I purchased my new 2005 CRV SE in white. It joins our 2000 CRV SE, also in white, now with almost 90,000 trouble free miles.
I paid $24,000 including dest. charge. Sales tax i will pay in cash. Options included in the price were OEM mud flaps, OEM fog lights, and OEM roof rack rails.
I have already ordered a Perfect Fit Hood shield for it, will arrive next Monday.
Got Honda's 2.9% financing for 60 months. I was quite pleased with the deal.
My wife and I pick it up on Thursday night 12/30 @ NJ Honda dealer
I am buying my 2005 CRV SE tomorrow from a dealer in Indianapolis. I talked them down $1,500 off of the sticker price for grand total of $24,065 including destination charge and mud flaps.
I'm pretty pleased with the deal and I'm pretty sure that I'll get the 2.9% deal too.
I am in NY, and I know the VA's auto sale tax is much lower than that of NY. SO, for the same CR-V, the out-of-door price will be usually $1000 lower.
My question is: can I ask my friend livinb in VA to buy the new car and then transfer the title to me as a gift. If we do this, what is the tax obligation for both of us? Does my friend need to pay gift tax? I know I do not need to pay auto tax if I register the car in NY, but Do I need to pay income tax because, officially, I receive this big gift from my friend?
You would be playing a dangerous game. Technically, you would have to pay sales tax when you receive the "gift" (and no, I don't believe your friend is just going to give it to you - and Albany will not believe you either!) Also, be aware that schemes intended to evade paying taxes constitute a separate crime.
Moreover, you would be evading Virginia's "personal property tax" which is levied on property of value that is removed from the state!
I signed the contract last Wednesday, and the dealer promised that I would have it by Monday (12/27), well, it's now Wednesday - a week later, and still no car. He said that there is a winter storm in Ohio, and apparently, they're holding delivery of many of the vehicles. Is anyone else having a similar problem?? One good thing is that he has deducted another $150 from the total price.
Not sure where you live, or if the CR-V is even coming through Ohio (they don't make them there yet).... but, it is the mother of all winter storms... believe me.. It could hold up things for a couple of weeks, no doubt..
I'm not saying it's the dealer's fault - they've actually been quite nice about the whole situation. I live in NY and was just wondering if anyone else was having the same problems...
I'm also in the market for a 4WD LX. Per your earlier post re: $19,400 offer from Planet Honda (Union, NJ), I would love to get more information, i.e., the particular salesperson's contact information.
I'm also shopping around at Metro Honda (Jersey City), Potamkin (NY), and Bay Ridge Honda (Brooklyn). I've been steered toward the last two by Carsdirect... and am considering buying directly through Carsdirect as well. Though I think I might be able to do better than $20,565 straight offer by Carsdirect, I hate haggling and I've bought my family's previous car (02 Camry) through them before.
My credit score was over 700 and I think the 2.9 is available until January 5th. The dealer we bought from did not fight us on it but another dealership did.
Purchased the car yesterday in central NJ. The best quote I got was around $18500 including dest. charge (500 below invoice). I thought the price was good so I did not even bother to negotiate. The experience was pleasant.
I am in NY, and I just called Sheehy honda dealer in washington, dc. They guy told me he could sold
the 2005 Lx, 4WD, Cr-v, auto to me at 19,500.
he will put a temporary tag on it, and then I drive back to NY. I will regisiter my vehicle in NY and pay NY's 8.25% tax.
The guy said SUV was not so popular in DC area because of warmer weather than in NY and CT.
So, the total price (excluding insurance) is aroud: $21300
do you guys have this experience before, can I trust him. He may ask me to fly there and then negotiate with me based on the fact that I am from NY, and already paid some travel fee.
luwangming2001, I'm pretty much in the same situation. Make them to put everything down with a sales manager signature and your OTD total and fax it to you. Do not drive nowhere and do not give them any credit card number as a deposit if you don't have a piece of paper on you.
