Just got the word that my '04 OBS, the one that got rear-ended early last December, is finally done. I'll pick it up this evening. Thank God, it's been just killing me to be without it.

Give us a break here, feel whwatever way you want that is your perogative as it is others to feel whatever way they want, BTW arn't you the guy that posts here periodically about driving at excessive speeds, sometimes pulling a trailer, and you think because you are doing it on an empty road you are any less a risk?

      GROW UP.

      Cheers Pat.

    Let's move on, shall we?

Who is going to the Philly show? Wish I could be there to buy a round, or two.

"You" can be there for the round or two. Just give us your CC number. ;-)

Well, I just saw a similar post by Loosh over at NASIOC. I guess it's for real!

You know what, I understand Mike's point and I agree with Steve's perspective too. I feel bad for the families who lost their boys, but that was just a dumb and reckless thing to do. Those of us who have lived through our dumb mistakes should feel lucky, and move on. Those kids took a huge risk, and paid the price.

Loosh made a formal announcment over in other place that he took delivery yesterday of a Java Black FXT.

      Cheers Pat.

does the "other place" get the official word first? I am deeply hurt. ;-)

Got my first chance with it and bad weather. Tues was about 1" of snow on top of refrozen streets from the previous day's ice storm. It really did well. The stops with the antilock brakes on the ice were dead straight and although I had woderful experiences last year in ice and snow in the WRX wagon you never know... Who am I trying to fool here, it's a Subaru. That may be the nice thing about the somewhat lower torque at low rpms. Starting in bad conditions is very smooth.

Sorry work was super busy so I didn't get to post, I thought the pic would say it all until I remembered that no one here has ever met Riley dog.

So yea yesterday I rolled out and got myself a Java Black FXT. I have a buyer for the GT too, which ought to go through next week. I got the car for invoice + the 1.9% financing.

It is the fastest car I have ever piloted. and that's under 4000 rpm too.

I am very happy, having spent my first full work day in it, 'twas awesome. Suspension is quite taut already, but Cobb bars and 17" Rota SDRs will be inbound shortly. The SDRs for the better weather of course. Maybe STi springs, but I'm not sure she'll need them. I'd like to have a shakedown autocross run without them first and then decide. Well of course if the SDRs look too alone in the wells I'll pretty much have to for appearance's sake.

So anyway WOOT! Sorry to not respond. I waited as long as I could then had to hit the road. You all were snoozin this morning.

cobb bars ...plural? how hard is that front swaybar to install, anyway?

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
just like the WRX, you have to drop the sub-frame. :(

    -mike
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
that was kinda what I was thinking. I advised Dennis something along those lines a few weeks ago in fact and I think he just bought a rear 20mm instead of the even bigger rear and bigger front combo.

Congratulations, tis about time, Bet wifey is glad you finally made up your head:-).

SDRs are very nice rims, do you plan on keeping the RS rims you had.

      Cheers Pat.

I was able to get a 6 Cd changer finally, it was installed today, I had them add line out adaptors so I could get my 4 channel amp hooked up,,I have Infinity Kappa speakers in front and straight Infinity in the rear.

I would have installed myself but it is to damn cold and I did not want to wait until it warmed up.

The set up sounds every bit as good as the JVC unit I had, this is much handier, the JVC was a double din Cd cassette combo and I had a 12 disc changer in the rear, but it was a PITA as it took up space in the rear.
It is also hard to hide things in the back of a wagon, plus you to crawl in back to change CDs.

      Cheers Pat.

about "My.Subaru.com". I checked it out today and they thought all issues had been addressed. Can you please provide your VIN and the issue at the contact us page at Subaru.com? Please add a note to Denise that you are the customer that Patti spoke to her about. She'll check into it for you. She's the manager of the e-mail team.

    Thanks!

    nice new wheels!

So, how does it feel to get off the fence? Get the feeling back in your legs yet? ;-)

    -Ian
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Wow, congrats Loosh! The Fence was crowded, I guess. OK, who pushed him off? :o)

OCD Black, wow. The roof rails actually look best with black or silver, but you are BRAVE to choose black with all the salt on Baltimore roads.

    Chat's starting...

Cool, glad you finally got set up. It's nice having 6 CDs in-dash. That's awesome you were able to use line-out converters (LOC) and an amp, it will sound good.

On thing that's a pain about the stock head unit is that its equalization varies with volume. Once you crank it past 6-7, it starts ramping the bass down to avoid distortion. I could never get it loud and still have enough bass. My main problem was the speakers I added -- they took a lot of power to drive. If you can adjust the gain on the LOC so that you're happy below 6-7 you should be OK. Having an external amp helps a lot too! If I kept the factory radio in, I would surely have added an amp.

We just liked it. Everyone and their dog has the silver one.

Cobb bars- hmmmmmm.....so the front bar is a mofo PITA, huh? Mebbe the Sti 20mm then afterall. Save some money too, for tint in the rear or something.

RS rims- incorrect offset for the Forester, and since the GT buyer is giving me good money for it despite the gaskets, I'm giving him the rims to make it up. It's better than being 2k in the hole on trade.

    Pat- you got that right!

Rota SDRs- not ordered yet, since I have a couple months yet.

The Fence- the GT overheated 4x on the way to and back from an errand to DC on Tuesday; I was in no mood to sell a blowed up GT, I had to jump off the fence.

OCD- if there's anyone in Baltimore who can keep a black car, it's me. Got my Porter Cable ROS, Griot's polish and wax, Meguiar's wash, chamois...
  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
Just a heads up -- the only weak part about my wife's 03 Forester is that it dents real easily. She parked under an oak tree at work last year, and got 5-6 dents in the hood and roof from acorns. Doors dent easily too. So watch where you park! The sheet metal seems real thin. The paint is holding up great, however (as is the rest of the car).

