may i make a most humble newbie request? from here on out, could we adopt some standard means to reference the guesses back to the post with the photo so that we know what the responses are being made to?

lately for me, i haven't been familiar with a number of vehicles, and i'm not sure what post people are replying to because the subject is typically Re: ?? [andys120]

when we've got multiple vehicles that haven't been ID'ed yet, and multiple guesses in the forum, it's getting pretty difficult to follow everything.

perhaps people could use this method:
re:xxxx - is it a lotus esprit turbo 1988?

where "xxxx" is the number of the post with the picture.

The Buick's and Olds got the wrap windshield in 54 then Chevy and Pontiac in 55. The 53 Cadillac Eldorado was the first with the wrap windshield. JM

You are right.

This is an AMI 8 (1969-1979) This 35HP strong Engine powers a 1350 Lbs body.
My model is a 1978 year.

The Ami 8 was a redesign of the Ami 6

yes, it handles terrific well on fields and bad roads, and would put most SUV to shame.

the inside space is astonishing, meaning the doors are pretty thin. 5 adults could be accomodated.

However experiencing a crash even at low speed would make this car look like it was built with paper.

the flat-2 cyl roar is a true experience. definitely not a boring car. bought it 500+ USD a few years ago.

In the USA there was no RX-5. That vehicle was called the Mazda "Cosmo" here.

ahh people, in the simple one pic, multiple guess scenario, that's true. i have no site navigation issues BTW. there have been some occasions were multiple pics were simultaneously posted, and numerous guesses were outstanding. with the subject the same, and with the same posters replying to multiple pics, it is confusing.

unless of course you know what the vehicles are, or your watching the guesses come in in almost real-time.

i guess i haven't made my point very effectively. oh well.

1953 Skylark (no wraparound) and it looks especially gorgeous.

That's it, and I agree it's especially good-looking in that color. The '54s had the wrap and small tailfins, kept the wires and minimal chrome IIRC.

Nice! Parked in front of the chateau I make out a Citroen CX (late 70'?), a Citroen CX Break (wagon) a Renault R5 and a Citroen 2CV. I can't ID the SUV-looking thing on the background with the outside spare tire showing.

Yep we have a couple of Citroen GS, sedan and break, a 2CV, a Citroen BX (behind the break), and the SUV parked by the house looks like some piggy Toyota model.

That's correct, I was hoping someone would mistake it for a Subaru BRAT.

It was known in the US market as the Lancia Beta
Spider (mid '70s) IIRC.

Yep, it's a 904 GTS. I don't know why it's missing the Porsche crest on the hood. The 904 was primarily a race car (Porsche's first w glass bodywork) but could be ordered with street equipment/tires.

No, it just looks like one-the Zagato/Beta Spider was a T-Top convertible in front but there was a vinyl fold down section behind the roll hoop.

If it didn't have the rear window removed (unzipped?), you could see the natural lines of the car... It is actually quite nice looking, in the flesh..

GS are MY 1978, the BX is MY 1983, the 2CV model is called "Charleston" and must be beg of 80s

The GS wagon was mine actually, but as I couldn't keep it up, I gave it to a GS Fan friend of mine

That is the first time I am being asked that!
yes, these are Chimneys. Thickness is about 10-15 inches.
As they are quite tall, this may be accentuating the feeling.

Strange, I can't see the picture any more. I didn't edit the 2 postings though and they showed up well for some time.

I've always thought the GS was a pretty smooth car, esp for the time. I remember reading an article on the birotor variants too, interesting.

When I was 12 or so (ca. 1989) I started noticing the local bookstore carried 'CAR', and I could often talk my way into my mother buying me a copy. I remember seeing the Citroen BX and CX in these magazines, and I liked these cars. So I wrote to Citroen (UK) and they sent me a big envelope full of brochures, I was very thrilled. I still have them somewhere.

the GS Hydropneumatic suspension was a delight of smoothness that is imho unmatched so far. The very light wheels (145X15) played a role in the ability to soak bumbs on bad roads.
The flat-4cyl was smooth, although thirsty. regretfully, it lacked torque and going 120 km/h meant nearly 5000 RPM on the last gear..

Yes, it's a 1950 Alfa 1900, Looking very '50s in that two-tone paint. The Alfa 1900 was the basis of the 1900TI, perhaps the first modern sports sedan.
