Do you have a 2005 LR3 or 2006? If you have 2005 and the PTI was dealer installed you can't dock a phone because there is no hardwire for the system.
All docked phones are nokia since nokia makes the cradle. Tell your dealer to stop being lazy and print out the updated phone list. It is right on Infotrail in the buletins section.
manoftaste, I think the Rear View Camera is even a recent addition to Range Rover. New for 2006 if I remember corectly, even though the 2005 already had the new infotainment electronics. Overseas had the odd VentureCam instead. :surprise: It's pretty common for them to start adding features at the top; it may trickle down if the market demands it.
Anyway, vehicle product management is complicated. Hard decisions need to be made for each region the vehicle will be offered.
Sorry Grommett.. I didn't catch that. I was disappointed when I broke the mudguard on my Mercedes.. I was not able to go off road in fear of breaking the otheres. The rear mudguards are attached to the rear bumper cover and I didn't want to loose the cover!

Does the Rosen/Land Rover Video unit have 3 lights like the original light assembly? Are they bright and directonal like the original assmebly or just non-directional? I have three girls in the back that like to read along with watching video. Thanks
There are two lights, one on each side of the "all-in-one" DVD housing. These are used to replace the "dome light." I wouldn't call them exceptionally directional.
i see your point grommet. its true that it is a recent addition to range rover, and hopefully it will eventually trickle down to LR3, atleast as an option. But the fact remains that LR has to maintain the distance in terms of luxury between its models and we suffer from that a little. Would have loved to have the ability to watch DVDs on the NAV screen (while the vehicle is stopped ofcourse) just like the GX. The only reason i didn't go for the LR/rosen DVD is because i just didn't like its design. i mean, it does not, in any way, relate to the interior/exterior design of the vechicle. atleast it seems that way by just looking at the picture on LR site. its just me, i am sure people have no problem with its design, etc.
and british rover, you having known about the power tilt/telescopic steering problems with the range rover, i would agree that its one less thing to break and worry about but it would have been nice to have the steering column adjustment as part of the side view mirrors/seat memory system. anyways, by referencing the power tilt/telescopic adjustment i was just trying make a point that some how LR has to keep the 25 grand difference between the two models justified to its customers.
By the way, if you really want to keep the center stock with the existing lights... there is another solution. You can get dual headliner mounted screens, with the DVD player mounted elsewhere... either the glovebox, or where the rear cup holders are. Any custom installer can do this. For example:
manoftaste: "The only reason i didn't go for the LR/rosen DVD is because i just didn't like its design. i mean, it does not, in any way, relate to the interior/exterior design of the vechicle. at least it seems that way by just looking at the picture on LR site. its just me, i am sure people have no problem with its design, etc."
It's not awful, but it doesn't completely match for obvious reasons. It's basically a stock Rosen "all-in-one" DVD unit... and has no real integration beyond the AUX audio input. They sell the same unit for the Range Rover Sport, for people that didn't order the factory RSE.
I do wish the excellent Range Rover/Range Rover Sport factory RSE with 6-disc DVD changer was available for LR3. (Of course, to match... they'd need to redesign the head restraints to hold screens.) Oh, well.
I am also going to tell the dealer tomorrow to install the mud flaps before i take my delivery. I am not really concerned about breaking the mud flaps, rather, i am more concerned about breaking any thing else, a trim piece, etc., or somthing the mud flaps are attached to.
Also, this may sound a little retarded, but seriously, do you guys think that adding the mud flaps will add to the wind noise, etc.? One of the biggest selling points for me about the truck was how quiet it is inside the cabin when you are at freeway speeds.
Manoftaste... the mud flaps are too close to the wheel to worry about wind noise.
Also, the LR3 that I saw that was similar to mine also had the step. Do any of you have the step?
This is just my opinion, but steps on SUV's seem to be awkward. I always had a problem getting my pants leg dirty because I always tried to by-pass' the step. I actually find it harder to use the step, more strain on my knees.
What do you guys think?

I'm 6'4" and could care less for the side steps; I have no issue getting in. I have a friend that has them and they are "OK." I'm not sure I'd want them if I was off-roading. As a side benefit, it does offer another level of parking lot ding protection, though.
i dont like adding anything unnecessary to the clean industrial design look of the vehicle as is. Yesterday, I saw an SE with the side moldings mounted dead center on the doors (clearly, off spec) completely destroying the original clean big slab door panel look. Aesthetically speaking there is a good reason why our dear Mr. Upex discontinued the belt line crease on the doors.
The only reason I am adding mud flaps is because I would like to keep the truck clean during snow/rain, etc. and protect it from other road debris. Plus I think the mud flaps are designed well to go with the vehicle's DNA and they add something to the look of the truck without overbearing, specially from behind.
