Hey guys, one more question, is AWD drive beneficial to get for the DC metro area or I can settle for the FWD?

The general consensus is that resale will be better with an AWD everywhere but in Florida. :)

Whether you are more comfortable with AWD in your winter driving conditions is another story. My sister loves having AWD on her Subaru but she's out in western Virginia and uses it to get out of her driveway a few times a winter.

    @stever‌

Thanks. AWD drive it is. Time to start negotiating. You and @brian125‌ have been a great help. I trust I will get a great deal. 2 dealers have quoted me $28500 OTD. still waiting on breakdown. Everyone else is between $33K and $34K. So I am assuming the $28500 are deceptive offers. One dealer is just under $30K. He may be the real deal. I will have to wait and see

Bought a EXL RES FWD with splash gaurd and wheel locks, about ten days ago, for $26238 (including destination fee). Extras were sales tax, doc fee ($166), title($25), registration ($250 - $300) . Honda finance (0.9% for 60 months) and $750 dealer cash included. We were keen on color and drive so availability was limited.
  • surfinpenguinsurfinpenguin Member Posts: 18
    @chicagobuyer07‌

Is the $750 dealer cash already included in the $26238. What is sales tax in your area ?
  • chicagobuyer07chicagobuyer07 Member Posts: 2
    @surfinpenguin‌
Yes the $26238 includes the $750 dealer cash and we availed the Honda credit. This price does not include sales tax, doc fee, title or registration.

I'm in Boston area. A couple of days ago, I got an email quote of $23,856 (including destination) for 2014 CR-V EX AWD. Is it a good deal at this time of the year? The 2015 model is going to be released in a month. Should I buy 2014 now or wait for 2015? I heard that 2015 has some minor improvements such as 7 inch screen.

    cherryhill1,

your quote is in the 1500 to 2k below buying range.

The real question is... Do I want a 2014 model for 1500 to 2k below invoice?.... OR

Do I want next years model 2015 for Invoice price maybe a few dollars below invoice price.

    Hi everyone,

I live in MD, and I am going in to the dealership today to try and purchase a new 2014 CRV EX AWD with no options. This is the internet quote I received:

    2014 Honda CRV EX AWD
    Sale Price $22,500
    Processing Fee $300
    Destination Fee $830
    6% Maryland Sales Tax $1,417
    Tags, Title & Registration $295
Final Out the Door Price $25,342

Is this a bad, decent, good or excellent deal?

I have been trying to figure out the dealer's cost for this car, but cannot seem to figure out the factory holdback and factory to dealer incentives.

Any thoughts is much appreciated it, because I am going in this morning. Thanks!

jumop, Your deal is good / excellent

Dealers Invoice on your model is $24,853. This puts you at 2353 below dealers invoice minus there 300 doc fee.

Post dealer and your buying experience when your done.

    Good luck

@jumop, no one really knows the dealer cost of a car. The dealer won't even know until the books are run and the bonuses plugged in. So for us consumers, going by invoice is about the best we can do. (Holdback can be handy to know, but some dealers are so "rich" they don't finance or floorplan their inventory, so that's not an ironclad number).

Excellent point @brian125 - those doc fees have become a big profit center for lots of dealers. It's especially irritating since they probably do everything over the computer and don't even need to send a runner to the DMV any more. It'd be nice if more states would cap the fees.

How about Florida doc fee's.......... 699 plus. Florida is Gods grave yard for the old.

Just imagine how many elderly get trapped in the dealers web on uneducatedness of over paying. Then getting hit with the doc fee charge at the end in the back offices. OUCH!!!!!

BTW: I just made that word up uneducatedness. Seems like my 8th grade writing skills are trendy now. Who would of thought. lol...

I essentially got my deal. Bought the 2014 Honda CRV AWD EX in polished metal metallic for 22500 along with protection package that came with the car, which I negotiated down to 695 from 1000. Even though I didn't want the package (e.g., wheel lock, mud guards), the 500 college grad. rebate for financing covered most of it.

Of course I read that. They system has a way of alerting us when someone else mentions our name.

Actually I retired because I could well afford to. Sometimes I do miss the business but when I read posts from know it alls and people who think profit is a dirty word it makes me smile and realize I made the right decision.

I know you are a self proclaimed "expert" on buying cars and hold yourself in high regard.

Dealers will find ways to make a profit and stay in business. They can't sell cars for what they paid for them and stay in business. I know this bothers you but that's the way it has to be.

Hey. I am in the NOVA area and have been emailing many dealers in the area including Ourisman. Did you compare to other dealers in the area?
  • surfinpenguinsurfinpenguin Member Posts: 18
    @brian125‌

I have been quoted this price on a Honda CRV EX-L AWD with Navi. I called and emailed to confirm the price. See below:
I am in DC metro. Dealer is also in DC metro.

price of 2014 Honda CRV EXL. $25991.00
Appearence Package which includes Wheel locks,Mudguards, Phantom Footprints, and Nitro
    cost of this is $597.00
then there is processing fees $499
    Va taxes are $1121.27
    Va tags are $ 70.00
    so the total is $28278.27

This is a great deal, right?

