My guesstimate would be 8k.And if it is really clean, can push for 8.5k.Also,Buick SUV`s are not popular on the used car side.
Volvomax can give u the most accurate info.

Pricey, sure, but possibly the perfectly equipped Bimmer.

No automatic means you get a manual, no nav means you don't have to fight with iDrive. Add a Garmin and be happy for a long time.

    In Los Angeles area.
    2005 STS V8 35,200 miles
    Leather inside- spotless
    Tri-coat white outside - spotless
standard equipment, no GPS. tires 75% remaining, RWD

Hello, I have been trying to research the "auction" price of my 05 STS but no luck. The KBB and NADA sites both indicate about 16 to 17K for the trade-in value. 2 dealers only offered 12-13K for it as I was buying a 2010 Fusion Hybrid loaded for the sticker price, 32K. I had bank preapproval financing at 4.8% for the balance, with the letter to make the deal. Was I just getting shanked because they were not making any "enough profit" off my deal? I went in asking for 16k. The caddy has 35K miles, new car warranty expires in Sept. and it is Cadillac certified until Sept 2011. It is excellent condition, they even said it was, but the wholesale value was only 12k, market conditions, and GM is bankrupt, etc....What do you think? Will all dealers react this way or should I just try to sell myself or take it to CarMax?
    Thanks

    I think $12k is a little low,but $16-17k is way high.
Car should bring in the $13's easy, maybe into the $14's.

Do take the car to Carmax, it sounds like the kind of low mile puff they would go nuts for.
Let us know what Carmax says.

    Seattle, WA area
    2004 Subaru Forester X
    Automatic, AWD
    53K
    Dark Green ext./Tan int.
    Base model
In good shape. Original tires, brakes. Had all scheduled maintenance.

The dealer I brought it to said he could get $6000-7500 at auction. The website trade-in values are around $9000, so I walked away.

    Thanks for your thoughts!

Unfortunately, all 5-series have I-drive, NAV or not... It's only the 3-series that does without it..

My friend that is considering the car, really doesn't care about NAV, though.. However, he will do his best to convince the seller that he does.. :)

I agree... just about a perfectly equipped 5-series..

I would say the guides here are probably true.9k would be a fair value. But the dealer probably would have taken into account -that the tires need to be replaced and probably the brake pads too as you say they are still original.Plus dark green is not a popular color and relatively tougher to sell.Hence the dealer probably reduced about 1.5k from 9k.
Volvomax will give u the actual action value.
  • delthekingdeltheking Member Posts: 1,152
My rough guesstimate would be between 17k,maybe 500 more....Let`s see what Volvomax says.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
That's a good car to sell privately. Ask $9875 obo.

Bet you get at least $9 grand.

I sold a 1998 Forester with less equipment and a lot more miles for $7 grand 2 years ago.

I am looking for some general advice/information on 06 GTOs. Last summer I was looking at them, and clean low miles (17k) meant around $21-23k. I wanted to save up some more cash and waited a year.

This year, I am shopping aggressively and it seems prices have not fallen whatsoever. These cars show up on Autotrader, listed at 23k - 25k, and sell in under a week.

A local dealer told me he doesn't buy them at auction because they're too hot (too $$). He has an automatic on his lot, that was a trade. Good price actually - but I want the M6.

Is this a temporary spike? Is this because Pontiac is being shuttered? Are these now being scooped up as quasi-collector cars? Should I really pay 70% of the original sticker for a 3 year old car? Actually -- if they keep their value this strongly, I don't mind paying more up front.

    Thanks for any tips/info/advice!

They were discounted heavily when new, high 20s I think. Those things are holding their value AMAZINGLY well. Wow.

    Figure @ $17k wholesale
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Dealer is all over it at $7500. If it were a better color and had newer tires and brakes then maybe another grand.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Remember, last summer was the summer of $4.00/gal gas. Anything w/ a V8 was going for fire sale prices. Chances are, the Goats were undervalued then.
Avg wholesale for a low mile car is @ $20,000. so a mid $20's retail is to be expected.

I have a 1997 Infiniti I30 with 150k miles needing some minor cosmetic work (corner of front bumper; worn, ripped leather on driver's seat). Car has been good and dependable, but recently told one of the 6 cylinders not working and suggested engine replacement, but at the price I was quoted for a repl engine, it makes more sense to buy a replacement car. But what do I do with this old car?
What action is recommended at what values?
    Trade-in to a front-line dealer? What could I expect?
Sale to a Car Max? or to a no-brand "buy here-pay here" dealer? What could I expect?
Can I get it to an auction? What could I expect?
Other ideas? Pls. respond ASAP. Thanks.
  • delthekingdeltheking Member Posts: 1,152
A car needing replacement engine is worth only scrap value to the dealer.try local salvage yards, junkyard lots or put it on Craigslist for parts. Also try Carmax-probably they will give you 300 for it.
  • yungsuyungsu Member Posts: 4
Thank you. The car I'm looking at was a lease return that was listed as a fleet vehicle and sold at auction to a dealership.