    Loosh,

As soon as it's convenient, get some Klasse synthetic wax and detail your new ride. Go the extra mile and use the sealant gloss too.

You and your Forester's paint will thank you 6 years from now. It's kept mine immaculate (ask the local Bay Area Crew).

Trying to decide on color for the SDRs now. The Subydude website shows all the colors. I was thinking Silver (OEM look) or the smoke steel grey.

Kirsten, if you can believe this, insists that the car needs 35% tint all around but for the front windows and SDRs in Gunmetallic finish! The plus is that color ought to match the JBP nicely, and she gets points for having a cohesive look in mind. It's just I've never been a fan of really dark rims. *shrug* Guess it would look good in an SR-71 kind of way.

    GT was overheating? Headgaskets?

but (believe it or not), I was at the mall buying Emily an adjustable height basketball goal. Good winter sale on outdoor equipment. Of course with a foot of snow on the ground, it will not get unboxed for a while. She loves B-ball, so maybe I will get more exercise this Spring as well.

With all of the Foresters, we're going to have to have a big East Coast meet.

I'll probably go with the STi swaybar because the Cobb's are probably overkill for my needs. I'm undecided about wheels because the OEM looking /UK OEM option Speedline 2116's I fancied are no longer available at Tire Rack.

    Woot!

    Hey now!!
From another Forester Forum (not nabisco)

"PRODRIVE-USA has joined our little family of aftermarket vendors, and will be presenting deals for the Foresters, and later on this year, will be providing XT power packages for you POWER HUNGRY XT's.

PS - Dan @ Prodrive-USA has assured me that anything you can find in the U.K. website is available for the U.S. market, and he'll be happy to work with us to get whatever item you want."

  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
And no, I'm not talking about the '60s TV sitcom!

From 2000-02 I tried in vain to source a Prodrive WR Sport backbox for my SF, having seen them in the UK. No luck. Prodrive-USA tried to get me to buy a GC backbox and either live with it being about 3/4" too short or move the hangers.

So once again, the XT leads the push to recognize the Forester as a performance car. I have got to find a way to get myself into one this year...

whinings over at the other board are starting to grow louder about their premium being increased 100%
Something about the STi being re-categorized by the Isurance industry. Wondering what effects it will have on the XTs, Baja Turbos, and the upcoming Legacy turbo lines.

Dennis, you should've pounced on those wheels while you had a chance! Anything closeout is going to go quick. :(

Loosh: Yeah, I'm not a big fan of dark rims either. However, your FXT is black so they won't look as obvious as with other lighter colors. Also, tinting is a must. All that great outbound visibility makes for a nice greenhouse in the summer.

Dave: Interesting. I wonder how many STis there are on the roads to justify the premium increase.

    Ken
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
prodrive-usa.com now shows the Forester (and all Scoobys).

The UK site shows the Prodrive 7 with a 48 offset and the US site has the P7 as a 52 offset.

    -Dennis

edit: Ken the thefts probably had something to do with that as well. STi's are even being stolen from dealer lots in NJ.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Cool Loosh.

Tell the buyer that new gaskets aren't all that expensive. In one thread someone changed both plus some belts and some other stuff and the entire tab was under $1600.

I wonder if the TSB will cover it anyway. Well, now it's up to him.

Dennis, Frank, and Lucien can attend the first official "My Forester is Faster than juice's" meet. :o)

If Ed joins I'll have to cave in to the pressure!

STi doubled, but why do you think Subaru under-rated the output of the XT? I told ya it was a smart move...

XT just knocked the CR-V off the C&D 5Best Trucks. Subaru shoots, SCORE!

expensive Prodrive rims and pothole ridden urban sales driving are the best mix. The cost of the rotas is attractive if a wheel needs to be replaced due to curbing or an encounter with some prehistoric sinkhole
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
it's give and take though Lucien...the rotas are more fragile so they're more likely to bend. or break!

    ~c
  • nygregnygreg Member Posts: 1,936
If the STI doubles, I would expect the Evo to double also.

Steve - like your basketball net, we have a trampolene that the girls got for Christmas that is waiting for spring.

Loosh; congrats on your new set of wheels....really great looking! (nice dog also...Dina saw the picture and started wagging her tail! She wants a date!!!)
Dennis, the Prodrive 7 could be referring to the PFF7s.
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
although I got the impression that the SDRs were pretty robust.

If not, then I suppose it would be the OZ SLs in Silver. Ain't much else.
  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
XT just knocked the CR-V off the C&D 5Best Trucks.

Awesome, I was hoping for that. You could tell they loved the car in their breif road test.

Klasse products: I second that recommendation. It's the best wax I have used. I have been doing my WRX every 6 months, and it looks brand new.

Wheels: I vote for silver with a black car. Next to black paint, gunmetal looks dirty (like silver with brake dust), as does bronze.

Some of the Prodrives are very robust wheels. Any of their 17" wheels in the 20-21 lb range are tough (a tad heavy, but tough). Rotas are cheaper, and the SDR comes in at 18-19 lbs (depending on paint color), but they're also more likely to get damaged. So it's a tossup. Still SDRs (and Tarmac II) were on my short list when I was shopping a few months back.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
What Baltimore calls "roads" are pretty beat up, lots of pot holes, dips, bumps, uneven surfaces, etc. I'd really think twice about low profile tires.

Under those circumstances, a taller sidewall will "handle" the bumps better.

If you lived and worked in the suburbs, that's a different story. But don't you live in town? Deliver wine in alleys and stuff?

So then, the GT might be under-rated too.

Yea but If I'd bought a Legacy turbo the 17s would be standard. You have a point though.... SSRs anyone?