Yes............If the dest / charge of 830 was included in that 25,991 price puts you at 3577 below dealers invoice minus the 499 doc fee, puts you At 3078 below dealers invoice then minus another 500 for the rip off package dealer is ramming down your throat. Wheel locks and splash guards are 95 dollars if bought on line . The way I look at your deal is:

Over 2550 below dealers invoice give and take a few dollars.......... make the deal

If you find out dealer did not add the 830 dest / charge to the 25,991 price then negotiate that added package down to 150 dollars or tell dealer you will buy elsewhere.

I have been dealing with the local dealers in the Phoenix Area and this is my best deal so far on a Honda CRV EX FWD.
I started with “Price Promise” from here and have been emailing back and forth.

MSRP Price of 2014 Honda CRV EX $26050

    Sale Price: $23,412.00 (including destination)

    Dealer installed extras:
Wheel locks, Tint, Mudguards, Cargo Tray and Security System
    Documentation fee: $399.00
    Taxes: $1,960.00
    State fees and VTR: $233.50
    Plates: $440.00
Total: $26,444.00 out the door price

The question now is to go for the 2014 or wait and see what the 2015 has to offer. Lots of the color combo that I want in the area and I would think the closer we get to the 2015’s the better deal I might get?

What do you think of this offer?
What do you think about the 2014 vs 2015 question?

Great forum- thanks to all for the good information and help

    your models invoice w / dest charge = 24,513

So for 1100 below invoice plus added accessories this deal is ok . There is room for another 500 dollars for sure. Waiting for a 2015 will give you exact choice of color and options. Pricing on a 2015 in AZ might be at invoice price to a couple dollars below invoice.

Pricing in your area is not like you see in other states. You could expand your dealer search on a 2014, or wait for a 2015 that's unchanged with some minor upgrades. The first month or 2 when 2015 models are arriving on lots don't expect pricing to be in your favor. Once dealers stock rises on lots pricing will be better.

Thanks again brian125 for your help. The affirmation helped me forward with the deal.

Hi Surfinpenguin - I emailed all the local Honda dealerships in the MD and VA area. I found Ourisman Bethesda (Hung K) and Fairfax Honda (Matt B ) to have the lowest prices.

What were your thoughts of Honda of Tysons Corner? so far, their deal is the best I have gotten. They have given me a price $1300 lesser than Ourisman but they sound shady.

I have been reading constantly about the Honda CRV 2015 coming out end of this month with a lot of changes.
    a. This is my first new car and if 2015 CRV has CVT and all bells and whistles.. how long before we can get them at a non discounted price?
    b. If CRV 2015 is a major change then how much of discount will we see on a 2014 CRV and when to expect that?

Any thoughts... (I am having tough time deciding between accord and CRV)
  • brian125brian125 Member Posts: 5,244
My bad I posted incorrectly on the 2015 CRV . Here is the update for those of you considering a 2014 model opposed to the 2015 model.

What It Is: The mid-cycle refresh of Honda’s popular CR-V crossover, which involves no sheet metal changes but does swap in classier new front and rear fascias. Up front, a new two-slat grille with a mesh insert is underscored by chrome, replacing the broad, three-bar grille of the current model. Somewhat squintier-looking HID headlamps (likely a higher-trim option) are found in the place of the large halogens that light the way for all 2014 CR-Vs. A more sculpted front bumper features new horizontal fog lamps with chrome trim in place of the round bulbs on the current CR-V.

In back, the tailgate features a new, three-dimensional garnish beneath the rear window that brackets the Honda badge and spreads out to what appear to be mildly redesigned taillamps. The rear bumper is reshaped, and features considerably more body color compared to the current model, which is heavy on the dark-gray protective cladding. The futuristic wheels are also new and appear to be slightly larger than the current 16- and 17-inch offerings.

Our shooter noted that the vehicle also had covers over the dashboard, indicating that the CR-V is also getting some interior updates—likely Honda’s new app-based Honda Link infotainment and navigation systems as seen in the 2014 Civic and 2015 Fit, as well as possibly Apple’s new CarPlay iOS integration system.

Refreshed 2015 Honda CR-V Bound for Dealerships October 1

"Compact SUVs are the hottest-selling vehicle in the automotive market, according to Edmunds.com. The popular vehicles have the highest conquest rate of all major segments: 79 percent of vehicles traded in for compact SUVs are from other segment."

I bought a Honda CR-V FWD EX in Charlotte, NC:

    22,963.00 Base Price
    1693.00 Accessories
    349.68 Tax
    168.95 Tags
    549 Dealer Fee

Accessories = Cargo Tray, All Weather Floor Mats, Running Boards, Edge Guards, Rear Seat Cover, Mud Guards, Wheel locks (stupid accessory but I let them have it).

    Out the door: $ 25,729.95

Cash + Trade. They gave me $1000 higher for my trade than any other offer (even Carmax).

    How did I do?

Brian125 and others - OK. It is approaching the end of the month. I have called the dealerships, gotten their incentives and readied the email letter formatted after the one Brian125 posted.

