We only expel members through a computer-generated program that does it randomly. That way it's completely fair.

Kristie use to have a Delete-O-Matic 5400... that Jmonroe was quite familiar with. But that was in the olden days. Glad to see things streamlined these days. Gives the rest of us a fighting chance. ;-)

On the handicapped parking, some businesses go a bit overboard. My tennis Club has 3 spaces. Can' recall anyone using them. Logical. Maybe its the law you have to have so many spaces designated for handicap parking, per total number of spaces available.

It is an ordinance in all cities in order to be in compliance with the ADA (Americans With Dissabiltiies Act). I used to serve on the Planning Commission in my local town/city. All public parking facilities must have one handicap parking space per “X” number of total parking spaces. Hospitals and similar high handicap usage facilities must have a higher percentage of handicap spaces. Severe fines can be levied against owners of buildings and facilities that do not meet the minimum requirements for handicap spaces.
Mike, I'm late with the congrats about your grandson. Stop smiling, I know you are. Grandson #4's hockey team won their tournament yesterday and I still smile when I think about how well he played. He made countless great saves to help his team win the three games needed to win the tournament trophy. It sounds like your grandson has quite an arm and it should help him as he progresses through baseball. When he gets older I hope he maintains the good arm. FWIW, I had a pretty good arm too and believe it or not I still throw as hard today as I did when I was 20...just takes a LOT longer to get there. Keep us abreast on his accomplishments and stop smiling so much. jmonroe

Yes, jmonroe - I have a smile on my face every time I think of my grandson. I am so very proud of what he has accomplished in his 17 years of life. He grew to 6’4” tall. He acquired a true love of baseball. He learned to hit. He learned to pitch a ball over the plate at over 90 mph. He has maintained a 3.8 GPA. He got a 65% scholarship, including room and board, to a college of his choice. He was smart enough to know that if he accepted a 50% scholarship to a division 1 school, he’d probably sit on the bench for 2 years. He wants to play baseball, not musical chairs. Now, he’ll be a starting pitcher in his freshman year and in years 2, 3 and 4, he’ll pitch and play first base so he can bat - which he loves to do. I love this kid! Besides, with his blond hair and blue eyes, big cheek dimples and muscular physique, he has no problem with the girls.

As for staying healthy and avoiding injuries, that’s in God’s hands. This boy earned what he’s already accomplished and deserves all the breaks he can get.

BTW, he is already being seriously scouted by many major league teams. All I can do is pray for this boy!
@abacomike - makes you wonder if he'll get drafted by an MLB team this summer ....

No - he wants to finish college first - wants to be a teacher/coach at last check. That will most probably change.

Not only will it hurt the US....higher prices, the big 3 will get sloppy again if there isn't any competition...but, another issue is that countries that trade usually cooperate with each other. Their economies become intertwined, and they become dependent on each other to thrive. Also, it isn't a nice way to treat your alleys and other friendly countries.

Isolation and trying to be the top dog doesn't work too well these days.

The rhetoric from the media is nice, but China has stated their intent to monopolize the steel and aluminum production. In fact, they said they would dominate solar cell production, requiring aluminum, even if they have to sell below the cost--dumping.

We need to improve our economic productivity by producing more things that start with raw materials and make things like steel and aluminum from which yet other things are made and from those even more are made and sold. That improves the GDP greatly when having industry starting from scratch.

There is also the problem of supply of either in case of war. And for Canada we should carefully and fairly negotiate to trade in ways that benefit both of us. Some give and some take. WE are stronger together.

Called the dealer today to schedule service for my Fusion(oil change and tire rotation).
Asked the scheduling person if they had anything for Saturday, No. Monday, No.
What do you have? How about today at 3pm? Book it.
While I was waiting, I went into parts to order all weather mats for my new truck.
We have then in stock, 20% off. Sold.
Car is ready, go to pay the bill, your have earned a free service. Great didn't have to pay anything for that.
Pretty good day.

Mine is nice and effective, but without the freebies like that. Well, they do give a Golden Buckeye card (Ohio Seniors card) discount of 11% up to $25.

Not terribly relevant IMO, as I can count on one hand the US car models actually desired by people in Europe. Europe levies taxes on all non-EU imports, FWIW. Reminds me of the complaints about levies on US cars in Japan - nobody wants them to begin with. The average consumer in Bamberg or Reims wants an Expedition or Impala like the average consumer in Ohio or Wyoming wants a Twingo or Up!. You could put a negative 10% tariff on US models sold in Europe, and I wager it would make virtually no difference.

Aren't we supposed to be the superior (although we fail in most HDI) "free market" and take the higher road in cases like this, where there's no real impact?

