Let me guess; the Wrangler family found out that a JK is noisy, has a stiff ride, limited storage space, and doesn't handle that well on pavement...

I am thinking of trading in my 2012 Ford Fusion on a 2016 Fusion Titanium, and would like to know a realistic trade value for it.

    My car:
2012 Ford Fusion SEL 2.5 4 cyl, FWD, auto transmission
    43,000 miles
no accidents, good condition, one owner - non-smoker
tires about 1 year or so left on them
    leather seats
    power sunroof
    Sony stereo - with Sync
    Exterior dark grey
    interior gray

I am in zip code 75098, Wylie, Texas, the dealer with the Fusion I am interested in is about 90 miles away on other side of the Dallas metroplex. Their zip code is 76087, Weatherford, TX.

Also, if I decided to go a non-Ford route, say for a Camry or another car, how much would the trade value change? Thank you!

Q is not the post office. That zip is Weatherford Texas.

    wrangler = $30k-$31k

Fusion = tough one for some reason. i'm seeing a good range, even if I just focus on Texas. Could be $8k up to maybe $9k, depending on how the used car manager feels about it.

Thank you qbrozen....they offered me $7500, I balked at that. The salesman came back and said they would not lose my business over a "few hundred dollars", but my counter to him was admittedly high. I expected them to come back with something, but they haven't. I guess they weren't too far off from your low figure....I had asked for $11,000 expecting they would negotiate somewhat.....
  • steine13steine13 Member Posts: 2,825
I think you ran hard up against what Q called "... up to $9". And from a distance, I'd say that $7,500 is purty low for a 4-year-old car with low miles, bad tires, and otherwise no bad habits.

The time of the year doesn't help -- you'd see a little more enthusiasm around tax return time I would think -- but not a whole lot more.

I'm rambling... what I really mean to say is this: At the middle-to-upper end of the market, we appear to be in normal times again. It finally makes sense again to buy used.

And of course there are plenty of good $3,000 cars around. But those still cost $5k.

I think the used car market is slowly moving back towards normalcy. But not used trucks. Used 1/2 ton pickup trucks are still insanely expensive. You can buy a new one, drive it 2 years, and trade it in for a new one for almost no difference.

Yeah, exactly. I was buying into the whole "last month of the year" hype....plus I think this particular Fusion Titanium has been on their lot a little while. They advertised it one weekend with a discount and rebates at just over $29,000, then on Monday it was back up to almost $32,000. It is optioned out the way I would like it and the color is right too. I will probably just sit tight.

That's a big price difference for a 3-4 year newer version of the same car. I ran into the same thing recently when I thought of upgrading my 2013 Tundra to a 2016. The price difference was too great for me to accept. Never even went to the dealer. I only looked because I like some of the new features on the 2016.

Did they make updates to the Fusion that you are interested in?

Yes, this is the new model, my 2012 was the last year of the previous model. The one I am interested in has the bells and whistles I would like, back up camera, navigation, heated/cooled seats, blind spot monitoring, etc. My 2012 is a good car, I just really like the looks of the new model, plus all the tech and safety features.

Can anyone tell me what the recent Mannheim Market Report values have been on used 2015 X5 x35i vehicles with low miles (e.g. 5,321)?

A 2015 model with 5k miles? I expect very very few of those have gone through auctions.

that just isn't enough info. There are 4 submodels in that group (assuming you mean xdrive, otherwise there are 8 models between xdrive and sdrive). Also depends on options, colors, and location. To give an example, when I look at base model xdrive, I've got $45k, $47k, $53k, and $49k.

yup. the Lexus dealer near me is huge, and I bet i couldn't find 1 RWD new car on their lot. Add in the summer tires, and it needs to stay down south.

Manufacturers have convinced the masses that you need either FWD or AWD for all driving conditions save perfectly flat and dry pavement.

x5 - still tough. Without nav, I'll have to go kinda low on it at about $45k.

Sat in a 2014 X1, white over beige down in South Florida. Manual seats which surprised me and also 41K on the clock, a bit high to be honest. Looked to be a base model with a slushbox but the vinyl wasn't half bad. Also liked that it wasn't as tall as my Tucson was. But the high miles killed it for me and never even inquired about the price.
But it did look nice, especially in that color combo.

Do you seat pretty high up in the X1?
  • Sandman6472Sandman6472 Member Posts: 7,218
No, that was the nice thing about it, I just slid in and out of the front seats easily. The rears were pretty Highly doubt that the dealer will have that X1 very long...they also had an X3 and an X5 but those were just way too big. Think I'm falling in lust with German vehicles to be honest, just not sure I could deal with one that is constantly having issues. So far, our A3 has been absolutely flawless and the few issues on my Golf have been corrected. Would hope that there'd be more German makes with Japanese/Korean dependability, there must be more than the A3 I'm betting.

It's nice to see that you're including Korean cars in with the Japanese for dependability. That certainly has been the case with each of my 3 Kia's. Throw in the generous Warranty and what I call great body styling and there you have my business case for buying Kia-Korean. There was a time that sentence of yours would only include Japanese cars.

I didn't use the 6 year 100k mile BMW CPO warranty on the X3 once; the only non-scheduled visit was a recall for the passenger seat SRS sensor. No other repairs required until 130k miles.
In contrast, my Mazda needed a turbo and a front strut before 30k miles, a variable valve timing actuator at 47k miles, and an EGR valve at 65k.

Well, that just proves my point...dependability is now pretty high with most vehicles and any vehicle can have a problem. These last 10 to 20 years has seen the playing field leveled to such a point that most vehicles are reliable and type casting is no longer the norm that it used to be. Was hoping for just such a response from some folks in here...and my point was made!
    Thanks!!!