    Good Day,
I am looking to buy a CRV today if we could agree on a price. More specifically, I am looking for an EX-L AWD CRV - Polished Metal Metallic in color, splash guards, wheel locks, and body molding. I am not interested in the navigation system or the DVD entertainment system. I already have offers from other dealerships a lot farther then I would like to travel.
I am contacting the dealerships in my hometown area via email to see if we could close this deal today. I am willing to travel to purchase this vehicle if my price cannot be matched or beat in my hometown. I would like to give my business to a local dealership.
I am ready to make the purchase for this vehicle from your dealership today. I am able to secure the deal with a credit card deposit until I am able to get to your dealership. I have taken your document fees into consideration along with adjusting my price to avoid traveling further than I would like to go to purchase this CR V.
$1600.00 below the dealers invoice price for the car is the amount that would get this deal done today. Total price would be $26,564.00. (This includes the destination charge - $830.00) I would also request that the accessories are added in at the Dealer’s cost.
Thank you for your time and consideration on my offer.

I added my email and cell # information.

One last question - currently there is $750.00 cash back for financing through Honda. (No big deal, I will pay it off ASAP no matter the APR) .would the $750.00 cash back be part of the $1600.00 below invoice that I am looking for? If it is should I go for a larger number below invoice?

    Thank you.

What state are you shopping for the CRV?

If you finance the vehicle thru dealer he will apply that 750 incentive to get you to the 1600 buying number. Your asking price should get a immediate sale from a lot of dealers if they have your model in stock.

Depending on your area and dealers supply would dictate if you could get a 2k below or better.. Can you?........ I dont know? Would I try for 2k below........ Yes........ Worse case dealers lower there offer to 1600 or 1700 below dealers invoice.................... Go for it.

A target price of 1500 to 2k below invoice is where you want to be this time of the year. Some states can do better.

By the way that is a excellent email you are sending out. Your price is not over the top.

1st 750 dealer will apply to your deal.

Great. Now I guess all I have to do is figure out the strategy. Do I ask for the $1600.00 below invoice in the email and then hope for a couple of offers and work it up to $2000.00 (or as close as I can like stayghost ) or ask for $2000.00 and work down if need be.

I think they are all nice features. you will never recoupe this money if you sell or trade this vehicle down the road. That being said dealer is ripping you off on the last 3 accessories.

This dealer needs to knock off another 500 dollars off added accessories.

Auto dimming mirror is ............163 dollars online........... not dealers invoice price
All season mats are.................. 89 dollars online............. not dealers invoice price
Back up sensor online .............186 dollars ................... not dealers invoice price.
Body side molding ..................156 dollars online.............. not invoice price
    Cross bars.................................... 161 dollars online
Remote engine start Kit ................. 170 dollars online.
Running boards invoice....................299........... Online price 390 dollars

thanks guys. @brian125 you are a great help.
I am going to see the dealer tomorrow. I told them $31K over email and they said only way to get best lowest deal is to come in person. I mentioned my target price of $30K. you think they will do it for $30K or how close you think they will come based on your pricing structures and knowledge etc?

What is this $750 cash back? Are you referring to the $750 Dealer Cash? if it is the latter, it seems to me that no financing through Honda is required since it says:

    "Requirements and Restrictions:
    * Dealer Cash is available towards leasing or retail purchases. Can be combined with Honda Financial Services APR Financing, special Lease offers or Military Appreciation offer.
    Dealer Cash Start End
    $750 09/03/2014 11/03/2014
    "

    am I wrong?

That's preferable since they should fall under Honda's warranty that way and any dealer could fix a problem under warranty. I don't know - Honda may not have "official" running boards, etc. as accessories.

I posted the same qn on crv 2015 launch also..

Assuming if there is CVT and engine change.. Can anyone confirm if the prices would drop a lot on the CRV 2014?

If it is I am going to hold on to my purchase decision till last day and i am willing to wait till middle of October also but can anyone throw some light as i have never monitored a price drop on a major upgrade. Is the wait worth it ? My friend told me that in 2011 sonata dropped 5k coz the new model had a major change. (If the price drop is not going to be significant then i will just go with a accord)

Hello, first time buyer and looking to get advice from others! I am in Lafayette, Indiana and I am looking for a 2014 Honda CRV EX.

There is only one Honda dealer near my place, and the price he offered is $24933 without tax and dealer fee. He hasn’t told me the OTD, which is around $26996 after I calculated by myself. Then I called another dealer which is 50 miles away from me and I got the OTD through phone is $26445, which is a little lower than the dealer near me. The problem is I have never told them what my target price is. The MSRP of this car is around $25683. All I want is at least $1000 lower than the current price, and more than $2000 would be better.

Should I first write to the dealers and tell them the price that I want? Should I contact more dealers? Is there any suggestion that would help me make this deal? Thanks a lot.

1500 to 2k below dealers invoice after taking dealers doc fee charges into consideration. In some states getting more than 2k below invoice price is possible. Pricing will vary depending on dealerships and stock
