IIRC the X1 I test drove last year had everything but M sport and it was around $46K. I'd say @28firefighter is probably right in the ballpark.

Looks like the one RB tagged at minimum has premium, M sport, Nav, HK stereo and driver assist package. What i can’t tell is if it has driver assist plus, technology, and a couple others. Easily minimum $47-48k list if not more.

Good eyes; it has these packages:
    Cold Weather
    Driving Assistance
    M Sport
    Premium
    Technology
Plus, it has H-K and a heated steering wheel.

    A 2019 would run at least $46k.

The X1s depreciate fast. My wife’s 2016 with 21k miles and an original MSRP of $46k is now worth $20-$22k wholesale it seems.

I think $29-$30k has to be all the money.

2016 was the first year of the redesign? I can never seem to remember that.

Now, that car in the low 20's, is certainly a viable option for us.

well, good thing is, if they have it way overpriced, it takes the pressure off. Either they find a sucker so you were never getting it anyway, or it sits gathering dust on the lot so you have plenty of time to search.

@28firefighter- I agree that $30k is a good price; still, I went to https://cpo.bmwusa.com and searched in a 500 mile radius of Louisville for 2017-2018 CPO X1 M Sports. This is what I found:
There are twelve 2018 models and four 2017.
The cheapest 2017 was $29,999; it was equipped like the Rahal X1 but had 6,400 more miles on it.
The cheapest 2018 was $31,487 with no options save the M Sport package. Most everything else with a decent option set had less than 10,000 miles and were pushing $39,000 or more.

You know @breld, not that I want to add fuel to your CCBA purchasing fire nor do I want to rain on your Prelude/Early to Mid 2000 BMW parade, but with “the cleanest, lowest mileage, car that these people don’t even want to sell” having asking prices on the high side for 10+ year old cars that will NEED SOMETHING (even in your short ownership period).  You might as well spend a little bit more money and try to get your hands on a CPO 2014ish ///M235i RWD Coupe.  I’m not a huge fan of the “plain Jane” 2er, but those cars really catch my eye.  If it keeps @roadburner happy, you might just like it.  Have you ever driven an ///M235i?

The problem is on that car, most places will not give a premium for M Sport but will ask for one on the sale side. If you had to have it, I’d shoot over an offer for $31k and see if they jump. I bet they do with 2019s hitting the lot. Worst they say is no.

The dealer has had it since 8/27 and has apparently installed front brakes and updated some of the firmware. It got new tires 2000 miles ago as well.
Might as well shake the tree and see what falls out...

I’d also consider making the offer pending a PPI, if they allow it. Mostly just to get expert eyes on it and anything glaring fixed under warranty. If you want to, PM me and I can recommend a BMWCCA legend from those parts.

Not that I’m actively shopping any kind of BMW, but when I was into BMWs the M Sport or just plain old Sport Package Cars always seemed to command a much higher asking price to the point that it turned me off.

They used to give you a slightly lowered suspension (maybe 1/2") on RWD models, black trim around the windows, that nice 3 spoke steering wheel, MUCH nicer wheels, better tires, the ever important sport seats. Now they make you buy the "adaptive suspension." How many CPO cars out there are going to have it? Whichever ones do will be loaded 335/340 which have original stickers of the upper $50K - just over $60K. As it has been mentioned, dealers seem to ask The Kings Ransom for them.

The RWD M Sport cars usually get an M Sport suspension; it's the AWD vehicles that get stuck with the standard suspension. However, on the X1 you can spec a non-adaptive M Sport suspension, and this X1 does have it.

Not a bad idea at all. You may remember I was all hot on the trail to get an M235i to replace the Civic Type R earlier in the year. So yes, I have driven them and yes, I definitely enjoyed it!

I've been watching too much Hoovie's Garage.

My favorite local dealer -- the one with the pipeline from the Subaru/VW dealer -- has this on his lot:
    2006 Audi A3 2.0T 5-door. I think that's the only way they came.
This on is a 5-speed, dark gray metallic over beige leather. I've only seen it in artifical light but it says "one owner" to me. Clean, good body -- some rust bubbles by the driver's side front wheel well, otherwise good. Definitely garaged, so this may be a worthy beater. We get a lot of foreign college folk here -- I should know -- and their cars are often a size down from the average but well above in terms of maintenance.
No price on it yet and I don't know enough details to ask for any values.
I ran the VIN on 'vehiclehistory.com', which is a pretty decent no-cost version of carfax, but I'm getting NO hits. WAUNF78P56A18100 I took a picture of it so it's not a transcription error.

Ten years ago I kept an 'unlimited' account with autocheck, which was great aside from the ''confirm you're not a dealer, you scammer" emails every couple days, but that's gone. If I can't buy it by the pound, I ain't playin'..

It's basically Audi's version of the GTI.
2006 was the first year, and it was in production all the way through 2013, I think. I flipped a 2013 TDI model in the dieselgate payoff.

