Well, I think I am going to fall off the fence and I wasn't even on it! I just got my car insurance bill today. That combined with car payments, property tax, and the general hassle of moving/parking three cars in a tight driveway has convinced me we need to get back down to two cars. As much as I love the WRX, I just don't get to drive it enough to justify the cost. So I think I will put that up for sale soon over on nabisco (only has 7000 miles on it and I should come out way ahead of the loan payoff). Then, we'll sell or trade my wife's Forester and hopefully move her into a GT Ltd with auto trans. Actually, if the 2.5i Ltd is adequate, that would be good too. I'm just thinking the GT will satisfy my sports car cravings (sounds like I may not even miss the WRX based on reports of the GT!). The more I read reviews about the new Legacy models, the more excited I get. They sound like real winners.

I'd love a new Outback, but am too attached to my broken-in 02 LLB wagon. It's at that ripe stage of newness and usability, and I plan to keep it for many years to come.

So, a couple months and $800 Subaru bucks from now, I should have rotated the family Subaru fleet! Hopefully by then, prices will settle out onthe new Legacys.

...but it does reinforce the feeling that I made the right choice between the 2. And you'll love the new Leg, I'm sure.

New wheels and tires are on, yay!! But I haven't had a chance to evaluate them yet. Looks good, though.

WWP (worthless without pictures) or something like that :)

Maybe it's TWWP (total waste without pictures)?

Anyone else notice the Outback banner ad on the front page? Looks pretty beefy, eh?

Craig: GT would be the smart buy - fill several needs and wants.

Loosh: c'mon, get those pics up! If you don't, I know where you live! ;-)

I took a couple shots this evening but the car is a mess... Brood X, thine enemy is my windscreen! Let me try to make time for a quick wash tomorrow.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yeah, it's nasty, I get splattered all the time. 6 more weeks of this infestation, yuck! I use my leaf blower every day to clear off the patio.

Yesterday, the Jeep got rear-ended, fortunately, no visible damage.

Today, stopped in traffic, a 4runner comes barrelling into my Legacy. Trunk, bumper, fender, all smashed.

Both go to the body shop tomorrow. Me too, to make sure the aches & pains aren't serious.

wow, what awful luck. I'm glad you are healthy-- doubt the checkup will find anything but soreness.

Loosh, what's with ImageStation? I just put an album up there last week without any issues. Does this work for everyone?

Ouch * 3 (including yourself). Did the driver get ticketed? Hopefully they had insurance. Take it easy the next few days, and hopefully it's just a little soreness and nothing else.

Ken - Why would you not be a member of the IMBA and pay invoice?

    Yay for Loosh!!

Jim - Good luck with everything. :-(

Bum luck, Jim. Hope you're feeling OK.

Dennis: it takes 6 months for IMBA to kick in.

Do you qualify for the Subaru discount with a basic individual membership?
  • lilbluewgn02lilbluewgn02 Member Posts: 1,089
Rob, yes you do...got my WRX thru imba basic membership
  • rob_mrob_m Member Posts: 820
What is a realistic discount through the program?
  • dcm61dcm61 Member Posts: 1,567
IMBA price is dealer invoice (which includes an advertising fee in at least the Penn Jersey region) minus any dealer or customer incentives.

    DaveM
  • hypovhypov Member Posts: 3,068
actually, minus any dealer and/or customer incentives and less SubieBucks, if any, upto $2000.

brian, I am an imagestation member (and cookied on this machine) and I see the picture and can follow the link.

however like Lucien I haven't had much luck linking to imagestation albums in quite some time. sorry to be obtuse, but what specifically did you do within imagestation to get that URL? --put into an album, not in an album (storage bin), linked to preview, linked to original image, what?

    Stupid Question...

Does this IMBA Membership = Subie discount apply nationwide. I live in LA, Calif...

Sounds like a very good deal. Besides we have 2 MTBs and 1 road tadem :).
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
it's an awesome deal, assuming you can wait 6 months before purchasing.

  • salbaby1972salbaby1972 Member Posts: 165
I read the FAQ. All except Hawaii... Aloha I guess. I'll sign up tonite. I can wait 6 months, we'll I'll have to b/c the wife would kill me! We just got a car last August, plus we're waiting on the NAV.
  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
Exactly. If I had the IMBA membership, I would have done it. And I don't want to wait 6 months. It's my bad -- lack of planning, too short on patience. And I mountain bike too!

    Next time, I'll be ready.

  • bat1161bat1161 Member Posts: 1,784
The IMBA waiting period of 6 months works for me as well. My wife and I want to wait until January before going for a new car. While that is 6 months away, at least I hope to have made up my mind between the OB XT and the LegacyGT LTd. I'll have to settle to lots of road tests between now and then:-).

