It sold for shy of 300K, which we thought was pretty good given that it had barely been touched in ~50 years, and needed some heavy updates, including plumbing - but it had lots of charm with tile work, french doors, built-ins, etc. Today the zestimate is well over 3x the sales price 18 years ago - and the market was considered hot then too, at the end of the 90s tech bubble.

I was 22 in 1999, still a student, and couldn't have came close to that mortgage even if I did it like so many I know, and had the bank of mommy and daddy to put up some funds. My sister and cousin had a then-crazy idea that the house should stay in the family, and they would rent it. I kind of wish they had. I don't know how people fresh to the market here do it, some of them must be stretched insanely thin by the costs, and if the market ever lost the wacky tax deduction subsidy, I don't know how people would react.

I was in a similar situation in 1983. Dad and I were living together in the family home after Mom died, and he wanted to sell the place. At that point I had been working 3 years and was making about $23K a year. He offered me the house for $73,000. If I didn't want it he was going to list it for $83K. He was in real estate and also offered to help me get a mortgage. When he told me it would cost about $750-800/month plus taxes and utilities I threw up my hands and said there was no way I could afford that. So I got an apartment and he sold the house.

That house today is about $500K. Not buying it was the worst move I ever made.

Yeah - and I like how one of them made it a big point to describe how much he paid for it, and how he'd still be taking a $4k loss at his stated price. He's basically asking about the same as he paid, just not counting sales tax.

So, you'd be losing the tax you paid and a little depreciation? Poor you!

If you chose to pay the exorbitant ADM and forced accessories, that's your choice to have had the car right away. But you can't expect the second buyer to do the same.

Honestly, these guys could probably sell their Type Rs if they come down to MSRP - there aren't any available in Colorado as far as I know. And selling a used car for original sticker would be pretty fortunate in my book.

Well, the championship White one does seem like it is owned by an adult.

While the Black one has been driven like a "grampa" for the past 3200 miles and not "been over the speed limit," one wonders how it's owner still knows it is a "sick car.". If this guy thinks "pregnancy isn't cheap," wait until his girlfriend, significant other, or baby momma actually gives birth. That's when the real financial fun starts. I do applaud him for not being willing to "trade for a Pilot Touring AWD."

If I had a nickel every time I heard these statements on a used car sale ad, I'd be rich, even if I only collected when they were false statements:

1) All highway miles
2) Never abused or tracked
3) Only selling because "XYZ"

I remember one that was super specific. Never driven over 3,500 RPM until oil was over 180 degrees.

HDMI ARC??? What does the ARC stand for, and more importantly, what does it do?

ACR...Audio Return Channel.

If you switch your audio/video sources through a pre/processor, A/V Receiver, sound bar, etc, it allows you to use any combination of sources to funnel sound through your selected sound source.

For example, your TV offers some sort of WEB based services like YouTube, Netflix, HuLu, etc. and you use a sound bar for audio, instead of switching to your TV speakers to utilize the TV's WEB services, you can have audio funneled through the sound bar like the rest of your sources.

This isn't an issue if you funnel your WEB based streaming through a BluRay player that has HDMI ARC for audio that has access to the streaming services like Netflix. But, if you have an AMAZON Prime dongle for their services, as an example, there is no way to funnel audio from the dongle to your sound bar.

HDMI ARC is bi-directional, in addition to being capable of carrying 4K video signals, it can also carry high resolution audio, in both directions....from your sources to your TV, and from your TV to your audio sources (like the sound bar, or A/V receiver).

Clear as mud?

We have the Sonos soundbar at one of our TVs and like it quite a bit. I used to be all into the full home theater setup, but now prefer the simplicity of a good soundbar if it accommodates the needs.

We have an LG soundbar and wireless subwoofer in our family room. Kids wired it up so it works for Hulu, Netflix, Comcast, Amazon, etc.

We lost power Sunday afternoon and by Monday noon, knew we had to get out. Wife got a place on Miami Beach. Only issue, bridges closed and no one allowed on beach. Called a Choice hotel reservations line and found us a hotel in Miami by airport, a Cambria Suites. Great place, only had a handicap room left that someone canceled,it was perfect. Just got home this afternoon to start cleaning up the damage to the foundation, window and wet carpeting. We have a mess!! Luckily, the tree will grow back.
Living with no power sucks and pray they get everyone online very soon! This is it for me, told the wife we gotta move by next year as I've had enough after 48 years! This time, i'm quite serious!!

I see a future for autonomous vehicles forever stuck on the freeway as everyone else learns to exploit its safety features (perhaps by swerving a tad into its lane to make room for yourself at the last second). Probably won't do well in the game of Chicken!

Actually it won't fall into the sea...California is actually shifting along the fault and the west part is heading to Seattle. Just ask fintail, he knows all about this.

I just heard that BMW is planning on doing away with keys altogether in favor of a smart phone app. Guess they don't want to sell to dinosaurs like me.

Then again with modern keys costing hundreds of dollars, a smart phone might be cheaper.

I see a future where autonomous cars create gridlock as owners send them off after getting to their destination. Someone just popping in to the store for a few minutes (or more) just sends their car circling around the block until they get done. Someone drives to work downtown sends their car home only to have it come back in the afternoon to pick them up because it's cheaper than paying for downtown parking. And other deal like that.

Just don't let your cell phone die, or forget it someplace. I can see it now, thousands of BMW owners become zombie chow in the zombie apocalypse because their cell phone batteries died and they couldn't get into their cars.

BMW already has an app-BMW Connected-that allows you to check the status of your car, send destinations to the navigation system, and lock or unlock it- and it allows you to schedule preconditioning on the i and iPerformance vehicles.
I suspect that more features will be added to BMW Connected but the key will be retained; the key fob contains a mechanical key and als stores vehicle data that th Service Advisor reads when a vehicle is brought in.

Don't forget the Display Key that has an LED Screen on it that reads out vehicle info as well. That display key is a waste of technology, in my opinion. It is wirelessly charged in the console.

Actually it won't fall into the sea...California is actually shifting along the fault and the west part is heading to Seattle. Just ask fintail, he knows all about this.

So, all the Californian who are moving north toward Seattle are just getting an early start instead of waiting for geology, plate tectonic, and the every-shifting crust to take them there. LOL

Chevy and Buick have that as well. On my Volt it also shows whether it's charging and the charge level. Nice if I'm charging while at dinner or shopping. I see that as a model for the future. Fewer stand alone gas stations you go to for one purpose and more charge spots in malls and parking lots where you "fill up" while doing other things.

The Chevy app projects finishing times too. I used Charge Point for the first time in San Diego last month. It worked well.

That's exactly my concern with self drivers...the human factor. These vehicles could be rendered immobile by kids tossing a garbage can or bag of trash into front of them for fun. What mayhem will occur when one of these AVs slam on the brakes in heavy traffic?

The lawyers will have a field day.

There are some really good soundbars out there. Sonos is one. BOSE, believe it or not, have some that aren't bad. I heard an ATMOS demonstration using an LG sound bar that I was impressed with.

That said, tough to get away from my full blown surround sound A/V set up. Hell, I just added a 15" sub to my 18" sub. I will put my system up against anything you hear in a theater. You want to get the "in theater" movie experience without putting up with the people who have their cell phones wringing, infants screaming, person behind talking the whole time, I'll stick to my own home theater.

When I bought my new TV for my bedroom wall, I also bought a sound bar made by Vizio. The sound adds to the surround sound and is easy to use. I think I paid $200 for the speakers.
