Reds were horrid the first half of hte season. They were just mediocre the 2nd half. They told us they would be rebuilding. But, they let key players go (Johnny Cueto) and backed the truck up for others (Homer Bailey). You can rebuild around Cueto and Joey Votto. Homer Bailey? Not so much!

Say here's a question. I occasionally see an ad for a lese takeover. Usually last two years on a 3 year lease. What's the upside since you are basically paying the full lease price for a year old car?

Often, there is a cash incentive to take over a lease.

I need about a 6 week take over the lease deal......I will need a car for a bit of September, all of October, one week in November before flying to Florida. I wonder if I can find it.

I think the advantage you would have, taking over a 3 year lease that has 2 years to run, is that you may want to be locked in for only 2 years. You may get a bit of a bonus for coming in and taking over the lease, but, the payments on the car itself aren't going to change, that has been all calculated beforehand.

That PT Cruiser does look like an Easter Egg Basket!

I get a feeling of accomplishment. I can scroll through a half a page post in about 1/4 of a second....I feel like I can speed read

I saw one post that would have taken too long to scroll past and I was worried about getting a callous on my scroll finger so I had to resort to the "drag the bar on the right edge gizmo thingy" to save myself.

I guess there may be some limitations in torque-gearing pairing. . I don't know, would need to ask a mechanical engineer. My best guess is that tall gearing may be counterproductive due to large mechanical losses in torque converter, so best they can do is notch it and then pair torque and gear as best to optimum in between.
Who knows. If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

Old manuals with "overdrive" 5-th (then 6th) gear and friction clutch systems could do stuff like that (large increment in gearing). Seems like automatics may not like such things. BTW, I know somebody was a very old driver, when switched from a two-stroke engine to a small gas miser, got a terrible gas mileage because he had a habit of putting vehicle into a top gear at just 20-30 mph (which you reportedly could do with old two-strokes, as they had huge torque in comparison to same sized four-strokes). It also probably killed the powertrain from all those vibrations. Somebody told me his dad cooked a truck's transmissions, also putting it on overdrive during towing. All those things tell me tall gearing and automatics (sometimes even manuals) don't mix that well.

Tall gearing can put a lot of strain on the drivetrain and also cause a lot of "hunting" on automatic transmissions.

Not everyone enters into a lease with nothing down. I have a feeling many people put $2k or $3k down, which lowers the payments, and if you take over the lease, you get the lower payments without having to put money down. And sometimes, the person trying to get out of the lease will offer to give you money to take over the lease.

Yes, it does exist over here ( i don't know if I am up from where you are?). I will see what they say, I wonder if it would be a huge amount of paperwork to lease for 6 weeks compared to rent?

That makes a lot of sense. In the old days when 4 gear overdrives first were introduced you could lock out overdrive with a button. My 86 Toyota had it as does my Lincoln.

How hard it would be to reserve one top gear that's only for low rpm highway cruising? It could be locked out for city use.

I have this Chrysler 300 rental car.
Every once in awhile, it steers like it has a mind of it's own....for about 3 or 4 seconds.
The first time it was when I was accelerating, and it felt like extreme torque steer.
Then it has happened about 4 times, and I have only driven it about 40 miles total.
It is like I have no control over the steering, it only goes a little off course each time, but, I am not the one steering. I don't think it is enough to really cause a problem, but it is not a nice feeling. Maybe the car is haunted,,,wasn't Christine a Chrysler product?

You have the option to have VW buyback the TDI at a known price point in a few months. You have to make sure the TDI you want is eligible (essentially a non-VW dealer), and then you are guaranteed a trade-in value for a 2 year window due to the diesel buyback settlement.

no details have been offered as to the compensation that will be offered to Canadian diesel owners. But, do I buy it, get it licensed, pay DOC fees etc,. and then hope they will offer to buy it back after 6 weeks?

I would think that having to many gears (like 11) would cause a lot of hunting, especially in situations where your speed could vary by a few MPH's consistently.

I agree. Hard to share, my wife is all over the place doing her yoga, tennis, gym, bridge, doctor, dentist and other things women do, talk about doilies or something, and I have to be at tennis, pickleball , and....I guess that's about it.

I think renting is the best plan. The only one better is if someone sold me a great car for a low price, then I could sell it after 6 weeks.....but, there would be license, taxes, advertising, mechanical certificate.......I just talked myself out of that one.

The new 9-10-?? speed transmissions can skip several gears when shifting. It is not directionally sequential all the time.

Been looking for another set of wheels for a while, still looking.
After looking at a lot of new vehicles, I thought maybe I could buy my oldest's '09 Escape, then help them buy something new.
Made what I thought was a pretty good offer, considering the condition, but it was not accepted(no response).
Back to looking at something locally.