Finally got our 2005 CR-V LX FWD over the Christmas weekend. Got a price of 18,388 before TTL, which is 600 under invoice. This is from Autowest Honda. I have no idea how they are making a profit at that price!
Yes I just did. Half an hour ago I got home from the dealer in my new CR-V.
18,925 for an LX 4WD silver. So I end up paying 20908 out the door. Because I don't have enough credit history the offered me 4.9 in the beginning but I got it for 3.9. I could go to a different dealer but it's hard to believe they would have match the price.
I put down 1000 and now I'm stuck for 5 years with 365 a month.
The dealer is in Michigan (kind of far from you) and the secret in getting a very low price is not to talk with a sales person. Cut the middleman and ask for the person who can take a decision in that dealership.
Actually I would recommend to everybody to buy James Bragg's book. It's the guy that founded fightingchance.com. I paid $17 for the book and save myself thousands buying a new car.
Cawood in Port Huron. If you live south of Metro Detroit try Brown Honda in Toledo. If you live west try Brighton Honda in Brighton. They all give me pretty much the same deal. The guys in Metro Detroit didn't even come close with their bids. They were more than $1000 away.
P.S. You might have to make your move today. End of the year is important for them and for Honda.
thanks a lot, I did call cawood and talked with linda, she said she just sold you the crv last night. and she is willing to give me the similar price, but it is next monday since they will be close at 12 today. thanks man, i hope everything will work out
When England starts making diesel CR-Vs, US production is going to shift to Ohio... My guess is once that happens, Japanese made CR-Vs will pretty much disappear from the U.S.
The best idea is to request a purchase order. Find a fax and give them the number. Make sure everything is included and the total (OTD) price at the bottom. I live in MI and I paid taxes (almost 1200). I believe they can charge you NY taxes. The guys in Ohio ask me how much are the taxes in MI before they give me an OTD estimate. So, I guess you can make it easy on yourself by paying everything when you pick up your Honda.
My wife and I drove home yesterday in our beautiful Silver 2005 EX CR-V. We live in South Dakota with one Honda dealership in town and the next one 6 hours away! So I was happy with getting it for $22,800 with the mud flaps. I've heard from a friend that anything less than MSRP is pretty good for that dealer around here. But T & L here is only about $729.00! I spent today just driving aroud for the fun of it, I love it !!
Dealers can charge the sales taxes where you live. If you live in New York, they can charge the New York sales taxes. JUST MAKE SURE THAT THE SALES TAXES ARE IDENTIFIED AS NEW YORK SALES TAXES ON YOUR RECEIPT. Then, when you go to register your vehicle in New York you will have proof that you paid the sales tax. Otherwise Dept. of Motor Vehicles will collect the sales tax from you!
This site was really helpful to me, and I wanted to add my data to it for any of you about to negotiate your own deal.
We got the Pewter SE for invoice ($23,651, including destination)after only a bit of negotiation. They may have gone lower, but I might have paid more, too. Who knows. We bought from Duthler Honda in Grand Rapids, and thus far have had a good experience with them.
Good luck, and thanks for all of the helpful information.
We got our brand new eternal blue pearl CR-V on Friday night for $20,882 (including retractable cargo cover) - plus tax, title and license. Out the door price was just over $22K I believe - (gotta check records) - 2.9% financing for 5 years.
Buying on New Year's Eve - they just wanted to get the car out the door. I don't think we could have done any better on price, so we are pretty happy.
"We got our brand new eternal blue pearl CR-V on Friday night for $20,882 (including retractable cargo cover) - plus tax, title and license. Out the door price was just over $22K"
Congrats for your new CR-V, rdw! What model you got LX, EX or SE? Auto or manual? How do you like it so far? Any pictures to share? Have fun with your new 'toy'.
Ok guys, here we go, using the price above let me know if my calculation makes sense. I know it will be a little bit complex, but I try to explain it as simple as I can.
