To me, it was a sellout. Daimler Benz needed Chrysler's cash reserves and their C Suite cashed out.That’s the way I understood it. I bought my 2000 Chrysler mainly because I liked the Mitsubishi engine but also because it was a design from 1996 which was just before Daimler took over.
Also it was cheap.

I usually don't post Studebaker stuff here but this is a 253-mile car, third from last built, on Bring A Trailer now. The car was bought with 100 miles less than a year ago. It's a plain-jane '66 Commander six four-door with stick, in the unusual 'Spring' color of "Plum Metallic".
Being sold by the guy who bought my '66 Cruiser in 2023.
Not a real desirable model, even among Stude folks, but the color, condition, mileage, and provenance make me wonder what it will go for. It's up to $10K pretty early in the sale process.

If you get the chance, read the book "Taken for a Ride", which is a detailed account of the Daimler-Chrysler merger.A horrible crime on what used to be Chrysler/Dodge/Ram. Corporate mergers, acquisitions for those acquired typically not good. Prime example.
Not a merger of equals, but a full blown takeover.
