Lot of posts by Mark SHILLING his own website and begging people to vote for him.

Mark has not gone far from his roots and now sounds like an angry pissed off paid BMW SHILL who most likely is starting to feel the heat that LEXUS has brought to the table. His article is far from balanced and his bias toward BMW is showing like a guy in a Speedo with a 3rd degree sunburn and bad case of poison oak wandering in the middle of the woods.

Can someone please find and post a decent link that has all the pricing information for all the option packages and standard features
    in the IS 250/350
    Thank you,

The new Lexus IS350 is such a ridiculous car. It set out a target to beat BMW, but it turned out to be even less driver satisfying than the first generation IS.

That's the exact problem with BMW lovers. They thought everyone is set out to beat BMW in term of handling defined by BMW itself.

As the most selling lux brand in North America (possibly the world soon), Lexus plays its own game. They will not set their goals so low as to beat a BMW 3. Lexus cars are/will be the standard of industry and envy of competitors. The trend if favouring Lexus now, as Toyota is the world's No.1 car company in terms of stock value and profit; they have got the cash for long term research.

Uh to some of us Lexus is the same as Infiniti and Acura. No better, no worse. Well, actually a little worse as Acura and Infiniti have a leaning toward performance.

Uh to some of us Lexus is the same as BMW and Mercedes. No better, no worse. Well, actually a little better as BMW and Mercedes have a leaning toward breaking down.

    3,125

    so that gets us

Leather, Air/heat seats, woodtrim and AWD for 3,125 seems kinda high? Am I missing something?

Leather is standard on the RWD, as well...

If you use Audi and BMW as a benchmark, AWD adds around $2K to the MSRP.

I don't want to. lol. BMW AWD system is way overpriced.. I believe Audi quattro is standard on alot of models and only an option on maybe just the A4? Could be wrong.

    Okay.. try this...

    Lexus GS300 RWD.. MSRP $43,800

    Lexus GS300 AWD.. MSRP $45,750

    Looks like $1950 for AWD...

Besides the engine and VSC vs. VDIM, are there any other differences?

Is there some other equipment standard on the 350 which isn't on the 250?

Agreed. All german makes are scary unreliable. That's the shining reason for my interest in Lexus.
  • tyorder1tyorder1 Member Posts: 25
This is true. My family has owned a 3 series, A4, A6, and a M430 suv. All have had substantial issues. While the 3 lexus that we've had have come, knock on fake wood, problem free. Not to leave out, one Infiniti from the early days, a J30t, which was problem free as well. Don't get me wrong, I loved the German cars, I just didn't like the problems and boy did they have alot, especially Mercedes.

From 5.6 to 5.3 seconds. Wow. For all of you complaining about lack of a manual, GET OVER IT. Why aren't you guys complaining about AMG cars not having manuals, as they are supposed to be THE performance marque for Mercedes. The IS350 is what it is, for the 1st year it's out. It's not like most of you will be out doing slaloms every day anyhow. I recall the G35 not having a manual in its first year run too. Lexus has stated, if demand and interest warrant a manual, then they will deliver. In the meantime, just wait. If you really want a 3 series then go buy one, but the IS350 with a starting MSRP of $35k+ is competitive, regardless of a manual.

How many luxury-sport sedans have 300+HP and retail for under $40K ? The answer is quite simply ONE: IS350. No car in the NA market today with the level of luxury, refinement, safety, electronics, and power of the IS350 is listed anywhere south of $40K !!!! This car is quite literarily, the fastest Lexus car in production TODAY...(until the GS460 gets here next year) So why do people think this car should sell for less than its $36K list (incl destination) ??? Know what a 300HP Porsche will run you ? Or a BMW, or an MB, or an Audi ??? Lexus does NOT price the car compared to Acura or Infiniti; Lexus is quite honestly way ABOVE these lower-tiered brands. Lexus today has earned a rep to be with the higher echelons - MB, BMW, Audi, ... That is the yardstick to measure the IS350....

I am a buyer at $42K OTD. Base IS350 + Nav/ML package. For now, I am looking to buy the wife an LX470 and next it will be my turn to take care of me. If I know for a FACT that a coupe/vert is due out next year, then I'd wait for that. Hopefully, it comes with a 6MT...

Apparently, Canadian prices came out today. Have any of you Canadians found information on this?

Every time an AMG product is tested, not having a manual tranny is one of its few lows.

I think Lexus will produce a M/T for the 350 next year. This way Toyota will be able to keep up with demand easier. Next year the IS will be a year old and sales will be down a little. When people see that a M/T is available many will flock back and buy it. If Toyota produced a M/T now it would be too hard to keep up with demand. By releasing a M/T next year it will ensure strong sales for it second year as well. Lets hope I'm right.

From 5.6 to 5.3 seconds. Wow. For all of you complaining about lack of a manual, GET OVER IT. Why aren't you guys complaining about AMG cars not having manuals, as they are supposed to be THE performance marque for Mercedes.

    Would never consider an AMG..

The IS350 is what it is, for the 1st year it's out. It's not like most of you will be out doing slaloms every day anyhow. I recall the G35 not having a manual in its first year run too.

