WoodlandGreen. Sweet.........
Adubahbi: Thanks 4 the scoop, let me know how it turns out!
mainecowgirl: well, we're waiting...
sherwoodfor-So am I!!
It gets better. I have a Lariat dually. Last summer, I lost a rear hubcap on a rough road. I heard they cost about $50. After having my tires rotated a few weeks ago, I lost a front one. Believe it or not, the dealership replaced both under warranty! I bought my 92 F-250 from them, but was out of state when I bought the current truck. This dealership has always given me good service. For those of you who weren't around a year or so ago, my V-10 threw a rocker arm around 9,300 miles and this dealership replaced the engine without me even pressuring them for replacement vs repair. Not bad considering I bought it elsewhere. Needless to say, it is highly likely my next truck will be purchased from this dealership.
I'm having Firestone Ride-Rite airbags installed next week and hope to put the camper on 4-29. If I can get my hands on a digital camera, I will try to post some pictures if anyone is interested.
I think I'm going to go ahead with the line-x too. I had it on my Ranger and I know it's the toughest of the spray-ins. The ski's on a snowmobile have carbide runners on the bottom and I've seen Rhino give way to them very quickly. Doesn't even mar the Line-x!
Other than that, no aftermarket crap is going on this truck! I love her just the way she are!
She has a doctor's appt tomorrow - Pulls to the right when you brake hard. Other than that, all is well.
Happy Easter!
Have fun..
I'm wondering where Ralph Williams (NW Chrysler/Plymouth) will pop up. (same tactics as Cal)
Bigblue- I was just wondering about your Line-X experience the other day, and how it turned out. Thanks so much for the post. Now you've got me thinking again. Did you have a custom color done or just black? I'm interested in just black. Do you know if they have a sample piece of the spray-in material that they give out? The Rhino guy here had a little packet with a sample of the liner and the brochure. You may have done this once before, but can you give me the Plymouth Line-X guy's phone number? Thanks. Glad to hear you love your truck, too!
By the way, I found out that they are actually replacing the rear brake rotors under warranty related to that service bulletin. I can't believe I'm getting new rear rotors at 30k under warranty. With the 4,000 pound cabover camper, I expected to go through brakes quicker, so this is a real bonus.
So far, after a year and a half and 30,000 miles, I've only had to pay for routine service per the owner's manual. As far as my truck is concerned, Ford has stood behind their warranty on the couple of issues that were not routine service and they have done it without any coersion on my part. No complaints at all to this point, although it would be nice if it go 50 mpg.....
A friend of mine has the other attatchment system and if he takes it off in the winter time, he has to let it sit in a heated garage for a few hours in order to re-cover the bed. I think that the X-tang has a 3-year warranty also. I went to a truck topper sales place and got mine. Think I paid under $300.00 installed.
Had a Super-Duty day today. Swapped out the factory oil for some nice, clean Shell Rotella-T. Man it's easy to change the oil on this baby.
I also installed an electric brake controller for the camper and horse trailer we will be pulling around this summer. I had to spend a few minutes studying the documentation that Ford put in the glove box (with the harness, relays and fuses). Once I got Ford's terminology down, and matched it up with the terminology for the brake controller (so I knew which wire to solder together), the installation was a snap.
Maybe keeping the plastic ones there isn't such a bad idea?
psmith: you down in Anchorage or up here around Fairbanks?
For what it's worth, I got treated like a king at Billingsley Ford in Lawton OK...talk to Carl.
Got about 6700 miles on my rig...'00 SD SC XLT V-10, 4X4, deep wedge over silver. 4000 of it ALCAN.
On a side note, understand you live in the Raleigh area and work for Big Blue in RTP. I graduated from NCSU with a BSME and know the area pretty well. I simply love the area and hated to leave after graduating. But, I preferred a good income over starving and had to move to NE Florida. Haven't been able to get back, aside from occasional visits. Maybe some day.
As far as gas mileage. I dropped from 13 to 14 down to 10 to 11 with the larger tires. Not bad for a beast like that. Sure gets a lot of looks and respect way up in the clouds!!!
On the lift. If you go with the 6" inch I would recommend rears springs and not blocks. This allows you to retain all of your towing capabilities and prevents the possibility of the blocks kicking out due to axle wrap under heavy loads.
I purchased all of my parts from 4-WHEEL PARTS WHOLESALERS.
I'll post a photo as soon as I get back to my computer at home in a week or so.
On Feb. 11, 00' I ordered a silver 2000 F250 XLT SD Crew Cab SB, 5.4L, AT, 4x2, Tow Pkg, Power Tow Mirrors, Sliding Rear Window, CD, Power seat, and Dark Denim Blue interior. My build date was April 10, 00' with an ETA at the dealer of May 1. My dealer phoned yesterday to say that the truck was off the rail car 60 miles away and could be delivered any time. I'm trying not to get too excited until I'm told it's at the dealership, but it's hard.
