Kia designs are indeed heavily influenced by Peter Schreyer. Kia hired him away from Audi back about 2006, IIRC.

    So I write to Kohler:
We are looking to replace a toilet in our bathroom. The sink and bathtub are a rose/tan color, possibly called bone, almond, beige or biscuit. Could you mail us color samples so we will know what color to order so it will match. Thanks

This is the reply I got:
Thank you for contacting Kohler Co.

We are sorry you are having difficulty matching the colors of your Kohler products. We do offer color samples, however they are not sent out free of charge. To order samples, please call us at 1-800-456-4537 and request our Literature department.

    KOHLER Customer Care

    This was my reply:
    Hi Nate L

    Thanks for getting back.

When is customer care kind of like....customer is a hassle - to be made money off of any way possible?

You are tossing out a customer who could be making a $200 to $300 purchase, companies pay a lot of advertising bucks to attract a potential customer.

Not sure if I want to deal with this particular company judging by this answer.

That is kind of ridiculous, but, whatever.

Don't mess with old guys :@

Yeah, you are pretty cranky. Don't they have color samples at the store that sells Kohler?
Home Depot doesn't have any color samples. They don't even have any display models of color.....all white only.
You should have cc'ed the head of Kohler, but this is typical of a company that has very little actual contact with their "end user". Pardon the pun.
    lol on the "end user".

I did get a survey asking me 1 to 10 how likely I was based to buy one of their products based on their reply. I told them 2....when I typed out my comments I ran over the allotted space which annoyed me more....so I said I thought if this was their idea of customer service I wasn't too impressed.

I wouldn't replace it unless you are having serious problems.... we have two brand new Kohler units from the addition/remodel.

They are built to be "water saving". I'll leave it at this, they don't perform as well as the older water wasters.

I think I get where you are coming from. I think we are leaning toward leaving this for now....I am getting tired of it and what we have now works fine...our concern was with it failing and causing a flood situation...which seems unlikely now. Here's a page with lots of color chips available for purchase, cheap, to use to verify your color. The pages also give cross indexing for various manufacturers for the colors as well as the toilet seats to purchase to match the color.

    https://www.plumbingsupply.com/closecolorselect.html

That's a good chart, but colors are hard to judge on the computer. Biscuit and almond are carried by the main manufacturers, but, I can't see a difference to know which it would be...and I think there is a 3rd color that comes close too. If you get it wrong.....well the whole bathroom will look like.........

I had to drive up to Palm Beach this morning to have my lease redone due to several issues. One issue had to do with the dates - all of them were incorrect. Showed that the lease (36 months) ended on August 10th, 2020, when it should show Nov. 10, 2020. Next, they were supposed to send me a check for $8200+ as the proceeds from my trade. They sent it out UPS next day delivery on Tuesday, but the check did not come yesterday. They traced the package and found that UPS has mistakenly shipped the envelope package to Orlando. God knows why when the dealership is only 35 miles away. So, their overnight delivery was unsuccessful. Supposedly, the package is to be delivered today, but of course it has not yet arrived. So that was issue 2.

Issue 3 had to do with the money factor. They had used a rate that was incorrect, so they had to reprint the lease and buyer's order again, for a third time. My payment per month went down $25.00. A truly amazingly inefficient, if not scummy, dealership. Getting a great deal from a dealership is one thing - but when you face issues like this, that's another. When a dealership underprices a vehicle by $5500.00, or about 5% less than any competing dealership within 15 miles of me, it's difficult not to buy/lease the vehicle at that dealership. $5500.00 is no small change.

While I'm on the subject of my new car, I noticed something on the way up to the dealership this morning - when I have the car in autonomous cruise control with Adaptive Lane Keeping and Adaptive Blind Spot monitors engaged, if I want to change lanes, all I have to do is put on the directional and the car changes lanes autonomously with no input from me. If is it not safe to change lanes, the car does not change lanes until there is no obstruction or oncoming vehicle. Nice feature.

Mike - sorry to hear about your issues.

I suspect you can put up with a lot of aggravation to save $150/mo on your lease.

I think the Stinger has several problems unrelated to the quality of the car.

First and foremost, I'm virtually certain that Kia dealers will have difficulty selling to customers shopping at the $40k-$50k price point. Hyundai thought their dealers could sell Genesis cars, but they have now decided a separate dealer network is necessary. I've run into a couple of decent Kia salespeople, but the majority are of the "What monthly payment ya lookin' at? What can I do to put ya in a car today?" ilk- who think trailing throttle oversteer is a band that used to open for Journey.

Second, as I've previously alluded to, the value proposition fades when you can pick up a 1-2 year old CPO 440i GC or a new 485 hp V8 Charger for similar money.

It may well succeed, but I think it will be an uphill battle.

