to worry about for the few thousand you might save.I have had opertunitys in the past for what looked like good deals, but my phobia got the best of me and I passed on them and bought new vehicles.
I know some people make great deals on slightly used vehicles, but I dont think its worth the risk.I would rather wait the eight weeks for my
F350 then end up with a nightmare.

For those of you who purchased a F250 SD CC V10
4X4 Lariat, How much over invoice did you pay?
  • viperleviperle Member Posts: 31
I recently purchased a 2000 SD 2WD Crew Cab Lariat with a V10 and 3.73 ratio. Can someone tell me how reliable is this engine? I've own a 96 Dodge RAM with a 5.9, and it has been a GREAT truck. With 85,000 and never any problems.

I'm not brand loyal. Please give me an object view only. No Ford or Dodger lovers needed, please. Please backup your viewpoints. Thanks.

$200 over invoice. Ordered Aug. 28, being built this week. Looking at 12 weeks to delivery, week of Nov. 15.
  • paull1paull1 Member Posts: 65
Oops,,, my mistake, the word was "Bucked" not "bumped". This was again verified as meaning "in production". I also found out about the date confusion. My VPOC message "as of 11/3 your vehicle is scheduled to be built the week of 11/1 with an estimated arrival the week of 11/22". I've been told that 11/3 is the date of the next status update. It's starting to make sense, this is getting scary.

$290.70 over invoice. Ordered 9/20, should be built this week although may already be built last week (see 330, 331). Delivery promised week of 11/22. Lariat SC V10 148" ESOF, etc.

We oredered our 250 SD, 4X4 in New Orleans at Bohn Ford for $100.00 over invoice. People in this area should check with Hugh (the sales mgr.) I am going out of my way by 100 miles but it's worth it to save 2000.00. Lots of luck in your shopping.

Got a call from the guy we wrote the check out to at the Ford dealer. We gave him a check from Nations Bank through carfinance.com......on Oct. 11. Come to find out they deposited it...a few days later....and by that time the check has expired. TOTALLY their fault as we explained to them when the check did expire and they said they would get it in in time.....We called Nations Bank....who now say we have to re-apply and that our interest rate may go up. It was 7.3% on the check we had. Now, when I was writing that check at the dealer I asked the guy if he had a better rate and he said no....now all of a sudden today he claims he can get me 6.9%. So.....we are going to fill out one of his apps.he is faxing to us. The only kicker is that they did not pay off my loan on the trade I gave them......I am not happy to say the least....got a great deal on the truck but this crap is going to drive me crazy!!!!!

    Enjoy the "free" truck...
  • nut4scubanut4scuba Member Posts: 9
I have thoroughly enjoyed this edmunds site to learn about the Ford trucks, etc. My dealer called me yesterday and told me that my truck will be here this week, F350, lariat 4x4,srw.
I have never once so much as called or bothered the dealer or the vopc to follow the progress of the truck ordered only 6 weeks ago. I am as excited as anyone about receiving the new truck, but I have never seen so many people whine about when their truck is or isn't arriving... I wish this site would get back to being of a more technical nature, after all we are grown adults... right? :)
  • BrutusBrutus Member Posts: 1,113
If you right-click your mouse on the scroll bar on the side, you can speed through the posts you don't care to read. Although I took delivery of my truck over a year ago, I can sympathize with those people who are waiting for their trucks. A new vehicle is often the biggest investment people make next to their house.

I wonder how long it would take for the dealer to repo your truck if you didn't get him a new check? Just kidding, of course. Once again, it sounds like a dealer error saved someone some bucks. A difference of 1/2% on a five year loan will save you about $5-$10 per month.....about a 12-pak. I got lucky with my interest rate.

My loan is at 7.9%. Now before you say that the rate isn't so great, I guess should explain that it's a RV loan. I wrapped my camper and truck up in the same loan.

