Well the jinx continues. The rented Maytag double door over freezer refrigerator was delivered at 2 pm today. Rental place couldn't deliver last night. We had docctor appointment mid morning. Refrigerator part wouldn't cool in the fridge. I waited an hour. Freezer extra cold. Door open light stayed on eventually.

Went to rental place. Manager checked other stores. Delivery guys came back while I was still there. They went part way across town to a store that had same model that was running and cooling on the showroom floor. Delivered it at 5:30 pm. Had to wait about 15 minutes before it started cooling. I asked them to wait to be sure it worked right.

Finally have refrigerator in garage. Brought stuff back from friend's house. My back hurts.

Called Costco today about the LG dishwasher fiasco. They were pretty dismayed at LG’s incompetence/bad will/false promises and fotally agreed with me that almost three months is not reasonable waiting time for a part under warranty, so they filed with LG for replacement immediately. The diference is, this is a $100B corporation filing on my behalf, not me, so LG should not ignore this, as they did with me. They said we need to give them couple of business days to respond. I’m definitely more optimistic having support from them. Of course, LG is dead to me regardless. It’s sad, as their stuff is nice looking and has lots of clever stuff. But no, I had enough.

Login issues with the forums again today. Two devices - the office PC and the iPad - both required logging in again after working fine the last few weeks. The office PC got logged back in only by going to the "automotive forums" link on the bottom of Edmunds main page, which allowed the pop-up box to appear with the "Already a Member? Sign In!" line at the bottom. The iPad is having terrible problems though. When I tried the above with it, it could not even render the stuff in the popup, just gave me a gray box forever. I shut down every other app that was running on the iPad, tried it again, and I was able to get the correct box to appear. I used the Member link at the bottom, entered my credentials, and now it has been sitting with a blank box and a spinning wheel for at least 15 minutes. The battery may well run down before it does anything at this rate.

If that wasn't ridiculous enough, when it first wants you to log in when you use your bookmarked link, you still get the Vanilla "Howdy Stranger!" thing coming up, and when you click that "Log In" button, you get something that does not work at all and rejects your login. C'mon, folks, this is crazy. WHY DOES THAT PAGE STILL EVEN EXIST????

Is there a mercy rule in baseball? If so, it should have been applied last night in the Red Sox 16 - 1 shelacking of the Yankees.

When a game is lost the manager should be able to throw in the towel and concede the game to the opposing team. Rather than embarrass the players and wasting the arm of pitchers such lopsided games should be called

I'm not a fan of doing that. I know they do it in Little League but these are men playing this game for real money. The winning side uses it as another successful practice. It's nice to be on that side of the practice vs. the guys on the other side. I've been on both ends in my day and being on the wrong side teaches you that you have to find a way to get better because when you're grown up nobody is going to give you anything when playing sports and I wasn't even paid for those lessons. jmonroe
I agree with what you said and want to add that in baseball in theory as long as the game is being played any deficit in score can be overcome.

The chicago Cubs scored 18 runs in one inning in the 1880s, Boston scored 17 runs in one inning in the 1950s, IIRC the Chicago white Sox scored 14 runs in the 9th inning a few years ago. So a 15 run deficit can be overcome, not likely but possible.

Just like with cars, they all have their problems but it is how well they go about handling those problems that really sets one above another. With cars the dealer has a lot to do with that. In your case it's the dealer (Costco) that seems to be doing their part.

Good luck and let us know how this plays out. FWIW, I think it will; now that you got Costco involved.

This one could win the award for worst product experience this year. Do these companies have any pride in what they sell? Apparently not.......they win the award for incompetence and stonewalling.

All makes of cars can have a problem.
It would probably be reported if it were a GM....but, it got reported even though it wasn't a GM.
Honda is stepping up to fix this issue, but, few do it on their own before they are made to do it.
Once again, we have to wait and see how this ends up.....how they treat the problem is the critical factor.
Incidentally, Honda has a very good reputation....this is unusual, so lets not get too excited yet.

