My Veracruz will be ready Monday evening or Tuesday morning, which means I'll get to drive the Hyundai Tucson loaner for 4 more days. It's HORRIBLY underpowered....but a pretty good ride overall.

How long are you planning on keeping the car? If only a few years go with the Altima. If you keep it until they cart you off to the nursing home I’d say the Acura. Sounds like the interior is important to you so I’d say dump the rest.
The plan is to keep the car until it turns to rust, or I do. Was actually thinking of this slogan, for Acura, when test driving the TLX, " The Acura TLX....so quiet, so comfortable, so luxurious.... you wouldn't mind being buried in one. "
Most of these midsize midlevel sedans I've looked at have interiors that are lacking in quality. Now, the Altima was much nicer at its trim level. It was saying buy me initially, but it felt a bit "nervous" on the expressway.
I accidentally came upon a Kia Stinger review about an hour ago. Maybe a plant by g.g? LOL.
It sounded and looked pretty good. Standard leather seats and a 2.0 turbo. With dealer incentives would put the price around that of the base TLX. Don't know about the hatchback though.
Did I miss where you tried an Accord? I mean, that’s the go-to in that segment.
As has been discussed recently, if getting a Stinger, get the bigger lease incentive and then refinance. Thought I read it can be had in the mid $20k range that way??
Accord? Never really thought about it. That Acura TLX I looked at probably just 1k or 2k more with incentives.
Leasing poses a lot of questions. Haven't ruled it out.
Might as well try the Civic while you're at the Honda store. It's bigger than the Accord used to be and seems to have a very good reputation.

As such, I needed to replenish yesterday. Off to Costco I went. I had gone there a couple of weeks ago for soap, their salmon (which I love) etc.
Drove by yesterday, stopped in for gas, noticed a LONG line to get in. Not sure why....maybe because of Good Friday and Easter this weekend.
But, there’s a Target next door and a Sam’s Club next door to them...all within 75-100 yards of each other. Went to Target. No line. Picked up a few perishables like bananas and lettuce, stuff that you have to buy a pallet of at either Costco or Sam’s Club.
I had a coupon for Sam’s Club. Pay $45 for a membership and get a $45 credit on your first purchase. Went in. No line (although they did have the barriers up to keep the in and out lanes separate. Had a sign stating they weren’t allowing more than 100 people in at a time. Went to Customer Service, got my membership card. Found what I was looking for (laundry detergent, vitamin water, fresh salmon, and some other misc). Self serve checkouts were quick and their scanners actually worked very well. Much was similar to Costco, so I didn’t understand the line at one, and not the other.
The head scratcher, instead of just going to Costco, because of their lines, I had to go to another place, Sam’s. I was exposed to more people in more places. Doesn’t make any sense.
Not sure what Costco’s policies are right now, but they don’t seem to make sense, and I may have found a new discount store to replace them (although I do like their fuel prices).
After 6 months there, the NYC subway system's employees went on strike causing tremendous havoc and causing over a million workers to be laid off. The Unemployment Insurance Division was overwhelmed with applications for UI. The Governor had waved the 7 day waiting period and the managers of all the UI offices in the State were required to send 1 of their top Claims Examiners to Manhattan for training as to how to investigate claims and claimants and to approve or deny claims based on investigations.
I was picked by my superior to go. After 1 day of training, I was assigned to the Jamaica, Queens office. I was the only Claims Examiner In that office authorized to process claims, approve the 7 day waiting period waiver, investigate the legitimacy of the claim and then authorize payments.
When I arrived there, there were over 10,000 claims sitting in the office in need of approval or denial of each and every claim - with hundreds coming in every day. We did not have computers in those days and everything had to be done manually. I had 2 assistants to help me wade through the mess and organize the claims by date applied and to ensure paperwork was complete.
Even though the strike only lasted a few weeks, it took me 3 months to get those claims approved. I had an office manager who required 1000 claims processed per 8 hour day - not counting 8 hours of overtime I had to put in until 12 midnight 7 days a week.
After assessing the mess, I took several shortcuts in order to get these claimants paid, needless to say, so I was approving claims with only minor investigations, if any.
I quit 2 months later when my fellowship for my Master's Degree came through, but I was exhausted and frustrated for 3 months.
Even with computers now, imagine how they can process millions a week, if not more.

And yes, the landing/take off training is super important.
Even Scotty agrees....
As I walked out of my Condo, the air hit me - it was so hot, I walked right back in to my Condo. I looked up the temps and it was 88 degrees at 10:00 AM and now it's 90 - and it isn't the hottest part of the day yet. They are expecting record temps in the mid-90's. I really don't remember temps being this high this early in the spring. Good grief - I hope this is no omen as to how hot it is going to be this summer. UGH!

Still, you might try a Stinger with the turbo 4, you might find it adequate. The Stinger isn't exactly burning up the sales charts, so-as graphicguy discovered-there are some real deals to be had- especially if you lease one and then immediately purchase it.

The beauty of Passover baking, you generally end up with one of two situations:
(1) Your baked good looks delicious, but is so dense that it has become unfit for human consumption.
(2) Your baked actually tastes delicious, but looks unimpressive and crumbles into a million pieces of you look straight at it.

Also, I found that visibility out the back is compromised.
With the gigantic lease incentives available, you might be able to do a lease, then buy it out. Lots of people are taking that approach.

So, I'm wondering why do police departments invest so heavily in SUVs when they cannot adequately do a highway pursuit? Perhaps these gas hogs are best suited for snowy climes but not sunny California or Florida.
Cops in my town have mostly switched over to Explorers I think, with a Tahoe here and there.

The 147-mph Hyundai Sonata.
Way back in 2007 a Sonata was clocked doing 147.
"At 5:47 a.m. on Sunday, May 21, [2007] the freeway — the Loop 101 — was empty, so empty that before he knew it his rental, a 2006 Hyundai Sonata V-6, was going 128 mph. Eight minutes later he was clocked at 147 mph, which works out to 82 mph over the limit. He didn't know it, but speed cameras had taken pictures of him as he blew by.
But wait just a minute. Is a Sonata even capable of going 147 mph?
That was the question an Arizona newspaper put to Car and Driver soon after the story broke. If a Sonata could not go 147, then the speed-monitoring equipment was suspect, and so were all the citations."
They have been about a 1/2 hour long.
It was pretty local to some of you, even I recognize some of the signs from travelling down that way.
Amazing how long this GM keeps going.
Took the day off looking at cars. Today was run errands day. The little Tucson 4 banger loaner drives fairly well once it gets going. But it sure groans and protests when pressed.
Scotty mentioned not liking those CVT transmissions, but he also commented on the wisdom of having 8 and 9 speed automatic transmissions, "more things to go wrong". Have these transmissions been around long enough to have a good idea about their reliability?

FWIW, that was the car I traded in for my '09 Genny. Turned 13K miles on the drive to Ohio to get it.

I listened to radio updates as that chase occurred. I thought the chase ended in Covington when the car hit the barrier wall. It was in Cincy next to the football stadium.
Amazing how many lives in other cars that GM almost hit. What did the passenger keep doing with his arm out the window? Was he throwing out stuff?
