We have a housekeeper who has come to us weekly for almost a decade. We have landscapers who come and clean up every week, deal with the irrigation system, and show up after every fall windstorm to clear away fallen branches.

Same as @tjc78 - I work a lot and want to spend my free time on things I want to do with the kiddo, cars, etc.

    Best money we spend…

I gave up cutting the lawn years ago. I have 1 acre of property. the landscaper charges me $50 a week and does a phenomenal job. I had a self propelled push mower. It would take me 3 hours to cut the grass, then 45 minutes to do the edging and trim. When I need shrubs pruned, he shows up with an army and the job gets done right. They are fast & clean up well.

I pay my son $80 for about 4 acres, I do about an acre and 1/2 myself plus another acre and a half down the hill about twice a season. It’s more about giving my son something to do than money. I mow just for a feeling of accomplishment.😀

I saw a new recall on my Maverick (announced today) when I logged into my Ford account for an issue with the backup camera freezing. Can't find the full bulletin that shows all of the years (and possibly other models) affected yet, probably because it's so recent.

My Mustang still has a recall for the backup camera but the dealer said it requires extensive work on the electrical system so if it wasn’t acting up it wasn’t worth fixing. He actually said “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.

Car is just about 10 years old and no problem so far.

I agree that if your specific car isn’t giving you a problem, I wouldn’t take the chance of allowing a dealer to jump in and “fix” a problem you don’t have. I’d be very concerned that they would screw up something else while they’re “in there”.

However, I wouldn’t carte blanche believe a dealer when they say it requires “extensive work”. I’d have to do research to prove that statement.

Sadly we said good bye to the Acura and sold it to CarMax. It was going to need timing belt service as the idler pulley was making noise and the transmission would randomly shudder. At 187 k it was a fine soldier My daughter will get the Passat. Working on a deal now. More to follow.

I almost bought this yesterday. 2022 Lexus ES with premium package, 22k mi. I was getting ready to go to finance and thought I'd give it a better look over as the sun came out and it was no longer overcast. Good thing I did as I found the right front fender and front right door had been resprayed. I walked.

Did the dealer have a CarFax available to at least assure you that it wasn’t a major accident repair?

I'm sure the repair I just completed on my Outback will show up on CarFax - just a little dent to the fender, but cost over $3000 to fix. Got the car back yesterday and it looks new again.

I've scheduled a full interior/exterior detail for it next weekend - a local HS kid has started his own detailing business and it's been getting pretty good reviews.

I assume that was an insurance claim since those get reported. I use an independent body shop for all my (so far) minor dings and scratches. I’d hate to get dinged at sales time because of a parking lot nick being listed as an “accident” . It’s a shame that car sellers don’t have photos of the pre accident damage to help you gauge the severity.

@sda - can’t wait to see what you end up with. That TL was a good soldier for a long time! Whatever you got for it is house money.

I’m glad you saw the defects/body work on the Lexus. I like the ES. Our ‘17 Pilot was a dark metallic blue and was extremely difficult to keep clean. It showed every scratch worse than a black car.

I do want to look at cars though. I got the itch. pointed out some sharp looking new BMW today on the highway (might have been and M3) in what I consider a great color (burnt orange). wife said she liked it, other than the color. Might have a chance here. Just going to cost to get the wife out of her current wheels!

Very nice @sda. I always thought the Arteon was quite handsome and the best looking VW.
A big plus is that there are not many on the road. That is what I liked about my previous Crossfire SRT and recently departed latest model Buick Lacrosse.

No, but still plenty quick for my needs. It is 268hp, with an 8 speed automatic. The DCT came out in 2022. Less maintenance on the conventional automatic is a plus.

NJ MVC has done it again. At least they didn’t ask me for more paperwork. Took a couple of months this time but I’m not quite ready to drive it yet. I just finished replacing the timing belt, water pump, balance belt (it has a belt-driven harmonic balancer, which is a new one on me) and 4 associated guide pulleys/tensioners last night. Also 8 new plugs and valve cover gasket. New accessory belt and pulley going on today if my wife lets me get to it.

However, I also broke the shifter base. It was on its way out, I guess, as it was definitely loose. It got stuck at one point and I had to force it, which did the final deed. It is a common failure, apparently, and the replacement base was $12. It hasn’t arrived yet, though. Been stuck in UPS limbo for a week now.

IIRC, when I lived in SC from ‘92 to ‘97 the max sales tax was $300 or maybe $350. I bought a used ‘95 Bonneville in ‘95 and my sales tax was way under the max.

Good to hear SC still doesn’t gouge you.

    Yup!
You may recall, the last one they sent was the same thing, but just once: “we can’t issue it because we already issued it” and the title was in the envelope. I think the MVC needs mandatory drug testing.
And, yes, thankfully the title is correct with 1998.
