That's assuming you buy the built-in NAV system
If you keep the car only 5 years, then Onstar might start making sense: 5 X 300 = $1500, which is still cheaper than buying the built-in NAV, if all you want is turn by turn and don't care about maps or rear-view camera. If you keep it 10 years like I do, that's $3000, and that starts to hurt. Of course that's assuming Onstar prices stay the same. In the Acadia I believe you get 2 free DVD updates, otherwise they do rip you off.
You sure can, however the price-gouging is another reason you'd want to use bluetooth and your own cellphone: OnStar prices being at $14 for 30 minutes. *cough* rip-off! *cough*
You could always link your Verizon cellphone to the OnStar service, but then the Verizon coverage map would apply, and thus this wouldn't be any more reliable than a regular Verizon cellphone. Of course I would assume that linking another phone to your family plan would cost you the typical $10/month, which you could avoid by using your existing phone with bluetooth!!!
Are you sure about the back up camera and where did you get this info? I was told by GM that info on the 08 Acadia would be available on 4/30. I guess I'm searching to early in the morning its 303 am here. :shades: I had leaned toward the Buick but I'm beginning to lean back over to the Acadia.
I test drove a 2007 Acadia on Friday night. Salesman said there was no option for backup camera - just the sensors. I saw the camera myself on the Enclave on display at the Pittsburgh autoshow. Perform working the show confirmed Enclave will have backup camera.

Would make a few changes on interior if anyone at GM asked my opinion, but nothing to discourage me from recommending this car or purchasing another one.
Should be trickling into dealerships now -- so keep your eyes open. My dealer said he has 5 coming, but they are all already sold.
And you still have to dial your handheld, which requires you to look at your phone. Very few Bluetooth phones are (truly) voice activated and fewer have good voice recognition. Try dialing with OnStar, it is simple speech and works great.
what interior changes would you make?
just curious.
*I wished there was more woodtone on the panel which houses the radio unit. The dash was designed so beautifully, as was the armrest console, but the area the radio is located in is just plain Jane.
*The sunscreen for the rear sunroof is power, but the one over the driver is opened and closed by hand (and it is a bit tricky to open because you think you should pull back on it, but really you need to push straight up to lift it over what I think is a plastic lip -- I wonder if this will ever break).
*The floor mats seem VERY cheap. In part I am comparing to my Town & Country (which is what I traded in). My T&C was purchased 7 years ago at about the same price point. It had very nice, thick, stitched-finished edged floor mats. The ones in the Enclave -- I wonder how they are going to hold up.
*No good spot to store CDs. Maybe the thought is with the MP3 plug in, people will be carting around less CDs.
*If I plug in my cell phone, the plug blocks a cup holder. There is another plug in the armrest, but you have to move the armrest, then lift out a tray, putting the cell phone inconveniently out of reach.
ALLLLL that being said, I really do love the vehicle. It just surprises me that for what I would consider the high-end of the Lambda platform, that GM went seemed to go cheap on some of the details. The price point of the Enclave is about the same as the Acadia. I would have been willing to pay $1,000-$1,500 more for a few additional classy touches.
Do you know when we are going to be able to begin ordering the 08 Acadia? :surprise:
I still also have an interest in seeing the 2008 T&C. Since you traded a T&C in, I was wondering if you happened to have seen the 2008 T&C at a car show. I would appreciate your thoughts if not on this forum, the 2008 T&C forum.
Congrats on your new Enclave purchases. I hope some dealers in Pittsburgh get some in May. I really want to drive one!!
Not saying OnStar isn't good; you'll just pay for it dearly.
I don't mean to sound like the Bluetooth salesman. It is just something that seems like a really great idea. I know 3 people that have it, and they absoltely love it.
For some background in my thinking.... I do a fair amount of talking on my phone while driving. Right now, I used a bluetooth enabled earpiece. I need to take my hands off the steering wheel in order to press and hold a button on the earpiece in order to answer an incoming call. Then typically, I end up taking my hands off the steering wheel in order to turn off the radio for the call. Then after the call, turn the radio back on again.
Being able to simply press a button on the steering wheel to answer an incoming call, having the radio muted automaically, then un-muted again after the call - all without ever taking my hands of the wheel, just "feels" safer to me.
Someone had mentioned to me something about using Onstar as a phone, with Verizon as the carrier. I do have a Verizon account, but it is thru my business, and Family Sharing plan is not available. Also, I really don't want to have to have a seperate phone number for my car.
All this just adds up to me "wanting" bluetooth to connect to my regular phone in whatever vehicle I choose. I tried it while test driving a Mazda CX9, and it felt really good - everythign I expected. Sound was great, convenience was great.
Maybe I am making too big a deal out of it? But I just wanted to share my thoughts.
I have never been big on exclusivity but my dealer says I have the first Enclave in Minnesota. May be true, may not. I really don't care. I had one on order but the first vehicle off the truck was just like the one I ordered except it had rear buckets rather than the bench seat we ordered. We had debated back and forth which to order so we were quite happy taking the bucket seats and getting the vehicle two months sooner.
We just got it today so we are in the honeymoon stage, but I absolutely love it. It is quiet, the materials are nice, I love the wood steering wheel, etc. Right now my only minor, minor gripes are that the easy exit feature seems to take quite a while to slide the seat back (I am guessing the total travel time is about 5 seconds) and the tilting side mirrors tilt too far IMHO.
You need to get yourself a better bluetooth ear piece. I don't have to do any of that. It answers automatically. My sister has bluetooth in her Infiniti FX45 and I hate when she calls me on that thing. She doesn't like it either. :P I'm looking to move my carrier anyway. so Verizon just might be the way to go. Besides, I make it a habit of not talking on my cell while driving unless I am travelling on road trips. These people can't drive out here in Cali I have to pay attention
Maybe the key is the key. I don't think it starts sliding the seat back until the key is removed. That is usually my last step before opening the door and exiting the vehicle. I basically ended up sitting there waiting for the seat to move rearward. Maybe I need to remove the key earlier. While 5 seconds is not much time in the grand scheme, sitting there waiting for the seat to stop is, how shall I say this, a waste of my time.