We will use the truck mostly for family recreation and towing our 2000 lb. Coleman trailer camping. This truck will replace a 87' F150 Regular Cab LB w/5.0L V8. It has been a good truck but we wanted the crew cab.
I too would be interested in a good delivery checklist to guard against missing something amidst all the excitement of the trucks arrival.
Thanks
Summer home in Wyoming? Must be nice!
All of your 'likes' are mine as well.. Aint it cool!.
About the little things you mentioned:
Rattles: Be sure you close the SC rear doors well. At first I almost had to slam them to close tight, otherwise either the top or bottom latch may not engauge. Resulting in a pretty good rattle. This has gotten better over time, and it doesn't feel like I have to slam them now to close..
Only other rattle I have is the center console (40/20/40), if theres stuff inside, and if I don't rest my arm on it.. Normally I have an elbow on it anyway.
Stiff shifting: Yep, several things happen over time. The tranny does loosen up some making shifting easier and you get better at shifting, (learning the best rpm range etc).
Also, you've probably heard it mentioned before that its completly ok to start out in 2nd gear, avoiding the 1st granny gear.
Mirror: I don't think theres a factory convex replacement mirror. I'm using a rectangular spot mirror on the passenger side and it works great..
Welcome to the 'haves' club!..
Handgunhunter--I have heard of Ameraguard liners. I think it is a case of what has been posted here earlier--the quality of the liner is dependent on the attention and skill of the applicator. I looked at the highly regarded Rhino liner today, and its appearance in this case left much to be desired. Have also seen Ameraguard applied by a perfectionist and it looked great. I have an appointment this week to have him do his magic on my truck. The quality of the material appears to be on par with Line-X, Rhino, and others. As has been posted many times--see work samples before you let them touch your truck, cuz' there's no going back once it's done.
V10 + 5sp + 3.73LS is NOT available, never was.
V10 + auto + 3.73LS I think is availble everywhere. But I've heard a rumor that it may now only be available in California..
If you think you have to have the V10, then get the 4.30 and put bigger tires on it. Or get the 3.73 open diff and spend the $$ to put an aftermarket locker in the rear, but I hear that expensive.
Bess, still kinda clunking. Getting pretty good at the shifting, but every now and then clunk!.. Always happens between 2nd and 3rd. 1st to 2nd also, but never use it. Had the rail dust taken care of. Did a good job with the TSB. Still had to polish out the hood though. Has not come back, so I guess they did alright. The body guy told me that every truck on the train that my baby was on for sure had the same problem. He said that most people do not notice, or care. Go figure! Starting to feel like an old timer on here. A lot of new faces.
I'm resigned to getting the 4.3LS unless someone knows where a 3.73LS may reside on a dealers lot.
all above is with the v10
Just can bring myself to spend the extra cash and deal with the noise of the diesel
auto,Woodland Green.
I'm getting more excited by the moment. Can't wait!
Yeah, a summer home in Wyoming! It's great. I go there 3 to 5 times per year. Have developed some real close friendships with the locals. Great folks!
Thanks again for the checklist!!
Also, just received a blanket from Ford thanking me for my business. Received the gym bag earlier from them as an apology for the long delivery (6 months). Hope they keep the mail coming!
Anyone with the Trailer Tow Pkg know what kind of amps the electric brake receptable can dish out?? I'm hoping to plug in my Powerwinch cable for my boat trailer there....thanks
We also have an Excursion initially ordered with the tow mirrors. Wife did not like them because she couldn't see out the right sided mirror because it was flat and she is use to a convexed mirror from the Suburban. So I order her the non-tow mirrors and the right side is convexed. So if you are looking for a factor convexed mirror, order one for the Excursion. The Excursion mirror also has a heater but I don't think there is a plug for it in the SD. Also the plug for the mirror goes way down deep into the door panel. In my case, rather than fooling around with getting the door panel off, I just cut the wire up close to the mirror and spliced in a new plug. One other thing, the wire colors on the tow mirrors didn't match the wire colors on the non-tow mirror so when I initially put the wires together, the mirrors were going in some diagonal direction. Eventually got that straighten out. My advantage is that I put the same new plug in for the tow mirrors so I can just unbolt my non-tow mirror and put the tow mirrors on (either the Excursion or the SD). Anyways, I plan to change the right sided mirror on the SD to the Excursion convexed mirror. The cost is $125 list each and I got they for $106.25 + S&H from Schwartz Ford. The part No. is FMC YC3Z17683AAA or FMC YC3Z17682AAA (one is the left and the other is the right).
