It does handle nice. Wife said it rode well on the highway and she seems to like it. But very chintzy with radio presets at only 12. My Elantra had something like 30.

Yes it would be nice if the TLX had more than 12 presets for SiriusXM. There are probably about 20 stations I listen to at least once in a while....

I'm only at 8,500 miles after 15 months, and this is after a round trip last week to Cincinnati put around 600 miles on it. As for gas mileage it was lower this trip, around 26/27. It's either the winter blend gas or the weight of the beer I bought at 50 West Brewing ;)

A child of the '60s, music was just in my periphery until a friend insisted I listen to "Who's Next" by (surprisingly) The Who. At that moment, music became important. Who fan since, as well as all British Invasion and that old time rock and roll. But, current fave terrestrial radio station is WERS, the Emerson College station; plays a great commercial free variety of music.

Unless Megabucks calls in the next few hours, telling me to come pick up my 7 figure winnings, no '18 punch here. But, oh how I shop! Isn't that what the interwebs were truly created for, car shopping?

Oh, yes, and a happy new year to all! May '19 be the happiest, healthiest, wealthiest and punchiest for all!
Going to a restaurant/comedy show with another couple tonight to celebrate. For me, that's a pretty big night out.

We’ve put 14000 miles on the Volt in 2 years. Now that we are on the West Coast we fly long distances rather than drive except within California. 75% of our mileage is electric, as we only use gas on the out of town trips.

My son said his G70 garners a lot of attention. People in other cars slowing down to check it out, and he was at a party Saturday and many people arriving after stopped to check it out on the way past.

Was out by myself today so I “exercised” the stereo. Impressive. Vastly better than the base unit my Elantra had. Exercised the engine a bit too. Seems to enjoy that. Nice sound, plenty of power. Handling continues to impress also, with still an acceptable ride. Nice quiet cabin too. The A spec at least IMO qualifies as a sports sedan.

I do need to get used to all the beeps and flashes. Or turn some stuff off. At least I always know if I’m near anything, though when the wife is in the car, she can take care of that aspect.

I've never driven one although some claim it qualifies as the "worst car in the world". However, I think that slur was mainly due to the horrible automatic transmissions in the Smart, so perhaps the EV version makes the car tolerable?

Pretty fair review. He seems to generally like it.

Me personally? I'd never put up with all that touch-screen nonsense.
  • ab348ab348 Member Posts: 20,484
Yeah, the fiddly screen and the need to look at it for normal instrument readings is a miss for me. I found it funny when he demonstrated using it to turn on the wipers, he had a hard time figuring out how to turn them off.

If they are running the tires @ 48psi I wonder what kind of tires they are using and how much they are to replace/how readily available they are. No wonder the ride is a bit jittery.

Spent a good portion of today making my end of the year charitable donations. Bad news, that puts me a bit farther away from a new car punch. Good news, now I can't lose that $ at the blackjack tables! Not to mention, of course, the good that will (hopefully!) come of the donations.
And, my Xmas blood donation put me at 9 gallons! I'm tired...

Started listening also in the summer of '62, had two older siblings, and the radio was on constantly. Listened throughout the '60's, '70's and '80's. Got my kids into music also as it was always on in the car when we drove places. Now, I love my SAT radio and am always playing it or if in a rental without it, just plug in my iPhone and listen to the many songs in there. Love music and like having it in the background of our life.

I want a new house. But after looking for something recently in the basement and realizing just how much crap my wife has stashed, I might be sorry if we do move. Might be better to just stay here until I get carried out in a body bag. Just can't afford to ever retire if we stay, so seems like a poor plan.

why anyone needs that many empty boxes is beyond me. I need to start clearing stuff out of there when she is at work. though that might hasten the trip in the body bag.

maybe where I live. Where he is and a 4 car garage, might be more like 12! If you are getting expensive cars.

I can just give up and have it all packed in a pod instead, then have it dropped in the driveway at the new place. Deal with it as it comes out of there! Or just live with a Pod in the driveway for the next decade.

Happy New Year, all!!  I will not be staying up tonight because our flight back was diverted to Montana for 3 hours due to a medical emergency. No food, no water, not allowed off the plane. Suffice to say, Sam was not understanding. Very very happy to be home.

    Happy New Year, as well!