Olympus gets 5 stars in all but 1 category and Canon 2 stars in all but one category. This is a car forum so I don't want to go into detail here, but these results are absolute horse manure. Here's an interesting link:

See all those white lenses? Only Canon makes a white lens.
I don't think think it changes the conclusion that you can't necessarily go entirely on reputation for build quality and reliability, but stuff like this certainly hurts JD Power's credibility in my eyes.
In the end, most of us will choose a car brand we like and are comfortable with. After all, if we were all logical, we wouldn't even be buying new cars. We would buy slightly-used ones with the biggest chunk of depreciation gone. I really like getting the new car, though, to get the colors/options as I want.
The JD Power results are hopefully at least a USEFUL piece of the puzzle, but certainly shouldn't sway a person completely in one direction.
Yes, I know, I really don't drive and use a phone; it's just something to have in case.
And what is with the extra $500 for the paint? You'd think they could have a set color scheme without having to jack the consumer more.
And when might these 2008's be available?
That said, IF the V8 does come with time, it's likely to be the new OHC V8 series that will effectively replace what is currently the Northstar line at Cadillac. Others have said that it might be the 5.3L OHV engine used in various models, but if anything, I would still bet on it being from the up and coming OHC V8.
Still, there's no hurry to do that, as adding cylinders almost always means a drop in mileage, and that's the last thing any automaker wants right now. But, it's still possible, along with a Denali line for the GMC, just not any time soon.

Enclave,Outlook,Acadia they are all fantastic.
I purchased a 07 Outlook XR two weeks ago and I LOVE it!!!
Test drove CX-9,MDX,waited for the Vera Cruz (knob come off during test drive...).
I test drove the Acadia almost two months ago and really liked it but was not crazy about the sheet metal but was still extremely impressed with it.
An Outlook pulled along side me at a stop light and decided to check it out...
Personally I think the Outlook looks better and is a better value costing about a grand less with the same bells and whistles then Acadia.
My Outlook XR is LOADED expect no AWD.
1575 miles including one 600 mile road trip later and I can tell you the lambda platform is near perfect. traded in a 04 Toyota Sienna and believe me there is no loss in seating space for my family.
There is some loss of cargo space when comparing to a minivan.
But when comparing to the other CUV's mentioned above there really is no comparision. The GM lambda is the CUV to have!
BTW,
I'm asked in disbelief a least twice a week by total strangers "this is a Saturn"?
Yeah baby it's a Saturn...
Did you pay full MSRP+ for the Outlook?

I'm totally loving this car, handles very nicely and better than some other SUVs I have driven before. I'm 20 years old and I love the look of this car, especially the side profile. What do you guys think?
I see other posts where some are suppositly beating down GMC dealers in Acadia deals somewhat.
The inventories here in north Florida will not allow much bargaining; all lambda's are moving extremely fast in this region.
Frankly I feel the price paid was a steal. My Saturn is the Gold mist color with tan leather polished rims and exhaust again every option except AWD in the sun it glows it is a beauty to behold!
Every bit as sharp as the Caddy Escalade (so I've been told).
When looking at the MDX with tech package, roof etc. it topped $48,000 with the same features as my XR (and the MDX is not as good looking in my opinion).
I could have purchased an XR with roof, upgraded sound system and leather for for $35,000 and change but was not crazy about the silver pearl color.
I feel I got a good value and I really like those Saturn folks they live up to the customer driven reputation they have. purchased mine at Saturn of Gainesville Fl. they called twice to make sure everything is fine and if I had any Outlook feature questions.(The Outlook has many useful features and technology I was not expecting or aware of)
They even sent my family a tin of gourmet chocolate chip cookies a week after my purchase... nice touch!
Outstanding customer service, I don't mind paying for that.
Enjoy your new Outlook!
I Really liked the Outlook - Size wise it is just about perfect - I thought the Mazda drove better, but overall, the Outlook seems like a better package.........and the best looking of the Lambda's!
You can have a well equipped XE for under $30,000 like the one the young lady above purchased, however if you want nav, great sound package, voice activated functions, towing package, enhanced appearance,Power lift gate(CX-9 ???) power everything etc.The Hyundai Vera Cruz doesn't even have the real goodies, CX-9 comparably equipped tops $41,000 with a 7 week wait and the Acura topped $48,000 with the same options believe me I shopped them all.
Relatively speaking $39,000 may seem expensive to some but if the options I have are what you desire the Outlook is a steal.
Congrats on your new car! It looks great!