Invoice price for LX 4WD on Edmund is $19,580 and deep_purple got it for $18,925 (Good Job!) That is $655 lower. Using that formula, if I convert it to LX FWD, so invoice price for LX FWD on Edmund is $18,473 - $655 = $17,818 (vehicle only).
Can I use this amount to negotiate with Honda's dealer(s)?
If that includes destination, you killed. Even if it didn't include destination, you at least maimed.
Actually, I don't really understand that deal. If the invoice price for the 2005 EX (including destination) is $22083, and you paid $20,882, you bought it for over $1,200 under invoice. If you figure the 3% Honda holdback nets out at a bit over $700, the dealer would have sold the car to you for over $500 less than he paid for it. Even if your price did NOT include destination, the dealer still lost money on this deal.
Well the FWD's holdback is a few bucks lower than AWD's but you still can make the $655 below. I believe that dealerships receives more than holdback from Honda.
Mikev, my post above is for LX FWD which I wanna get. To convert to another model, just substract $655 from invoice price on Edmunds (vehicle only! handling is not included).
So for 2005 EX Auto as you calculated above, in my formula it will be $21,568 - $655 = $20,913 (without destination) or $21,428 including destination.
The invoice price on Edmunds is not the "exact" price, the actual invoice is lower than that, consumer reports' invoice is closer to the actual invoice as other poster said in this forum, but we can use edmunds' as a number that close to the actual invoice as dealer bought the vehicle.
As I said on my post above, I'm not sure if this formula can be used in the real world, but at least we can have a number to start to negotiate.
Remember, the retractable cargo cover was also included in the deal so it's even less under invoice, woohoo! - oh, and the price DID INCLUDE destination -only extras were T, T & L
as far as dealer making/losing $$ - well, they definitely did not make money on this deal - but Honda was giving them more $$ back since they had already sold so many cars (at least, this is how the salesman explained it to me) - so they could offer it at a lower price.
Salesman just wanted it out the door for volume - purchase was completed 12/31 - so he didn't make $$ - but he did make volume.
2.9% financing didn't hurt either - woohoo! I thought it was a good deal - glad we waited till the last second
After haggling with dealers via email and phone, I was able to negotiate $200 under invoice for 2005 CRV EX AUTO Satin Siver in color. I spoke with approx 8 dealers and decided to go with Voss Honda 15 min north of Dayton Oh. Invoice of $21865 + $515 Destination= $22083. I paid $21883 for vehicle plus $100 dealer processing fee and $15 title fee. My next door neighbor is a district sales manager for Honda and stated he could not do better than this deal. He stated that he would not sell that vehicle for that price as the salesperson would make minimum commision and the dealer would take a loss. I asked about the $700 cash back from Honda and he said this was for the overhead ie. maintaining the building. electric etc. I see other posts with better deals so good luck.
mikee1 per the host i am not allowed to post names of salespeople, telephone numbers, contact info etc. i see that your email address is private, as is mine so i can't email you the info. Who you spoke with is not who i dealt with. Good luck
Just picked up an SE, and was surprised to see that the hard cover is not key-locked on. The dealer says these retail for $500. That's a lot of $$ to just secure with a zipper. Much easier to steal and more expensive than a tire/rim. Am I just being paranoid? Has anyone heard of these being stolen? Is there a fix anyone has developed to reduce likelihood?
cool! It was an '05 - I think the dealer had a little more room b/c Honda gave them $$ back based on the # of cars they had sold - got him to throw in the cargo cover too - they just wanted it out the door for year end sales - I won't complain
Anyone know how the deals have changed for January? We leased in Dec. because we thought we would get a worse deal in Jan. even though our current leased car doesn't end until end of Jan.

So, which state are you living? Before you went there, you got fax about the out-of-door price with saleperson's and manager's signatures? right?
Do you still have to pay tax in your state?
Do you guys have any sense about the difference between the england-made and japan-made crvs? Do we have a newsgroup to talk about this?
Happy new year.
