So, your flag not on the end is just another adder to the fine in PA.

Want to circle back to refrigerators. My sister will be needing to buy one in the next month or two and has asked me for brand recommendations. I know there are lots of opinions about this amongst our community, so I'm asking for folks to share.
They are nice, but she should not get an LG unless she wants to replace one or more compressors for the life of the appliance. This is per the LG service man that did it for us.

I have heard of lots of problems with Samsungs including a report on the Canadian Consumer Show Marketplace. We got a Whirlpool side by side, counter depth fridge at Lowes about 3 or 4 years ago and it seems to be pretty good....the ice maker makes a lot of noise but other than that it seems pretty good. Of course counter depth won't be as big inside, but it works better in certain situations. Ours is white, so they still make white in this model.
I saw this at, I think, Home Depot. I left before he started moving the truck.

It's hard to tell from that picture. I'm pretty sure that is a 6.5' bed on the pickup, not an 8' bed. And he has a toolbox taking up about 2', so only 4.5' available inside the bed, not counting the tailgate. Based on that, yeah, probably 10' sheetrock. Sheetrock is usually 48 inches wide, and on most pickups you have 48 inches between the wheel wells, so he should have been able to lay that sheetrock flat under the tool box. Which would have left him with only a minimal overhang, 2' less that what we see in that picture.
But of course he probably had a real pile of junk in the bed under the toolbox, so there's that.
Occasionally, the 8' bed on my work truck comes in very handy. Not often, but sometimes.
I just had to call the police. There is an AirBnB across the street, and they're having another huge party over there. The street is blocked, people are parking in my driveway, situation out of control. Everyone on the block hates that AirBnB, but there's not much we can do except call the police when it gets out of hand like this.
I have tried before to talk to the property owners, but it's some LLC and they do not give a bleep. They're getting $2,500 for a weekend rental, and that's all they care about.
I've gotta believe that this problem exists at other properties that are run through AirBnB; a little web sleuthing might turn up some strategies to address the problem from the corporate end.
Short of that, wait until the party ends and shine a million candle spotlight into the front window.

No LG or Samsung. Got it.
It’s really a shame as the Samsung fridges are pretty nice units. Huge, flexible inside and energy efficient. The new ones should be better as they moved the ice maker to the freezer which was the biggest issue. The ice makers are so bad they fix them out of warranty due to a class action lawsuit. They did mine. It still freezes up, but no where near as bad. I chip the ice off a few times a month to keep it working.
I had an LG (Kenmore) at the old house. Got 9 trouble free years out of it before selling the house, but I’ve heard nightmares with them too.

I was thinking of a mysterious fire late one night when the place is vacant.
I was trying to find the Marketplace show about Samsung refrigerators and couldn't, but I found this article; Samsung Refrigerators Under Investigation By Consumer Product Safety Commission Unsafe internal temperatures are among the serious issues cited in hundreds of consumer complaints submitted to the CPSC's federal safety database.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has confirmed it is investigating Samsung refrigerators. This news comes five months after CR reported that American consumers submitted 613 complaints involving Samsung refrigerators to the CPSC from January 2019 through December 2021. The analysis was conducted by Consumer Reports’ Product Safety team.
Samsung is the manufacturer with the highest number of complaints during that time frame, due to its refrigerators, according to CR’s analysis of the records publicly available on the CPSC’s SaferProducts.gov database. Since we first published these findings in April 2022, consumers have continued to post complaints about these refrigerators.

I don’t think @henryn wants to check into the Cross Bar Hotel.
Please don’t. My dad spent the last 10 years of his career as an arson investigator. Most of the time that meant looking into dumpster fires set by kids, but he had a case where the perp set fire to his garage and torched his classic car (I think it was a Corvette).
Anyway, he was arrested in Alberta and my dad had to fly up and coordinate with the RCMP, then drive home the other vehicle - a full size Bronco. I believe he was extradited and convicted.
Trust me, I'm not going to do anything blatantly illegal. I have no desire to spend the remainder of my life in prison. I really would like to find something that could alleviate this situation, within the bounds of the law, but there doesn't appear to be anything. I have talked to all of the neighbors, and we're all in agreement, but no one has any good ideas.
I call the police whenever it gets out of hand, but all they do or can do is tell them to move the cars that are blocking the street or driveways. And 30 minutes later, they're back just like before the police showed up.
@henryn
This is a really bad situation and I feel bad for you. Like was said the only thing you can do is call the police and voice a complaint to Air BNb or it could also be VRBO (you can find the listing online I’m sure).
Perhaps also a call/email to the local councilman or something as well.
I’m sure I told it but years ago my Grandfather got stuck living next to a very (beyond) dilapidated home and the councilman and eventually mayor got it torn down.