@stickguy - you and my wife would get along well. I can't tell you how many trips I make annually to donate goods from our house. However, the basement in our house is starting to accumulate more stuff than I realize (of course, the last house was a bit larger and had a finished basement, so I can sort of understand). Industrial strength shelves were put up over the weekend and now we need to organize things.

Snow today. All day. Fluffy stuff, so wasn't much effort to clear the driveway and sidewalks this afternoon; I'll likely do it again tomorrow. Maybe a few inches total, so far.

I don't know if we can establish a national house to car punch ratio for this group. Housing prices here in CO are still ticking up, but nothing like NJ or PNW. We've seen about 3% appreciation on our place in 7 months. No plans to move, yet, but the wife is complaining about the winter weather, so anything is possible in 5-10 years.

Every year I submit a guess as to how many punches we'll have, and every year I'm terribly wrong. I'll submit a guess of 32 for 2019, however. @corvette, who was closest for 2018?

I'm going to be a little more optimistic than usual and go with 39. Likely, I'll be low. But, if @breld actually DOES go through with this whole house thing, then that will probably slow them down, at least a little, on the car front!

Oh, and happy new year! Enjoy this final year of the second decade of the twenty-first century! Seems a little hard to believe that we've burned nearly a fifth of the century already! :s

I think Breld and Q (and me) are out of the mix (well, Breld by his standards) so I will go with 30.

Michael, there are 2 NJ's really. North and South. My house in Bergen county would be at least double what it is down in SJ outside Philly.

I do have lots of nice wood Ikea shelves down there. Stuff just keeps piling up on the floor. I did have it pretty well organized, then she brought home a bunch of stuff from her childhood home when her father died. Mostly though it got cluttered up when we cleaned the upstairs (kids rooms now that they are gone - they left, everything they ever had and don't want remains). I sacrificed that space as having all the crap to deal with in one place. It is just hard to get through that area now!

Clutter happens. My basement got pretty loaded up when we moved my mom in.  I chip away at it from time to time, but still way too much stuff.

I think life, especially if you've been in one residence for a while, leads inevitably to clutter and too much "stuff". After my basmeent reno in 2017 it became clear to me that I had way too much junk accumulating. I have been picking away at it ever since. Last week I got rid of an old office-sized electric typewriter and metal table for it that I had since university. Hadn't used it in over 30 years.

Yesterday on Twitter, a CBC business reporter out of Toronto posted an ad from a local paper from 1964 advertising new single-family homes in a development (near Leslie and Finch for those of you familiar with the area) for about $16,500. That made me look the area up on Streetview and as expected it is now a fully developed neighborhood with mature trees and looked like a nice place to live., not overly posh but certainly middle-class. Then I looked at real estate listings for those streets. Cheapest place I found was $600K, most were just over $1mil, but a couple that had been added on to and recently reno'ed were over $2mil. I responded with that info back to her, and she in turn applied the Bank of Canada inflation calculator to the original price, which worked out to something like $137K. So the original price has inflated at least over 4 times the rate of inflation, generally more like 7 or 8 times more.

Snowy and windy here this morning, not pleasant at all. Supposed to switch to rain later which means I will be clearing slush. Ugh. Just 11.5 weeks to Spring though.

IIRC, Breid bought a house around 2 years ago and his car buying ACCELERATED. So I wouldn’t count him out for 2019.
As to clutter, we had enormous amounts — 3 kids stuff after they moved out, inherited stuff from both parents. As long as we had a large house I kept all of it. But when we moved across the country to a tiny condo I got ruthless. It took a year, but we sold, gave away, or tossed about 80% of our possessions. It was very hard, but we are so glad we did it. Life is much easier with smaller digs and less stuff!

    Happy New Year.

Love Diana Krall...have actually seen her perform a couple of times. She puts on a great show.....extremely talented jazz pianist and an even better jazz vocalist. After playing Monopoly for 4 hours last night, I finally lost by landing on Boardwalk.....with a hotel....my last 2 times around the board.

My friend who I mentioned was cited for a DUI several weeks ago showed up. He’s fighting the charge because he says he was not “Mirandized”. Prosecutor offered reduced charges. But, he says his lawyer feels good about his charges being dismissed. But, the prosecutor keeps asking for and being granted continuances, driving up my friend’s legal fees.

He feels he will win the case, but at a pretty significant legal bill!
