Basically, @stickguy is correct, but backwards, depending on how you look at it.

The first really cool morning in the fall, I will have a "low air pressure" warning on the dash of one or both of my vehicles. Colder weather, the air in the tires is more "condensed" -- is that the word I want? The air molecules contain less energy, they are closer together, the air pressure in the tire goes down. So when the first cold front arrives, you will need to air up all of the tires on all of your vehicles.

No, houdini, not really.  If you lease a car or have a loan on a car, the lessor or mortgagor requires that they be listed on the policy as an “additional insured”.  That means they may be entitled to proceeds from an insurance payout.  As an example, if I had an accident that totaled my car, the check from my insurance company would list my lessor or bank and me as “payee” which requires us both to endorse the check(s).  My bank or the lessor would not endorse the check unless they receive payment for the balance of the lease or their financial interest in the car.

Being listed as an “additional interest” on my Conco Policy only means that the insurance company is required to deliver a copy of my insurance policy with declarations page to my Condo Association to show proof of insurance as well as minimum limits of liability.  The Association has no claim on my insurance, just the right to receive copies of policies an/or be notified if I cancel or change my policy.

I joined Michael Karesh's True Delta reliability reporting site a long time ago and was sad to see recently that he is no longer going to do any new reporting - I guess it either was too much work for too little reward, or maybe the numbers weren't adding up somehow, I dunno.

Anyway, I got an email from them today and in it he notes that he has reliability stats for the Tesla Model 3, so I took a look at those along with the Model S. Hoo-boy.

OK...at least I admit it, but, in my own defence, I had to really look to see that antenna Houdini. You must be reading those on a 40 inch screen.....mine is 22 and I had to look real close.

Kind of like winter and summer grade gasoline. They said winter grade is less expensive to make....so the price of gas has dropped. I thought winter grade would be more expensive with anti-freezing additives.

I thought we were to check tire pressures at least monthly and readjust to compensate for the changes in ambient temperatures. The tires drop about 1 pound per square inch for each 10 degrees Fahrenheit drop.

In the spring in temperate climates the air pressure when tires are cold before driving may actually increase. But because tires, wheels, and rims lose a small amount of air slowly, that pressure increase due to ambient temperature changes is offset by loss of air that occurs normally.

If I may vent once more about the, well, vents..., I could see making a charge that allowing air to vent into the rear area of the vehicle might reduce the drag on the vehicle due to less reduced air pressure on the rear of the vehicle. Sort of like the "trailer tails" do on semi trailers.

I love having the individual tire pressure readout in the cars TC. and comparing to my digital gauge, it is very accurate. So I just scroll through the menus once a week or so and see what it is. easy peezey.

In my car, the TPM not only shows psi for each tire, but also temperature of each tire.  I wonder why the manufacturer decided to include Fahrenheit temps in the TPM system?  Any thoughts?

My tire gauge broke years ago and I haven’t replaced it.  The car is accurate. 

I also like the newer air pumps that allow you to select a pressure and then beep when you reach it.

Nissan TPM system beeps when you hit the right amount. that is a neat idea.

I use my gauge only when I am filling the tires up, since I have a small air compressor but the dial on it is useless, so I need to check by hand to get it fine tuned.

It cools the brakes faster when there is a blowout.

I don’t think the IRS would look kindly on that.  Besides, I don’t have more than $12,000 in itemized deductions so I have to take the standard deduction.  Svinehunts!

Since no one will dare to comment...yes, the vent at the rear allows air to escape and thus, reduce drag...also the air flow dissipates heat from the brakes. I only commented in order to confirm imids theory.

I have a thought. They give you the tire pressure and the temperature reading so you have a better idea of what the pressure should be. The higher the temperature, the higher the air pressure reading....so it will give you a more accurate picture of why you are getting the reading you got.

Now, if you had rear air vents, the tire temperature would be lower, but, that is something we won't get into at this time.

I have a good system.....I could check my tire pressure on my infor screen, but, if I take the car in for a free wash any day any time my MB dealer is open they will check and fill my tires for me.

Agree with your Magnum PI assessment.  This “New Amsterdam” show on NBC is very good - totally different than most hospital shows I have seen.

Even worse is the video of cars driving in water in the middle of the article are from Cincinnati -- Ohio, not Kentucky, as implied by the article's point.

"Our southern friends in Mississippi (1.54 crashes per 100,000) and Arkansas (1.65 crashes per 100,000) ranked above Kentucky for most dangerous states to drive in when it's raining."

Unfortunately, journalism students aren't usually good at math. It happens a lot with medical articles....my wife is an expert about medical news.........since they know little about medicine they usually find a story that sounds worthwhile, and then they get it all wrong.

Ad revenue in newspapers is drying up, so they are barely surviving. I saw where the percentage of local news has really fallen off today....as newspapers use more stories from the news wire and other cheaper sources.

I can only get 2008 to 2012 for the Malibu.....it is at 134%. It seems that the Honda's repair record did surge...probably a new model and something that will get fixed. Malibu's 134% for 2008 to 2012 is much higher than Accords which is close to almost no repairs. Honda is a shock and a glitch, Malibu is fairly high...probably constant since I don't see a chart newer than 2012.