About the appliances, Whirlpool. Son and DIL are planning ahead to replace appliances in their house where they've been for 2 years. They've looked at CR and (of course) it says Whirlpool appliances have slightly more complaints than LG, Samsung, Bosch...
If that's true, I suspect it comes from the problem 6 or so years ago with the refrigerators having a defective circuit board like ours. The shortage and backorders were a big problem. Otherwise I still think Whirlpool is above others on repairs except for Speed Queen.
But every contact with an appliance repair guy gets the recommendation to buy Whirlpool (KitchenAid, Maytag, Amana, and another brand they own). The stories each serviceman told about some problem with getting parts or totally unavailable parts for one of the other brands was scary.
Out Whirlpool washer dryer have been here for 5 years and perfect. The refrigerator after the replacement of the circuit board has been perfect. My lovely bridge did leave the freezer door not quite closed causing a major scare because of snow in the refrig area, but that's another story. When I occasionally find the freezer door not quite tight because of somethiing inside that's not pushed in far enough, it still upsets her if I mention it.
DIL and son have the 8-9 year old washer dryer Whirlpool that he got when he moved into the apartment after he finished college and started his job.
The Lowes store seems to push the other brands when I'm there looking at various appliances just in case I need something because of a failure or for the kids. I think the salesmen get spiffs for selling them because they take a customer right over to an LG or Samsung first.
The strength of Whirlpool (Kitchenaid, maytag, usw.) is the availability of parts and ot authorized servcepeople.
Our fridge is the same as @driver100's, except it's full depth. The loud icemaker is because the unit sits on the door and the catch container is on the door. It's a very efficient design for conserving useable space when I compared freezers while shopping for our side-by-side.
We had horrible luck with an expensive Samsung set of washer and dryer. Multiple repairs on both and throw away at 7 years as a major part was no longer available. We bought Whirlpool Cabrio 6 years ago and have had only one minor repair on each. Parts have not been an issue and were immediately sourced. We also had the circuit board issue with our Whirlpool 27cu ft French door frig. That failure happened in the first year. It is now almost 8 years old and has been troublefree. My wife loves how flexible the frig compartment is and can be reconfigured to meet her needs.

The only input I have that really makes a difference is on dishwashers. If you want a quiet dishwasher, stick with a Euro style, without the food grinder. There are plenty of American made units, if that's your aim. I think Bosch dishwashers are even domestic, now. Most Kitchen-Aid models, as well.
the GE profile fridge in our new house works well and is quite fancy. only 2 YO so can't speak to longevity.
we had a nice LG bottom freezer at the old house. Was about 7 years old when we sold the house, and never had an issue with it. didn't even touch it once to clean the grids (if it even had them!)
I had the same recommendations about the Maytag, etc. vs. the Korean brands. The "foreign" makes were really nice and tons of features for the price, but the service people could get parts for the "domestics"
For Henry, Air BnB does have strict rules. which from what I have read, they just ignore. But definitely file repeated complaints (and get all your neighbors to do the same) and maybe they will finally do something.
if they parked in my driveway, I would consider that my property. take the wheels off and put it up on blocks. see how they like that. or go out and practice your golf game. not your problem if their car gets hit on your property.
got to be my own "guy" again today, plumbing version. Wife went downstairs this morning to get something and I hear her yelling about the scariest word: Water. corner of the store room had a large puddle, which just happened to be right over the sump pump cover.
I did call our plumber and had a request in for an emergency visit in the afternoon (those ain't cheap!) but wanted to get some water removed before it spread to a place it would matter. So I mopped a little then waded in to yank the cover off the hole so I could start bailing. and that was in tight so took some prying, and along the way it banged into the pipe coming out, and suddenly the pump kicked on (I had already checked that it was plugged in, and flipped the breaker to make sure it wasn't that. )
so since then, it has been chugging away trying to clear out the huge backlog of water in the drain system. took a long time to drop the level below the pipes that drain into the sump hole, so now it is kicking off and on as the hole pumps out and more water keeps draining in. hopefully it eventually runs out of backed up water and goes back to normal.
at least I know the drainage system works! my assumption is the float was either corroded, or just caught on something, and banging the pipe knocked it loose. but seems to be working as designed now.
so the plumbing equivalent of smacking the old TV to make it work better!
what was that, an underwater electrical outlet? sounds sketchy...
and yes, lucky that it happened when we are home. was fine last night (well, probably up to the top of the sump hole, just not spilled over yet) when I was in there. and she had to go get something before breakfast. I don't want to think about how far it could have spread if we had been away for a few days.

@stickguy
Very scary! Sounds like you caught it just in time.
I had to replace this at my sister in law’s house. Just a little beyond service life!

and yes, lucky that it happened when we are home. was fine last night (well, probably up to the top of the sump hole, just not spilled over yet) when I was in there. and she had to go get something before breakfast. I don't want to think about how far it could have spread if we had been away for a few days.
