awesome. thank u!!! I will post once I've paid and brought the car home!

So--the dealer says they need to get the car from another dealership (they don't have the color I want) and the car will have 200+ miles on it. Is that okay?

Another local dealer has the color I want but won't meet my price.

200 miles is nothing. You could ask them to flatbed it over, but that would be a somewhat expensive cost to the dealer. Just pick it up in the daylight so you can make sure they didn't drive though a hailstorm or something.

Here's a plug to encourage everyone who's skimmed this discussion and managed to get a bit of reassurance on their deal on their CR-V to engage in a little payback and write up a blurb about your dealer experience.

You're right, I lost a thousand. Hate it when I do that (especially when I do that at the dealer). Edited my post. :)

That's kind of surprising since the Bay Area doesn't have a reputation for aggressive Honda prices. Maybe you hit a dealer at month end who needed to pad their numbers or maybe supply is beginning to outstrip demand. Either way, you've just lowered the bar for everyone out there - nice work!

I think it was because it was month end. Also my salesman was really good. He understood that i wanted to buy and also understood what price i was willing to pay.

    Hi Stever,

I got my CRV EX-L FWD model in Houston, TX area yesterday for $28000 OTD, which included Pro pack (Splash guard, Wheel lock & Cargo tray), Nitrogen fill and windows tint. Also I was able to get free oil change & car wash as well in the end. I hope that I didn't do bad for my first car purchase. I would like to thank you all in this forum who helped me to come up on my target price and how to negotiate during my purchase.

Didn't you just get an EX? And a Camry too this year? Are you treating your whole family to new cars? (I'll take an EX-L FWD please. B) )

That was so last year 2015 (2 cars). I've only bought 1 - 2016 thus far. Of course since this car was for the wife it had to be the best. :)

Brought our CRV home today. 2016 EX AWD CRV. Northern California. Out the door: $27k. Quote before taxes and fees was $24600. One year free oil changes, maintenance, tire rotation, etc.

I negotiated over email and phone - and dealer agreed to meet my price over the phone. For the first time ever, had a smooth transaction at the dealer....they didn't try to sell me anything else. They asked me about extended warranty and when I said no, they just smiled and handed over the keys. How times have changed from when I bought my first Honda (Civic) as a student back in 2001!

Thanks a lot to the forum and admins for their guidance and patience - it paid off!

I bought the all weather floor mats and cargo tray as well - with the kids, those are a must. Any recommendations for other accessories - like splash guards, or anything else? Our dealer has a discounted online store, and agreed to match online price for the mats, but if you have any other recommendations for buying accessories, I'd appreciate it.

Finally brought home our White Diamond Pearl EX-L AWD today in Denver. Price before sales tax and trade in was $28,213 inclusive of the crazy doc and handling fees , tint and clear bra. Worked the last day of the month and ended up having to choose one dealer to sit down with as I had several comparable offers. Tough going here once you get into below invoice territory. Went with the 60 month 0.9 financing - almost free money.
Thanks to our forum guru's for sharing their knowledge. Couldn't have done it without you!

Always good to read about a dealer who "gets it" @rssaccrv. Congrats!

Congrats to you too @chuckster12! Cheap financing indeed.

We just purchased a new CRV Touring on March 31 for $31,236, $1000 below invoice, in Rochester MN. I had contacted 6 dealers around the Twin Cities area on the 30th, Four of the dealers were at or near the $1000 below invoice. The other 2 dealers must not have figured on me reading the Edmunds forum about how to get a good, fair price. Although the Rochester dealer was a further drive than some of the dealers in Minneapolis/St. Paul, we are very happy that we chose this dealer. I had purchased my last CRV from them in 2007. Many thanks to all the experts and amateurs who have offered your advice on this forum.

    Hi everyone,

I'm looking at buying a 2016 FWD EX-L this week. My altima's transmission just bit the dust so I don't think I can wait until month end. Any tips on what a good OTD price might be in north Alabama? It's been several years since I bought a car, and I was really young last time so my parents did the negotiating. I'm feeling very overwhelmed about everything. I just request a couple quotes from local dealers online, so I hope that was a good place to start.