Nice car, but not cheap to maintain, I wouldn't think. Compare it to any 2006 GTI, as far as repairs/maintenance

It's a fwd stick, as mentioned, and I've not a clue as to miles or asking price.
It's locked, unlike many of his cars, so no extra information available. Often I find a glove box full of receipts...but no luck here.
It's a good thing I have a short attention span... a pretty and needy little thing like that may not be in my best interest. It's always this time of year that deals pop up, though... I'd have been all over that instead of leasing a Cruze hatch.. which I find quite enjoyable, btw. BEST seat heaters, ever. It's been cold in Michigan.

@steine13 -- CARFAX looks good. One-owner, timing belt at 93K, lots of service records, all at the same place --Williams Auto World. No accidents. It had 141,000 miles in August of this year, and, for an Audi, that does want to make you blow air out of your cheeks.

Oh, dear.... Talk about yer rookie mistakes. WAUNF78P56A181000. I typed it correctly into vehiclehistory.com, then highlighted it with the mouse and missed a digit. Mea culpa.

Shifty got it right of course, Williams "Money World" as it's known around here is indeed the local VW/Audi/Subaru dealer. There ought to be a law... those brands under one roof in a rust belt town with a large, internationally known university -- it's just not right.
Until they sold part of the business, they also owned the Mercedes AND BMW franchises. Only in Michigan...

The Audi is gone, as near as I can tell. Maybe it's at a shop for some repairs, but I bet it sold instantly. The last time this happened, a couple months ago, it was a super clean 2007 Toyota Sienna that looked way better than it should have. I was having indecent thoughts about checking it out and what my '17 Dodge might be worth... and it was gone in one day. Might have to have a little chat with the owner about how this works.

The reason I'm up to date on his dealership is that I drive my wife to work and pick her up in the fall and spring, when she teaches at the community college three miles from here. It simplifies transport and parking. On the way back, I have to stop at a red light with a great view of the lot.
I know he gets the low-end cars from the above-mentioned store, and they sure don't pay much for trade-ins. So even after the double mark-up, there are good deals to be had, and I've funneled a few to friends and colleagues.

    >> Besides, that one digit could give you 10 different cars with very different histories.

Not really... unless the check digit is wrong, there is only one valid solution.
Which doesn't absolve me from getting the VIN right in the first place, of course.

Those early A3's are becoming known as the Audi 200,000 mile with no major problems workhorse (if properly maintained). I don't think the Mexican built GTI's had nearly the same quality control.

I guess I know what you mean with the check digit thing, but I never fully understood it. It is supposedly randomly generated, and obviously limited to 10 choices, so it definitely does not mean there is only one solution. You could very easily have 2 vehicles built within 10 vehicles of each other that wind up with the same check digit.

Autocheck has nothing on the 0 vin. Just says last reported mileage was 10.

EDIT: Ah! Never mind. I just did some reading on how check digits can be designed. They aren't random. I never thought how you could combine all 6 digits in different ways to generate one check digit. Very interesting.

Thank you! Dealer offered 25K knowing it needs about 1,800 to fix the rear air suspension.

You don’t want this .... it’s our run around vehicle at work.  One of the old VPs has a brother that runs a Chevy dealer in upstate NY.  We bought two years ago and the company has sunk about $7500 in it.

Rear air shocks rusted and failed, muffler rotted out.   Brake problems and now the harnesses to the rear air suspension are severely corroded and have to be replaced.   All four 20” wheels have trouble sealing the tires and we are constantly adding air.

It was on off lease return that lived a very hard life up there.   Rusty, money pit.  When I saw it on a lift I told the powers that be it needs to go.

    This is a 2013 with 50k.
    Remarkable.

I guess I’m gonna keep my 2009 with 125k, then, it’s been a gem, so far!

Parts of upstate NY are like living in a salt bath. Cars age quick if you never clean the undercarriage.

^This, though I can't speak for upstate NY, I can attest to this in parts of Philly and Western PA. During winter storms and for some time after until the roads dried up, we used to hose down the wheel wells and undercarriage of the fire trucks after every call. It was the only way to protect them, which was necessary because ladders were on a 20 year replacement cycle and engines on 15 year replacement cycles.

@steine13 -- CARFAX looks good. One-owner, timing belt at 93K, lots of service records, all at the same place --Williams Auto World. No accidents. It had 141,000 miles in August of this year, and, for an Audi, that does want to make you blow air out of your cheeks.

How did you do that with a missing digit?

Dear Q ( or anyone who wants to jump in).

I'm working with some good friends trying to help them buy a large, used SUV with 3 row seating and some luggage space.

Basically we are talking Suburbans or Expeditions.

So anyway, I found a 2012 Expedition Limited, 4X4, fully loaded with most options except sunroof and 20" wheels---otherwise pretty packed vehicle.

    Condition is exceptional---pristine.

    Miles are a bit high -- 105,000.

We dickered back and forth for almost an hour and I advised my friend to finally up his offer to $17,500 "all in" (8.75% California sales tax, all dmv fees, etc).

I thought this offer was MORE THAN FAIR--basically offering to pay $16,100 for the vehicle.

The dealer just dug in and wouldn't budge off of $18,700 all in. So we are $1,000 apart.

    Am I missing something here?

Is this an EL? For some reason, the standard one is actually worth more than the EL. I think you are spot on for an EL, but the dealer's offer is fair for a standard.
