Cliff and Diane, what is your take on this Toyoguard package. I've been told by almost everyone that these "protectant" packages are worthless and pure profit for the dealer. I have seen it on the stickers of Sequoia's. I wouldn't be willing to pay more than $100 for this option, but do you think they would be willing to budge on it? What do you think of 38,500 on a 2 wd limited with side air bags, moon roof, carpets, and cd changer?
Thanks in advance.
David
So you're telling me that when somebody with a LTD with side airbag comes into your servive shop with a broken heater pad (Toyota cost approx $15) that they are going to remove the entire seat and give them a new seat (cost approx 2-3K$)?
Color me skeptical.
Thats about $100 too much. Everything I've read says that after-market sealers are worse then worthless since they tend to seal designed-in
drainage ports which leads to trapped moisture.
Don't know if Toyoguard is that bad.
I think I saw some "build your own site" from a dealer that only added $135 for the $600 MSRP. That dealer apparently had a sense of shame to not go along with the gouging. I'd imagine that $135 might be close to what the dealer pays the port.

You can count on someone else here to answer your question of adding it after the fact.
The Odyssey should have a good resale value for you, so don't be too shy in your asking price. Dealers are getting sticker+ in most of your area for new vans.
Sequoia board for a particular word or phrase.
The idea of wading through 1800 posts is obviously unappealing.
Minivans etc. I wanted the extra seating for
toting the kids, my children wanted reclining seats for comfort on trips and my husband "DID NOT
WANT A MINIVAN." Well, the Sequoia has it all. I
think the best feature is that the 2nd row seats recline and so do the extra seats in the back. It
is spacious, drives wonderfully and is a vehicle
we hope to keep for a very long time.
Also- Agree with your comments earlier about "Toyoguard" . I could think of another name for it. Frankly these useless dealer add ons may push me towards the Z71 Suburban.
In the meantime, if there is a message that you think you could refer to in the future, simply hit the "mark" button and a link to it will be created in your message centre. You can then add a comment next to the link to remind you what you marked the message for in the first place.
Hope this helps!

