So I think the connection must be loose, or the plug end is failing. Sadly, that part is out of warranty, so I guess I will play around and not figure anything out, and then decide if I want to spend (probably a lot) of money to have it looked at. Hey, maybe I get lucky.

Brutal. Time for the scrapyard! ;)

Those dang Acuras, they just don't make um like they used to!

stickguy, get a USB voltage meter from Amazon. I think they are about $10. They plug in between the USB port and your charge cable and show amperage / voltage. If the voltage isn't a constant 5V or is cutting in and out, I bet the cable attached to the car needs to be replaced.

Can you stream audio via Bluetooth and just use a regular 12V USB charger? That is what I plan to do in the Mustang, since I was not impressed with the buggy SYNC system when connected via USB. More capability by using the cable just seems to equal more problems on that generation of infotainment.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,264
bluetooth works for my phone, but I never stream (just calls). we honestly only ever use the USB to charge (though sometimes my daughter would stream since her phone would not be connected to the BT). I was actually thinking of just getting a USB 12v plug. that should be a cheap way to get the functionality I need. I have a bunch of them from the old days, but I think they are all cables connected, and not lightning.

Get a newer 2.4 amp 12v adapter if you have iPhones, or a quick charge adapter if you use an Android phone. The older ones may not charge as quickly.

ordered one that has good reviews. has a 2.1(?) usb, and a 2nd 1.1 That should cover us. Just for the heck of it I spent $6 on a USB meter. Belt and suspenders action!

Thing is, it is not all that fast. You can get (for one example) a 2014 CTS Vsport that is virtually its equal performance-wise but 7 yrs newer and immensely more comfy and useful for the same money. Although I'm sure the GT500 would hold its value better and certainly looks cooler.

I can't drive that fast around here anyway. A normal 2007 GT would be way overkill for me at this point. More about being fast enough, and looking and sounding cool! I still think my sweet spot right now is one of the many 2.0t sedans, that all seem to be in that 240 HP range. Plenty quick, but still pull impressive MPGs. A 320i, S60, upcoming accord all would work. Or a GLI. Might be killer deals at year end on those once the 2018s land.

Don't want black interior, but otherwise, for the right price? Could live with it.

But dang. Built 26 months ago, and only 43 miles? They are scamming calling that a service loaner! Based on that, seems like better lease option, just in case.

I'm a bit tardy on updates here, but as @Michaell noted I did meet he and @breld (for a short while) on Saturday to try out the Q5 TDI and the SQ5. Here's my thoughts:

The Q5 TDI had the torque and engine pull I loved in the BMW X5 but also had the driving dynamics I'm used to in the Touareg. It was quiet, composed and overall a great driver. The negatives were that they were never built with Adaptive Cruise and some of the other features I would want, in fact this one didn't even have a backup camera. It has 23k miles on it and the asking price was $42k I think? The current payoff on the Touareg (which just turned 22k miles) is just south of $35k. While I liked the Q5 TDI it was a bit too lacking in tech for me to justify paying an extra $7k.

On to the SQ5 which was a 2018 model, so the updated version. The exterior looks sharp and the model I drove was a nice dark blue with a light gray interior, very attractive car and looks very sharp compared to the prior gen (which didn't look bad, but seeing them side by side you notice how much better the refresh looks). As to the drive, upon starting it you hear a VERY pleasant exhaust note, easily sounds like a V8. This model had the Audi cockpit which really is a nice setup and has tons of configurations which would be fun to play with for a couple of weeks. :) Like many other makers they've switched to the "iPad glued on the dash" look for the infotainment which I just don't care for. The Alcantara trim was a nice touch but also adds to the price tag (more on that in a minute). As for the drive, the twin turbo V6 was a decent match for the TDI, slightly less torque but nothing that noticeable if you aren't looking for it. The drive was a touch softer, but as the salesman showed up everything is completely configurable, which I liked. Instead of just picking a driving mode you can customize it and say make the steering heavy but the ride normal and the throttle mapping normal. A neat feature for sure. At the end of the day I was impressed, but a model with the features I want is north of $65k, so almost 2 Touaregs.

I came away impressed with both vehicles, but getting back in the Touareg I have to say I liked it just as much and at the price point couldn't see switching it out for either of these. I do wish the Touareg had a bit more torque, but it's more than adequate for the driving I do.

I dropped the Touareg off yesterday to have a trim piece replaced, I noticed a 2014 or 2015 silver TDI parked out front. I asked the service advisor if it was a buyback and he said someone probably bought it at an auction or something. He didn't know much more and I was in a hurry but when I got back I'll inquire more. @breld I haven't seen the interior of the Atlas lately but do need to check one out. Overall though it looks more and more like I'll just buy the Touareg out, buy an extended warranty and enjoy it as long as I can...or at least for the time being.

