The ground loop / alternator whine noise in the Tundra is slightly noticeable when listening to XM. It's much worse when using CarPlay. I'm going to try putting a ferrite core on the USB cable to see whether that improves it enough to make it tolerable. It's one of those issues where I can just see a dealer either saying there's no issue or blaming it on my phone or the cable (both of which work fine in the Infiniti).

They sell USB ground loop isolators if all else fails.

bopped around in the new car some more today. Wife even took it out for the first time. She said she likes it, which is good. and got it in the garage too so that crisis averted. It really does work nice.

JMonroe, I am sure it is the 8' doors. If I built a place it definitely would have wider ones. Individual 9' would be fine, as would a double door.

Oh, new car has a name now. Daughter insists on that It's name is "Nemo".

I hope Mrs. @stickguy doesn't have any lapses getting the new one in the garage as years go by. That has not been the case with Mrs. @jmonroe even with a double door. So far, she has whacked the passenger side mirrors on the '95 Bonneville (moved in with that beast in 1998), next up the '06 Sonata, finally the 12 Subie. I know she's gonna get the '18 Subie, it's just a matter of time. This all seemed to start when we moved back from SC in 1997. FWIW, when we built our house in SC in 1992 I had a 20 door installed just because.

Surprisingly, she never had a problem when we had 8 and 9 foot doors before we moved South. When I park the Genny it's on the left side and when I pull in the drivers side mirror is only 2 inches from the rubber seal on the left door jam. I do this so when she pulls in she should have plenty of room for her passenger mirror and still have plenty of room to open the drivers door when getting out and not whack the passenger door on my Genny. She gets it right almost all the time but it only takes once. :@

MSRP was $44,025. With discounts we paid $39,900. Trade in was $14,284 (equates with sales tax credit to selling it privately for a little over $15k). Plus we got 60 months at .9% APR. We did a true sign and drive with only the trade as down payment (no money changed hands) and the total interest is about $660. Practically free money!

so, don't know what will happen with the economy and pandemics, but we got a fancy car to take us up to retirement age!

Over $4k off on a nice car? That’s a good deal in my book.

I was surprised it sold for that much. When I was in Ohio RWD trucks were a hard sell. 4WD trucks are the norm and really hold their value well.

Yep, my sister and family are in San Diego.

However, when I lived in CA I had a 4x4 Trooper that I would take off road quite a bit.

The interesting thing about how she does the whacking...it's always done as she is backing out never pulling in. Before she whacked the mirror altogether on her old 2012 Subie, when she hit the right door jam that time all she did was peel off the plastic cover with just a minor scratch on the very edge where the plastic cover made contact with the door jam. I have no idea how she managed to do that. I guess that was some pretty precise whacking. All I had to do was pop it back on. Then came the crushing whack a few months later about 2 or 3 months before I sold it to Carvana when she got the used 2018 Legacy last April. It's been almost a year and the passenger side mirror is still like the day we got it. But like I said before, it's just a matter of time.

I'll jump in on the 4Runner punches, picked this one up a few hours ago. It s the 2007 SR5 4WD that @qbrozen said not to go more than $8k. It's a clean CarFax, 2 owner, straight body, clean inside and out with just under 158K on the clock. Any guesses on this private party sale?

It’s the 2GR V6. 268 HP Is what it made in other applications. Great engine.

we drove one back when. really didn't care for it, other than the drivetrain. felt sloppy and chintzy otherwise.

The seller was asking close to @qbrozen's guess. It's gonna need tires soon and he was getting ready to do an oil change. I got a cashier's check for $6700 and everyone seems happy, especially my three boys!

Nice job. Aren't you glad you didn't have to pay the WAG's from the hip-shooters in here? Using that barometer, you damn near stole it even with having to buy tires.

Excellent. Have your boys wash, wax, and polish the head lights and it will be like new!

@dad23 - sounds like a fair deal, keep us posted. I think the ten year mark is about the point where things become a crapshoot, reliability-wise, even with something like a Toyota or Lexus.

My BMW dealer bought an off-lease 2017 540i xDrive(meh) M Sport. If it wasn't AWD I'd be tempted; it's only a tenth slower to 60 than my 2er- and it would be faster with BMW's MPPS upgrade. It's oddly optioned- virtually every option save the most intrusive nannies. It has 20 way/massage/heated/cooled front seat, HUD, and Bowers & Wilkins audio(a $4,200 option). And I like the Bluestone Metallic paint. A very tempting luxo-cruiser that's almost fast- but not for me.

Given everything that's going on the Prelude will be sticking around awhile. I cancelled 2 showings for this week but everyone was understanding and just asked I let them know when I'll be putting it back on the market.

I put the equinox up yesterday and have gotten 7 inquiries already. Still nothing on dad's truck. Seems backwards to me, but what do I know?

The Equinox will go fast. It's an SUV, decent shape and economical.

My wife out of the blue asked me yesterday when the Enclave goes back. I told her December, but we always get a pull ahead from GM so most likely around the end of the summer.

She then goes on to say she absolutely doesn't want another Enclave. I asked her what she wanted and qualified with asking her if she feels we need a third row. She confirmed that's not necessary.

So, I said how about a nice four door pickup truck? With our lifestyle always going back and forth to the campground, beach every weekend etc I think it's a nice fit. She thinks its a good idea but would want to drive one first.

I could get around the idea of a well equipped Sierra.

I've received a few inquiries and shown it to a handful of people but no one's come back with an offer yet. Right now it's not costing me anything other than insurance so I'm not concerned about holding it an extra month or two until things calm down.

After a few days and maybe 30 miles in a brand new equinox, I can’t understand why either!

T, definitely need to test drive that barge. And do it in tight traffic. Real good chance she won’t be interested in one after trying to maneuver it into the Patco parking lot and around the pike!

Not sure if a Taco or Canyon would be big enough though in the back seat.

End of next year I will seriously look at one for a spare car. Among everything else, since we probably really don’t need one. Not that it usually stops me.

Full-size pickups are just too damn big these days, so that certainly wouldn't work for me. Even the Taco/Colorado/Canyon/Ranger seem too long for my liking.

I might be OK with a Ridgeline, but the styling is just so blah.

Yes, I thought the same thing. She has mentioned getting her a truck before, but I really wonder if she would like daily driving it. Maybe it's just a plot to get the Volvo, lol.

Our lot at the shore is plenty big for two large vehicles, so that's not a problem.

We will see how it shakes out.

I don't think the Taco/Canyon would be big enough for us. We will have my mom with us once it awhile. I'd probably need to get her a step stool.

@dad23 - congrats on the 4Runner! Should be a solid vehicle.

@roadburner - sounds like a nice 5-series...I certainly have a soft spot for 5's. Thinking about it, I've owned an example of each of the last three generations prior to the current model. The reviews seem to indicate the current model is quite an improvement in driving dynamics over the previous (F10?) - is that consistent with your experience?

HMM.. yeah that would work.

I'm partial to the GM trucks and with a pull ahead and damage waiver may come out ahead.

I'll have to do the math on everything. There is about $1000 damage to the rear passenger door that my wife did when the Enclave brand new. With the pull ahead they usually include a damage waiver. I would have to see if it's enough to cover that. I think it was $1000 on the last one I did.
