Not wild about the lack of table service on food (or their food), but it works well for the beer thing. You can buy a couple of ounces of a beer, and if you don't like it, no big deal. Also, it lets you try a lot of different beers, if that's what you want to do. If I liked their beer and/or their food more, I'd go back.

Have been trying all week to pull a @qbrozen and flip an EV. I focused on the big rebates on the Chevy Bolt. No dice. Chevy resale values, on anything but a Camaro or a ‘Vette are just pitiful. Closest I could get to a flip on a leftover 2020 Bolt would have had me $3K+ out of pocket on the flip.

Fun exercise, though.

how did you go about it?
2021 is going to cost the same but have better resale. Do you have costco? What about loyalty? Those add up to $4500 on the Bolt, so only with those will it work.

CAR was the best. I still recall the first issue I found, which weirdly was offered at a bookstore in the small town where I lived - they'd get random British magazines, sometimes the clerk didn't know how to ring it up as there wasn't a USD price on it, and it wasn't coded in. This was 1989, I remember it clearly (I was only in junior high then) The writing was brilliant, and the hot takes on new cars at the back were hilarious. I bought issues regularly for years. Back then I also subscribed to Autoweek, because I liked getting something weekly, and it wasn't expensive. My dad liked to get Hemmings, so I'd read that too.

Today I get the MBCA "Star" and C&D, as the latter was something like $20 for 3 years. Speaking of Brits, I also would pick up Classic & Sportscar, Thoroughbred and Classic Car, and Practical Classics - all excellent.

I prefer cash. especially someplace where they can monkey with your card like a restaurant. And gas stations, notorious for skimmers. Those are 2 places I avoid using a card if at all possible. Plenty of sketchy stores or retail places around too, especially in the city.

They have a good beer selection and I did sample a few before I drew my glass. I might go back just to hang around with a few friends sampling beers but the food won't draw me back.

I’ve got no problem using plastic when I want to but a store that refuses cash won’t have me for a customer. It just reeks of elitism.

I so seldom use cash. I can’t remember the last time I had any coins in my pocket. I use my credit cards all the time so I don’t accumulate any coins.

The few times I use cash it is usually to give the food delivery person cash instead of adding it to my charge card.

I’m sure you’re familiar with the very popular pancake place (3 of them at least) in the Burgh area that doesn’t accept cards. I don’t go their very often but when I do (usually at the request from family members) I have to make sure to take cash. Then there is a popular pizza place that is a spin off of one of the places in Squirrel Hill that is in Son #1’s hood that is also cash only.

Of course these cash only places provide ATM’s for the convenience of their customers. IMO if they cared so damn much about their customers, they’d accept cards. :@ I do my best to stay away from cash only places but sometimes I’m overruled.

just finished my "be the guy" activity for the day. Needed a new gas grill (I have given up on spending a ton of money on parts to rebuild the old one. when the burners rot out, toss it!) so stopped at the store to get one. I learned in the past that assembled ones don't fit in the car, so I have to get a boxed unit (not worth spending to rent the truck). Plus, last assembled one I bought they did wrong, so I had to take it back anyway!

so spent half the afternoon with it spread out on the kitchen floor putting it together. Really on took a phillips screwdriver and a 1/2" socket to put the wheels on. Half the time was trying to figure out the pictograms in the instructions, but overall, not too hard. I could have easily done a 2nd on in about 1/2 the time.

I (gasp) spend a fair amount of time standing in lines in such plebian places as Circle K or 7-11, so have a fair amount of experience standing in line behind a variety of people. That said, people with cash get done more quickly than those who dick around with their various cards.

I carry about $100-$150 in cash in my wallet most of the time except every other Monday when my cleaning lady comes. I always pay her in cash - and when I am short cash, I pay her with a check, which is very rare.

There are so few places that require cash these days. Costco gasoline requires a Visa card and does not accept cash. More and more stores and restaurants will not accept cash because they don’t want to keep large sums of money on hand with our felonious predators increasing each year who prey on cash businesses.

The two places I mentioned charge more than their completion because they can get it due to them being a notch or two above their competition.

The pizza shop guy thinks he’s the cats meow and I guess he is because a lot of people think his pizza is a good bit better than his competition and are willing to pay his prices. A while back Son #1 said he and a few of his neighbors got to talking about this pizza shop and they all agreed his pizza was on the high side. One of his neighbors said, “damn his pizza is expensive but damn it’s really good too compared to the other pizza shops”.