@breld I really like the looks of the V90 wagon as well, @Michaell and I were talking about that as I drove him back to pick up his Jetta on Saturday. It would definitely be a great car for commuting. I say go for it.

Well it's a 4 "S" so yeah, it's within the acceptable price range for year and model....$35K to $45K. Not sure why you'd want a 4S, as you could buy a RWD cabriolet for substantially less money.

If it hasn't been titled, it can still be sold (or leased) as new.

Frankly, I wouldn't pay that. I saw a new '17 320i with a $45K sticker on it. I'm sure I could get 7% or more off that sticker price.

Love me some BMWs, I truly do! But, I don't "get" the 320i. It's not particularly quick, doesn't handle like a sports sedan, isn't really lux, is pretty basic by today's new car standards, and for the same money, you can get a number of other pretty sweet lux/sports sedans all loaded up that are better performers.

As far as BMW goes if I'm getting a 3 series I'm probably looking at a 340i (interestingly there is a 2016 at that same dealer). If you're selective with the option boxes it can be a good value....unfortunately quite a few dotting dealer lots around here are pushing $60K.

It is their loss-leader model. Something for the really budget stretched folks, and so they can advertise a lower starting price and teaser lease deals. Not that many people will want one with no options, since it makes a Civic LX look loaded by comparison! But, I would be fine with a 320i that was equipped to be comparable to a decent 330i. The difference in HP would not likely be all that noticeable to me. But, good chance that once you get it all optioned up, a 330 could be a better deal.

For a year or 2 recently Audi threw in the 1.8T into the base model FWE A3's to hit the $30,000 MSRP price point. The 2.0T made 40 more HP with more torque and got 1 more MPG w/ AWD to boot, but the 1.8T was $3,000 less (no AWD).

I don't get why someone would choose the cheaper model unless they were already stretched thin and to the max.

Then again, someone posted a picture of an Eclipse coupe on the road with the Audi Rings emblem on the back. People have also caught others with RS badges on their A-car. They forgot to remove the 2.0T badge for one.

Did some test drives over our lunch break today to see if anything struck my wife's fancy from MB.

Looked at a used GLE - CPO 2016 model w/19k miles. Listed for $45k. No idea if that's a good deal or not, but seemed in line with competitors. This had the navigation, sunroof, lane assist, blind spot.

I was only a passenger in it for the drive, but it certainly drives smooth with plenty of pickup. Plenty of legroom in the rear seat. Pretty much what I would expect - meaning it was really nice. Having test driven a current gen X5 fairly recently though, I don't see anything compelling enough with the GLE to pick it over the BMW.

Then she drove a GLC (new, since there weren't any used ones at this dealer). That, I would pick over the X3 (at least the comparing 4 cylinder models). I really appreciate the interior of this and the current C class (virtually identical I believe?). Again, only a passenger, but it seemed really smooth with easy acceleration. I like the design language of the newer MBs.

My wife? She also liked the overall look inside and out of the GLC, but for one reason or another, prefers the size of the GLE. She is looking forward to trying out an X5.

B, didn't you have 1 or more X5 recently (the diesel?) So should certainly be familiar with that. I still can't see the 2 of you adding a 2nd trucky large SUV to the fleet. Does not seem logical. A larger wagon, well, that is just a sedan for people that like cargo room! Might be smaller than she wants, but I have seen a few used V60s that really struck my fancy.

Yeah, we had a previous generation (2012) X5 diesel. We both liked that one a lot - the current gen is definitely a step up in refinement, I'd say. Since they've been out since the 2014 model year, there is a decent selection on the used market, though they seem to hold their value pretty well here in CO.

By all means she does not need this size of SUV (and she knows that). It's not rational or based on need (none of this is of course), but she likes the contrast of the larger size vs the MINI she'll keep. Though I think if she found a nice 3-series wagon in the right colors, she could be swayed. I agree the V60 is a great deal used, but she's not a fan of the interior.

That is nice for sure - I don't think those XC90's will hold their value as well as the Audi and BMW counterparts, so could make a good used buy. Beautiful interiors.

got browsing around. No pics, but price and color, this interests me. Too bad not a little closer. May not have a BU camera though, which can be an issue on one of these since rear vision kinda sucks. But Volvo wagons also tug at me. Love the 2.0T/FWD combo. Really good MPG ratings.
