I was surprised how clean the underside looked in that one photo. Definitely take a closer look all around, and bring a magnet. The '65 I once looked at had the carpeting visible from below at the front of the floor pan.

In my experience, if the brake lines are rusted there is a lot more rust hiding elsewhere. I suppose LI would have less salt than upstate if that’s where it spent its life.

If I was in the market for an old Firebird I probably would go for the V6 like that one since the V8s were probably beat up or crashed.

Yes, very different than upstate. We get winter, but last couple of years have been not much

Near my shore house someone has one of these in white. They come down my street (probably to go to the restaurant on the bay) quite often. I’ll have to try and grab a pic if I see him this year.

It’s not show quality but looks presentable.

Local to me, maybe not surprising, there are a couple of these running around the area, I have seen a white one too.

I think this one bas been for sale for a bit, probably not a ton of local demand. License plate age supports the dormancy claim.

Haven’t seen one of those in years. My dad had an 87 Shadow Turbo 5sp two door in black over grey. Later on my Aunt had a 94 ES Mistu V6 in the ubiquitous for the time hunter green over beige with gold trimmed wheels.

For awhile the Shadow/Sundance and Spirit/Acclaim were everywhere it seemed.

And apparently not a strippo "America" model at that. Back in the early 90s, my aunt and uncle had a Sundance as the tow-behind "dinghy" for their gargantuan motorhome.

I don’t think they were that bad a car for the times. The 94 with the 3.0 V6 was pretty fun to drive. Torque steered almost as bad as an early VQ Maxima but in a good way.

My stepbrother’s first car was a Spirit with the V6. He dogged that car to death and it never let him down. At one point he smashed it and put it back together with primer panels but it kept going. I think it got traded at well over 150K on the original transmission. That 3.0 was blowing lots of blue smoke by then.

My brother had a Sundance Duster V6 as an ordinary used car in the early-mid 00s. Those are hen's teeth now, I think the engine might have eventually kind of let go, not sure how strictly he maintained it. That one came before or after a Lumina Euro - he went through a few cars in his younger days.

My only experience with those was as rental cars. I wanted to like the Sundance, but didn’t. It had a flexi feel to it and didn’t seem well-made. Even the controls and switches felt loose. But the Spirit was a different story. I didn’t want to like it because the boxy styling turned me off but I really liked driving it. It felt solid and nicely put together.

I considered trading my 84 Horizon SE for a new 87 ES turbo 5sp, fully loaded with pop up sunroof. They had a red or white one on the lot. I test drove one and found the manual transmission didn’t shift as nicely as that in the Horizon. Otherwise I liked it. I got a high pressure salesman which really irked me. No sale.

I rented the Chrysler version of the Spirit (5th Avenue?) for a business trip. Drove it from SoCal to Stockton and back. Very comfy ride, which I guess should be no surprise.

A friend of mine and his mom both had a Spirit - they were big Mopar fans. Both were burgundy, and I think one had the 4 banger and the other the V6.

My mom had a Taurus of that same year, also a 5 digit odo that maybe never rolled over, as the 3.8 puked its head gasket with mileage in the 80s and she walked away from it.

First drive of the season for the (mild) project car today:

Clean roads and false spring weather (a few warm days with cool/cold just ahead) beckoned. The car has been off the road since November 12th - yesterday I charged the battery, aired up the tires, and turned the key this morning. The car started right up, settled into a normal idle, and ran/drove fine - got a couple compliments including a nice chat with a guy easily in his 70s who was down from BC and was really taken by it.

Only way it might be restored would be to ship it back to England to be near the 35 different little craft repair shops you'd need to fix all the bad parts. Good luck finding an original working digital dash! After $300,000, you might have a nice $100,000 car.