In general, I like to have mud flaps added to my vehicles (only if they are specifically designed/integrated to my model), otherwise vehicles feel like they are missing something, but LR3 is the only vehicle I know that looks great to me even without adding its integrated mud flaps. They have designed the truck cleverly.
going thru paper work, i just noticed my VIN starts with SALAG. I know there was some discussion about recalls and stuff a while back, can't think of the top of my head now.
They can't/won't sell you a vehicle with a pending recall - it would already be fixed if you are taking delivery. (Some '06 LR3/RRS/RR had a parking pawl plate recall; simple replacement.)
Regarding car covers, no... but you can get a "custom" fitted one from numerous vendors, including Covercraft and it'll be better/cheaper.
was there a known VIN range for the '06s? just curious and want to know how long would it take them to fix it. My truck arrives either tomorrow or thursday. I hope parking pawl was the only recall if any cuz i think the fuel tank and compressor for suspension were in '05 models, or am I wrong...
I don't have the VIN range handy -- it was early in '06... (I know it was posted somewhere, maybe not here.) I doubt you'd be impacted -- they would have told you... especially if you've already "purchased" the vehicle. I don't think you can buy a vehicle in quarantine.
The previous recall was for the 2005 fuel tank, which I had done last month. (Never had a problem with it, personally.) There was/is no compressor recall for either 2005 or 2006.
During my test drives at the dealership, the dealer did the traditional LR climbing and decent course using there demo area and I was blown away by how much the truck can be tilted sideways.
I thought it would be cool to have some sort of inclinometer as part of the 4X4 info screen on the nav to show the current tilt angle of the vehicle (with some marking indicating the maximum safe tilt or truck limits, like suspension flex limits). It would be really helpful during offroading and you would know when to stop and stuff.
Instead of mudflaps I am considering 3M Scotchgard Paint Protection Film for the quarter panels and door sills and door edges. Also thinking about entire Invisigard package for the front of the car. This web site gives a great review of the product. Also my company uses it on our company vehicles. http://www.automotivearticles.com/Clear_Bra_3M.shtml
pbrover, the mud flaps keep the non-painted (plastic) parts clean/protected... much more than the painted parts. I don't think you want to 3M film those.
I have the 3M film on our dark Audi, which has pretty unforgiving paint on the front bumper. I don't on the LR3, since the whole point of the LR3 is to beat it up. After a year, it only has a few battle wounds... more on the plastic bits.
My dealer told me that the waterproof seatcovers only come in "Grey". Please tell me that my dealer is wrong, because I have the Alpaca interior. If my dealer is right, does Land Rover have any plans to make the waterproof seat covers in the Alpaca color?
My cousin who is Chevy car dealer called me and suggested I go with the same "condom package" on my new LR3 that he uses on his demo cars. Knowing my families eating habits (spilled milk, melted gummy bears..etc) I thought this would be a great idea. I went to Home Depot and found the self adhesive clear film that contractors use to put over carpet. I put on the carpeted tail gate section and it worked great (went on tight and smooth). Plan to put on other areas that the Land Rover Floor mats don't cover. I know this seems like overkill but if I have to remove another melted gummy bear or removed spilled milk I will go nuts..smiling
Sorry, they are all "black" (or very dark grey)... and there are no plans for beige (or Tundra). Personally, I wouldn't want beige covers even if my interior was beige... they would not be easy to keep looking good. I don't think the contrast would look too bad. (Too bad we don't get black carpets with beige seats, like some other markets.)
You may need to wait for a third party to step-up, but that's not very likely anytime soon... still not enough "volume."
this sounds great, i am definitely considering this for the door sills/thresholds. i was gonna go for the tread plates first, but this seems a better solution.
I'm afraid I regard those as a gimmick, or perhaps as a conversation piece, to be more polite.
Unlike flying an aircraft at night in fog, you can't seriously off-road on instruments. When approaching the limits you need to be looking out the windows and listening to seat of your pants. When approaching the tipover point you only need a lower wheel to go into a shallow depression and over you go.
By all means use it to terrify your passengers as it approaches the magic number, but use your senses to tell you how to drive.
Mark, I think it's already time for you to sell the LR3 and purchase a sweet new Lexus 400h. That way you won't be able to scratch it off-road... because you can't go off-road. You'll also enjoy that excellent world-class Lexus service between your many adventures to the local shopping malls. Remember to occupy two parking places... don't get a ding!
