You're both right but that Jeep was not born in the USA.

It's not a Mahindra, but it is a licensed Jeep copy, a 1992 Mitsubishi Jeep J-53/turbo-diesel

Better be cranked up to 11. What is their highest output on that engine right now? 280hp?

EDIT: 292 hp and 280 lb-ft in the TTS. That might be OK to compete with the Colorado v6 option.

EDIT EDIT: jalopnik says the 276hp 3.6 v6. That's 30 horses down from the Colorado while I believe being closer to the Silverado in size.

You can't remember it because it's one of those meaningless names made up by marketers,
like Tiguan, Kona or Acura. It's called the VW Tanoak (pronounced Tan-oak not Tan-o-ak).

I think they've sold pickups in other markets that was Tiguan-sized. IIRC it was called the Amorak (another dopey name):

The USA Today article described the Tanoak as an intermediate, an in or so longer than some other intermediates.

I think it's meant to replicate the Honda Ridgeline.--car-like ride. So it's a "cruck".

I'm trying to think of other vehicles named after a tree? Oh, the Sequoia! The Aspen! The Blackwood!

I didn't know the Chevy had that, but I do know that the C-body Chrysler wagons in 1972 made that same claim. I presume 3M came up with that product for '72 and sold it to a few companies.

Caption of pic was '57 Buick Century Caballero Estate Wagon. Not a great angle but I was looking for something close to the car for scale. By itself I think it looks larger than what it really is or was. Can't be many of them left in the wild.

    Ok, Pop Quiz......
    The 1958 Buicks didn't have (X).

Sales/production was some kind of record low for 1958. So I'm guessing the missing Buick X is a model line which was dropped for '58?

edit: I don't know what the entry level Buick was back then but if that model was dropped it might explain some of the sales loss.

Entry level Buick in those years was the Special. Hierarchy was Special -> Century -> Super -> Roadmaster. In 1959 they changed that to LeSabre -> Invicta -> Electra.

The sales loss was due mostly to the Eisenhower recession combined with ungainly, overdone styling that looked dated.

Nailed it, it's a 1956 Fiat 1100 TV. The Millecento is considered one of the best cars ever made by Fiat. The TV version featured an uprated motor modified by italian tuner Stanguelini.

I'd love to have one. I think Jay Leno has one in his collection. These little puppies can go 70 mph and get 40 mpg. (perhaps not at the same time, but...)

Isn't the easier question to answer is "What doesn't Jay have in his garage?"

It looks like a Mazda but I would guess more likely an earlier model - we had one here called the R100 although they only sold a few in Britain, in about 1970-71.

At first glance, I was rather sickened by it, but as I continue to look at it and zoom into the details, I find myself strangely interested and somewhat attracted to it. A lot of work went into that and appears it may have been done pretty well, too.

I was going to say an early-1970s Mazda RX-2 but I am not totally sure.