Uh, you're wrong. The MT6 arrived within the same model year. The G35 released in March and by January of 03 the MT6 came on the scene.

Lexus has stated, if demand and interest warrant a manual, then they will deliver.

Actually they have never said such a thing. If you find a quote, please post it. I've spoken directly to people at Lexus HQ here in so cal and always the same response: apologies but not even a peep about the manual. They have strongly suggested I try the car anyway. Which will happen.

In the meantime, just wait. If you really want a 3 series then go buy one, but the IS350 with a starting MSRP of $35k+ is competitive, regardless of a manual.

Depends on the options you think are imperative.Sport, 18s and xenons on the IS350 are a must for me. That means a sticker of around 40k. Even with negotiating that only gets the car down to ~38k. That's a tad pricey considering one can get a G35, TL and 330i with the same wanted elements for less money with a little effort.
  • sixfivesixfive Member Posts: 45
So let me get this right. The steering quality is numb and the handling is not quite up to the existing BMW/G35 standard - according to the press and some reviews I've read by enthusiasts and somehow the zealous Lexi followers turned this weakness into a strength by suggesting that the IS re-defines the driving experience??? You can call BMW's crap or what have you but they do drive the way god intended - with feedback. Numb is not good for a sports sedan with that kind of power. Being connected is important for enthusiast drivers. If you want speed and don't care about anything else, this is your car...and looks pretty sweet too. :)

Then go to get a BMW...
  • gtoskylinegtoskyline Member Posts: 68
IS 350 is just better than BMW 330i, plain and simple.

So called good handling car for daily driving = pain of [non-permissible content removed].
  • sdiver68sdiver68 Member Posts: 125
To call Lexus higher than the revamped Infiniti line-up of Sports Cars is a large stretch indeed.
The M is world conquering, according to every review. Conquest sales backs up the reviews, as does best residual value.
The G ate into 3 series BMW sales big time, and still may be the best near-luxury car, when you factor in the electronic nanny of the IS.
Lexus has no real competitior to the G coupe, nor the FX which is the best handling, fastest SUV this side of a twin-turbo Cayenne.

Now, as Luxury cars, granted Lexus has nearly every other marque by the short hairs.

I'm looking into the AWD 250...for my fiance. It's looks like a great car for HER. And to another poster, $3125 seems edit out [very] reasonable for AWD, leather - Edit out, wood, climate controlled seats.
  • blueguydotcomblueguydotcom Member Posts: 6,249
leather is standard already on the car. so it's 3k for wood, climate controlled seats and awd.

btw, G35 sales are strong and great but they haven't hit sales of the e46 or e90. not sure where they're coming from but the TL, 3 and G35 are all selling well. Now A4 sales and IS300 sales have been dropping for years...

Given the higher than expected prices I'll be shocked if the IS does much damage at all to TL/G35 sales.
  • sdiver68sdiver68 Member Posts: 125
ohhh, sorry, then make it reasonable for AWD, wood, and climate seats

I didn't mean to suggest the 3 series was hurting, rather that the G (and now M) sales are all conquest sales I would think mostly from the 3 (and now 5 series)

let me begin by saying i enjoy this forum so much as i have learned a great deal with all the different opinions. Being the indecisive person that i am, i cant make up my mind with which car to get. I am going to lease a car within the next month and my options are the IS250AWD, G35x, RL (if priced right) and the 325xi. I need awd b/c NY gets hammered sometimes. I am 27 and i want a sports luxury sedan. I am not a fanatic with speed so horsepower isnt the end of the world but i would still like to pass by cars, ya know. The IS looks great in the pictures and i dont care about the size or room in the backseat, but 200hp isnt the best. What do you guys think i should go with as i am looking to spend in the high 30s. Thanks alot

Are 4WD really anymore secure than RWD with VSC + traction control?

Most Mercedes I've seen don't have 4-Matics and I haven't seen them in the ditches.

i'm wondering if 4WD is just a marketing ploy. granted, I'm sure 4WD will be better at gett OUT of certain ditches, but I don't see how it is any more safe once the car is in motion...
  • sixfivesixfive Member Posts: 45
With a G as a daily driver, I'd have to disagree that it's a pain. In fact with the sports suspension, I find that going into even the G with non-sport, it's uncomfortable to bob up and down over every surface dusruption. Once you have firm, you never go back.

If you like it soft, I doubt there much to be dissapointed with getting any Lexus. I think most enthusiastic drivers in this segment may go for sport but the buyers could also be lux buyers as the lines blur between the two. If I were in the IS market, I would also look a the Passat with a 3.6. Great looking 4 door.
  • g17g17 Member Posts: 45
and the IS250 AWD is better than the 325xi.

a silver 325xi auto with premium (lthr htd sts) is over 38K

The IS 250 all-wheel drive MSRP is $34,285 which includes a perforated leather-trimmed interior upgrade with heated and ventilated front seats and wood trim.

Apparently no competition from BMW here either, and no I'm not interested in going to Munich for the car. The local dealership will do fine.
  • nvnicknvnick Member Posts: 50
As the most selling lux brand in North America (possibly the world soon), Lexus plays its own game.