A fair number of years ago I was at a Target store when they had their annual sale on cleaning supplies and equipment. They were busy as all get out. When I got up to the register and paid, with cash – in those days most people did pay cash – the cash drawer on the register was stuffed. I mean stuffed with bills. Apparently they were so busy no one was collecting the overflow of cash. I looked up and down the line of check out stations, and there were about 20 of them, all open, all with lines.

My poor little brain tried to do an estimate of just how much cash I was looking at, overloaded the circuits, and gave up.

I haven’t been to Wendy’s since the COVID-19 thing. But when I went there I went into the store and I know they cheerfully accepted my card. Maybe their policy has changed.

Yes, this exactly. Then you get the folks who would give the cashier More bills than needed because they wanted extra change in quarters for the laundry or some such. Cash is always slower, especially now that all card payments here below a certain limit are tap and go.

Up here there is a chain called No Frills like that except they require a Loonie to free up a cart, which is one worthless Canadian dollar, so only a little bit more than a US quarter.

I would put Target way down on my list of businesses to rob if I were a crook. I won't patronize them, but now long ago I arranged for our scout troop to see the security office of a Target as a field trip. Our friend's son was in charge of security. Even then the capabilities of the cameras in their store was superior. I can only imagine what their systems do now.

I got lucky. The one I bought at HD a few weeks ago I was able to take an assembled unit by taking the lid off. Just made it in.

latest quest at casa stick. Dug the pressure washer out so the wife could do her annual spraying off of the patio set. So that got me energized to dig out the foam cannon I got for Christmas, and give it a try washing the (quite dirty) RDX. Well, turns out, not only didn't the connector on the gun not match the PW hose (I was somewhat expecting that), but there was no kind of adaptor to make them work. Our cheesy little Sun Joe uses a weird size for the hose ends I think. Plus when I took it apart, the fitting was kinda rusty. And the wife was complaining it really didn't have enough oomph to clean the pavers or pool deck.

so, started out looking for a quick release adaptor, ended up searching for a new power washer. Looks like heading to Home Depot tomorrow to buy a Ryobi that has the M22 connector that seems to be what I need. with any luck, the cannon will screw right onto the hose, so I will just get some quick release connectors and be ready to go!

I like to use plastic to maximize rewards, but keep ~$100 on me most of the time, in the crazy thought that maybe I will happen upon a yard sale full of cheap treasures and need to spend it. I also tip delivery drivers in cash, hoping they can pocket it, and sometimes at restaurants too.

In my experience, at a supermarket, it is probably even between cash and card - if someone isn't counting out exact change, and maybe a machine disperses coins . Counting out small bills and coins will flip it in favor of plastic.

I don't like to leave the house without credit cards and cash, usually a couple of hundred in cash "just in case". And there have definitely been occasions where having cash was very advantageous. None recently, but then I don't go to the same kind of places and do the same kind of foolhardy things I used to do.

When I was in business I only took cash or paper checks and I paid all my taxes. I got some funny expressions from young people who I guess didn’t know what cash was.

JR just bought a car that I’ve been tempted to ad to my hooptie fleet for some time. I had the chance to buy one a few years ago for $500 from a local garage but chickened out when the garage guy told me he got it from the owner who broke down in front of his shop and couldn’t afford the repairs. Fixed it would have cost me $1000. I regret not jumping on it.

My wife knew a lady whose husband's family owned a very successful restaurant in the Loop. They were getting a divorce and he was being hard line on everything and fighting over everything. I told her that she should threaten to go to the IRS. When she did she got everything she wanted.

5G is probably the most overhyped technology that I have encountered in my 70 years. And having worked 45+ years in IT, I have encountered a lot of technology and a lot of hype.

USD was worth $1.45 CDN in May 2020.........this year $1.20! I think Because Canada is strong for resources...which are in demand right now.

Here's a $1 bill sonny, here's another, oh I got another and then I have one in my coat pocket, let me find that one........now I have 6 quarters, and let me see let me count out 8 dimes and I have a few nickels in here somewhere....OK, $7.65 and I have a penny in my purse somewhere, ah there oh, and I think one more in my pants pocket.......there you are sonny.
