Going to present this to my dealer tomorrow, fair deal for X7 40i for 12K/36?

Sticker price (MSRP) of the car = $92,845
    Residual value 55% = $51,064.75

    Incentives $500 lease + 1K Loyalty = ($1,500)
    Adjusted capitalized cost = $81,504
    Depreciation amount. = $30,438.85
    Base payment. =$845.52
    Monthly MF .00118. =$96.17

I don't see the $925 acquisition fee in those numbers.

By mistake I put the acquisition fee in the MSRP. I made the correction.

Sticker price (MSRP) of the car = $91,850
    Residual value 55% = $50,517.50
Negotiated selling price of car = $80,828
    Title & Registration Fees ($1,300) + Acquisition ($925) = $2,225
    Gross capitalized cost = $83,053
    Incentives $500 lease + 1K Loyalty = ($1,500)
    Adjusted capitalized cost = $81,553
    Depreciation amount = $31,035.50
    Base payment = $862.10
    Monthly MF .00118 = $96.23
Base lease payment without NJ Tax = $958.33
Total lease payment with NJ Tax = $1,021.82

This is what I am going to present to the dealer as my offer, can I do better?

I get $1018/mo with your numbers.

I think your rent charge calculation is wrong - my calculator shows $155.84/mo for that.

    (81,553 + 50,517.50) * .00118

I am not get that same amount from my spreadsheet. Not sure how the dealer got 2,913.65 in NJ Sales tax.
    • Sticker price (MSRP) of the car = $92,845
    • Times the residual value percentage = 0.55
    • Residual value = $51,064.75
    • Negotiated selling price of car = $87,274
    • Fees (Gov't + Doc + Reg + Tire + Supl Title + Acq + Window) = $3,148
    • Gross Capitalized Cost = $90,423
    • Incentives = ($1,500)
    • Down payment = $0
    • Adjusted capitalized cost (ACC) = $88,923
    • Depreciation amount (DP) = $37,857.75
    • Base payment. = $1,051.60
    • MF Charge (ACC + DA)* .00118 = $149.60
    • Lease payment w/o Tax = $1,201.20
    • Total lease payment with Tax = $1,280.78 vs $1,320 from dealer.

    List for Fees
    • Window Edge = 199.00

    It seems average.

Sales tax in NJ is collected upfront. To properly calculate the payment, add the tax amount to the adjusted CAP, before calculating the payment. Then, no need to add it later.

Did the dealer verify the MF being used?

@kyfdx - the MF is correct. The dealership sent me screenshots of all their inputs. Is Sale Tax calculated based on depreciation + fee + incentive, correct?

The sales tax is calculated against the sum of the payments (depreciation + rent charge), plus any taxable fees like the dealer fee and acquisition fee. Incentives are also taxed.

If I add the acquisition fee to the selling price, and use .00118 and 55%, I get $1058/mo

I'll check with the dealer. Btw, I forgot to mention I am rolling in NJ Sales tax $3,720.67 (103.35 per month) which is reflected in the 1,166.93.

If that's the case, then I am within $1 of the dealer quote.

Looks pretty good, to be honest.

Have you considered using MSDs to buy down the MF? $8400 of up front money would reduce the MF to .00083, and the payment drops to about $1118/mo. You'll save almost $1800 over the life of the lease, which works out to about a 7% return on the money. And, you'll get the $8400 back when the lease is over.

    ArtofWar347,

I just PM'd you. Are you aware of the lease loyalty program this month with BMW where they make your 1st two payments of your new lease? On the X7, it's up to $1,250/mo. Your profile looks like you have an M3. If so, you'd qualify for it. So, if you kept the current deal you have, your DAS (Due At Signing) would drop to $2,396-1,167=$1,229 (BMWFS kicks in the first payment). Then with two payments of $1,167 free, that's $2,334/36mo = $62/mo, so your effective payment would be around $1100/mo. Still think you can get lower than that tho...

Cap cost would have to be around $72,500 to get that payment.

Ask the dealer what cap cost they are using.

After I pointed out the sale tax was to high, the dealer confirmed there was an error in the sale tax calculation. Here are the corrected terms, going to sign the paperwork this Friday.
    • Sticker price (MSRP) of the car = $92,850
    • Times the residual value percentage = 0.55
    • Residual value = $51,064.71
    • Negotiated selling price of car =$84,029
    • Dealer Fees = upfront
    • Acquisition fee = 925.00
    • Gross Capitalized Cost = $84,954
    • Capitalized Cost Reduction (Incentives + Down Payment) = ($1,500)
    • Adjusted capitalized cost (ACC) = $83,454
    • Depreciation amount (DP) = $32,389.54
    • Lease payment w/o Tax = $1,058.44
    • Total lease payment with Tax = $1,137.90
If I factor in the BMW two Statement credits, my lease payments will be $999.64 or $1,074.68.

Thank-you to everyone for all your input.

If I add the acquisition fee to the selling price, and use .00118 and 55%, I get $1058/mo

Confirm the MF and the adjusted cap cost the dealer is using for their quote.

I was offered a deal today. 2020 X7 xDRIVE40i. MSRP $74,846. 36/7.5, Zero down, MF 0.00118, RV 57%, zip 10128. monthly lease $963 and $1,200 upfront inc first month. Good deal?

Cap cost would have to be around $72,500 to get that payment.

Ask the dealer what cap cost they are using.

Use this link to research pricing:

The adjusted cap cost is $68791

From that, I conclude the MF is marked up, even though you say it isn't; that cap cost would result in a payment of $857/mo.

Can you obtain a copy of the lease worksheet from the dealer?

I also get 857, but was assuming that was pretax. I guess the adjusted cap cost should include tax so you are probably right. I have asked for the lease worksheet. Will revert.

The adjusted cap cost should include everything you aren't paying up front (taxes, fees, etc.).

FYI, in NY we recommend you pay the sales tax up front, when you sign the paperwork. Through a quirk in NY laws for sales tax, if you add the tax to the cap cost, it gets taxed again.

So dealer gave the number pre-tax. so $68791 is selling price, while adj cap cost is $73026 (acq/cap adds of $1060 and tax of $3175). What do you think of the deal?

Only $500 or so higher than what I thought the adjusted cap would need to be, to get the quoted payment.

If you're happy with the discount from sticker, I don't see anything wrong with the deal.

Just an average program on an expensive car.

Agree. This implies an 8% discount to MSRP which is ok but not great. I have seen higher, up to 12% for X7s. I will push for a lower selling price. Keep you posted.

There may be an incentive that covers $500 of the first two payments, but no other incentives on this model.

Hey all. When negotiating the final price, do you negotiate off the MSRP, the "Selling Price" or Adjusted Cap Cost? Thanks for your help!

You are always negotiating off the MSRP - whatever number you and the dealer agree upon becomes the selling price.

Any taxes or fees you don't pay up front are added to the selling price to get the adjusted cap cost.

I was trying to build and price X7 and I tried it on BMW website and then on Edmunds. On BMW website only (not on Edmunds), if I pick certain color such as Carbon Black Metallic it forces me to add M sport package, luxury seating package and full leather package, which adds $9650 to base MSRP. Any idea if I can get the color without those extra packages?

It's just a guess, but I'd say no.

Does anyone know if there are additional June rebates? I was told by a dealer that in June BMW may release better deals. Any news on this?

@koby14 - BMW dealers are running low on specific spec 3 series, X3, X4, X7, and X M. BMW has stopped taking any individual orders on any BMW X series until the South Carolina production is back to full operations after being closed due to Covid-19. I doubt there will be any June incentives.

Deduct $0.25/mile from the calculated residual, to account for the current mileage.