    Uh, actually Sept YTD sales data (1) BMW 225,956; (2) Lexus 218,729; (3) Acura 160,709; (4)MB 156,244; (5) Infiniti 103,220; (6) Volvo 97,760; (7) Audi 59,656. Also, Cadillac 182,800; Lincoln 93,700.

Sept sales, BMW wins again 25k to 22k. Source: Automotive News.
  • sixfivesixfive Member Posts: 45
So the more they sell the better? According to that funky logic, the caddy cts is a better car than the audi, lincoln, volvo, MB and Acura. Horsepuckey! The CTS sells because of branding prowess in a certain demographic.
  • r2917r2917 Member Posts: 67
Yes it is more secure. Having power/traction to all 4 wheels is much more "secure" or however you want to call it than an electronic system handling the power to just the rear wheels.

Having owned the previous IS300 with snow tires, driven in the LS430 with snow tires and now owning a 05 RL, I can tell you the RL is the best in the snow...even though it's OEM tires stink.

    AWD isnt a marketing ploy.
  • r2917r2917 Member Posts: 67
Uh, your logic here comparing brands is that you think the "prestige" factor of a brand is valuable and warrants paying more for a car. I think that is silly and makes no sense. So you think ebcause Lexus is a big player now they should overcharge for their cars like BMW and MB do? Why on earth would you agree with that?

I also find it funny because 10 years ago Lexus was the supposed "lower tiered" brand like you stereotype Acura and Infiniti to be and at that time what did us Lexus fans say? They were great cars and a bargian compared to the competition...now Lexus is slowly moving away from that...

If you truly believe what you say then I guess your Lexus sunglasses are clouding your opinion because the TL and RL show Acura can make cars basically on par with Lexus in terms of quality and overall package. I own the 05 RL and my folks have a loaded LS430...I can tell you the RL's quality is pretty darn close to the LS430 so apparently Acura being "lower tier" knows how to do things.

so I am aware that the base MSRPs have been realesed on the 11th, how about the MSRP for the optional packages. Also what is the standard features list, and options list.

Blueguydotcom, you seem to think you know everything, how about you let the rest of us know how much the options are going to cost?

Yes, you have said this many times already, how about some actual data to back it up. Around 40 K is not actual data, its your own estimate.

Stopped by the local dealer and they have a glacier white IS350 coming in Friday, and stickers at 36994, and she doesn't have a clue what options it has on it, but according to her they all will be coming in at this price unless you opt for nav/or ml. No one has this one reserved either. Guess I will have to see it in person on Friday, and hopefully drive it home..... :-)

If the base price of the Canadian IS 250 isn't lower than 37,000$ it'll be cheeper to buy the car I want in the States.

Blueguydotcom, you seem to think you know everything, how about you let the rest of us know how much the options are going to cost?

Just guestimating off what I've read at CL and other places. I'd be happy if the prices end up far lower than what many people are guessing.

So far the only shock in pricing came from the overpriced AWD model. The IS250 came in at what Lexus execs said it would back in March - about the same starting price as the IS300.

The IS350's starting price of 36k seems good too.

Why the heck hasn't lexus released the prices on the option packages?!

BTW, this isn't the only car that seems to be coming in with prices I find appalling for what you get. The A3 3.2 Quattro's a major rip off starting at 34k.
  • g17g17 Member Posts: 45
The IS250 AWD is priced better than the 325xi with much more as standard. 325 has no leather, no htd seats, and no automatic as standard equip. :confuse: If the 250 is overpriced what does that make the 325? LOL!!

    According to whom?

"...So called good handling car for daily driving = pain of [non-permissible content removed]..."

I was just in a meeting where it was suggested that construction on a new building could start in advance of site permitting without exposure, so that is the second most ridiculous thing I've heard today.

still trying to figure out how auto standard is a good thing. shrug

that's an easy one, especially from the manufacturer's perspective.

auto is what buyers -- as opposed to the "chattering classes" who spend too much time on edmunds (and I include myself in that group) -- actually want and, more importantly, actually BUY.
  • maxellmanmaxellman Member Posts: 43
You are right Jrynn. I would add he can't afford it either. or as some say "over priced".

It can't have much on the options list; with MSRP at $35,440, destination at $650, that's $36,090; I'm not aware of any options packages at $904! Maybe that includes some dealer add-ons? Let us know.
  • philliprumansphilliprumans Member Posts: 5
I thought cloth was going to be standard and leather was optional? Am I understading the pevious reply's over the last two days to indicate that leather is actually standard?

Yup, leather is standard. As is a sun/moonroof.

It appears that leather is standard on models intended for the US; may not be the case in Canada and other locations.

A little research led me to this
    Base Price $35440

Almost fully loaded Lexus for less then 40 K, that looks like a good deal to me.

However, wait until Blueguydotcom gets to read this, he will find some faults in this.

Nice work. Exactly what I was looking for. Where did you get this information? Is this official pricing or wishful thinking?

PS. I'll take mine in Tungsten Pearl with Sterling interior. Where do I send the check?