They predicted clear skies today. Ha! It's snowing something awesome. We've already got several inches on the ground this morning. Big fluffy white flakes....
  • lewaclewac Member Posts: 151
Bess... will examine different diameters when the 235's "expire". we'd like a little wider tire but not a larger diameter as the fiver is just barely going to fit as it is. the speedo is probably controlled by the ECU & it therefore ought to be easy for Ford to make an update to it via changing out the CPU (Central Processor Unit) of same... in essence, a simple "chip" change.

Ashewitt... the wealth of info on the board... thanks for that url, we'll save it for future reference.

Paull1... "bucked" means all parts are on the line for build. your truck ought to be born today or tomorrow & your next update (after 5pm on the 3rd) ought to be "released".

Crazyelvis... what the hell? you've definitely had a rather "aggravating" experience! and now more of the same. you just "fell-through-the-cracks" over there I suppose. but what are you gonna do? how many times in life have you had no choice but to depend upon others even though you're inwardly thinking that this may be a bad idea? you'd "think" that when you told them to cash the thing promptly that you REALLY mean't it). they just didn't make any exceptions out of their normal routine (and they SHOULD have because you "warned" them about the date). unreal. well, you're driving around "free" today, but the higher rate will more than make up for it (& they ought to pay your trade-in off NOW!) it's their screwup, not yours. my significant has a "theory" that I do not wholly agree with. it's this: "whatever you wish to happen, will happen." I don't agree with it because I really don't believe you "wish" for these kinds of things to happen. I slipped & fell the other day & I wasn't even thinking about it to happen & I certainly did not "wish" for it to happen. but it happened, anyway. you take what steps you can without getting all paranoid about it... but "things" do happen regardless.... to everyone. but we can only sympathize when they do & so please keep us abreast.

Any technical questions are answered here...what a boring site it would be if all posts were technical in nature!! Even though I don't "know" the other people in here, we all share the fact that we ordered Ford Super Duty trucks. I am sure there is a wide cross section of people in this forum.......and since I became active in Aug. 99, there has been great conversation going on...from insurance to tires to trannys to accessories to clearance lights to mirrors and so on and so on. Plus there have been great off topic conversations about diff. dealers and how to track your vehicle. If I didn't know about the tracking part I would have never know that my 00 F250 SD CC V10 Lariat 3.73ls Harvest Gold truck...was sitting at the yard described as a 00 F350 PSD CC XLT. That is why my truck was at the yard so long. It took a personal call and trip to the yard for ME to get the truck on a hauler and to the dealer. I'm glad that you don't "whine"....but in fairness I have never heard anyone else "whine" either.....In the unforgetable words of Rodney King....."Can't we all just get along??!!!"
lewac....Mike at Gator Ford (the dude you sit down to pay and do extra waranties with) did not call me back today or fax me his credit app for the 6.9% loan. If my trade in was payed off I would be quite happy. He could take all the time he wanted......but I would like my trade payed off....since the payment was due on the 19th of Oct. And it is acruing (sp?) intrest at $2.30 a day.....which I am NOT going to pay!!!!! Oh well...if something can go wrong it will!!! Still very happy with the truck.....last fill up....60% HWY 41% City......13.3MPG......just seeing if you are all paying attention!
  • lewaclewac Member Posts: 151
yeah, we met Mike when we placed the order with Ken. we were more interested in the extended warranty (kind of pricey we thought) & that's the reason Ken introduced us. so he's the "closer", huh? seems like good ole' mikey doesn't have the ball rolling down the hill quite as straight as Ken (and he may have dropped that "ball" to handle your check)... will watch that when we p/u ours. got to replace our fax software (the thing we're using is not able to receive!)... can't complain, though as the stuff was free. we'll need to obtain a copy of the beast's closing statement b4 the fact. don't know why a lot of businesses just don't use email (they probably don't have a scanner). well, maybe Mike has just had a couple of really bad days. is that mileage about what you expected? can you burn regular or is the v10 a high test only engine? the way fuel is going around here that could make quite a diff in driveability cost over the long haul.
  • lewaclewac Member Posts: 151
kindof agree with crazyelvis as it helps to vent frustration somewhere. and where else but with a group that shares a common element? remember that the spouses are probably pretty "fed up" with the constant "man talk" of where, when, how, etc., in regards to our beasts. many issues that come across this board do not interest many of us one iota. this doesn't mean we need a separate thread for each of these interests. quite frankly, ford-diesel.com appears to have that exact problem: too many threads being spawned off a common subject. personally, we like it this way better. my .02's worth is all.