I got my Silver SEQ for $550 over invoice with no warts from Craig Fuhs at Watkins Toyota in Minneapolis. The MSRP was $39,610 and invoice was $34,904 for an SR5 4WD AC, AH, CC, CQ, DR, GY, RL, SR.
jeahsj, people do use email to exchange the detail of deals & dealers.
means loading 100+ pages. Still mighty painful, but thanks anyway since other people might not have knew about the find.
Drew, yeah I know the Edmunds search, but I already know that the words "wood dash" are in this forum. I need to know WHERE in the forum.
I hope the new search will do the VERY obvious and list me all the posts with "wood dash" in it for this forum. Of course I'd want the search to have a scope of a PARTICULAR forum or a defined wider SET of forums. If your new search doesn't have that basic feature I'd hope someone from your side gets on the phone with Google and make a partnership that allows them to sniff your forums.
Is there a way to configure my forum so that Edmunds
will send me all 1800+ posts at once?
After 1600 miles in over a week owning a new SEQ, I took the car to Jiffy Lupe for it's first oil change.
They'd never seen the Sequoia before this one. The tech suggested using Synthetic oil, to give the engine a longer life. Costs 8$ more per oil change. Once started on Synthetic oil, can't stop and switch back.
Questions: is it really as good as they make it sound to be, worth it?
Once started on synthetic, you can't go back without damaging the engine?
This is noticable on mine (SR5 4WD), as well as the one I tested driven 2 weeks ago. Is everyone experiencing the same thing?
Any recommendations for an after market upgrade, what can be done to get more decent sound? A power booster, better speakers, another radio unit? All of the above? And brands, models?
the front hood. I should have walked away. The hood was repainted and the price dropped. After a month it was a slight orange, on a fire engine red porsche. It haunted me for years.
WALK AWAY. You can get a made to order Seq for almost the same money. Don't let impatience allow you to settle for damaged goods.
Just my 2 cents. Actually, if someone wants a penny for my thoughts, why do I always give them 2 cents?
Jeahsj-Did you advertise your Odyssey? What did you get for it? Did you get alot of option on your Sequoia? Do you like the 4x4?
For everyone- My husband wants the 4x4 but we live in So. Cal. and I just don't think we will ever use it. Do you think it's worth the extra money? What kind of gas mileage is everyone getting? I drove a 2wheel drive this weekend and I thought it was a much more softer ride than the 4x4 what do you think?
Thanks for your input...
Besides, I don't worry if I purchased a car for a few dollars more or sold a car for a few dollars less than the next guy. However, there are people on this forum who like to boost their ego by bragging about the wonderful deal they got. I'd pat them on the back to make them feel better, but their hand is in the way!!
However, if you have the patience, try selling the Odyssey yourself. You will definitely get more. Take a look at eBay Motors.
As far as the 4x4, save your money and get the 2x4. I think the difference is $4,000. I was actually going to get a 2x4 from the south, but found a 4x4 in New Hampshire for $300 less. The reason is the dealer in the south would not discount much below MSRP.
I like the 4x4, but would have been fine with a 2x4.
The options I got on my SR5 were leather, alloy wheels, running boards, roof rack, keyless entry, privacy glass, tow hitch, mats, etc. Leather, for me, is the most important.
I live in the San Jose, CA area. Can anyone recommend a dealer that can beat this? I'm thinking about flying to the dealer and pick-up if the price is right (within reasonable distance.)
Thanks, D.W.
What is the gas mileage you have been averaging?
If dealers in your area are looking for MSRP - shop around, the deals are out there.
Davenancie: It's a few hours drive, but I think dealers in this area are willing to go at least a few thousand off MSRP.
I didn't get leather, my main criteria was GY, the side air bag. Now, that I've had the SR4 WD for 10 days, I would get leather if I have to do it again. Nothing wrong with the cloth of course, but with leather that's a nice touch of luxury to the truck.
waltrop: I'm averaging about 17.5 mpg with the truck always in 4WD. Still have that new car smell. Love it.
Do any of the dealers on the site know anything about how to get thunder gray flares and bumpers on a desert sand vehicle. I was told Toyota will not entertain requests for body flare changes, but some obviously come that way. The question is how can you be sure it will arrive that way.
Summer's coming and I want a Sequioa. Dianne or Cliff, any thoughts?
1. Desert Sand Mica comes with Warm Silver trim
2. Thunder Gray Metallic comes with Warm Silver trim (therefore should be the same!)
3. Silver Sky metallic comes with Silver Sky trim
4. Black comes with Thunder Gray trim.
5. Green comes with Thunder Gray trim.
Ltd. models don't come with contrasting trim.
I'd get a Toyota regional rep out to look and confirm the situation. If they screwed up the demo build, maybe they can screw up another one just for you too!
Good luck getting what you want!
i got a price for a limited black at $1,500 off list. i do not no if that is fair or not. i live in rural iowa and there is only one dealer close to me so i think compitition is low.
thanks.
This topic may have been exhaustively discussed in this forum already. But considering that there is no searching capability that I know of in this forum, I have to ask this question again. Thanks.
BEST OF LUCK!
P.S. Feel free to Email me if you would like some dealers to avoid.
Where I live the fee is 2.5% of invoice *with no cap*, so you are going to pay at least $700 for the TDA fee. Apparently the fee is a mandatory item and the dealers consider it to be part of the invoice price.

It was worse when it was new (and very cold outside), but it's improved a lot with time (the gaskets are being compressed) and it's finally getting warmer. All in all, no longer an issue.
Post 1888 mentioned the muffled sound of the stock stereo. My question is playing what source? I have the stock radio and have found that the FM sound sounds a bit muffled and a little boomy, but CD sound is bright and balanced. I wonder if anyone else noticed that?
If it's muffled, you probably need to turn up the treble (or add tweeters in the door like the 10 speaker system. I run mine at +3 for the treble and -1 for CD's or -2 or -3 for the bass.
Mine has developed a slight interior squeek and/ bor click that sounds like vinyl rubbing and moving slightly against glass or metal. It seems to be coming from multiple points where the dash joins the windshield, or below, but you can't reproduce (or stop) the sound by manipulating any dash components that I can reach.
It only occurs on bumpy roads that flex the body, but being pothole city up here, they're easy to find this time of year.
My question is has any other Sequoia or Tundra owner or dealer experienced something similar, and if so, what's the fix? Before I take it in, I would like to have any other experience on the subject that I can share with the dealer.
Other than that, it's a pleasure to drive.
Good luck
