Flurries here, a bit stronger now. Heading to the Cape this pm. No worries, been driving in snow since, well, since I've been driving. Of course, every other driver is an idiot... no offense...

My bro in Santa Monica says they're still safe. Unlike the Palisades, I'll miss Noah's bagels. I can only hope there will be some kind of silver lining after all this, that all those folks will soon again be whole.

Kinda breaks my heart that the A7 has to live outdoors. But selfish wife insists upon a garage spot for her car. Just cuz she owns half the house... shoulda bought the garage myself.

Although, to charge the A7 overnight, the M240 spent the night in the wild, it's now lightly covered in snow. Oh, the humanity.

It's been snowing here just about every day an inch or two due to lake effect.
I'm getting in snow shovelling shape.
Haven't started the snowblower yet. The snow is pretty powdery and light.
If I shovel the whole driveway, sidewalk and walkway to the front door, it's about a mile and a quarter's worth of steps.

Sort of the same here. Snow on Monday and Thursday this past week. Thursday was accompanied by a fair amount of wind, so we had small drifts in our back yard.

Finally got around to clearing the driveway yesterday (nice to have SUVs with good ground clearance). Light and powdery snow, so easy to move.

also still have the CD player I bought when they first came out (early 90's?). An ADC. Darned thing still works perfectly. Have that set up. Now CDs, those I have (many plastic boxes full, definitely over 1,000). I did have a plan to upload them all (and did once do a few 100 to iTunes, which got lost in the ether at one point). I started doing them again to a different tool (something with Monkey in the name) that I used to collect everything I did have on my laptop digitized. That is about 3,000 songs I copied to a USB stick. Maybe when I retire I can do the rest!

I wouldn’t bother digitizing the music. For a few bucks a month subscribe to a streaming service and listen to anything you want.

For me nothing beats the sound and experience from an LP or CD on a good system.

My sister-in-law is going to sell her Florida car. She wanted $5000 for it and that seems reasonable to me, but I checked on Edmunds and they offered $2400.
It's a 2008 Chev Impala, all good, only 50000 miles on it.
It seems to me that a car that only have 50000 miles on it still has a good 5 years of driving left in it, and it would be worth $5000 to someone.....but only if sold privately.
I guess, to make it worthwhile for them they would buy it for $2400, and then try to get $4500 to $5000 for it.

Smart getting the A7....now you can say you need the garage so you can plug it in.
When the grandchildren were teens MrsD100 and I got manual transmissions....so the grandkids wouldn't be able to borrow them

Neither can I as anything inside the ear will irritate my ears (which means hearing aids are out for me), so I use ones that clip over the ear and sit just outside the ear canal.

Well today the wife and I just joined the EV bandwagon. We each got our own, 75 mile range and a top speed of 28 MPH. Also when you run out of power you can still pedal it to get home.

My kids are obsessed with frame rate on their computers. I keep arguing that they are talking about rates beyond human comprehension, but they don’t believe me.

The record player has a 2nd matching console that holds records and has a 2nd speaker.
The radio is, in fact, a Philco.
The jukebox is nothing special. Plays 45s. I looked it up once before but forget now what year. I want to say ‘68-‘69, but not positive.

Driver, $2,400 from Edmunds makes sense, since that is going to be trade in value (assuming you asked for a buy offer). That will also be at least $2k below retail. You just don't notice it as much on a more expensive car!

Not too long ago I would have jumped on a low mile Florida car but I’m full up on low mileage rust free vehicles (two of which are Florida cars) and a 2008 is too old to give to my son for Lyft.

Why don’t you drive home this spring and before you leave list it on Craigslist or Marketplace in Buffalo. You’ll cross the border with a pocket full of cash.

I can understand monitoring it. If it's bogging down on intense games, it indicates you're at the limits of your setup.

Earbuds... I got a set of the original Apple AirPods Pro. They had a common problem with the earbuds randomly spewing static and extended the warranty. Just after the extended warranty ended, my left earbud started experiencing the problem (I still have them in the basement in hopes that someone will file a class action lawsuit against Apple and I'll be able to return them). I bought a cheap set of highly rated Soundcore earbuds off Amazon as a temporary-to-permanent replacement, and they were working fine, but wouldn't you know, my dog heard of my plight and got me a set of the second-gen AirPods Pro for Father's Day.