Question for you lucky folks that have ordered and picked up your truck.
What kind of "extra" hidden cost have you guys been hit with when you have gone to pick up your "BEAST"? I've heard of advertising, some type of processing fees. Is this a legitimate cost to the consumer or a way to squeeze money out of us? I'm trying to figure out what is hype and what is honest.

    Thanx,

    David
  • BrutusBrutus Member Posts: 1,113
There is a Ford ad fee that is passed on from the factory. Last year, I think I paid somewhere between $40 and $70, but I don't have the exact figure. It may have gone up, so you might get some feedback from some other people who have bought this year. The part of the ad fee that is passed on by Ford is legit. Anything else is dealer added and is up to you to decide whether it is legit. My dealer did not pass on anything other than the Ford ad fee.

The fee for gas to provide you with a full tank is legit.

Taxes, tags and title are legit.

I paid a $40 documentation fee. The only reason I paid it was because I bought my truck in another state. The $40 was related to the dealer having to prepare special paperwork so I wouldn't get hit with his local sales tax (I paid my local sales tax via my hometown DMV). Any documentation fees are added on by the dealer, not Ford. Some are legit. Some are not. I felt the $40 was legit for my transaction. If it was $100, I might have had a different opinion. If you buy it locally, there shouldn't be any doc fees.

I've also seen drop-ship fees. That's when you buy the truck out-of-state and have it delivered to a dealer near you. The receiving dealer charges a prep fee. Your selling dealer often negotatiates this (or it's a standard fee. I'm not sure which) and pays the receiving dealer and then charges you. Usually, they factor in something for their time. You have to decide if it's excessive. This fee obviously doesn't apply if you buy it locally.

Quick summary.....if you buy locally, Ford advertising and gas are the only charges that are not added on by the dealer (plus tax, title and tags). Everything else is negotiable.

viperle- Isn't it a little late to be asking questions about the reliability of the engine, AFTER you've already purchased the truck? Seems to me that before writing the check is the time to be asking questions like that.

hudson5- Advertising and fuel are the only two legitimate "extra" costs that Ford dealers will charge you. Both are printed on the factory invoice. Advertising (FDAF or Ford Dealers Advertising Fund) is based on regional associations so it will vary in different parts of the country. But in the long run, who cares what a dealer calls the charges above the invoice price? The deal I made for my truck was for $200 above the factory invoice price; for all I cared that $200 could have been labeled "profit", or "document prep charge", or "salary for the guy out back that washes vehicles after they're serviced". My point is, make your deal for a set amount above factory invoice, ask to be shown the FACTORY INVOICE, and don't pay a cent more than what you've bargained for, no matter what the dealer says any "extra" charge is for when you go to pick up your truck.

    Nut4scuba,
I agree with crazyelvis and lewac. In fact your post had less SuperDuty content than most. Quit clogging up our forum with your whining.. :) Just kidding of course.. Once we all get our trucks, we can do like crazyelvis and post our gas mileage at the end of each post. That should satisfy any technical content requirement. :)

    laura31,
I'm not an expert with putting larger tires on trucks, but I think as long as you don't go crazy with the tiresize, (stay 33" or under), I think the 3.73 ratio will work for you when the truck is empty. Who knows, you might even squeak a few more hiway mpg out of it with the slightly larger tires..

No high price beans need to be used to produce good GAS....milage out of the V10...MONSTER!!! The manual and my best friend (mechanic) said to use the 87 octane fuel. The manual even goes on to say that if you have a knock or problem that a higher octane can "add" to that problem. Stinks that last year I was paying 85 cents for a gallon of gas and this year I am paying $1.19......OPEC *astards!!!!
Tell me there is less oil.....those *astards are just producing less...although this country has soooo much gas/crude/oil in reserve that an OPEC slowdown on production should not reflect a 34 cent a gallon increase in a year. New topic.... Glorbal Oil Manufacture and Distribution Theory...anyone interested????!!!! ha ha.....
And thanx lewac and bess....It would come as a suprise to my wife that someone would agree with me though!!! And I try to put at least on technical thing in every post so I stay on the topic......Today it is GAS.....tomorrow who knows?????!!!!!!!

