If you don't hit enter before adding the image, it treats the text as if it was a caption for below the image since it's in the same paragraph, like this
I wrote my username and password on my arm with a black sharpie in case I got blown away by the winds of change here, but I guess I didn't need to do that. Seems to work logically. How do I get the black sharpie writing off my skin? 😣
The sideways pictures in the earlier posts here that I understood some to say go to the correct upright position when clicked, don't do that for me on Win 10 laptop in Chrome.
I highlighted just your text line and hit quote. It didn't seem to matter as it also quoted your pic, which I did not want to include. What's up with that?
My original reason for posting was to indicate that I did what you said, but it still inserted my pic above my text. This seems rather flaky.
EDIT: Double line returns are back too! Maybe it only does that when there is a highlight/quote used?
PS: Never thought I'd say this but I miss our cheesy little car Emotorcons. They weren't much, but they were ours. Now we have thousands of the same social media ones that most people never even understand, much less use.
After talking with my daughter for over an hour yesterday, I got talked into assisting her in finding a place to live. She starts her new job on July 15th, so she needs to sell her house, find a place to live, and then drive down here to South Florida.
This morning, I am up in Delray Beach with her realtor looking at apartments. Not cheap, that’s for sure. 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment runs about $1700 a month. I suggested that she look in Coconut Creek just south of Boca Raton or even west Deerfield Beach. Apartments are $200+ less a month for nice units. But I am not getting anywhere with her.
So I am running around hoping to find something she likes. The realtor is doing the driving at least. I am already looking forward to my nap! 😆😗
Uh, I hate to mention this but I just discovered something interesting quite by accident.
The problem for Firefox users was that the pull-downs here in Vanilla were sometimes non-responsive.
I just went to click on the down arrow next to the head icon at the top of the screen in the Edmunds banner to see if there was a user setting or some such that could be tweaked. Guess what? It's non-responsive too.
Could the problem have been not the forums code, but some site-wide thing?
The typical standard for modern usage is 100 amps; less than 100 amps may not be adequate for your needs. Large homes, and homes with central air-conditioning or electric heat will need more power, typically 150 to 200 amps
Just for the record, none of the sideways orientation photos rotate into proper orientation when you click on them. They open in a larger size in a new window but are still 90 degrees off. Win 10/Firefox.
For some strange reason, when I quoted driver's post to ask a question, it would only let me post ABOVE the quote box. No way to get the cursor underneath it as usual.
@driver100 , what I wanted to ask you was, what did you do to get all of the bold effects in your post?
OK, maybe I can explain the TRICKY quote part of a post better. Also, you noticed that hitting Enter creates a double space (new paragraph). That's how it works, but back to partial quoting:
First, you copy and paste the part of the post you want to quote and paste it into the comment box:
Then instead of clicking the word Quote you see at the bottom of the post you're quoting from, you click on the quote symbol in the paragraph menu and Choose Quote
Hit Enter again to "close the quote"
Then change back to Paragraph "mode" (for lack of a better term) to type your response to the partial quote
It's not as complicated as that "microsecond by microsecond" description makes it look
Yes, getting text under a quote or over an image seems touchy. If you don't watch where you click in the comment box when you go to type, the cursor seems to like to go above quote boxes and below images
Also note that when you use the @ sign to get the attention of a particular user like I did with this one, it displays in bold instead of looking blue like a link. It still links to that user's profile though
OK, I wasn't doing what you posted with the paragraph menu and quote function. But I cannot get a reply box without hitting the "quote" function below the original post. When I do it quoted your entire post. Are you saying I need to go all the way down to the bottom of the page and act like I'm starting a new post?
Heh... my brain is on overload from questions, but in a good way. AND I'm getting a LOT of editor experience FAST
To make links in your text. Just highlight the text you want to turn into a link, and you'll see the hyperlink choice in the editing tools that appear. Paste in the URL and hit enter. POOF
@ab348 if you are going to partially quote a post, yes, you go to the comment box at the end of the page, paste the text you're quoting there, and do the rest...
If you simply hit the quote link at the bottom of an individual post:
...it quotes the entire post and pulls it into a box down in the comment box and you type whatever you're going to type.
The two different types of quotes display differently. The whole quote has the quote in a box like this:
While the partial quote method shows the text you quoted in gray like this:

I did that a few times. When you click Edit to edit your post, the comment box below is right there and looks like you maybe should type there. After I did that once, I realized... DOH! :)
Well, I'm unsure if the cure isn't actually worse than the disease. This is not at all intuitive, seems flaky in its own way, and I find it very cumbersome to use. I really do not like it. There, I've said it.
Can't we just put a banner on top of the old way saying "We recommend you use Chrome" and go back to that?

Yea, the editor is trying to display everything in landscape mode (wider than high)
If you click on those photos they open in a new tab in the proper orientation. Definitely something to address.

I ran into that at first as well. Type your text, hit Enter and then click the Image icon

Or, since a picture is worth a thousand words, it assumes you WANT the image front and center 📷️