I arrived home at a little past 3am on Sunday morning, thanks to the intense storms in the nations mid section. We witnessed a lightning strike on a parked jetliner that shut down O'Hare for an hour, plus flew thru thunder clouds that lit up the interior of our plane like a strobe flash for most of the hop between Chicago and NY. Rarely have I experienced anything as intense as Saturday night. Figured we would be sleeping in the terminal for sure...

Jim: Sorry to hear of your bad car days. Hope your back feels better as well.
Ken: Hope your trip went better. No, I had to cancel the 'fibber meet' due to illness and workload. I am off to the Dr. this afternoon, still fighting this respiratory bug.

Jim - Sorry to hear about your rough week. Hope you're feeling better and there's no injuries.

IMBA discount is what I'll be using for my new GT. Just waiting to drive the different tranny options for final decision. Sounds like the GT's are starting to show on lots, hopefully they'll hit the Seattle area soon!

  • rob_mrob_m Member Posts: 820
Sounds like a no-brainer, so I signed up today. Will keep me from buying my GT LTD Sedan until December. I know I can wait till then ... I think I can wait till then ... I hope I can wait till then ....
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
I used the IMBA discount for my F-XT. They didn't have what I wanted in stock, so I was able to order one. All invoice pricing, minus any applicable rebates/discounts. Was treated like royalty at the dealership as well. Would highly recommend it for anyone considering a Subie, especially those that'll be going for more than invoice (at least early on).

The regular $25/year membership gets you the eligibility. Well worth it IMO.

    -Brian
  • hypovhypov Member Posts: 3,068
note though that the dealership is not oblige to honor the discount for specific models, but I think that case is unlikely.

Yup, saw it today, my lil' bro just picked up a 2004 Legacy L/35th sedan, silver, manual tranny! :-)

Some of you might recall he joined and posted for a while, I think his handle was TeddyBear, something like that.

He was driving my dad's beater '92 Taurus that had just been a money pit, so we finally talked dad into trading it in. $500 wholesale and they were being *very* generous because the A/C didn't work and it had some body damage.

The Legacy was just under $18k, unbelievable value. I did suggest my dad get a new 2005 Outback and give his 2001 to my brother, but he could not resist a bargain, plus Jose Luis wanted a manual tranny (quick learner!).

For the price the competition could not match the moonroof, 16" alloys, and AWD, so he didn't take long in shopping.

The silver looks pretty sharp and the rims' color kinda matches, something I hadn't noticed before. It's the same color as my sister's Forester, but somehow it looks better all monotone and with those matching rims.

I took a picture but the quality was poor, and it was dark, so he promised to e-mail one to me tomorrow, if so I'll post it.

    juice,

That's great. $18K is a steal! So yet another in the Teixeira clan rides a Subie!

    Ken
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
We need one of those "Subaru Parking Only" signs. There were 3 in the driveway, plus mine visiting. When we take my wife's car it's still yet another Subie.

    Hi,
I'm new to boards..... though have read lots of good things..
Bought my first newbie subie Friday... almost a week old!!!!!!
04 35th anniv. manual wagon in white.....
Its all about the wheels. They are sooooooo hot, almost a little too pimpy for me. Anyway, got a great deal as is available to all US peeps, just over 19K.
The car is a dream coming from my used 94 GMC w/t 1500. My truck was a manual also but had no power even with a v6 and 19mpg. The car is quirky and I love that. Reminds me of my old BMW bike in its funny idle and charismatic engine etc. Exterior and interior are classic and exquisite. Gripes..... no telescoping wheel and poor armrest location.

I think the 05 manual will be a great value too, and more robust as the technology increases. That being said, the 04 with the WHEELS, classic lines, bells and whistles(power everything, dual moonroof, foglights, leather wheel/shift, excellent fabric and identical engine specs..) is a contender. I LOVE Subaru right now... cantcha tell...

Frank's right. I've gone the ACA route as I don't bike but have been known to paddle.

Dunno, mike, how many in your family? We currently have 5, or 7 if you include past purchases.

frog: cool. Yeah, I was just commenting on how nice my brother's rims are, he just got a silver sedan. We have a 2002 wagon, but back then it didn't have the moonroof, the power seat, the body color trim and mirrors, and those 16" rims! Congrats!

So the factory estimate for 0-60 is 6.2. I'm a little surprised because for the Outback XT it's 5.9, and the OB is heavier. The GT has the same gearing but smaller diameter tires, so it should be quicker, not slower.

    -juice
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Just saw that in Edmunds review they estimate the Outback XT at 6.5 seconds, so never mind.

I did see one source that listed 5.9 for the OB XT, though.

    Thanks, Steve.

We pick them up tonight! Then we head over to the beach tomorrow to settle on our condo.

That means I'll miss the chat, unless the cable company can activate broadband on the same day we move in (doubtful!).

His name is Christopher, even though I lobbied hard for the spelling Kristopher (names with a "K").

You know what's funny? I think I actually preferred Pat's custom home-made grille over that one.

You ought to manufacture them Pat.
