I told you all I got to Thunderbird back from the shop think it’s three weeks ago now started cleaning it up slowly but wanted to wash it tonight but so humid out thing is gonna be like that for the next few days it’s insured to Hagerty. Just have to get the plates now everything’s under my dad’s name to keep it easier no one else is really going to drive the car besides my dad and my cousin and maybe a friend of mine that I go to some of the cruise nights with was an old pick up truck and he brings me along with him so I went to a few the past few weeks loving itg I told you all I got to Thunderbird back from the shop think it’s three weeks ago now started cleaning it up slowly but wanted to wash it tonight but so humid out thing is gonna be like that for the next few days it’s insured to Hagerty. I buy a new gas can every few years. As you have probably noticed, they change the nozzle operation frequently and they have finally perfected it.

With the newest one I spill gas every time I use it.

I do not like the nozzle they are using on the new gas cans. Definitely do not like. At all. Period.

I thought the whole case was tossed out. Guess I read the post wrong.

The whole "El Cajon" East County case was put in the proper place, with a Change of Venue to the County Seat. The failure to appear at a Court I never signed to appear at is what was thrown out. The original speeding ticket that started the whole charade still has to be litigated.

Lot of goverment wheels turning for a lousy $250 or so (low over speed on speeding).;

I have completely given up on newer gas cans. They change the design all the time, but they all work just as badly (if not worse) than the prior release! Now, I keep a supply of old-style nozzles on hand and just modify the new cans to use them. Saves me a whole lot of frustration the first time I'm trying to empty a five-gallon can at ten degrees below zero..... !

When I was a kid Dad had a rectangular metal gas can that we used for the lawnmower and the like that seemed indestructible. It had a flexible metal spout and a little vent cap on the can to let the contents flow freely. It probably is still in use somewhere.

We had one of those too! And, yes, I imagine that it MUST still be in action somewhere....

I have a few things from a different era. As example, my father bought a couple of red metal Coleman coolers (new) - either late 60s or early 70s vintage. I still have one of them.

Glad folks posted about this problem. I just use them without the silly EPA ratchet spouts that don't work right. I'm filling using a funnel; I'm not pushing the spout into the filler tube on a car.

I'll check out the offerings for replacement nozzles on Amazon.

Hate those new nozzles....so I simply use an old spout and nozzle with just a little flip up cap on the end. Still fits the new cans.

No, probably not. I found one of those last year, in a thrift shop. It still looked good, and I picked it up for next to nothing. But when I got it home and checked it out, it was rusty inside . Turn it upside down and shake it, rust flakes would come out. A little reading online, vinegar is the answer, so I bought 2 gallons of vinegar and left it sitting. A few days later, the gas can is empty, the vinegar ate the rust all right, and left a hole. Actually several holes.

The vinegar cost more than the gas can, and it was a total loss. And my side yard smelled of vinegar for a while there.

The Great Race is coming through town today and while the ending spot is known, the route they take to get there is a secret. I kind of get that because they don't want delays and crowds en route, but it is really a missed opportunity to see the old cars in motion at speed (sic) to take pics. The spot they will be stopping at tonight isn't the greatest in terms of access so I would prefer not to have to go there and park miles away.

I know what you mean. I had one of those metal one gallon gas cans for many, many years and I saw it starting to rust so I canned the can. Started using an old windshield washer fluid bottle with a funnel for a few months for the lawn mower. I knew I had to find something better and I lucked out one day when I was buying something at the Sears tool department. When the guy wrung up the tool he said, "since you've been a good Sears customer we are giving you a free 2 1/2 gallon gas can". It was a plastic job and I was kinda leery of it but it was a lot heavier than the windshield washer fluid bottle.

It has a snap cover on the vent cap that is contained by a thin plastic piece that I figured would last for about 10 or so openings but even that is still in place. It has a nozzle that is not restricted in any way and as a result is very easy to use. It has to be about 20 years old by now with no signs of wear. I have no plans on canning this one any time soon.

Those 1964 Imperials were OK cars but a Cadillac was much better. Those Imperials ate front end parts and brakes! Even in the 70's some of those front end parts were near impossible to find. They plowed through corners. The 413's were good engines and so were the Torqueflights. They had a huge gas tank and for good reason!