There are still plenty of people that prefer new over used. I wonder how many they actually expect to sell? Probably not a huge amount. Could be more of a halo or statement car, that will sell in relatively small numbers. But will know soon enough.

They now make toilets with 2 buttons, one yellow and one brown.

Actually, the one's I have seen have one drop of water on one button, and two drops of water on the other. I think it's 1.1 gallon vs. 1.6 gallon flush.

NYC, speaking of toilets, we have 5 bathrooms in our house and it seems I am constantly replacing the flushing mechanism, the flapper, or making adjustments here and there on these darn things. Has anyone come up with a foolproof flushing mechanism that doesn't have to be replaced every couple of years?

Our newest toilets have a whole different mechanism in the tank. Looks like a big sleeve that lifts up and drops back down. Got 3. 2 are fine. 1 is always having issues, running or getting hung up and not filling. I yank and jiggle on the sleeve or arms to get it to stop but have no clue how or what to adjust or replace to actually fix it.

    Agreed.

I saw the Stinger on a turntable at the Denver Auto Show earlier this year, and the proportions didn't translate as well in person as in pictures. Just not as elegant as a 4-series or A5 in execution.

Now, it's still handsome, and is worthy of consideration. But the discerning shopper who notices the subtle differences in performance and aesthetics between the Kia and the more established BMW and Audi product will likely also be aware of the CPO deals too.

I think the upcoming VW Arteon could offer interesting competition, even though it will be FWD based.

Re: Stinger. Let's not forget that the 255hp model starts at around $32k. So that competes with the Accord Sport, yet with RWD. I would consider that a compelling value argument.

The water in Florida is really hard on flappers and chains. I believe the newer ones use pumping action (so to speak) rather than a lever - tower - chain-rubber flapper - mechanism, that is something from prehistoric days.

isellhondas - this is a temporary home for us, we're renting the lower level out of a vacation lodge here in Manson. I have never tasted any better apple than the honey crisp apples grown here. There are lots of fruit picker's and their families here, lots of fruit stands, smoke in the skies during the summers, and evidently this place is a piece of paradise for those who want to play on Lake Chelan. The Mrs. and I are about ta head down the hill to the Red Apple store and get some nummy's. Apparently WAS plays at DAL tonight in NFL Thursday night football and I'm thinkin' I'll at least take me a look at the game.

Lake Chelan is a beautiful area.  The lake resembles a river more than a lake - Lake of The Ozarks is similar in shape to Lake Chelan.  I took a boat up to the end of Lake Chelan where the snow-capped mountains are just gorgeous.

Yeh Mike....sorry to hear about the problems with your lease arrangements....but then, it just wouldn't be like a new car for you if you didn't run into some major obstacle with the new car......from leaving out certain options to ruining the wheels to having engine problems.
Yep - without the added stress, getting a new car would be boring.  Got the check this afternoon, BTW.

There are still plenty of people that prefer new over used. I wonder how many they actually expect to sell? Probably not a huge amount. Could be more of a halo or statement car, that will sell in relatively small numbers. But will know soon enough.
I prefer new toilets over used ones, stick!  :D

abacomike - there's a part of the lake where it gets real narrow and the guy who lives upstairs from us was taking his kids out in their boat through there. He says unexpected weather strikes that narrow channel in the form of wind at times...his kids were seeing their seats just disappear underneath them several feet as the boat was tossed around!

As far as local towns go neither Manson or Chelan allows a fast-food restaurant. They're either health food nuts or they don't want anything to put their friend's family-owned restaurants out of business. They do allow a Subway inside of the Chelan Wal*Mart.

Sounds like the sort of place that might take ordering organic water seriously. Ask me how I know.

As you travel up the lake, you can pass through several snow squalls- it’s amazing!

Re: Stinger. Let's not forget that the 255hp model starts at around $32k. So that competes with the Accord Sport, yet with RWD. I would consider that a compelling value argument.

Good point. The GT models may trail a bit compared to the German competition, but you're right - put the lower model up against an Accord, and it should be more than competitive.

I'd say I'd go with the Kia over the Accord - not only for the RWD performance, but the sleek hatchback style (while I think the styling is not as elegant as the 4-series or A5, I'd say I like it better than the Honda).

Took a look at the Canadian Kia site. Up here there are only 2 models, the Stinger GT and GT Limited, both with the high-output engine. The Limited gets you more creature comforts and tech gizmos. The GT is in the mid-$40K range while the Limited is around $50K.

It's odd that they don't offer the cheaper entry-level model here given Canada's love for cheap cars. Certainly at those prices few people will be cross-shopping it with the Accord up here.

Wait awhile and see where the price settles. They will start high to see if they can get it......and then drop the price if they don't. Much easier to drop the price than raise it.