This has been known for almost 2 year. In China they addressed the problem as a safety recall, which means every owner gets notified. In the US they think they'll do a "product update," i.e., a secret recall, and only if the dealer lets you know when you complain. LOL

An engine running on oil diluted with gasoline is wearing the rings against the cylinder walls like metal on metal without any oil The bearings are similarly wearing rapidly. If I had an engine that was running on oil diluted with gasoline, I'd want a new engine.

Honda and toyota should get held to the same standard as everyone else.

Very few car companies "volunteer" to do a recall. It would be nice if they did, but, the way they see it is if the government thinks it is an issue they will issue a citation. They all or almost all (not sure about Suburu for example) try to get away with what they can. And it isn't exactly the same as changing records and hiding information while people are dying............and I didn't start this one!

every company, for something this big, is going to try and minimize the damage. step 1, pretend it doesn't exist, or is a super rare isolated issue. Until they just can't ignore it any longer. Plus I don't think the feds get involved unless it is emissions related, or safety.

I wondered that too, but have not seen reports, and they sold a ton of civics with that engine the last few years. Maybe there is something different enough about the CRV packaging?

I click on Research, then Car Forums to get to:

Then click on Sign In or Register. That brings up:

(That's the one that reminds me of a car dealer or manufacturer putting more emphasis on getting a new customer rather than keeping an existing customer.)

Click on Sign In in the little text at the bottom which reveals:

As I said, I only have to do that if I clean up, which I do fairly often. Otherwise just Research then Car Forums does it.

Funny, I had similar thought. Most login pages are put in opposite order, assumin you already have a login and providing link if you don’t. The approach here has another downside that puts existing members into those vicious loops, creating frustration. I think Edmunds should rethink this sign in page, basically swich the order.

That sign in page showed up suddenly yesterday. I did it wrong the first 2 times as well, I didn't notice the tiny writing across the bottom that said if you are a member sign in here.
Maybe they are trying to eliminate people with low I.Q.s or few computer skills.

Well, last night after watching the Red Sox hang on despite Kimbrel drinking too much coffee or whatever, the iPad was still spinning its wheels, so I plugged it in to the charger and went to bed. When I got up this morning the wheel was still spinning so I shut down the window. Tried it again and this time I was back to the grey popup sign-up/in window that would not even render any text.

What a mess. I guess the software testing here must have been outsourced to Alfa Romeo. :'(

Yes, those are what I have been seeing on the iPad. The first one has failed several times to render anything except the box itself, no text and just a grey fill, but a couple of times it has looked like that. So I click the line at the bottom, get the second box, enter credentials, and get a white box with a spinning wheel for 12 hours.

I had to sign in on my phone earlier this week. It had lost the autologin for forums.edmunds.com.

And it didn't seem to work the way it does on my PC. I eventually got the steps right.

If it were only me, I'd say my phone had done a cleanup in the Android system. But several folks have had problems, so something changes somewhere else.

Yes, I think toyota should have been held to the same standard about their sludge problems that they passed off for years and then the debacle of the runaway acceleration that they said was due to "floor mats' getting in the way of the accelerators or was just us old people who don't know how to drive!!!

And there's the airbag issues. I recall reading that Honda had been going to junkyards and retrieving airbags to study after early reports. I don't recall Honda giving warnings to the public. If I'd read the warning that there might be problems with my airbag in a Honda, I would have pulled the fuse until the dealer and the company had a fix. That was also a safety issue. But like the backdoor in the testing program for emissions from a "German" company's cars that bypassed the pollluting mode when the car was connected to a test computer, that also was initially flimflimmed and held back until the right people wrote about it.

I was stunned at the tone in Consumer Report's article. It actually was critical of the lack of parallel in handling of the engine-damaging problem in China vs. in the US.

I was surprised they did that. They usually have drunk the Kool Aid on Hondas.

One thing to consider, playoff game or not, the odds of overcoming a 15 run deficit are rather long. It can be done but it is a rare feat. Those odds should be considered along with wearing out your bullpen and auxiliary plays you may have to use in order to manufacture those 16 runs you need to win while keeping the other team from scoring again. It may be prudent to keep them in reserve for the next game, if there is one.

