I’m paying $465/mo on my Blazer EV, so $600 sounds like a lot to me. They really did not get a good deal. If they have 3 years payments left and can afford it I would just suffer through and get rid of it once it’s paid off. If not I agree that selling both cars and getting one they like might be the way to go. Maybe from a different dealer this time. Do they only drive Fords?

Also... $600/mo is a normal payment for a $30K car. It isn't any more extravagant than buying a $30K for a teenager. $30K at 7% APR for 60 months is $595/mo.

So, the problem isn't the dealer or the financing. It's a buyer problem. Unfortunately, there aren't any good workarounds for it. Sell the beater they're driving to supplement the payments, and start driving the EcoSport?

I had it wrong on the EcoSport purchase. It was for the wife to drive and for the son to drive when he got a license. The wife reluctantly drives and wants a small car. Their other car is a Bronco.

I think they screwed themselves on that purchase. I think the EcoSport replaced a Fusion that the wife drove and didn't like especially after the wreck.

I think they're toast at the mercy of the insiders market sale by FoMoCo of the EcoSport after return with a larger loss than necessary for which they'll look to our friends for recovery.
Wait, what? She wants a small car? The EcoSport *is* a small car! There's not much smaller on the market.

You’re going to really like that multi-tool. IMO, it’s the best invention so far in this millennium. Get the blades online. They’re a LOT cheaper and just as good as the name brands. I think they all come out of the same factory with different names on them. At least that’s what I’ve noticed with the ones I’ve purchased so far.

    Happy birthday and enjoy.

The multi-tool, which I lovingly call a "zick zick," is fantastic! However, it is the inkjet printer of tools: The cheapest part of it is buying the tool.

That certainly changes things. If money is a problem definitely sell the Bronco (assuming they’re not underwater on that too) and pay off the EcoSport. I just don’t see an upside to doing a voluntary repo unless they never plan on using credit ever again.

Walking away from a loan can be a good strategy for some things (such as houses / properties with serious undisclosed ailments), but not a car. The cost/benefit just doesn't pan out!

Thanks, seeing that my next project is to paint the railings on the stairs starting next weekend I intend to try out the multi tool to sand it down. The multi tool did come with some blades.

    ————————————————
The multitool could do the sanding but a sanding sponge is better for curved surfaces. Start off with a course grit sponge then follow up with a finer grit sponge. Since you’re painting and not staining you don’t have to get down to bare wood. Just getting the gloss off when painting is good enough.

That’s why I said buy the blades online. I can’t remember exactly what I paid a few years ago, but it was something like $35 for 100 1/38 inch wide blades. I know that sounds impossible but I figured if they wore out twice as fast it would still be a good deal. But they lasted like the name brand blades. You will go broke buying those blades at the big box stores.

    Go birds!

So that was a big plus today.

On the negative side, I missed an 11-leg parlay by 1 lousy yard. Would have taken $338 for a $2.50 bet. Came down to the last Ravens drive. Needed Lamar to get 40 rushing yards. He ended the game with 39. If he had run in the 2-pt conversion, I would have won AND they would have tied the game! Frustrating. I’ve been hoping for an Eagles-Ravens Super Bowl for years.

I kept seeing you guys talking about buying things at Best Buy and how happy you seemed to be with the experience.

I haven't been to my local Best Buy in quite a few years because of unfavorable experiences. I figured maybe they have changed,

I went there a few days ago to get a laptop, Microsoft Office, and a printer. The sales guy kept trying to sell me a $50 warranty to protect against price drops. There was something else too that I can't remember. It cost $100 or $150.

I told him a few times that I wasn't interested. He kept it up.

When we got to the place where you pay, he asked again - twice.

Then he started on the extended warranty on the computer and the printer. If I was alone I would have probably left then, but my secretary was with me and this stuff is for her.

Really, really irritating. It must work or they wouldn't do it I suppose.

A few years ago the hinges on my laptop broke so I dropped it off at Best Buy and the Geek at the Geek Squad asked if I got the extended warranty. I told him no and he gave me a song and dance that if I had gotten it the repair wouldn't cost me anything. I tried to tell him that I am actually saving money by paying the $80 to get my laptop fixed over the $150 that the warranty would have cost me. He couldn't understand that I would have spent more for the warranty than the repair.

Was thinking the same. If they can't afford the payments on the Ford, and they're upside down by thousands, short of turning the car in and declaring bankruptcy, the choices are very limited.

Like you, my EV6 was WAY cheaper than that. Might want to see if they can bury some of the negative equity into an EV with all the current incentives. I know the Blazer and Equinox EVs, The EV6/9, the Ionic 5 (and especially the 6), the VW ID.4, the Honda Prologue, etc are heavily incentivized, particularly on a lease. Even the Teslas are a good buy right now.

All of these are highly rated and all of them really good vehicles. Not ideal, but if they can bury negative equity and pull off a payment they can live with, might be worth a look.

If not, turning the Ford back in is not going to absolve them from the financial burden they have, again unless they declare bankruptcy.

They're in their 70s, did you say? How about refinancing what I'm assuming is a house that is paid off to cover the car's negative equity?