A good target price is 500 to 1000 below your models invoice price. Your models invoice price with destination is $27,602

Get your best prices from several dealers then post back in this forum. Only folks who purchase in your state may be able to give the exact OTD prices.

Otd pricing consist of your states....................... taxes, dmv fee's, and dealers doc fee charge.

Anyone got 2016 CRV-LX AWD recently at NJ. what is OTD price? Thanks a lot
  • juliebugs_aujuliebugs_au Member Posts: 1
Alright, so I went to a dealer today and test drove an EX-L FWD. The salesman quoted me an OTD price of $29,542.62, that's invoice price of $27,602 plus $599.50 in admin fees, $189 for vehicle theft registration, and $1,152.12 in taxes and title fees. He also said he could do 15% off floor mats for me.
I feel like maybe I should aim for a bit lower. I'm so bad at this, haha.

Another nearby dealer was telling me today that I needed to buy today because otherwise I'd miss out on the 0.9% financing deal that's going on. He said it ends today, but everything I've read (and been told by the other dealer) says it ends 5/2. So that makes me really wary of that sales guy.

Mike......... dealer in jersey by you............. Metro Honda. Sale was for 500 below dealers Invoice.

    Price ...........................$23,919.......... included destination charge
    taxes ...........................1674
    doc fee...........................299
    dmv...............................270
    Tire fee...........................10

Total otd ..................................................$26,172 Lx awd model.

This above deal can be had at almost every Honda dealer in NJ. Its a good deal for a educated buyer.

If you buy closer to months end bring more dealers into the price wars you will save another 500 to 1k. Your negotiating skills and dealer inventory will help get more $$ off.

DCh Paramus , Garden State , Auto- Sport Honda are dealers you may save a few more dollars. Reach out to them at the end of this month if you could wait.

Are CR-Vs found in any rental fleet? I would like to rent one for a week, or at least a long weekend, before I make up my mind on purchasing.

Honda's not big on fleet sales I guess, but you might try a "rent-a-wreck" place if a used one is okay. Otherwise maybe a dealer would rent you one or at least give you a loaner for a weekend.

Enterprise out in LA has some used CR-Vs for sale that I assume were rentals at one time, so you could check with your local branch about availability. I rented a Prius at out local Enterprise and that was a big help in finding out how livable it would be. Those 15 minute test drives just aren't the same.

I would tell this dealership lower the price by $275 and I buy today plain and simple then hang up the phone and wait ........................................ you will win here.

If you still want to negotiate price further down go for it. My target price would be alot lower especially when dealer is taken back $299 with there high doc fee charge

Folks your leverage with getting the best price comes the last few days of every month. On the 10th of any month is a price struggle, dealer games, deceit, lies, bait and switch tactics dealers pull on us. keep that in mind and always plan to buy a new vehicle at months end or at one of the ending sales quarters. As you guys get more experience in negotiating / buying more new vehicles .........you will understand how this game works.

    happy hunting

New to Edmund..looking for a good quote on CRV EX-L with navigation in Florida. Got a quote

    Total MSRP $30,695
    $900 Destination Fee included

    Your Savings -
    $3,489

    Vehicle Price
    $27,206*
    Expires April 25, 2016

    Total Price
Includes $999.99 Dealer Documentation / Processing Fee

    $28,205*

Will really appreciate if anybody could give a price perspective on this quote. Is the destination fee can be waived? Does 999$ documentation fee high? I am hoping to get it lowerwed to 27500, Is that a good price?

Destination fee cant be waved all buyers pay shipping cost .

Your deal is 1800 below dealers invoice minus the $999 doc fee. If you could lower the sale price another $500 or so it makes that ridiculous doc fee livable to swallow.

$29,006 is your models invoice price w/ dest. charge

1000 to 1500 below invoice is where most buyers in here are shooting for. buyers who hold out till the end of the month and bring more dealerships into the price wars might do better than 1500 below invoice. Find dealers with more stock on there lots it may help get a better price.

    Hi All,

I am trying to buy a 2016 EX AWD with no additional options in NYC, so far my best OTD is $28450. (I think the breakdown is $25.8 incl. destination, plus ~8.8% tax and $332 fees)

Based on the prices being shared here on this forum, I feel like I can do much better? should I head to NJ or other places outside of the city to look for better prices?