When my buddy visiting from up country was here we toured around a few car lots to see the new models. We included a Toyota dealer. Every single new model on that lot had a gaping maw up front that was absolutely hideous-looking. They had an Avalon there that looked like a giant vacuum cleaner up front. Others looked like bottom-feeding fish. The new Corolla is shockingly ugly compared to last year. The only vehicle there that escaped so far was the 86. I don't know what they are thinking.

Like it, especially the red/saddle colors.  The front seat looks much too short (bolster) for my thighs and knees - I would be cramped.  Width of seats a bit too narrow.  I would have to drive it to be certain - but thanks for the look see.  Nice automobile.

Mike, it’s an Avalon. They usually have big comfy seats. So maybe it’s just the pictures making them look small. But, always need to try before you buy!

i wonder if there was an update recently? I think yesterday I had to log back in, for the first time in ages. On the iPad first, and I think the laptop too. Just did the usual "find a link" routine, put in the email and PW, and back in business.
May not be because of an update, it could be that the system kicks people off after a certain amount of time for security purposes. It may require a sign in after a certain amount of inactivity and/or every so many days regardless of activity.

For today there is much joy in Mudville; the mighty Yankees have bowed out! Sorry, NYCGuy et al. Lifetime Yankee non-fan, lifetime Mets fan and as of '91, Sawx!
At least you guys didn't go out like the Cubs did. Failing to keep the lead in the division the losing the tie breaker and then losing the wild card. The Cubs had a brutal end of the season going 30 days without a day off including one day where they flew out to DC for one game then back to Chicago. That cannot be good for a team.

Or the Rockies, who wrapped up the regular season with a 12-0 pasting of the Nationals, then somehow lost their bats in LA, Chicago and Milwaukee. I think they were pressing too hard, once they got to the NLDS.

I will say, that they seem to have addressed the pitching issues that plague a team playing at this altitude.

Something that was mentioned in one of their games last week - all the offensive stats seem to have a big fat asterisk next to them because of the altitude, but Kyle Freeland had quite the impressive year pitching, but didn't get any extra credit because half his starts were at Coors Field.

Of course, de Grom will win the NL Cy Young for his sub 2 ERA, even though he only won 10 games.

The problem they had was they played the Cubs. Since division play started the Cubs have been eliminated in the post season 9 times. Of those 9 times the team that eliminated them lost the very next series 8 times. Only the Florida Marlins defeated the Cubs in Post season play and gone on to win.

Finally had to do a power-off reboot of the iPad and, lo and behold, I got logged in. Hope this isn't the new SOP.

I think Toyota's new front-end design idiom is an attempt to appeal to the visually-impaired market, one long ignored by car manufacturers.

Mike, I hope you don't consider this an insult but the 2018/2019 Chevy Impala Premier is worth a look see. It is top rated by Consumer Reports and it has probably has every feature currently available on your S540.

Toyota styling is the desire for dynamism and excitement. Toyota was panned 10-15 years ago for dull beige cars, and now they are overcompensating. Same for Lexus. Funny thing, the average person will fall for it, and think the car is exciting.

In my area, Toyota also uses hyperbole in its TV ads that could come from the current WH. From the "aggressively sophisticated" Highlander to the "stylish" Corolla to the "bold" Camry, they have it all.

@abacomike ....thought of you regarding this. Since I was looking at these during my Cadillac fiasco, the sales person I talked to sends me these blurbs from time-to-time. This is a very, very nice car for under $40K. The ones I test drove were from before the redesign. This is all new. Should be even better.

Like it, especially the red/saddle colors.  The front seat looks much too short (bolster) for my thighs and knees - I would be cramped.  Width of seats a bit too narrow.  I would have to drive it to be certain - but thanks for the look see.  Nice automobile.

I like the grill.....the one in the link is better than the "Touring" model. I've never been one to back away from "big grills". Seats look small in the picture. But, on the review videos I've seen, they look significantly larger with some modest bolsters.

This particular Toyota dealer (this is the one I've used when in the market for Toyotas) offers the 5 years of maintenance at no charge, as Driver points out.

All loaded up with all the safety, lane keep, emergency braking, laser cruise, etc. I've always liked that V6, too. They use it in the Lexus lineup too.

The new Avalons are supposed to be sportier. Lots of leather....lots of (real) wood. Might go give it a spin just for grins.

That's a helluva lot of car for $40K.
