My numbers match yours ... if you're comfortable with the selling price, it's a pretty good deal.

Hey guys, I got a few questions. Just went to a dealer today to look 3 hatches - turns out I fell in love with GTI (with originally I thought was the bottom of the 3 on my list) ANYWAY.. I am not looking to make a purchase/lease until 3-4 months - my car I have now is approaching 200k but working fine.

But when the time comes I see myself making my next car a GTI so I have some questions.

Without being biased/I Know it's different for everyone - for the average person is leasing it or buying it better?

I was hoping to pay around $250/month for a car - but now that I'm reading these numbers, that seems laughable, sadly :( It seems even for the base GTI (S) at an MSRP of 25-26k it seems I wouldn't be able to even do $300/month?

Does it even make sense to lease? Or is it smarter to buy?

I wanted a sunroof - which means I would need to then even go up to the SE and thats like 28-29k! I don't even know if it's worth it anymore to go up more.

What would you say is the ratio of how much a car lease should be a month compared to a salary? For example, for a salary of 60k, with house rent being about 750/month I'm wondering if I can afford a GTI?

Anyone care to pitch in some numbers?

My current car is 2007 Ford Fusion with 196k miles and has some dings in it. Would that even get me a value for trade in?

So many questions, so little time

First, the decision to lease or buy depends on how long you plan on keeping your car. Given that your current car is approaching 8 years old with close to 200K on it, you seem more likely to buy than lease. Leasing is for folks who like to only keep their cars for a few years.

2015 GTI's are not leasing well at the moment, given the high MF (.00157, or 3.77%).

I'm not a personal finance specialist, so I'm not even going to touch the question of affordability or budgets. Only you can determine what you are comfortable spending for a car payment.

Your Fusion has some value to somebody, just probably not the VW dealer. If you were to pursue a new car, I think your best bet is to sell in privately. Check the "Real World Trade in Values" discussion for a better assessment.

Gentlemen, two questions: a) Do you know the values as of October for Money Factor and Residual Value in a 2015 GTI SE? (36m/10k). b) Is is fair for the dealer to charge Acquisition Fee ($625) & Inception Fees ($1540)??

    .00161 and 60%.

Acquisition fee is unavoidable. What is the breakdown of the other $1540 of inception fees?

1540 are comprised of first/last payments, plate (don't have one so ~400) & deposit. MSRP is 30910 and Negotiated price (including inception + acq fee) = 30530. Sounds about right... just want to be sure that I don't get into a bad deal! (SE w/Light package)

Last payment? I've not heard of pre-paying the last payment on a lease. Everything else makes sense, however.

Decent discount before fees, especially for a 2015 model.

So the money factor is even worse in October than last month? After the horrendous numbers VW of America reported for September 2014, you think they'd be a little more aggressive with these leases.

Nobody said that the finance guys have to make sense. I suspect they are making the 2014's more attractive so they'll get moved fast. After that, it's possible the MF's for the 2015's will come down.

I'm looking at a 2015 GTI SE with the lighting package. $31300 after taxes and fees. They're offering a $488/month lease for 36/15k... Is this outrageous or is it just me? I haven't asked for MF or residual yet.

Current 2015 GTI numbers are .00161 and 57% for 36/15.

We'd need to know the MSRP in order to model a payment.

That might be a better approach. I suspect VW is trying to make the 2014's more attractive to lease for now. Once they are gone, it's possible the numbers for the 2015 will get better.

All speculation on my part, however.

Hello, could you post the November MF for the 2015 GTI?

    I'm guessing it's around 0.0023 based on the current terrible national offer. (2015 GTI S manual - $324/mo. 36/12. $2,349 down. MSRP $25,815.)

I've been leasing GTIs for the last 9 years, it seems like they usually start dropping the MF in january. Does your experience bear a similar assessment? A new body style is always a wildcard of course.

I'm also very curious if anyone here has the MF/RV numbers for the e-Golf. I saw a $299/mo lease mentioned on another forum. If there's any truth to that it would be compelling to me.

    Thanks!

We're showing a standard MF (don't have the exact number, but something around .00200 sounds about right) and 58% for 36/12.

I've never leased a GTI, so I can't comment on what the numbers two months from now will look like. I suppose it all depends on supply and demand - if there's little demand, then the finance boffins at VW may sweeten the numbers.

I don't have any lease numbers on the e-Golf. Are they in showrooms already?

The residual matches my numbers, and .00156 is certainly better than .00200 on the MF...

I bought a GTI this past weekend and I thought about leasing (my last car was a lease) but after a quick glance at the numbers I knew it was not worth it. So I ended up buying. I was able to haggle the price down to $27,000 (including destination - not including the dealer fee and taxes) for a GTI SE with the lighting package. So while the lease options are not great now there seems to be some wiggle room for negotiation on the price.

How is the $2653 being applied? I suspect some of it is cap cost reduction?

With your MSRP and selling price, I get a pre-tax payment of $399.51, so if your quote of $401 includes tax, I think it's pretty good.

Correction from dealer. It's $2,588.28 28 because we're transferring the same plates not getting new plates. This consists of $150 for registration and transfer of plates, $625 for the bank fee, $75 document fee, $12.50 tire recycling fee, $10 inspection fee, $1,314.51 for taxes on the total number of payments, and 401.27 for the 1st month payment.

OK, so you live in a state where the lease taxes are calculated up front. My observation above still stands ... I'm calculating $399.51/mo which is awful close to the $401.27/mo that you are being quoted.

Hello new to this forum, but love our 4th GTI! We have ordered the 2015 w/performance package/lighting/etc. we don't have a final price yet, but would like to know our options for this lease. Told that the car should arrive end of Dec/early January 2015, we would lease for 15K miles and 36 months. Our current 2012 GTI has been extended passed the termination date, and has a residual value of $15,960.00. If we pay the upfront fees, and leave a small deposit, wondering if we can keep our payments below $400/mo? Also need the MF & Interest rate, credit score between 650-750...reside in northern VA. Thanks for any advice provided. ArlyG

    .00162 and 56% residual for 36/15.

Without knowing the MSRP or the selling price, we can't model a payment for you.

I don't have the credit score breakdown for VW, but tier B adds .00030 to the MF.

Thanks for the response...is it possible that I could get the MSRP from our consultant now? What score is Tier B? If I can get the MSPR, could you work out an estimate for me?

I'd also need to know the expected selling price in order to model a payment. Use the "Make / Model / Year" pull downs at the top of the page to help establish a target price.

Great tip...here'e the closest number from the pull downs: MSRP at $30,360.00. Does that help?