I have some Sennheiser earbuds. They look like big chicklets but they sound better than the wired Apple earbuds I had previously. Cheaper than the Apple wireless type.
They have 5 or 6 different size adapters for your ears.
It took me a while to figure out the right size, but its all good now.

Movies are like 60 fps.

Movies are 24, the human eye is between 30 and 60. So if your watching something at 120 fps you won't see between 50 and 75% of the frames.

2008 is a VERY OLD CAR. I don’t care if it has low miles, it still sat out in the sun for 15 years! But maybe people don’t think like that and you can get more?

True, those Florida cars can come with their own unique problems like blasted clear coat or even rust if they lived right on the ocean but all things considered a southern environment is generally easier on a car. My convertible was 18 years old when I bought it as was my Lincoln Mark VIII and I never had any unusual problems and they were both Florida cars.

If a car checked out mechanically and the price was right I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a 15-20 year old car for basic transportation. The market for sub $5k vehicles is red hot these days. I have sold some pretty beat up hoopties by just parking them in my driveway with a for sale sign. They were all gone in a week.

My daily is another decade older than that and, yeah, I’d expect at least $7k for it.

The 2008 Impala is in Florida in the summer but left under a carport. It is in really good condition. It is hard to find a car that is going to be dependable and won't cost a lot to run for under $5000.....most are at the end of their lifespan.
If a person needs basic transportation to go a few miles to get groceries, or to get to work etc., this would be a good buy. Especially for someone mechanically inclined, they could fix things that naturally wear out with time.
@stickguy Yes, I said Edmunds/Carvana would have to buy it and then sell it for a profit. I heard of people using them and being satisfied with the price they got as a trade in. I was curious to see how generous they would be. In this case, it is better to sell privately if you don't mind the risk and trouble.

Before Klipsch became the Best Buy darlings, they only made six speaker lines. They call them "Heritage" line today. They've been in production for decades (Some since the '50s). ...all hand made in Hope Arkansas. They are Jubilee, Klpipsch Horns, LaScalla, Cornwalls, Fortes (my set) and Heresy. All are so efficient and exhibit such low distortion, they can be driven by just about any amplification. I had tubes driving mine for a little bit.

I have yet to hear anything else that can transport you to a live performance sound as my speakers do.

I toured their factory. Amazingly, they do everything from woodworking, install and test drivers, there. The Heritage line were all designed by the late Paul Klipsch, and, while not cheap, hard to better, IMHO!

The stuff you see in Best Buy is mostly made and designed in China.

My wife took me walking with her at the mall a little while ago. What a sad sight. Online shopping has devastated it. It seems like half the storefronts are empty.

Our Macy's is one of the ones closing soon, but you could see that coming. Hardly any traffic there for quite a while.

The only "anchor" left is JC Penny and it's on shaky ground it seems.

In our living room I have the Advents that I bought while in college in the walnut, not utility cabinet along with a Technics SL DD 22 turntable. Not used often, but enjoyable to listen to albums several times a year.

The JC Penny near me (if you can call 15 miles near) is on shaky grounds too but it's been that way for at least a decade.

Same with the mall near us. That thing was a thriving go to place when it was built and for many years afterwards. Coincidentally, that was the same year Son #1 was born and we had our first house built in 1969. Macy’s is there on one end but it wasn’t an original store there. Penny’s is still there but not in the center anchor spot like it was originally on both the upper and lower levels. We used to always go in the mall at Penny’s because it was in the center and we used the elevator when our sons were in carriages and strollers. Now it’s on the opposite end from Macy’s but only on the upper level. Dick’s is on the lower level. The real sad part is that there was a full size ice skating rink there on the lower level across from Penny’s but they turned that into a food cort quite a while ago. So long ago, some folks don’t even know that.

Yep, online shopping has killed that place.
