Hello, I have been trying to research the "auction" price of my 05 STS but no luck. The KBB and NADA sites both indicate about 16 to 17K for the trade-in value. 2 dealers only offered 12-13K for it as I was buying a 2010 Fusion Hybrid loaded for the sticker price, 32K. I had bank preapproval financing at 4.8% for the balance, with the letter to make the deal. Was I just getting shanked because they were not making any "enough profit" off my deal? I went in asking for 16k. The caddy has 35K miles, new car warranty expires in Sept. and it is Cadillac certified until Sept 2011. It is excellent condition, they even said it was, but the wholesale value was only 12k, market conditions, and GM is bankrupt, etc....What do you think? Will all dealers react this way or should I just try to sell myself or take it to CarMax?
Thanks

Car should bring in the $13's easy, maybe into the $14's.
Do take the car to Carmax, it sounds like the kind of low mile puff they would go nuts for.
Let us know what Carmax says.

In good shape. Original tires, brakes. Had all scheduled maintenance.
The dealer I brought it to said he could get $6000-7500 at auction. The website trade-in values are around $9000, so I walked away.
Thanks for your thoughts!
My friend that is considering the car, really doesn't care about NAV, though.. However, he will do his best to convince the seller that he does..
I agree... just about a perfectly equipped 5-series..

Volvomax will give u the actual action value.
Bet you get at least $9 grand.
I sold a 1998 Forester with less equipment and a lot more miles for $7 grand 2 years ago.
This year, I am shopping aggressively and it seems prices have not fallen whatsoever. These cars show up on Autotrader, listed at 23k - 25k, and sell in under a week.
A local dealer told me he doesn't buy them at auction because they're too hot (too $$). He has an automatic on his lot, that was a trade. Good price actually - but I want the M6.
Is this a temporary spike? Is this because Pontiac is being shuttered? Are these now being scooped up as quasi-collector cars? Should I really pay 70% of the original sticker for a 3 year old car? Actually -- if they keep their value this strongly, I don't mind paying more up front.
Thanks for any tips/info/advice!
Brian
Car is being sold at a dealership in LA, probably a lease return, Gray with black leather interior.
4dr Journey Package

Any guesses?
Avg wholesale for a low mile car is @ $20,000. so a mid $20's retail is to be expected.
What action is recommended at what values?
Trade-in to a front-line dealer? What could I expect?
Sale to a Car Max? or to a no-brand "buy here-pay here" dealer? What could I expect?
Can I get it to an auction? What could I expect?
Other ideas? Pls. respond ASAP. Thanks.
So do you think the dealer paid $17K for it?

Thanks for your help.
But sell it privately.List the defects and the CEL light and sell it "as is".Private party maybe 2.5k ,especially with the light on.Tough to tell without actually knowing why the light is on.
Lets see what volvomax says.
'06 5-door Rabbit. Automatic. Heated power cloth seats. No moonroof.
64k miles. Silver over grey.
'04 V40. Automatic. Cloth. No moonroof. No bun warmers. I guess No power seat, either. yikes.
74k miles. Dark blue over grey.
Not sure which would be the nicer car of these 2. Vmax, is that a 4-speed auto in the V40? Any major problem areas in those?

I think you've graduated from having to defer to volvomax all the time. You've been deadly accurate in each of your predictions thus far. Long live the KING! :P
V40 had a 4 spd auto. Pretty good car.
Seems like an awesome value.
And, yes, that's current model. Although Rabbit is already dead. Maybe its the name that drives down the value. ;b

And given the heated power seats and auto trans in this one, I'm thinking $20k is more likely. So a health 25% residual. Welcome to VW country.

But a good used car value, I suppose.
I think the 2.5l only made 150hp back then, though.
Meanwhile, while I am in here, what would you have said about that Accord if the CEL wasn't on? I have an 00 EX 5 speed with 170K. Nothing really going on. Just curious.

Ouch, short life for the "guesstimator" ...deltheking.
He did defer you to Volvo though, so once again... long live "THE KING!". :P
Volvomax`s advice was really really helpful to me when I was selling my barely new Odyssey to the dealer and also when buying a pre-owned Nissan Quest which I got for a great bargain.
My rough trade in value is based on looking up Autotrader for similar cars from the same year, mileage and options, getting an average selling value-and deducting about 2k from the average price-which roughly gives the trade value.
That`s why it`s a guesstimate,not an estimate!
And Mark48186- Did you trade in the car to the dealer or did you sell it outright to him?If you traded in the car,I think probably the dealer overallowed on your trade. What did you buy?And I dont know if the CFC program has driven the price of used cars up from May.
Do keep us posted!