I would appreciate any help on what to pay monthly for a new 2006 LR3. I would be rolling taxes and all upfront $$ into the cost. Have had a quote from a dealer in the Chicago suburbs for $713 MONTHLY payment for 30 months. Is this a good price?
ha. i hope there aren't any environmentalists here on this forum, i already have gotten enough hard time from a few co-workers of mine for getting a guzzler.
to marks point, i feel the same way a little. when i did offroading with my former SUV, i just used to be a little carefull and stuff and i intend to do the same.
i see your point mac24, but i was talking more about the side slope limits. sometimes its hard to tell the side slopes by just looking at em. and i am talking situations where you are by yourself off the beaten path or in the back woods and stuff. it would be cool to have that feature, since LR3 probably already has sensors, etc. to estimate that for DSC and other goodies. I have seen such instrument once in a '93/'94 Pajero/Montero with the vechicle's side slop limit indicator...thought it was cool.
i just like to have as much information available at hand as possible. Here is another one. On the newer builds with TPMS, how about showing each tire's pressure level individually right next to each wheel's icon on the 4x4 info screen. I always wondered if in case a tire starts to loose pressure at freeway speeds, if the EAS will make up for the slight vertical drop and won't let you feel/know that you have lost air in one tire till the very end. This happenned to me a few years ago on a trip to New Hampshire. I hit some debris on the highway at around 70 mph late at night. I remember that I kept driving for at least another hour or so not knowing that i was slowly loosing air in the right rear tire till the very end when all in a sudden my truck's tail start to swirve left and right violently. luckily i was able to stop immediately to find out that the tire had been shreded into pieces. obviously, the tire lost air slowly at first and then lost the remaing of it very quickly. now during that hour of driving (after hitting the road debris) i do remember noticing just a very very subtle change in the ride which i couldn't help ignoring (and that was with the solid rear axle). with all the goodies and self-leveling adjusters on LR3, i wonder if i would even notice the difference in ride if something similar were to happen again. Just like a scene straight out of a hollywood flick, it would be cool to have the loosing air tire's icon, on the 4x4 info screen, turn red and flashing with a chime or beep or something indicating loss in tire pressure and ofcourse showing the current air pressure.
Sorry, the forthcoming TPMS won't be much more than a "tire pressure too low" or "tire pressure too high" warning in the instrument cluster. No fancy graphics, animation or music. TPMS will be "by law", I think, starting 2007 for vehicles in the USA... all for the sake of safety. Good, I say. Too bad it didn't get added earlier. (No production Land Rovers have it currently.) I plan to see if it's at all possible to retrofit, even if it won't be supported. (I'm sure it'll be painful and costly, as everything "unsupported.")
The range Rover has it even for the spare tire with wireless sensors. Just about every range rover that we get right off the trucks says Spare tire low cause they never put the right amount of air in the spare tire from the factory.
Last week I was told these lights were reflectors by somebody on this board. Please see the link and you will see these lights are turned on. Help..how do I turn them on?
The Montero had the inclinometer briefly but it was removed because nut-jobs would purposely drive the vehicle to its limits to see how close they could go without rolling. Of course, many did roll over and the ensuing litigation prompted Mitsu to eliminate the inclinometers much to the disappointment of those litigious morons.
I am sure Land Rover does not want a repeat of that scenario!
pbrover, you're kidding right? Do you understand what a reflector does when you use a flash to take a picture? Try it sometime. You can start with a mirror at home.
Ok I might be nuts, but did you look at the pictures? Those are not the only lights lit up in the picture. Please look and you will understand why I am asking the question and jepordizing my creditability. I know the link does not work if you click on it, but you have to copy and paste the entire link that I posted into the address bar. Also, when I was following my wife for 500 miles at night driving behind her while she was in the LR3, the so called reflectors never reflected.
Yes, I looked at the pictures. They all look like flash reflection to me. You'll note that even in his pictures, the effect changes depending on the angle of the shot. It's directional. The reflective parts are not intended to blind driver's behind the LR3... so you wouldn't normally see them.
I know what I'm talking about, since I replaced a broken one all by myself. No wiring or bulb. Sorry. Now, if you want to make them light-up... go for it. But check your local laws. :shades:
Mac, thanks for posting that picture, boy I wish I knew how to do that.
Pbrover........ I knew that I had reflectors in the bumper but didn't know that I had them in the light assembly too. And, it's amazing how bright the reflectors show up in the picture from the flash of the camera. If I didn't know better, I would say they were light bulbs too!
The more I drive my new Land Rover, the more I like it and I didn't think that was possible!
MichaelWillems.... interesting update, thanks for letting us know how your LR3 has performed.
Two thing that I would like differently on the LR3, I'm not complaining, no car is perfect with every item.
1) I wish the outside mirrors were motorized to pull in.
2) The park sensors should have an indicator showing how close you are getting to an obstacle with illumination and then beep when you are 12 inches or so away (like my Mercedes parktronic). When you pull up to a stop light behind a car, if you get in "the zone" the beeping can drive you crazy. I know there is a switch, but the Mercedes system is more user friendly.
3) I agree with MichaelWillems, the clock could be in a better place but it's not that bad.