Those people should never have taken a -9.5 spread. That’s waaayyy too much for a team who won most of their games this season by less than 1 score. Smart money was Texans plus the points, or take an alternate spread like Chiefs -6.5.

Oddly, on DraftKings, I never saw a -9.5. When I placed my bets a couple of days ago, it was -8.5.

I kept hearing on all the sports talk shows that it was 8.5. I don’t gamble, but thought to myself the same thing. KC wins a lot, but never blows teams away. This AM they (WFAN) said the spread moved to 9.5 at game time. Washington was impressive and Buffalo closed the game out nicely. Sundays games should be good!

    That was a bad experience.

The guru I had when I returned the Samsung at Best Buy, that had a sound problem, was nothing like that. Although he did mention the Best Buy membership program (IIRC, it was $60) and went so far as to show me how that membership would pay for itself when I bought a TV and sound bar at the same time. So, like I said before, I want to check that out further when I buy a TV.

Now, contrast that to when I bought a computer at OfficeMax a few years ago. When I walked in I sought out the store manager because I’ve dealt with him since he was a young salesman more than 20 years ago. As usual he was helpful with giving me the specs on a couple of the computers I was interested in. But that’s where his helpfulness ended. He had to push the extended warranty at least 3 times before I put the computer in my cart. Then when I’m checking out he mentioned it again twice. Finally, I said, “if you mention the extended warranty again, I’m leaving the computer in the cart and I’m going somewhere else”. That got through to him, so I gave him my CC and that was that.

There has to be a pretty good commission on extended warranties otherwise they wouldn’t push them. Probably just like when buying a car.

I've seen them here. Local roads as well as on I70 usually during periods of snow west of us on cars of people traveling. The trucks really can raise a mess of salt mist on you.

Comment: after driving in times with lots of salt spray or salt dust from salt on the roads, I change my cabin air filter and clean the engine air filter to see if it needs replacing.

I've had really good luck with the Staples a few miles from where I live. I've bought 3 or 4 laptops from them over the past 6-8 years and have had excellent support at the time, besides which the purchase prices were quite acceptable. They have (hopefully still) personnel on-site who can solve simple and not-so-simple glitches in short order.

Actually using your extended warranty would be like winning a lottery. They are almost never claimed, and if something does breakdown people forget they got the warranty. It is almost 100% profit for the store, less a nice commission for the salesperson.

Funny you would mention that. We went to Staples first because I have usually been satisfied with them. We asked someone where the laptops were. Then we walked over there, found about what she wanted and waited for someone to help us. And waited.

Finally, we went to the Geek place where a guy was messing with a bunch of cables and he said he would be right with us. Then I noticed there was him, a cashier, and someone at the copy area. That's it.

We waited a few minutes and went to the printer area and found what she needed. Still, nobody helped us. They could see us. I am tall enough to be above the aisles. One young guy did stroll past us eating something out of a little bowl.

As we were leaving the Geek guy looked up from his knots of cables. There's no good place.

And that’s why I don’t like or deal with places that offer those mail in coupons. From what I’ve heard not too many people do either and because of that they’re not offered as much today as a few years ago. People want to save money now not have to jump through hoops to get it. It seems like some outfits understand that, finally.

When I bought the Bosch dishwasher from them in November it was backordered to Jan. 9 which wasn’t a problem, and sure enough that was when it arrived. It is still in the garage waiting for more progress on the kitchen reno before it gets installed. The guy tried to sell me an extended warranty on it. When I turned him down, he said “what if I discount the dishwasher by the same amount, then?” Well, sure, in that case. I figure they must have had some sort of spiff for the salespeople who sold some number of them.

Jayden Daniels and Josh Allen need to do their part so we don't see KC and don't see Jalen Hurts pass for 86 yards in a Super Bowl.

Yet, Hurts passed for 1 more yard than Allen this weekend. hmmmmm....

Have to run to the airport, so I'll miss watching the beginning of the game.
Will catch it on Sat radio.

Didn't realize game started at 7:30, so missed most of the first quarter.

Ravens had Derrick Henry with a monster game but didn't use him for the 2 point attempt.

Or Lamar’s considerable running skills. I thought the play call of a pass halfway across the field from 2 yards out was them trying to be too clever.

I agree. There are too many times when a coach out coaches himself, not the other coach. One of the best examples of this is ex Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. If I owned that team I would have banned him from the locker room after that cute move. It’s football, what’s wrong with lining up and playing it?

That's not saying much with the skill position players they have. Of course Barkley is a beast so they're doing what works but that offense could be Baltimore level if they wanted.

With regard to Windows license keys, I recommend not buying those retail, as you can get them at a huge discount through cdkeys.com or instant-gaming.com. I think I paid about $30 for my Windows 11 Pro key (versus something like $160 retail).

What’s wrong with using a glue/adhesive remover? Shops should have gallons of that around.

I always thought you couldn't make a cyber truck look any worse, apparently I was correct. Anyways a quick search on the internet says you can vinyl wrap a cyber truck.

@xwesx - I've used that site before, as well. Never had an issue.