It's almost like someone didn't actually pay attention in class when daddy was paying for fancy tuition at Wharton. Indeed, no real people win - consumers lose via higher prices and likely inflation. One can't be isolationist in the 21st century.

But maybe scum like Icahn can cash in again - didn't Martha Stewart spend time behind bars for an offense with a fraction of the profit? Lock him up.

No plans to modify. Some thoughts of upgraded wheels, but this is mainly the wife's ride. Might upgrade the tires without upgrading the wheel. The 55 series tires provide a good light-off-road-duty capability, but they are little 205's, 215's or 225's in the same aspect ratio might be a good upgrade to keep off-road capability alive.

If no more off-road jaunts are in our future, an 18" +1" wheel upgrade with 8" wide rim and lower aspect tires might provide a nice upgrade to handling.

I am really liking the car play app. can do everything in advance on the phone, and just plug in the lightning cable when in the car, and all set to go. Plus simple to google anything and have it up, so no need to ever know an address like when using the car nav.

Got new shoes for the TTS, went with the Michelin Pilot Super Sport 4S's. When you read Tire Rack's review of this latest and greatest tire, how could you not buy it?

Any of you guys live near Allentown PA? I was down there at LVI airport and was amazed at the truck traffic on I-78 heading away from the coast. They must have been fleeing the latest storm of the century. We're expecting a foot again. Hope they're wrong in the opposite direction from last Friday

that area in Lehigh Valley is booming with distribution warehouses, since it is so centrally located. Constant truck traffic on the highways in the area is the downside.

I have all my work done at my indie shop. He gives me a quantity discount on parts and doesn't try to sell me stuff I don't need. It helps that he's 3 miles away while the dealer is 20.

A few of the Fords I've driven had NAV but like the radios they were overly difficult to use. Maybe if I had time to fiddle with them I could use them without ending up in a ditch. As is my outdated Garmin does a good enough job.

IMO Garmin did some things with navigation better in the early part of the 21st Century than many of the latest navigation programs and apps do it.

I'm jealous, here in the frigid north those tires would start to crumble in the cold weather, never mind be useless in the snow. I'm looking at some of the older Michelin Sport types for 9 month use. I can accept them getting a little squirlly at 30 degrees as long as they don't crack.

carplay does it through siri I think. But I have not tried that. sounds like same basic thing, just BMW as usual reinventing the wheel!

does the navi have real time traffic too? The nicest thing about running off the phone. My sonata had nice navi, but it didn't factor in traffic conditions.

Chinese Buicks are made in China. Heck, some American Buicks are made in China. I am sure there is a plan for these type of cars.

My S450 reroutes my trip in the event of traffic accidents or traffic congestion when I’m using the car’s GPS. I prefer the car’s GPS and route guidance over the Apple CarPlay’s.

When I have to go to a destination I am unfamiliar with, I prefer sending the address to my car via the “Mercedes Me” mobile app in the comfort of my home. When I turn on the ignition, it pops up on the main screen of the car and voice command asks if I want to start route guidance. I use that feature more than most features in the car.

In my past "life" I owned a small ornamental metal shop in NYC. We worked for a lot of the 1 percenters (or their decorators). But, I did work personally with the first former Mrs. Trump and Carl Ichan. I can only relate my experience, but what you may have heard is true. They were horrible to deal with.

In my past "life" I owned a small ornamental metal shop in NYC. We worked for a lot of the 1 percenters (or their decorators). But, I did work personally with the first former Mrs. Trump and Carl Ichan. I can only relate my experience, but what you may have heard is true. They were horrible to deal with

It's the old style of running a business....be the bully and try to .....ah hum...well, trump the other guy. Business has changed, companies that cooperate and build relationships usually do better. Most products and scientific research is done globally these days.....isolation and trade barriers is the old way.

One small examples, fruit and vgetable growers in Florida are concerned Canada will add tariffs to their product to retaliate. Canada can add tariffs and buy the same products from Mexico or Chile....how does that help?

my Jetta can do that. So could the Sonata. But only if you paid the money for the service (the Jetta was IIRC $115 a year?)

That is separate though from having real time traffic connected to the in car navi. Neither car had that.

Yes, it has real time traffic as well as what BMW calls "Dynamic Guidance." If that feature is activated the car will change the route as you are driving to avoid congested or closed roads.

It does seem like that. I noticed that China is expected to exceed U.S. retail sales globally (that's everything sold to everyone in stores or online stores) by the end of 2018.

Kinda looks like Asia and Germany are going to be calling the shots economically in the next 50 years.

Probably.....U.S. handed it to them, which makes it sting (and costly).