Oh man.....that irritates me to no end. Those responsible are dishonest, lying thieves.

The positive, that’s easy to fix. The downside, Acura uses a two step process for painting. Good paint jobs, but expensive to repair.

I've never heard of one that does. I know mine doesn't and l'm with one of the best if not THEE best in my area. The best that I could do with my company when a jacked-up truck took out the right front fender on Mrs. j's 2012 Subie in a parking lot and took off, was to get it fixed as a "not at fault accident". But it still cost me 500 bucks (my collision deductible).

Thanks all. I get mishaps happen but it's certainly easier to handle when there aren't unknowns factored into the equation, mainly the unknown of who did this.

Bummer about the hit and run. Hang in there. My parents used to say things like "at least you are ok" when bad things happened that in the end only involved trouble and a bit of money.

Last summer, my SIL drove my daughter's pretty much new car to meet us for vacation.
When he came out of the hotel, the left rear fender was damaged similar to yours.
Thing is, the vehicle that did it was still parked in the next spot.
Called the police, but they couldn't really do anything because it was private property.
Found the culprit, but I think they ended up paying the deductible anyway.
At least the other person had insurance.

I know very little about insurance, but wouldn't that be a comprehensive claim?

My brother used to be an insurance agent and as he explained it to me years ago, "Collision is for when you hit something. Comp is for when something hits you."

It should be covered under uninsured motorists coverage. Your deductible still applies, though.

Comprehensive is for those times when something happens to the vehicle while parked, but not related to another motor vehicle. So, if a tree falls on it, a moose falls through the moon roof, etc. When nature attacks...

However, I'm sure that what is covered where and when probably varies by state.

@driver100 the car was parked on the street so unfortunately no cameras. The wife went to the Luke Bryan concert so me and the kids headed over to have a swim day and cookout at a friends house. All was well until a neighbor came to the backyard and asked who owned the white Acura as it had been hit and the other car kept driving. One of the other fathers and myself went down and surveyed the damage and called the police after I let some hushed words of frustration out. The police came, wrote their report, and gave me the incident #.

Thankfully no one was hurt and the damage will be repaired.

Someone did about the same to my Misano Red S4 at a Costco parking lot, only it was a bit worse (dented inward on the rear side bumper).

I'd trade my backup camera for a damn 360 suirvellance cam of my car when parked. I'd love to find out what scum of the Earth does these things to nice cars and then runs away without telling anyone.

1) They are terrible drivers.
2) They have terrible integrity.

I'd like to learn what else is wrong with them.

In CA that'll never happen. In order to collect on uninsured motorist coverage, you bascially have to have an ACT of Congress!!!

You have to PROVE beyond all reasonable doubt the person that hit your car was uninsured. Therefore, without a license plate number, you are truly and 100% SOL. Insurance companies, a bit insanely, ASSUME anyone doing a hit and run was insured, until you prove otherwise.

As I said in my other post just now, a hit & run usually would entail someone that's not insured, but insurance companies like to assume they were insured until you can PROVE otherwise.

You have the right attitude Pensfan........it is aggravating but what can you do. Like you said, at least no one was hurt.
Too bad someone didn't get a license number.
It is surprising how many people have cameras that do catch stuff going on on the street, but, that would take a lot of work trying to check all those neighbors cameras.

I should have also said that my rate would not go up do to my claim because I have been with this company for more than 25 or maybe even 30 years without any type of claim.

Like I said, they are a very good company. They have never once refused a premium payment.

pensfan - first of all, I'm sorry for the hit and run that damaged your car. It's really sad that the person that did his didn't have the honesty and heart to stop and put a note on your car with their information. I would think that either comprehensive would cover it or uninsured motorists. Put in a claim and hope for fairly quick and also accurate service from your car insurance Company.

I hear these 2013 Ford Focus ST's are fun to drive and pretty tight. No one's picking this one up in Alamogordo.

The Mrs. wouldn't want any kind of transaction for any kind of car right now, period. $11,500 is fair for one of these with 61,000 miles, I would think.