So do you think the dealer paid $17K for it?
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Can't really say. Depends on how long the dealer had it, what auction they bought it from and most importantly how much reconditioning they put into it. Not to mention auction fees, shipping, PAC etc.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Basically you have a $500 car, if that.

I'm trying to get a better idea as to trade-in value of my car. KBB, NADA, and Edmunds vary a bit.

    Location: NoVA
    Year/Make/Model: 1999 Honda Accord EX
    Body Style: 4dr
    Engine: 4cyl 5spd
    Driveline: FWD
    Mileage: 145000
    Color: White
Major Options: all stock, no options
    Condition:
interior -- excellent (for an 11yo car)
exterior -- very good, again 11yo so has some small dings and scratches but no accidents, paint still shiny as I wax it often
Tires - newer, less than 1 yo
    Brakes -- over 50%
    New starter, battery
    AC works
    All records

** Other: The check engine light is on and car will fail emissions which is due NEXT year. The code is for evap canister. CAT was changed three years ago.

    Thanks for your help.
  • delthekingdeltheking Member Posts: 1,152
No dealer will take this car.He would probably give upto 1k if the car is decent.
But sell it privately.List the defects and the CEL light and sell it "as is".Private party maybe 2.5k ,especially with the light on.Tough to tell without actually knowing why the light is on.
    Lets see what volvomax says.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Car has no real value to a dealer. MAYBE a grand. Get the CEL issue fixed and put the car on Craigslist.
  • emaisonemaison Member Posts: 60

Spotted these two on autotrader and I'm curious what their trade values are.

'06 5-door Rabbit. Automatic. Heated power cloth seats. No moonroof.
    64k miles. Silver over grey.

'04 V40. Automatic. Cloth. No moonroof. No bun warmers. I guess No power seat, either. yikes.
74k miles. Dark blue over grey.

Not sure which would be the nicer car of these 2. Vmax, is that a 4-speed auto in the V40? Any major problem areas in those?

V40 had a 4 spd auto. Pretty good car.

I'm shocked at the low value for the Rabbit. A 2006 model, that's the current model, right? Miles are high, but wow...
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736
    You and me both.
    Seems like an awesome value.
And, yes, that's current model. Although Rabbit is already dead. Maybe its the name that drives down the value. ;b

Base models were $15k retail when new. Then again you gotta wonder how many were delivered at that price.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736
    But 4-door was $18k. :)
And given the heated power seats and auto trans in this one, I'm thinking $20k is more likely. So a health 25% residual. Welcome to VW country. ;)

    Painful resale.

But a good used car value, I suppose.

I think the 2.5l only made 150hp back then, though.
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
I will never figure out why VW brought back the Rabbit name. As the owner of an 80 Rabbit let me tell you there are no warm fuzzy feelings about the experience.

Meanwhile, while I am in here, what would you have said about that Accord if the CEL wasn't on? I have an 00 EX 5 speed with 170K. Nothing really going on. Just curious.

Tough to say without getting the code pulled. Most likely a cheap easy fix. Gas cap? O2 sensor?

No. no. This works fine. No CEL. Just wondering how much it's worth. I've watched the value do the slow slide over almost ten years. When its time comes it doesn't owe me anything. Just wondering how far down it's slid now...

....I'd definitely just get it fixed, can't be anything 'too' serious. Even with 145k, I'd think you could get $4500 quickly and easily for it on CL or Autotrader, maybe even $5-6 for that 'special' someone who's looking for a 5-speed. Accords, at least in Chicago, get craaaazy money (I've seen some '98-99s at dealers w/200k and they're still asking $5-ish).
  • delthekingdeltheking Member Posts: 1,152
    Jip,you are really funny!! :shades:
Volvomax`s advice was really really helpful to me when I was selling my barely new Odyssey to the dealer and also when buying a pre-owned Nissan Quest which I got for a great bargain.
My rough trade in value is based on looking up Autotrader for similar cars from the same year, mileage and options, getting an average selling value-and deducting about 2k from the average price-which roughly gives the trade value.
    That`s why it`s a guesstimate,not an estimate! ;)

And Mark48186- Did you trade in the car to the dealer or did you sell it outright to him?If you traded in the car,I think probably the dealer overallowed on your trade. What did you buy?And I dont know if the CFC program has driven the price of used cars up from May. ;)