Siri gets directions for anyone or anyplace via voice...even gathering directions from my calendar appts. And, it routes based on traffic, construction, etc, the quickest route. Plus, I have access to all of my music, podcasts and audible books while in the car.

I think manufacturers are going to have to adapt to CarPlay/AndroidAuto, or be left behind with their proprietary systems.

Seeking more advice from the peanut gallery.

Not sure if I mentioned, but I had a pipe burst in my master/en-suite bathroom. It could not have burst in a worse location......furthest away from the current jacuzzi tub installation. I have a separate shower that was affected, too (water shot under the shower floor and signs of mold are becoming evident). It’s now fixed.

Since the Master bath sits over the garage, the garage ceiling was soaked and the water enevtually became so heavy, part of the garage ceiling caved in (fortunately, it happened while I wasn’t home, so the TLX was spared.

Anyway, starting to get some estimates for repair. I have a couple of choices....

A. Go like for like and replace the shower, its enclosure, the Jacuzzi tub, and the associated tile (which a portion was hand painted, probably unsalvageable if being torn out)

B. Since that would be replacing ½ the bath already, just take it all down to the studs and start new (cost wise I’m wondering if the labor to work around existing fixtures/sinks/cabinets would take longer than to just tear out and start new?)

I have a double vanity and commode across from the broken pipe. But, won’t know the status of mold until a tear out is done.

Fortunately (I think) State Farm is my insurance. So, hoping they’ll be fair!

BTW.....first company that came out with an estimate quoted $30K for a tear out and total rebuild. Sales guy asked if I’d sign the contract immediately if he knocked $15K off the price. Sounded kind of sleazy. I told him “no”!

I agree that it can often be more efficient to scrap it all. Time is money. Unless you have some big desire to save existing components, but something like a vanity could be removed and replaced. Plus you have to worry about what they missed if they didn't take everything out.

Do you use your tub? When we redid our master bath 7 years ago, we did put a tub back in (about 1/2 the size of the old one. I believe my wife used it once. We knew that would happen, and really only put it in for resale. So if you don't use it, scrap the Jacuzzi part and put a more basic, smaller one in. We preferred to expand the shower instead.

and if you have it all ripped out, consider a heated floor. I wish we put one of them in!

Only hole right now as far as CarPlay is that you can't view Waze on the screen in the car. You can hear the voice directions of course. But only Google maps shows up on the screen, and I do not find that nearly as good or useful as Waze.

carplay actually has apple maps. I miss having google maps. But to be fair, the apple maps has been just fine in the elantra. I never use wave so not a big deal to me.

Do you getting a lot better to supposedly in Albany my brother leaves I think about 45 minutes passed Albany in Lake George area haven’t been up there since Thanksgiving time probably in the spring or something will get up there or in the summer I think that’s in all formers neck of the woods maybe not too 4

That was by far my fave feature in my Caddy. I don't know why more manufacturers don't use such an app.
I think CarPlay is sort of usurping the proprietary vehicle smart control systems. I know I used CarPlay more in my Caddy and current TLX than I did either CUE or AcuraLink, respectively.

Siri gets directions for anyone or anyplace via voice...even gathering directions from my calendar appts. And, it routes based on traffic, construction, etc, the quickest route. Plus, I have access to all of my music, podcasts and audible books while in the car.

I think manufacturers are going to have to adapt to CarPlay/AndroidAuto, or be left behind with their proprietary systems.

I agree about WAZE. I like it. The downside of WAZE, it uses a lot of data from your phone.

Apple Maps has become quite good over the last year or so. Plus, it’s constantly up to date. I think their traffic updates are good, too. Even showing up to date construction data.

I have been pleased with apple maps when I used it in the car (normally I use google maps). I think a lot of people formed an opinion on it years ago, and perceptions are hard to change. But I have read reviews over the last few years that said it had made a lot of improvements, and was now comparable to the other options.

Do you use your tub? When we redid our master bath 7 years ago, we did put a tub back in (about 1/2 the size of the old one. I believe my wife used it once. We knew that would happen, and really only put it in for resale. So if you don't use it, scrap the Jacuzzi part and put a more basic, smaller one in. We preferred to expand the shower instead.

and if you have it all ripped out, consider a heated floor. I wish we put one of them in!

Or, the price of the cars we really want just go up in price.

American steel rather than cheaper foreign steel will be used....also raising the price of AMERICAN cars. Putting tariffs on foreign cars also hurts more businesses than the steel industry - dealership owners, salesmen, parts, garages........could do a lot more damage than good.

There would have to be a substantial surcharge for me to not buy what I really want to buy. And, I might pay a surcharge.....because I want to be able to choose to buy what I want. Artificial protectionism and no competition leads to a poorer product.
