Nah - I think "rugged" is in; see the new Lexus GX, Toyota Land Cruiser, Bronco/Bronco Sport, etc.

So long as they also offer a less masculine SUV (Escape vs. Bronco Sport, for example), I think it will do well.

My first impression of it wasn't bad. It is distinctive and to some extent mimics the Range Rover/Defender look but of course at a much lower price point. They will probably sell lots of them. I thought the tortured metal stamping on the Elantra and Tucson body sides was a bridge too far for their design team but I see them everywhere and people don't seem to mind it.

I like the new Santa Fe. I can appreciate that Hyundai doesn’t commit itself to any particular design language.

The only thing I’m not sure about is the placement of the taillights. Very minivan-ish.

Given the opportunity I like to park with that hunk of concrete protecting my front bumper too. I consider it being 25% full proof from damage. Better than no protection.

BTW, that guy is thinking of protection. Notice how far right he is in that parking spot.

Yes. He has his license. I did online quotes with multiple companies. I finished up on the phone. I triple checked that all my coverages were correct. I called up to add the Tacoma to the policy and they made sure it all checks out. It’s the 4th car on the policy.

Not sure how it works in CT, but in CO our kids had to be "rated" on a car, if there were an equal number of cars and drivers.

Good comments on the Santa Fe. I think it will be a pretty big hit. My opinion is they went a little too far, but it’s no worse than what Ford did with the Flex.

Santa Fe--they are definitely making a statement. I'd consider one if it fit my wants and needs at the time. I also saw a new Palisade (or something) on my street, in pearl white paint with the bling grill, and mistook it for a Cadillac at first.

A couple of the insurance companies asked me what car he would be driving. This company for whatever reason did not. Unless I did it automatically without asking. And just assigned them to the prelude because it is the oldest vehicle by far.

I went to grade school (7th and 8th grade) with a kid named Fuchs. He came to the US from Germany when he was in 3rd grade. The family shoulda taken that opportunity to change their name. Oh well, a lifetime of, “what did you say your name is”.

Does anyone here have any recommendations for decent budget all seasons? A family friend is on a really tight budget and needs new 16” tires for their Subaru Impreza. I seem to remember @qbrozen had become adept at finding great off brand tires.

Tire Rack has some Kumho Solus and General Altimax models on closeout right now.

I really liked the Sumitomos that came on my Murano.

Altimax would be good on a smallish car. Wasn’t a fan of them on our Honda Pilot but they were decent on my G35.

I don’t like the Solus.

Hand-wringing and gnashing of teeth on a Maverick-specific board when I posted my real-world results of premium vs. regular fuel: "How come you bought a truck, when you really want a racecar? Doing a "pull" in a truck is not what they are built for, and they suck at it as a result."

I'm considering a Cobb Stage 1 tune, but need to to more research on it.

Because having a vehicle that is useful AND fast is the dream. I’d ask all of them why they want to compromise and fill only one function.

Two 19.5” monitors and rearview cam installed this past weekend. Also a 1000w inverter installed under the front passenger seat (lots of metal cutting for that) and each monitor has an HDMI port in the wall near the 2nd and 4th rows of seats, respectively. This was all quite a lot of work.

It sounds remarkably like a board I watch from time to time- there's a large contingent of miled-up appliance/penalty box owners, self-righteous luddites and geezers who hate the thought of owning an entertaining vehicle.

Agreed. The Maverick, especially with its steel wheels, is an excellent bargain "sleeper." Its cornering capability is decent for what it is, the ride quality is good, and the acceleration matches my parents' four year older Q5 (which cost about twice as much). Even within the Ford ecosystem, if you want the 2.0T powertrain, you're looking at either a very high trim level Escape or Bronco Sport, or a base model Edge, all of which hover around $40k MSRP.

Then again, there may be some Luddite geezers who splurge on an entertaining car to supplement their miled up penalty boxes. Kind of like being Clark Kent and occasionally Superman.

My first Genny was a 2009 with the V8 and it had something like 375 HP when using 93 octane gas and a measly 360 something HP when using RUG. I bought the car in April of 2009 and I had to have switched back and forth a couple dozen times trying to see if there was a difference in performance. I could barely tell the difference if there even was any.

Fast forward to the first cold morning in November (temp in the 30’s) when I’m going to work. As I’m coming down the on ramp of the PA Turnpike to merge, I step on it like I’d done hundreds of times before and this time the car really took off, no doubt about it. That proved to me that cold air input provides more power than a few more octane points.

As built myMustang could use either 87 or premium with a 5% reduction in horsepower on 87. Why anyone would run 87 in a car like that always puzzled me and I always used premium.

With the mild performance upgrades I did the car now requires 91+ which is fine by me as I want the performance. I’ll save money driving the Kia on 87 if I’m feeling cheap.

My eco boost Maverick it made no practical difference since any change was at higher revs/boost where I generally did not go. Basically the extra speed was wasted since I never needed to use everything the base tune offered.
