the other possiblity is that you were accelerating harder then and now that you know what the car is capable of and what it isn't, you don't stomp it quite so often.
25mpg is remarkable.

Think about how cutting edge (literally) the XT was way back in 1985. The wedge look has been imitated by almost everyone.

Thanks, Mike!
"This series' hallmark is its styling, designed to evoke the image of the aerodynamic shape of a hawk or eagle. The Alcyone's sweeping wedge shape and the fully rounded curves enabled this model to achieve the world's lowest air resistance level, 0.29 CD (coefficient of drag)."

Happy Birthday Serge! And... another February birthday...
Bob
Sorry Bob, you're fired. I'm hiring Michael as the new Official Subaru Crew Art Director (please let him know of his new position). You can stay on as a Consultant, but only if you work Pro-Bono. ;-)
Check it out - gold rims, rally style. Hood scoop. Look at those ground-hugging ground effects! The side markers, coffee can exhaust, and large top spoiler are very "import scene" accurate, so bonus points for those.
Plus, his name is Michael. That's second only to Dave.

Kinda late for this now but, the SWRT store has a children's line when you're ready to dress him in WRC gear. :-)

Because I normally read this forum at work, I lurk far too often, but thought I'd give an update on my Sube.
2000 Wintergreen OB
Just over 30K miles.
23.5 MPG, 60% highway, 40% city. I usually drive as fast as I can on the freeway, averaging 80 MPH or so, so I think my mileage is pretty good.
Not a single problem, except one speaker losing adhesion from the base, reglued and is fine. I know, I'm cheap, would've been a good time to upgrade, but I just bought a house (I live in the Bay Area) and money is scarce now.
Haven't had the Air/Fuel Ratio recall done, because I don't want to ruin a good thing. Can people relate experiences?
I really love driving my Sube. Couple of weeks ago, all the rain made for a muddy lot next to my Park & Ride lot, so I enjoyed some great AWD drifts. Then spent hours cleaning everything, but it was worth it!
Thanks to all who post regularly, I get lots out of this forum. My apologies for not participating more often.
-Brett
You just missed a great chat, Brett. It was hard to type fast enough to keep up!
I found out something interesting - did you folks know the EPA highway test cycle never exceeds 56 mph? How real-world is that?
-juice
-mike
If they had tested my OB @ 56mph, it would have been 54mph. My speedo is -2mph against the supposed actual (GPS).
What effects the variance will have?
Do they test a number of cars and then average off?
-Dave
I don't know if the EPA uses the actual speedo, or a dyno on a simulated drive. I think the latter. I'm sure they correct for speedo error, though.

Anybody know the details?

Also, the weather is nice (68-86F), sounds like aerodynamics drag is completely unaccounted for. The city tests hit 56mph (huh? you can't go 35 in DC), and the highway tests hit 60mph (65-80 is more like it).
Top it off, they just artibrarily reduce their results by 10% city, 22% highway. I guess this is supposed to cover aerodynamic drag and other real world conditions, but it's certainly not the same across the board.
Your tax dollars at work.

The city test seems reasonable with stop-and-go built into the test. The highway test is the one that seems a little dated.

Last time we drove to NC the 2 guys in the Montero and amigo drafted me, they increased their mpg to about 15-16mpg (they usually get 10-12)
The rule for drafting is you need to have the major surface of your vehicle withing 2.5x the height of the vehicle you are drafting. So for a big-rig you should be about 25-30 feet from your windshield to the back of the truck

Hope you don't get rocks kicking up to crack the windsheild glass. Of course you are so close it would hit your bull bar!

Then again, I have 2 '99s.....the OB revs a lot more freely and has better throttle response than the GT. I don't know if this is because the OB got wrung out for dear life early in its life, or that the previous GT owner had that silly JCSports intake, and I missed something putting the stocker back together.
Head Gasket problems in '99s beginning to show up on i-club.
I was hoping I'd dodged a bullet.
Packed 5 (including myself) 'subearu' sized guys (avg of 160#) into my Outback and headed downtown for the show. Probably the most weight I've had in it. Acceleration was affected a bit, but I didn't think it was fighting to get out of it's way. I think it performed well.
On to the show!
First off, I'll be going on a Tuesday next year. It was extremely busy yesterday at the show. Very hard to take pictures with people walking in front of you. :P
The new Forester is nice. Can't really compare the back seat to the old since I haven't sat in the back seat of an old one. But, the new one didn't seem that bad. They had 2 WRX's - both with the hood's up and the intercoolers already beaten up. Boy does that Legacy GT sedan look nice in silver (make sure to look my comment in the Photo Gallery). The Baja passthrough thingy is just a small oval opening. I brightened that picture a bit to show the detail of the opening more.
Took a look at the Oddesey per my wife and wasn't sure what all the fuss is about. Sure it's got the "magic" 3rd bench in the rear. And it's roomy. But, the Mazda MPV didn't seem that bad either. (remember, I haven't driven either of these - this is just purely based on my observation at the autoshow) Liked the actual window on the sliding doors of the MPV. The new BMW 7 series is cool looking, but the inside is pretty plain, now that they moved things to that single joystick thingy (they even had 4 kiosks on display that you could demo the thing with {and it was in a minimizable Microsoft window!}). Skipped Chevrolet, Chrysler, and couple of others due to the crowds. We'll probably cover those at the Milwaukee show.
Also, I'll try to get additional photos (of missed details) Saturday at the Milwaukee show.
-Brian
Thanks.
Brian: did you post more details under Future Models? I'll go check.

It began as a few folks wondering what alternate colors would look like on the WRX, since it isn't offered in very many. It mutated into something more... some very good work in there.
-Colin
Colin -- Thanks for the link. Holy cow! Some folks have far too much time on their hands. I got a kick out of seeing all the different colored WRXs and the extra content. The topic just goes on and on. My favorite color was the dark metallic blue/grey a la BMW and the WRX-wing cracked me up!
Ken
Maybe I should turn my Miata into a Mach 5, what do you think?
Some should be submitted to SoA, the coupe especially. But a limo would solve all my problems! Pikachu would get axed by Lutz because it IS an angry kitchen appliance.
My daughter would like the PowerPuff one, but I prefer the Mystery Machine.
Oh, and Wyle E. Coyote finally found a way to catch the Road Runner! :-)