I visited a city dealer today - told that with the v10 Lariat pkg SC 4X4 long box SRW I can expect a 6 month wait - I saw in an earlier post that someone got a short delivery wait for this configuration - I live in Wisconsin (Milwaukee area) and I could use a little help - will visit second dealer in city later in week.

Ordered my Lariat with the front carpet deleted for the black vinyl mat. The dealer says the carpet would make the cab a little quieter. (Anyone have any thoughts ?) I've looked for full mats to cover the whole front floor but have not been able to find any. Does anyone know of any available ? Thanks

JTC, When I was test driving trucks, I drove 2, XLT's with and without carpet. There is a noticable difference in road noise. This is one of my wife's main complaints with SUV's and trucks, (noise level) so I checked this out quite thoroughly. I order my CC f250sd v10 xlt with carpet and I am going to get those molded rubber liners that are sold in Performance Products catalog to catch the debris associated with using a truck..

Has anyone put dust shields over their disk brakes on a super duty truck and if so did you do the rears as well?

Mewman Thanks for the info. The liners you talk about do they go over the center hump also? I work construction, have two young children, and a dog the carpets would be trashed in no time if I couldn't cover it all. I found mats for the rear seat floor on the Supercab that go the whole width. Do you have a phone # for the Performance Products catalog? Thanks jtc

I've got 12.3K miles on my F250SD XLT CC SB 4X4 V10 3-73LS and have had absolutely no problem with brake dust accumulation. Have run approximately 5% of those miles with a variety of trailers between 2k and 11k lbs. and haven't seen any build up. If you're interested in shields, you are probably going to wash your truck regularly. Brake dust - no problem...

What gives you the right to come here and complain about people concerned about the amount of time they have to spend waiting for their trucks to be delivered?
Sounds like you are the one whineing. You are lucky to have gotten your truck in only eight weeks, some people have waited that long just to get a build date!
Maybe your truck wasent anything great for you so you didnt mind waiting.
I for one have ordered what I concider to be my dream truck I have wanted one like it for years.
And I am having a hard time waiting for it. I like to come here and hear about other people like me going through the waiting game, it makes the wait a little easyer. If that makes me a whiner so be it!
    WHINE! WHINE! WHINE!

What gives any of us the right to have input here is that we love the Ford superduty and we like discussing them.I think anyone falling into that category has the right to make a suggestion on this topic. As long as we stay repectfull of one anothers thoughts. I think nut4scuba input was respectfull. This topic belongs to all of us.

My cash outlay for my SD was $2,807 under dealer inv. including a 129 processing fee. This was bought under the Ford Z plan and I used $1,830 rebate from Ford Citibank card.

I purchased the v-10 but was wondering how the PSD buyers justified the extra $3,400 cost over the v-10. If you use an average of 12 mpg for the v-10 and an average of 16 mpg for the PSD and a cost of $1.16 per gal. I came up with the following.

If you drive 1,000 per month the fuel savings would be 24.16 per month. The monthly payment would be an extra 82.21 on 3,400 @7.5% for 48 mos.
The total extra cost would be 3,946 including interest. You would also have extra cost on insurance and on personal property taxes.

If you drive 12,000 a year it would take you 13.5 years to recoup the 3,946.

If you invested the 3400 in a mutual fund that returned 15%, you would have 5,946 after 4 yrs, over 22,000 in 13.5 yrs. I realize that if you sold in 4 yrs you would recoup from 40-45% of your investment-1,360 to 1530.

I have not towed with mine yet but according to carterw @ #349 the v-10 does quite well. So why not put that extra money on retirement or another toy such as an atv, pwc, or motorcycle.
